Ermenegildo Zegna Group Profits Climb 64% in 2017

MILAN – A new brand strategy and a turnaround in markets including China, the Russian Federation, Macau, Singapore and Japan helped the Ermenegildo Zegna Group post a 64 percent jump in net profits last year. In the 12 months ended Dec. 31, earnings rose to 32.8 million euros, compared with 20 million euros in 2016.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization climbed 13.6 percent to 142 million euros, compared with 125 million euros, in the previous year.
Revenues increased  2.3 percent to 1.18 billion euros, compared with 1.15 billion euros in 2016.  At constant exchange, sales gained 4.5 percent.
“The positive results of 2017 are the outcome of many factors which have interacted nicely thanks to the brand strategy that was inaugurated with the arrival of Alessandro Sartori as artistic director,” said Gildo Zegna, chief executive officer of the family-owned group. “The success of the collections, the development of capsules able to integrate the offer of seasonal collections, and the intensification of marketing initiatives starting with communication campaigns that support storytelling linked to our products and events have allowed Zegna to participate in the recovery that is characterizing the global markets. Thanks to the omnichannel, or the integration between physical and virtual channels, we have not

Dion Lee Named the 2017 Australian Fashion Laureate

SYDNEY – Dion Lee has been named the Australian Fashion Laureate for 2017.
The New York-based Australian was presented with the award at a gala dinner for 300 at Sydney’s Barangaroo Cutaway venue on Thursday evening.
At 32, Lee is the youngest-ever recipient of the Laureate, which is now in its 10th year and recognizes outstanding industry achievement.
Previous recipients include designers Akira Isogawa, Toni Maticevksi and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia founder Simon Lock.
The Laureate is the latest in a string of accolades for Lee, who launched his business in 2008, after graduating from Sydney’s Fashion Design Studio and quickly garnering a following for his deconstructed tailoring and signature dresses with complex surface treatments.
The 2013 sale of a strategic stake in the business to the Sydney-based Cue Clothing Co enabled the designer’s rapid retail expansion in Australia, where he operates eight standalone stores, in addition to e-commerce and concessions within the David Jones department store chain.
“It [the Laureate] is a bit of a landmark moment for me – knowing that it is voted by your peers,” said Lee, who is now a New York Fashion Week runway regular and boasts over 70 global wholesale stockists.
“It has been a really surreal journey and not

Charlize Theron, Brie Larson Attend Porter’s Incredible Women Gala 2017

Porter, Net-a-porter’s print magazine, on Wednesday held its second annual Incredible Women Gala at NeueHouse West Hollywood, in association with Estée Lauder. Hosted by editor in chief Lucy Yeomans and Universal chairman Donna Langley, the event drew Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Elizabeth Banks, Mary J. Blige, Melanie Griffith, Raquel Welch, Kate Bosworth and more.
The Incredible Women list, now in its third year, grew out of a cover line on Porter’s first issue. It has since spawned a talk series that began with Christy Turlington Burns in 2014 and has included American Ballet Theater principal dancer Misty Copeland, film director Sofia Coppola and Serpentine chief executive officer Yana Peel. The first gala was held last year in London at the V&A Museum.
Partnering with Langley, who was profiled in the magazine in the past, made sense since this year’s list of 50 women was focused on the entertainment industry. The timing of this year’s gala comes when women in the industry have banded together in support of speaking out against sexual harassment. The magazine commissioned women including Copeland, Larson and the organizers of the Women’s March, Tamika Mallory and Bob Bland, to write open letters touching upon crucial issues facing women in

Arjé RTW Fall 2017

Anyone in the market for a fully reversible shearling that fits like a big hug, look no further than Arjé’s third see-now-buy-now collection from Urban Zen alumni Bessie Afnaim Corral and Oliver Corral. Their his-and-hers styles are what Bessie described as “a gorgeous cloud” of cognac suede and nubby shearling in oversized and slightly snugger fits. The husband-and-wife team focused on a palette of navy, black and camel and luxurious fabrics, such as double-faced cashmere, in silhouettes that are just left of classic. A robe coat had slits up the sleeves to give it a bit of a cape feel and pants were cut with exaggerated bell bottoms. The look could take you from the city to the chalet and the collection will be in store in three weeks — well before before ski season.

Shop.org 2017: Kobe Bryant Talks Career Transition, Books, Oscars Chatter

Kobe Bryant used to dream of winning basketball championships and now may be fulfilling what so many in Hollywood often fantasize about, with buzz building around a potential Oscar nomination.
The retired Los Angeles Laker’s short animated film “Dear Basketball” has been chatted up as a possible Oscar nominee in what he said was meant to be “my retirement letter to the game.”
“To sit here right now, to even hear you say that the film is even being considered for an Oscar nom, that’s crazy. I’m winning championships. That’s what I dream of. That’s beyond any realm of any dream whatsoever,” he said.
Bryant, chief executive officer of Kobe Inc. and a general partner at Bryant Stibel, closed out the National Retail Federation’s annual Shop.org conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center Wednesday talking about the transformation he’s undergone via projects taken up since his move away from professional basketball.
Chief among those is Granity Studios, which he said he’s focused on building. The company’s name is a fusion of the words “greater than infinity,” with the bold vision of creating a media company that tells stories withstanding the test of time. The athlete said he’s working on eight different novels, something he said

TGS 2017: Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain Announced

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain has been announced for PlayStation 4.

The game was revealed during Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show briefing – it’s being developed by Yuke’s and published by D3.

A reveal trailer has also dropped, showcasing some of the series’ staple bug-fighting action – but it also looks to add a more grounded tone than other light-hearted entries in the series.

Publisher D3 is calling Iron Rain “new territory” for the franchise as it looks to move away from its “traditional” style. This can be seen in the trailer, as our narrator delivers despondent lines including “war is all we know”, a far cry from the playful premise of a giant bug invasion.

The other major difference? It looks a lot nicer than the mainline EDF games – even the upcoming Earth Defense Force 5, which was shown off in the same conference

Mother Of Pearl RTW Fall 2017

Mother Of Pearl showed its first see-now-buy-now collection today, with creative director Amy Powney channeling the recent experience of remodeling her new East London home into a strong collection via damask and brocade interiors fabrics, cushions evolved into playful bags and clutches, and quilted bedspreads were reimagined into crepe-de-chine outerwear.
She looked to the Romantic era’s writers, artists and composers, and the way they idolized the beauty of nature in reaction to the Industrial Revolution, and embraced the drama of her favorite artist, Caravaggio, in moody floral prints on heavy silk.
It was another confident offering that balanced the opulence of looks like the head-to-toe golden damask opening outfit with the hygge of all-knitted ensembles and the tongue-in-cheek Nineties accents that are characteristic of Powney’s vision. This season they came via injections of bubblegum-pink and pea-green inspired images by photographer Larry Sultan of his parents in Palm Beach in his 1992 book “Pictures from Home.”
The bordeaux floral quilted dressing gown coat and matching pants that closed the show was a standout, as were knitwear like the soft pink cabled sweater with a frill along a deep yoke that came with matching ribbed pants and a knitted scarf that trailed behind, and wide-leg
