Mom of Pregnant Gunshot Victim Who Stayed on Life Support for Weeks to Deliver Baby Says, ‘She Held on For Him’

The mother of a slain pregnant woman who stayed on life support for weeks after being shot so she could have her baby considers the child as a “blessing” even as she mourns her daughter’s loss.

Ohio mom Lindzie Wilson, 25, was shot on March 1 but stayed on life support through April 21, when doctors delivered her baby boy, Bailee. Lindzie, a mom of two other young boys, was subsequently taken off life support and died on April 24, authorities have said.

The fatal shooting, which took place outside of Lindzie’s Springfield home, is still unsolved.

Her mom, LeighAnne Roberts, tells PEOPLE she’s proud her daughter “fought hard for Bailee. She held on for him. She held on as long as she possibly could.”

Bailee was born at 24 weeks and is currently in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit, Roberts says, but his long-term prognosis is good: “He’s doing as good as he can” be, says Roberts, who will raise the child.

Roberts is looking forward to Aug. 15 — Lindzie’s due date — when Bailee is taken out of the incubator and she can hold him.

“He’s definitely a blessing,” she says. “I’m sure up there watching this and is happy about how things went.”

Roberts says that doctors described Bailee’s survival as a “miracle”: One of the bullets that struck Lindzie went through her shoulder and traveled diagonally to her opposite hip, narrowly avoiding her unborn child.

“I would have loved for the miracle for to survive it,” she says. “But there was no hope from day one.”

The choice to take Lindzie of life support, she says, was really no choice at all: It had been 54 days and Lindzie’s condition hadn’t improved.

Still, she says the decision to part with her only daughter brought her “indescribable pain. That’s all I can really say.”

Lindzie was an outgoing, generous person who had been accepted into the Naval Academy before her first pregnancy, her mom says. She loved country music and outdoor activities like dirt biking.

Most of all, she loved her children: She was a “hands-on” mom to her two sons Brendan, 8, and Bentley, 5, who are now being cared for by their father.

“She loved her kids deeply,” Roberts says, adding, “Her smile made you smile.”

Lindzie, says Roberts, had “the most gorgeous blue eyes” as well as blond hair — the latter a trait she shares with little Bailee.

The pain of her death is compounded by the fact that it’s still unsolved, says Roberts.

Police have not named a suspect in the attack, and in a recent press conference, Springfield Police Chief Lee Graf called on the public’s help in the investigation.

Graf declined to say whether police think Wilson knew her attacker.

The thought that Lindzie’s attacker is still at large is “very discouraging,” says Roberts.

Referencing Lindzie’s sons, Roberts says, “I want justice for them. All three of them have to grow up without their mom.”

Anyone with information on the shooting should call 937-324-7685 or 937-324-7716, police have said.

Wife of American Barcelona Victim Speaks Out: ‘I Don’t Want to Wake Up Without Him Next to Me

The wife of the California man who died after a van attack in Barcelona, Spain, on Thursday said she feels “empty” without him.

In a sit-down with NBC News, Heidi Nunes-Tucker, 40, opened up about losing husband Jared Tucker, 42, during their first wedding anniversary trip through Italy, France and Spain.

“I’d found my person: truly the love of my life. That was obvious to anybody that knew us or saw us,” she said. “And I don’t know that you find that again, and I don’t know that I want to.”

Nunes-Tucker shared that she is struggling to cope with the fact that she won’t have her husband beside her for the everyday events.

“I don’t want to wake up without him next to me, and I don’t want to watch TV without him,” she explained. “All of it is just going to be a lot more empty.”

Nunes-Tucker said that the duo were stopping for sangria at a café on the popular street of La Rambla on their way to the beach. They separated when Tucker went to find a bathroom.

“No more than … 30 seconds to a minute after he left, all mayhem broke out and people were screaming and crying and running,” Nunes-Tucker said.

A van had begun plowing through pedestrians, ultimately killing 13 and injuring scores more.

She was pushed inside the souvenir kiosk and stayed there hiding until the chaos was over. Afterwards, she was unable to find Tucker.

Nunes-Tucker felt a sense of hope when she saw a photo of her husband after the attack appearing to receive helped by someone. However, that optimism shattered when she went to a police station and cops revealed Tucker had died in the attack.

“It’s hard not to be angry,” she said. “It’s confusing why anybody would want to hurt anybody like that. Why would you want to hurt strangers? Why would you want to hurt anybody?”

Tucker, who was excited to share this special anniversary trip with his soul mate, never mentioned any hesitation about visiting Europe, despite it being the target of a series of deadly terror attacks in recent years, according to a close friend.

“He didn’t live a life afraid, he didn’t have fear of anything,” Billy Claraty told PEOPLE. “He took things head on all the time and thought he would get through it. They were just out to celebrate one year and have a great time and see some friends.”

In September of 2012 at an art and wine festival in Lafayette, California, Tucker opened his heart to Nunes, a teacher and the mother of a teenage son.

“When he met her, it was immediate, they both knew,” says Claraty. “Heidi was his total life, they had a great, amazing relationship. He had a bumpy road for awhile with past relationships and once he met Heidi that turned around for him.”

A website set up for his wedding to Nunes shows they were married on Aug. 6, 2016, after becoming engaged on Sept. 10, 2015.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Tucker’s family to cover funeral costs and help raise money to go towards his daughters’ education.

Mother of 20-Year-Old Charlottesville Victim Exceeds Fundraising Goal for Medical Costs

Last Saturday, a group of people counter-protesting the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia were running for their lives when James Alex Fields Jr. allegedly drove his car into the crowd. Heather Heyer, a 32-year-old of Charlottesville, was killed in the tragic strike and 19 others were injured, including Natalie Romero, a 20-year-old from Houston.

Romero’s mom, Ericka Chaves—who texted her daughter to be careful that day,—is now standing by her daughter who suffered a skull fracture, and lacerations to the mouth and forehead. With hefty medical costs and no health insurance, Chaves had to start a GoFundMe fundraising campaign to pay her daughter’s expenses. In three days,, it has already exceeded her goal of $ 120k by raising more than $ 134k from nearly 5000 donors.

“At a counter-protest for the Charlottesville White Supremacy rally, a 20-year-old (my daughter, a Houston native) was one of the people who got hit by a car,” wrote Chaves on her fundraising page. “She’s in the hospital and we really will appreciate any help for the hospital’s expenses. Natalie does not have health insurance at this time and has sustained skull fractures among other injuries from the attack. Thank you and God bless you.”

Romero recently finished her freshman year at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. At a news conference on Monday, her mother revealed that Romero is the first in her family to attend college.

Chaves says that she wants more than just words from Donald Trump, who’s received criticism from the left and right for his limp response to the white nationalist rally: “I don’t want President Trump’s words. I want actions,” she said at the news conference.

Romero’s family hopes to have her back in Texas to continue treatment. In the meantime, Chaves has reached out to government officials for financial assistance so she can continue to travel between Virginia and Texas, while her daughter remains in the hospital in her college town.

People Chica has reached out to Chaves for comment, but has not received a response.

Fields Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and fleeing the scene of the crash. The Ohio-native was denied bail on Monday as he secures an attorney.

First Confirmed Manchester Victim Met Ariana Grande And Was Devoted Fan

An Ariana Grande superfan who tweeted her excitement at attending the singer’s concert before Monday’s suspected terrorist attack in Manchester, England, is the first of 22 victims to be publicly named.

Georgina Callander, 18, had just tweeted at Grande the day before the show, “SO EXCITED TO SEE U TOMORROW.” Her school said in a statement that she had died in the suspected attack that also injured 59 people.

She previously shared a backstage photo with Grande from two years ago at the same venue, Manchester Arena. “I hugged her so tight and she said she loved my bow. I can’t get over this, I never will,” she wrote at the time. (Callander is on the left)

In Twitter tributes from friends and loved ones, one woman called Callander “a beautiful girl with the kindest heart & soul.” Another, Sophie Jauregui, wished that her “beautiful best friend” rest in peace, saying she was a “true ray of sunshine and loved everyone for who they were.”

“Once Upon A Time” actor Sean Maguire, who met Callander, also voiced his condolences.

Callander was rushed from the scene of the blast to the hospital, where she reportedly died with her mother at her bedside

Her school, Runshaw College in Lancaster, paid tribute to her in a statement. “It is with enormous sadness that it appears that one of the people who lost their lives in Monday’s Manchester attack was one of our students here at Runshaw College,” the school said. “Georgina Callander was a former Bishop Rawstorne pupil studying with us on the second year of her Health and Social Care course. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to all of Georgina’s friends, family and all of those affected by this loss. We are offering all available support possible at this tragic time, including counselling with our dedicated student support team.”

A Year After Winning For Portraying A Victim Of Abuse, Brie Larson Hands Casey Affleck An Oscar

At last year’s Academy Awards, Brie Larson took home the Best Actress award for her performance in “Room.” The film by Lenny Abrahamson told the story of a woman called Ma, who we eventually learn had been imprisoned in a small shed years before by a man called Old Nick. Although Nick is only briefly seen, his presence is known by the abuse, sexual and physical, he inflicts on Ma and her young son, Jack.

The actress dove into the role, shutting herself away for a month and meeting with psychologists to understand the trauma of her character. She showed great empathy as she hugged each sexual assault survivor after Lady Gaga’s awareness anthem “Till It Happens to You” as they departed the stage at last year’s ceremony.

During Sunday night’s Oscars, Larson took the stage again to announce 2017’s Best Actor winner. The honoree? Casey Affleck for his performance in “Manchester by the Sea.” The thing is, Affleck has been surrounded by controversy after 2010 sexual harassment allegations against him leapt back into headlines last fall.

The announcement made for one uncomfortable picture onstage. Although unlike the time she presented Affleck a Golden Globe in January, Larson chose to give the actor a quick hug as she handed over the gold statue.

Yes, Affleck took home an Oscar in spite of the allegations. (Sexual abuse allegations have squashed Oscar hopefuls in the past; “The Birth of a Nation” was pushed aside for its director’s controversy.) During the 2009 production of another film, Affleck allegedly made repeated sexual comments and unwanted sexual advances toward two women, a producer who he’d worked with him for 10 years and the film’s director of photography. They included the accusation that Affleck crawled into one woman’s bed as she slept.

The cases were settled out of court, and this awards season Affleck scored the BAFTA, Golden Globe, Critic’s Choice, Gotham and National Board of Review awards for the role as Hollywood seemed all too happy to overlook Ben Affleck’s brother’s transgressions.

Then, at Hollywood’s most coveted event, an audience of millions watched a woman who made a wholehearted effort to become familiar with the experience of sexual abuse award a man who’s put all his effort into denying and brushing away accusations of sexual harassment.

It’s true that the allegations against Affleck are far from the scarring experience with which Larson became familiar. But still, although it’s customary for the year’s previous Best Actress winner to award the new Best Actor, the Academy chose to pair the two of them onstage instead of making an exception. In doing so, it sent a disturbing message.

In Hollywood, it seems, sexual harassment is not a serious matter.

EXCLUSIVE: Tony The Tiger Victim Of Food Terrorist Plot?

Is someone kidding around with beloved breakfast cereal mascot Tony the Tiger with a series of viral videos showing him helping a sex worker, a suicide bomber and a police officer who savagely beats a female suspect?

Or is a food terrorist trying to commit a cereal killing by making Tony look bad?

Kellogg Co. said it had nothing to do with what it called “offensive” videos posted this week showing its Frosted Flakes mascot behaving badly. Evidence uncovered by The Huffington Post suggests a well-known food activist, Jani Leinonen, may be involved.

The latest video shows a battered woman named Anna seated inside a California cafe.

“Last night I experienced the worst physical abuse of my life, for no reason,” reads a description of the video at tonyisback.com. “I feel so humiliated, betrayed, my whole body is aching. I am angry but I have not found the courage to fight back. I was so lost, but Tony came and encouraged me to go ahead with my plan to show people.”

Tony the Tiger, in the video, encourages Anna to go through with her “plan” by eating a bowl of sugary Frosted Flakes — “They’re grrrrreat,” he says in his trademark shout.

After eating a bit of the cereal, Anna stands up and shows she has a bomb strapped to her chest, which detonates as the video ends.

Actress Gina Ferranti shared a video still shot from the film on Instagram, The Huffington Post’s investigation shows. Ferranti lists the role on her acting resume, which identifies the director and production company responsible for “Tony.”

Neither Ferranti nor her agent replied to HuffPost’s inquiries.

A photo posted by Gina (@ginanyactress) on

Ferranti’s resume identifies the “Tony” director as Jani Leinonen, an artist from Finland who has been linked to a group of health-food activists called the Food Liberation Army.

The organization was responsible for the Jan. 31, 2010, theft of a life-size Ronald McDonald statue from a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in central Helsinki, according to NPR.org. The kidnappers threatened to decapitate Ronald unless McDonald’s answered questions about the quality of its food and its work ethics. Finnish police identified Leinonen as a suspect and  jailed him for 30 hours, according to a report on the art news website we-make-money-not-art.com.

Leinonen didn’t respond to a request for comment from HuffPost on Friday.

In her resume, Ferranti identified the company that filmed “Tony” as Route 1, a Los Angeles-based firm that provides production services.

Route 1’s website says the company has worked with a number of well-known corporations, including Kellogg. Route 1’s show reel includes two commercials for Kellogg’s Special K products.

Route 1 recently shared a photo on its Facebook page that shows its ”amazing crew” with Jani Leinonen at the Malibu Pier.

“Thank you Tero, Jani, Anti, and Jani #2 for trusting us with your amazing project,” the post reads.

Thank you Tero, Jani, Anti, and Jani #2 for trusting us with your amazing project…. and thanks to our amazing crew for your support!

Posted by Route 1 on Sunday, May 24, 2015

Route 1 didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment from HuffPost on Friday.

A Kellogg spokesperson, who replied to questions without providing a name, said Friday that the company has no relationship with Leinonen, but didn’t say whether it had worked with Route 1.

“As a company grounded in the values of integrity and respect, we recognize people’s right to creative expression,” the Kellogg spokesperson said in an email. “We also believe these videos are offensive and make light of serious issues that deserve real dialogue. Tony is a beloved icon and we will protect the integrity of our brands and our characters.”
