Anya Hindmarch Urges Public to Chill During London Fashion Week

A CLOUDY DAY IN LONDON TOWN: Anya Hindmarch loves putting on a wacky show. Past ones have featured spinning teacup rides or handbags singing show tunes while the latest is an immersive, Instagram-able presentation for the press and the public with big, fat bean bags shaped like clouds, a live choral concert and lots of meditative moments.
The installation, Chubby Cloud by Anya Hindmarch, is a three-day event that’s taking place at Banqueting House, the neo-classical gem designed by Inigo Jones. The great hall has a vast Peter Paul Rubens on the ceiling and once Saturday morning’s giddy guests had jumped, vaulted and flopped down on the big white bean bag that nearly took up the room, they could view that painting like never before.
On Saturday, a BBC presenter invited guests to relax on the cloud while he read “The Shipping Forecast,” a regular radio weather report for the seas around the U.K. (many British people find this both informative and soothing) as Hindmarch spoke briefly about the virtues of taking a break. The accessories designer has booked a lineup of ticketed talks, meditations, music and bedtime stories over the three-day period.

Hindmarch opened a cloud-themed cafe for a 3-day consumer event known as

Global Grassroots Campaign Urges Prada to Stop Using Fur

APPEALING TO PRADA: Trying to turn up the pressure on Prada to adopt a fur-free policy, animal protection activists are banding together to launch an international campaign.
The coordinated effort is timed for the start of New York Fashion Week, which signals the launch of the more unofficial fashion month as buyers, influencers and editors will be off to London, Milan and Paris. Spearheaded by the Fur Free Alliance, a group of 40 animal-protection organizations from 30-plus countries, the initiative calls on supporters to use social media, phone calls and e-mails to reach out to Prada asking the company to stop using fur in its collections. The group is also getting help with outreach from Care2. Their efforts will start in Japan, according to PJ Smith, senior manager of fashion policy for the Humane Society of the U.S.
He said Wednesday via e-mail, “The Fur Free Alliance has been reaching out to Prada’s executive staff and board members since May. We e-mailed executive staff and board members and spoke with a senior vice president in July to let them know about the impending Fur Free Alliance global campaign, and last week we spoke with another member of senior staff from the Milan office.”

Trump Urges Twitter Followers To Read A Completely Blank Book

On Monday, at 8:13 a.m., President Donald Trump published a surprising tweet. Surprising for two reasons, in fact: Firstly, it recommended a book of “Reasons to Vote for Democrats” to his followers, and secondly, it recommended a book.

Had the president been hacked? What could account for such an uncharacteristic tweet?

Not to worry ― it all makes complete sense. Reasons to Vote for Democrats: A Comprehensive Guide by Michael J. Knowles is neither pro-Democrat nor, in the traditional sense, a book. It’s a 266-page volume filled with empty pages. (Get it? There are no reasons to vote for Democrats!)

Knowles, who brought out Reasons to Vote for Democrats in February, is hardly the first to use this old gag ― even in this election cycle. For example, back in November, Why Trump Deserves Trust, Respect and Admiration by David King became available on Amazon.

“This book is full of blank pages,” the description says. “Despite years of research, we could not find anything to say on this subject.”

The author includes a helpful hint for what to do with all the clean, unused pages inside: “Please feel free to use this book for notes.” Good idea! Here’s hoping the trees that were pulped for these joke books were not chopped down in vain.

Reasons to Vote for Democrats, despite being completely free of content, has been a top seller on Amazon for weeks. Thousands of consumers have snapped up $ 6 paperback copies, and the author, 26-year-old Knowles, was invited on “Fox and Friends” in March to discuss his creation.

Setting aside the president’s deliberate trolling of the Democratic Party ― of which a significant percentage of his constituents identify as members ― Trump’s ringing endorsement of a book without any words beyond the table of contents struck some as almost too on-the-nose, given his notorious inability to name any books he has read all the way through.

Knowing what we know about Trump’s reading habits, it’s little wonder he might define “reading enjoyment” as “not having to read any words” ― now we just have confirmation.

Michael Moore Urges Democrats To ‘Declare A National Emergency’ Amid FBI Trump Probe

Filmmaker Michael Moore on Wednesday urged the Democratic Party to declare a national emergency after the FBI said it was investigating whether members of Donald Trump’s campaign team had worked with the Russian government to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

Of course, Moore made his point in a most engaging way on Instagram, using a red alert light to call on Democratic leaders to respond with full alarm to the “shock in our democracy.”

“The Democratic leadership in the House and Senate needs to bring a halt to all business being done in the name of this potential felony suspect, Donald J. Trump,” Moore wrote. “No bill he supports, no Supreme Court nominee he has named, can be decided while he is under a criminal investigation. His presidency has no legitimacy until the FBI ― and an independent investigative committee ― discovers the truth.”

The Oscar-winning documentary director has been an outspoken critic of President Trump, having instructed Americans on how to resist his administration from Day 1.

This time, he punctuated his point by using an ironic quote from former Republican President Richard Nixon.

The man does have a flair for inspiring action.

Trump Aide Urges Consumers to ‘Buy Ivanka’

WASHINGTON — The dust-up over Nordstrom’s decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s brand continued to build on Thursday with one of President Trump’s key aides taking to the airwaves to urge consumers to buy her merchandise.

Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s senior adviser, told viewers of “Fox & Friends” early Thursday morning to purchase items from Ivanka’s line.

“Go buy Ivanka’s stuff, is what I would tell you,” Conway said on the show. “I hate shopping and I’m going to get some for myself today.”

Many in the Twitterverse also took to social media to express support for Ivanka Trump’s brand as the hashtag #BuyIvanka began circulating widely on Thursday. Several commenters vowed to stop shopping at Nordstrom and buy the brand elsewhere.
Conway’s comments came a day after Donald Trump lashed out at Nordstrom on Twitter, criticizing the retailer for dropping his daughter’s brand and charging that she had been treated “so unfairly.” Nordstrom announced last week that it had made a decision to stop selling clothing and accessories from Ivanka Trump’s signature line, based solely on the brand’s performance, according to a spokeswoman. Nordstrom also fired back on Wednesday, claiming it dropped her brand because sales had “steadily declined” in the second half of the year.

‘Winter, You Win’: Ithaca Tourism Bureau Urges Travelers To Visit The Florida Keys Instead

“That’s it. We surrender. Winter, you win.”

As the Northeast continues to freeze under snowy, stormy, and blustery conditions, the tourism bureau of Ithaca, New York, has conceded defeat, urging potential visitors to go to Florida instead.

VisitIthaca.com, the tourism website run by the Ithaca Convention & Visitors Bureau, recently added a pop-up window to its site, telling visitors that “due to this ridiculously stupid weather,” they should consider foregoing a trip to Ithaca, where sub-zero temperatures are expected this week. Instead, the website urges, go to the Florida Keys.

“On behalf of 100 million Northeasterners, we’re saying that we’re done with cold and snow,” Bruce Stoff, director of the Ithaca Convention & Visitors Bureau, told the Ithaca Journal of the warm weather message. “This is a way for us to stay engaged with our customers at a time when Upstate New York isn’t exactly top of mind.”

On its part, the Florida Keys homepage told CNN that it had nothing to do with the pro-Florida message. A spokesperson for the Florida Keys Tourism Council called it “the wackiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Hugh Jackman Treated For Skin Cancer For Third Time, Urges Everyone To Wear Sunscreen

For the third time in under a year, Hugh Jackman has reportedly been diagnosed and treated for skin cancer.

The actor’s rep told E! News that Jackman was recently treated for basal cell carcinoma. The rep added that the “X-Men” star is “all good” now.

The 46-year-old Australian was previously treated for basal cell carcinoma in November 2013, and again in May this year. On both of those occasions, the cancer was removed from his nose.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of cancer in the United States, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is usually entirely treatable; however, the Skin Cancer Foundation warns that the disease can cause disfigurement if not promptly treated.

Since his diagnosis, Jackman has spoken out on the importance of using sun protection as well as getting regular checkups.

On Monday, he posted an image on his Instagram account featuring the words “Everybody’s free (to wear sunscreen),” an apparent reference to the spoken word song by Australian director Baz Luhrmann. In May, Jackman posted a photograph of his bandaged nose post-treatment with the plea: “PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!”

Another Basel Cell Carsinoma. All out now. Thanks Dr. Albom and Dr. Arian. PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!

Following his treatment last Spring, Jackman told The Associated Press that he believed his battle with skin cancer had not come quite come to an end.

“I’m realistic about the future and it’s more than likely that I’ll have at least one more but probably many more, which is not uncommon for an Aussie particularly from English stock growing up in Australia where I don’t remember ever being told to put sunscreen on,” Jackman told the news outlet. ”But the beauty of this is it’s all preventable, it’s just about getting proper check-ups. I can be typical man, a little lazy, I couldn’t be bothered and now I’m not lazy at all.”
