Vivienne Westwood, Burberry Unite Punk and Tradition With Collaboration

CHECKMATE: Vivienne Westwood and Burberry have lifted the veil on their collaboration, with the release of their joint campaign that’s filled with an array of new and old faces dressed in head-to-toe vintage Burberry check.
Shot by David Sims, the campaign features a series of raw, candid portraits that have a whiff of Nineties nostalgia.
Kate Moss poses in a check shirt and matching high-waisted pants; Sistren, a group that creates podcasts about the stories of queer black women, are in mini kilts, knee-high socks and bucket bags all re-created in Burberry check, while musician Leonard Emmanuel wears an oversize T-shirt with the slogan “Cool Earth has a plan to save the rainforest.”

The idea for the limited-edition collaboration, Riccardo Tisci’s first, was to take a unisex approach and create a “union of punk and tradition” by reinventing some of Westwood’s most famous pieces — from berets, to lace-up platform shoes and kilts — using a vintage variation of the Burberry check.
Burberry’s chief creative officer and Westwood also came together to support the nonprofit organization Cool Earth. Westwood plans to customize four T-shirts to be auctioned off with funds going toward supporting Cool Earth.

Swarovski, British Fashion Council Salute Vivienne Westwood at Fashion Awards in London

VIVA VIVIENNE: The British Fashion Council is saluting Vivienne Westwood for her longstanding efforts to get people to buy less and to think about the environment more.
At the Fashion Awards on Dec. 10, the BFC will hand Westwood the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, acknowledging her continued work to shift consumer attitudes and spearhead environmental awareness through her work in the fashion industry.
“Dame Vivienne Westwood will be recognized for being a campaigner for change throughout her career. She has led the way championing humanitarian and environmental issues, and her most recent campaign has led more businesses in the fashion industry in the U.K. to switch to green energy,” said Caroline Rush, the BFC’s chief executive officer.
Nadja Swarovski added that the award, whose past recipients include the late Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani and Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, is part of Swarovski’s wider efforts to promote a sustainable future.
The company, which has also been taking part in the sustainability conversation with a new fine jewelry line created with cultured diamonds and recycled gold, is the BFC’s main partner on the event and has pledged a 300,000 pounds donation to the BFC education fund, ahead of the awards ceremony next Monday

Riccardo Tisci Sets Collaboration With Vivienne Westwood at Burberry

LIVING INSPIRATION: Riccardo Tisci is set to work with one of his original design inspirations, Vivienne Westwood.
Burberry’s chief creative officer, who will unveil his first collection for Burberry in September, announced the Westwood collaboration on Instagram earlier today.
“Vivienne was one of the first designers who made me dream to become a designer,” Tisci wrote. “I am SO honored to announce a new Burberry collaboration with the original British Punk.”
The limited-edition collection will feature re-imagined signature styles from Burberry’s archive and it will launch in December 2018. Proceeds from the collaboration will support Cool Earth, a non-profit organization whose mission is to halt rainforest deforestation.
“When I first started at Burberry, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to approach her to do something. She is a rebel, a punk and unrivalled in her unique representation of British style, which has inspired so many of us. I am so incredibly proud of what we will be creating together.”
Tisci succeeded Christopher Bailey as chief creative officer at Burberry in March. He previously held the role of creative director at Givenchy, from 2005 to 2017.
In May, Tisci gave a sneak peak on Instagram of his creative direction for the British heritage house with

24Bottles cofounders Giovanni Randazzo and Matteo Melotti emphasized Westwood’s longstanding efforts to protect the environment.
Launched on Wednesday during an in-store event held in Milan, the bottle is available at Vivienne Westwood’s stores worldwide as well as on 24bottles.com. It retails at 39 euros.

Vivienne Westwood, Andreas Kronthaler Design for Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

For the Vienna Philharmonic’s 175th anniversary, Dame Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Knonthaler — her designer partner, creative director and husband — have designed a new stage outfit, the Philharmonic Suit, for the musicians.
The orchestra will present their look for the first time during their Vienna New Year’s Concert on Jan. 1, under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.
Previously, the Philharmonic musicians have performed in the Stresemann — otherwise known as the stroller — for daytime concerts and tailcoats for evening performances. Westwood and Kronthaler have redesigned the Philharmonic Suit for both day and evening performances. Both the women and men will be fitted with a tailor-made bespoke suit from Westwood, each designed with the functional requirements of the individual musician in mind.
The men’s suits are tailored in the traditional cut of Savile Row bespoke and have been designed in lightweight, high-quality English sustainable fabrics. The black mohair and wool cut-away jacket has been designed and modified in a modern interpretation of a traditional tailcoat, with a raised back line to support the musicians’ movement. The jacket is paired with traditional black-and-white stripe fine wool trousers and a classic Westwood double-breasted waistcoat, all woven by British mills.
For day concerts, the male musicians
