Why Under Armour Collaborated With A$AP Rocky on a Skate Shoe

More than a year after rumors emerged, the Under Armour and A$ AP Rocky collaboration is finally available to purchase.
Officially named the AWGE x Under Armour SRLo, the sneaker will be sold today at an experiential pop-up in Harlem. The space, titled AWOL, which was created in partnership with AWGE, A$ AP Rocky’s creative agency, and Matte, a creative agency and production company, features four floors.
The basement is dedicated to retail, the first floor is a skate park, the second floor is an AWGE interactive space, and the third floor will host a rave. The shop exemplifies what influenced Rocky when developing the shoe with Dave Mayhew, a former pro skater who helped design the original Osiris D3 20 years ago with Brian Reid. The pop-up will be open to the public from 4 p.m. to midnight.
The skate category is a new world for Under Armour, but they lent Rocky complete creative freedom and tied the shoe back to performance by integrating its Hovr cushioning technology to make it light and comfortable. The shoe retails for $ 250, one of Under Armour’s most expensive price points, and comes in black along with a black-and-white colorway.

Janelle Monáe, A$AP Rocky and Banksy Take to Walltime

VIRTUAL STREET STYLE: One of the Bowery’s busier corners, Houston Street, has a continually changing attraction thanks to the free app Wall time.
Banksy, Janelle Monáe and A$ AP Rocky are among the talent who have had their videos beamed on the wall there. Users can tune in remotely to watch it via live webcams and listen to synched soundtracks on iPhones. But Wall time can also be used to share Vimeo or YouTube videos on walls anywhere in the world. Live since January, the Wall time app is a new way to bring virtual content into a public space. Cofounder and chief executive officer Alex S. Vandoros said, “It adds what we believe is a new dimension to social media and audio visual content. Anybody can see anything on their iPhone. But there’s not really a platform out there that puts together virtual cloud-based content and actual walls — or other outdoor assets.”
Monáe’s new music video, “Pynk,” was teased last week downtown with a “sort of hush-hush release.” The app’s dual function allows people to listen to high-quality audio in synch with the projection. Not long ago while having dinner nearby at Cherche Midi, Atlantic Records executives happened to see A$ AP Rocky

A$AP Bari on the Future of Vlone

“I’m not into stores,” said A$ AP Bari, a member of the A$ AP Mob who works with A$ AP Rocky and Edison Chen on Vlone, a highly sought-after streetwear line. “I don’t shop at them.”
Bari, who was in New York on the night of April 6 to celebrate the opening of the Tupac by Vlone pop-up on Ludlow Street, is into experiences — a buzzword that’s often thrown around by retailers but rarely realized. He currently has no interest in selling his pieces at stores, but he’s open to working with them.
“I would do collaborations with different stores, but for them to sell my clothes? No.”
Over the past year, Vlone has gained a following for its graphic product and pop-up retail concepts that are held in various locations — Miami for Art Basel, Austin, Texas, for South by Southwest and Harlem, because that’s where Bari and Rocky grew up. And Vlone has collaborated with brands including Off-White, No Vacancy, Fragment and Nike; a pair of Nike x Vlone Air Force Ones sold for $ 94,800 on eBay.
“I want to do things for the right reasons,” said Bari. “And most of my collaborations come out of friendships.”
According to Bari, he didn’t initially revere Tupac in the same
