Fenty to Open Pop-up at The Webster in SoHo

The Webster said Monday it has partnered with Fenty, the new luxury house launched by Rihanna with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton last month, for its first pop-up experience in the U.S.
Fenty will take over the first two floors of The Webster at 29 Greene Street in SoHo with a distinct installation and retail experience designed for the luxury multibrand retailer. The pop-up opens June 19 and runs through June 30.
“I am so proud and honored that Rihanna and her team chose to launch the new Fenty release with The Webster SoHo. She has an incredible personality and style and is the true epitome of a powerful woman,” said Laure Heriard-Dubreuil, founder and creative director of The Webster.
First established in Miami’s South Beach district by Heriard-Dubreuil in an historical Art Deco building designed in 1939 by Henry Hohauser, The Webster now operates flagship stores in New York, Houston, Costa Mesa, Calif., South Beach and Bal Harbour, Fla.
WWD broke the news on Jan. 17 that the pop star was working with LVMH on the high-profile fashion project, an extension of their wildly successful Fenty Beauty line. The singer and the French luxury conglomerate confirmed the project May 10, saying the new

David Mallett Opens New York Salon at The Webster

David Mallett is bringing his signature brand of Parisian-chic hairdressing to New York.
Mallett, an Australian native whose taxidermy-filled eponymous salon in the Second Arrondissement is something of a fashion insider institution in Paris, is set to open a third location — his first in the U.S. and first outside Paris — on the top floor of Laure Hériard Dubreuil’s The Webster in SoHo, on Oct. 16.
The 1,600-square-foot space will operate as a full-service, eight-chair salon, with color, cutting, styling and treatment services overseen by Mallett himself and staffed by longtime employees of his Paris salons, including two hairdressers, two colorists and a client director. Mallett, who opened his second outpost at The Ritz Paris in 2016, will split his time between New York and Paris going forward.
The salon on the fifth floor of The Webster was designed by French architect Charles Zana to replicate the style of Mallett’s Paris salons, which are inspired by French-style craftsmanship. Lamps, furniture and other decor were custom-made for The Webster by François Pouenat, a fifth-generation French artisan metalworker. In a nod to his native Australia, Mallett partnered with Australia-based Dinosaur Designs’ Louise Olsen on accent pieces. Mallett purposefully to designed the New York space

Stephen Webster Hosts Menswear Presentation

HOMEWARE AT HARRODS: Stephen Webster hosted a menswear presentation at his studio in London on Saturday. Held at the second floor of his Mayfair office on Mount Street, the designer showcased a small range of homeware which will be available for purchase at a pop-up titled “Exclusively Men” hosted by Harrods on June 22.
Homeware was a category that Webster previously catered to only for special orders such as glassware and cutlery for his bespoke clients. Located in the Advanced International department on the lower ground floor, his pop-up will be the first time he will present his offering to retail shoppers which will also include his rtw items as well as limited edition pieces. There was a bronze knife set with a series of animals such as a bull and a cock featured on the steel handle. He looked to Sputnik, and shaped a silver salt and pepper shaker in the form of a satellite.
“Tainted by the Seventies moniker ‘medallion man’, gentlemen and jewelry have taken several years to become reacquainted,” said Webster of the project. “Even though the democratization of men’s jewelry has now led to men from all walks of life being able to find a place for

The Great Triumvirate: Webster, Clay, and Calhoun

The Great Triumvirate: Webster, Clay, and Calhoun

Enormously powerful, intensely ambitious, the very personifications of their respective regions-Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, and John C. Calhoun represented the foremost statemen of their age. In the decades preceding the Civil War, they dominated American congressional politics as no other figures have. Now Merrill D. Peterson, one of our most gifted historians, brilliantly re-creates the lives and times of these great men in this monumental collective biography. Arriving on the national scene at the onset of the War of 1812 and departing political life during the ordeal of the Union in 1850-52, Webster, Clay, and Calhoun opened-and closed-a new era in American politics. In outlook and style, they represented startling contrasts: Webster, the Federalist and staunch New England defender of the Union; Clay, the “war hawk” and National Rebublican leader from the West; Calhoun, the youthful nationalist who became the foremost spokesman of the South and slavery. They came together in the Senate for the first time in 1832, united in their opposition of Andrew Jackson, and thus gave birth to the idea of the “Great Triumvirate.” Entering the history books, this idea survived the test of time because these men divided so much of American politics between them for so long. Peterson brings to life the great events in which the Triumvirate figured so prominently, including the debates on Clay’s American System, the Missouri Compromise, the Webster-Hayne debate, the Bank War, the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, the annexation of Texas, and the Compromise of 1850. At once a sweeping narrative and a penetrating study of non-presidential leadership, this book offers an indelible picture of this conservative era in which statesmen viewed the preservation of the legacy of free government inherited from the Founding Fathers as their principal mission. In fascinating detail, Peterson demonstrates how precisely Webster, Clay, and Calhoun exemplify three facets of this national mind.
