What to Watch: A Look Ahead

Revisited and reinvented, the return to more classic and elegant dressing took center stage for fall with a new tailored aesthetic emerging to augment the streetwear looks that have dominated the past few years. Black leather also made its presence known in everything from blazers, shirts, outerwear and even full-on suits, giving this vintage-style piece a modern spin. Meanwhile, leopard prints were spotted on coats, vests and even trousers, making this fall bold and fun.

The 31-year-old New York City native, born David Brewster Jr., came from humble beginnings, becoming a Crip as a teen, and later, facing a stint in prison for selling drugs. “Them four words mean everything to me,” he continued. It’s also the title of a 2016 collaborative EP with Philadelphia rapper Kur. “You’re born a certain way, but you don’t gotta die like that.”

MEN’S FORUM: The Whitaker Group’s James Whitner Relies on Instinct and Close Consumer Connections to Stay Ahead

For The Whitaker Group’s founder James Whitner, being the consumer is essential to knowing the consumer.
With an assortment of stores via his company’s four retail entities — Social Status, A.P.B., Prosper and A Ma Maniére — Whitner emphasized the importance of being submerged with the people you are trying to connect with. He asked, “Are you focused on the consumer? Do you know who the consumer is and why? Most people don’t. You’re casting a wide net in men’s wear…I’m the guy. I’m the guy who’s buying the stuff and wearing the stuff.”
Aside from anticipating what his shoppers want, Whitner spoke of how he tries to design spaces that they will emotionally respond to. “I’m always trying to re-create the places and spaces I’ve been in. I feel like I have a romantic affair with the consumer in the process. Can someone cue the music? [Romantic tunes follow.] When I walk into a store, this is how I feel. I’m being romanced by the romance,” he said.
Referring to outdated business practices that can’t keep up with quick fire social media and fashion’s rapid speed of change, Whitner said, “You’ve got to set your businesses up to move like we move.

Critic’s Choice Awards Fashion Review: Brighter Times Ahead

Seeing so many all-white fashion looks on the Critic’s Choice Awards blue carpet Sunday night, you might have thought Hollywood was making another political statement, following last year’s all-black fashion action at the Golden Globes to protest gender inequality.
But the trend is just a trend, at least according to Allison Janney. “We’re all just feeling it,” she said, looking a bit like a superhero in a white Alberta Ferretti cape and pants look, piled high with Neil Lane diamonds.
“Perhaps it is a subconscious message of hope. Brighter times ahead,” added her stylist Tara Swennen.
Or perhaps Hollywood stars, like so many others this January, are obsessed with organization guru Marie Kondo’s new Netflix show, “Tidying Up!” Whatever the reason, the fashion news of the night was a clean sweep. Emily Blunt seemed to get the memo, wearing a crystal-embroidered white silk Prada gown that her stylist Jessica Paster described as “fresh and simple.” Constance Wu romanced in Rodarte, and Lady Gaga in billowy blush Calvin Klein (though sadly, without hair colored to match this time).
Women wore the pants—a lot, with Julia Roberts choosing a deconstructed tuxedo by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Louis Vuitton and Claire Foy projecting power in a navy blue asymmetrical

Celine Suspends E-commerce Ahead of Hedi Slimane Debut

COUNTDOWN: Just nine months after its launch, Celine has halted trading on its e-commerce site in the latest move building up to creative director Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for women and men, scheduled to be unveiled in Paris on Sept. 28.
Since Lady Gaga whipped up a frenzy by posing on Instagram on Aug. 30 with what is widely believed to be Slimane’s first bag for the French fashion house, the brand deleted its entire Instagram account and unveiled a new logo — minus the accent on the “e” — in addition to the first images from Slimane’s inaugural campaign.
Customers accessing the celine.com web site are now greeted with a film of trucks bearing two images from the campaign driving through the streets of New York City, in a move timed to coincide with New York Fashion Week, and a countdown to showtime.
Instagram followers requesting access to the online shop are directed to send their details through direct message to the brand’s customer service.
With the long-awaited launch of its e-commerce site last December, Celine joined the ranks of luxury brands that are bracing against the onward march of Internet behemoths such as Alibaba and Amazon by shoring up their own online

Dior Moves Spring Show a Day Ahead

EARLY BIRDS: Christian Dior, typically the first big name to open Paris Fashion Week in recent years, has moved its show ahead one day, to Sept. 24, safeguarding that distinction.
The venue and time have yet to be finalized, but it is likely to be in the early afternoon. The Paris shows go through Oct. 2.
Gucci had previously revealed that it would do a one-off showing in Paris on the evening of Sept. 24. The event is to mark the crescendo of a three-part homage to France conceived by the Italian brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, who paraded his resort collection in Arles. Gucci began its ode to France starting with its pre-fall advertising campaign, which harks back to that country circa 1968, when student marches and riots sparked popular rebellions against military and bureaucratic elites.
While foregoing a show in Milan for the season, Gucci is planning a special event to be held at its Hub venue on Sept. 19, the second day of Milan Women’s Fashion Week, scheduled to run Sept. 18 to 24.

Melania Joins Trump Amid Cheating Scandals as Family Leaves D.C. Ahead of March for Our Lives

As half a million students head to Washington, D.C. on Saturday for the March for Our Lives rally, President Donald Trump skipped town to spend the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida.

The 71-year-old former Celebrity Apprentice host was photographed alongside wife Melania Trump and their 12-year-old son Baron Trump disembarking Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport late Friday evening.

Their family trip also comes as Donald is embroiled in allegations that he had affairs with two women, porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal, while married to Melania in 2006. The White House has denied both affairs.

Earlier in the day, the first lady chose to leave the White House on Friday without her husband — again. Though the official White House schedule stated that the first couple planned to depart the White House together aboard Marine One to Joint Base Andrews, Mrs. Trump opted to depart Washington, D.C. solo following her speech honoring “women of courage” at an event on Friday, CNN reported.

When asked about the change of plans, a rep for the first lady simply told PEOPLE: “Mrs. Trump is here at Mar-a-Lago.”

Meanwhile, the president shared a photo of himself arriving at the Maryland military facility alone on Instagram.

The father of five is expected to remain at Mar-a-Lago for the weekend. The first lady is scheduled to stay for at least a week while Barron is on his spring break vacation.

On Thursday, CNN aired a headline-making sit-down with McDougal, in which she apologized to the first lady for the alleged 10-month sexual relationship. “What can you say except, I’m sorry? I’m sorry. I wouldn’t want it done to me, I’m sorry,” McDougal, 46, said as she fought back tears. “I know it’s the wrong thing to do.”

McDougal has filed suit against American Media, Inc., the company that owns The National Enquirer, to get out of an agreement blocking her from speaking about her alleged affair with the now-president. Daniels has also sued Trump to end her 2016 nondisclosure agreement on her own alleged relationship with the former businessman.

A source close to Melania recently told PEOPLE that the first lady is “furious” over the nonstop controversies engulfing the White House and her husband’s presidency. “What’s happening is exactly what she didn’t want to happen,” the source said. “They’ve literally become like the Kardashians: scandals, divorces, headlines.”

Attendance Up at Who’s Next Ahead of Planned Changes

PARIS — The Who’s Next women’s apparel trade show, held in Paris in January, was bustling with signs of growth, laying the ground for a revamp of the show’s aging business model under the leadership of new management.
“We can no longer just be sellers of square meters,” said Frédéric Maus, who was recently appointed as co-general director of WSN Developpement, the company that organizes Who’s Next and its accessory counterpart Premiere Classe.
Instead, WSN aims to provide a vast range of business and fashion solutions throughout the year, while maintaining seasonal events as “extraordinary moments” for meeting and viewing new collections in person. The goal is to reposition the role of the trade shows.
“The transformation of the trade shows will only happen through a service model, and it’s only by putting ourselves in the center of the playing field that we will be able to offer services that are useful for solving people’s problems,” said Maus, 40, who steered the successful digital evolution of French catalog retailer La Redoute.
“I’m persuaded that when the trade shows transform themselves, the whole rest of the industry will benefit. There are no boundaries,” he told WWD. “We’ve realized now that trade shows are no longer

Reese Witherspoon and Steve Harvey Bring Daughters to Paris Ahead of Famed Debutante Ball

Reese Witherspoon and Steve Harvey brought their respective daughters, Ava Phillippe and Lori Harvey, to Paris this week for a traditional “coming out” prior to officially presenting them in society at Saturday’s 25th annual Bal des Debutantes.

Leading up to the “Le Bal” debutante presentation at the Peninsula Hotel, both families celebrated Thanksgiving in Paris — going shopping, visiting museums and taking in the local sights in the City of Light.

Witherspoon, 41, and Phillippe, 18, once again looked like twins when they were photographed wearing identical matching mother/daughter black outfits while catching a mix of Paris’ haute couture and boutique shopping (with stops at Chanel, A.P.C. and Gucci). Being in Paris, they also made an Eiffel Tower visit (natch).

On Thanksgiving Day, Phillippe accompanied Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth to the Centre Pompidou before taking a walk through the Tuilieries Garden, posting a photo of 5-year old brother Tennessee on a carousel.

On Friday, the mother/daughter duo attended the Bal des Debutantes’ traditional “day before” breakfast and run-through, with the teen trying her designer gown (she’ll wear Giambatttista Valli reportedly) while Lori, 20, practiced wearing a creation from Elie Saab — telling Madame Figaro, her nightmare “was probably falling.”

“My dress is very long, so I did a couple of try-ons this morning just to see that I didn’t get caught in the fabric,” she said.

After a few trials, Lori expressed confidence in her dress and had begun looking forward to Friday evening’s two-hour waltz rehearsal with her brother Wynton, 20, who’ll serve as her escort.

The dance instruction was also attended by Ava and her escort, Padmanabh Singh, the 19-year old Maharajah of Jaipur.

A polo playing acquaintance of Prince William, Singh’s dashing presence at Le Bal has attracted considerable press attention in Paris. Known to friends as “Pacho,” he’s a member of India’s national polo team — who told journalists he’d only asked friends show him the steps for the waltz (the ball’s traditional opening dance) in just the past few weeks. Besides Ava, he has a ready-made dance partner in his sister the Princess Gauravi Kumari of Jaipur, who is also making her debut this season.

Inspired by the traditional “coming out” parties of centuries past, the annual white-tie and tails event has been held in Paris since 1992. Previous debutantes have included the daughters of Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood and Bruce Willis. Last year’s class included Ella Beatty, the daughter of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty.

Others making their debut this year include British model Stella Tennant’s daughter Cecily Lasnet, 17, (wearing Chanel) and Belgium’s Princess Natasha d’Arenberg, 20, who’ll dress in Belgian designer Frederic Luca Landi. Americans represent a third of this year’s 20 selected debutantes. Among them Lily Webster 17, (wearing Alexis Mabille) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Charlotte Bell, 17, of New York City and Los Angeles, Jeanne Malle 16, (wearing Viviane Westwood) of New York City, and Laila Blavatnik 18, of London and New York City.

How the Clooneys Do Date Night: George and Amal Have Ultra Glam Dinner in Venice Ahead of Premiere

All eyes may be on director George Clooney‘s new film Suburbicon at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, but on Friday it was his wife Amal Clooney who was the one to watch.

The 39-year-old human rights lawyer stepped out with Georgefor a dinner date at Ristorante Da Ivo in Venice, Italy — turning heads before being whisked away by a water taxi in a stunning strapless blue Missoni gown.

Hugging Amal’s fabulous figure was a sparkly dress — from the designer’s Resort 2018 collection — which included a sweetheart neckline, sheer corset bodice, and a fringe detailed skirt. Amal accessorized the $ 3,995 frock with dangling earrings, copper-colored shoes and a bold red lip.

George, 56, didn’t look too bad himself, in a charcoal suit and blue button-down shirt.

The duo, who arrived in Venice on Thursday, when they dined with pal Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barros. Damon, 46, is starring in Suburbicon, which tackles racism in a suburban community in 1959.

Celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury is in town with Amal and shared a photo of Mrs. Clooney’s look from Friday on Instagram.

Venice is a sentimental place for the Clooneys, having been the place where they tied the knot in 2014. Tilbury was there then too, doing Amal’s makeup for her big day.

Saturday’s premiere will mark the first public event for the new parents since they welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in early June in London. The family of four spent much of the summer at their villa on Lake Como, which is a four-hour drive west from Venice.

“Right now my job is changing diapers and walking them around a little bit,” George told the Associated Press of life as a dad. “I really didn’t think at 56 that I would be the parent of twins. Don’t make plans. You always have to just enjoy the ride.”

Texans Told to Evacuate Ahead of Hurricane Harvey as Massive Storm Approaches: ‘Don’t Take Any Chances’

Texas residents are being told to evacuate and take all necessary precautions as Hurricane Harvey is expected to touch down on Friday night, in the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Texas Coastal Bend in nearly 50 years.

“I strongly urge all Texans to heed warnings from your local officials and I also urge that you immediately follow evacuation orders for all impacted counties — particularly in the Corpus Christi and Houston areas where the storm surges and flooding from Hurricane Harvey are most likely,” Gov. Greg Abott said in a statement.

Harvey, which is expected to touch down Friday night or early Saturday morning along the Texas Gulf Coast, is expected to bring up to 35 inches of rain, CNN reports. Flood waters and destructive waves could reach heights of up to 12 feet along the Texas coast.

The storm, currently Category 2, is expected to become a Category 3 hurricane by time it makes landfall with winds of more than 100 mph, CNN reports. As it strengthens, forecasters said Harvey will be the nation’s first Category 3 hurricane to make landfall in nearly 12 years, according to The Weather Channel.

Officials have labeled Harvey a “life-threatening storm” that will put millions of people in a “grave risk,” the Associated Press reports.

“Please take all necessary precautions to save your life and to minimize risks,” Gov. Abott added in the statement. “Don’t take any chances and evacuate when you are ordered.”

Now, local businesses in the storms path are shutting down and residents are clearing out grocery stores in preparation. Meanwhile, Corpus Christi’s Driscoll Children’s Hospital was airlifting 10 sick, premature babies from its neonatal intensive care unit to a hospital in Fort Worth, according to the AP.

The infants were expected to arrive at the hospital by early Friday and an official told the publication that hospital staff feared that power outages at the Corpus Christie hospital might disable the babies’ ventilators.

Daring Rescues in the Wake of Hurricane Matthew

Abott has requested that 700 National Guard members be activated for the storm and Ports of Corpus Christi and Galveston are closed, according to CNN.

Residents lined up during the week to catch buses to safer areas and roads were packed with backpack-carrying residents heading out of town.

“I’m shaking inside, but for them, I’m trying to be strong,” a Corpus Christi mother of two said, according to CNN.

Alex Jones Doubles Down On Threats Ahead Of Megyn Kelly Show

Alex Jones, conspiracy theorist and host of “InfoWars,” on Saturday intensified his call for NBC News to release a full, unedited recording of his controversial interview due to air Sunday on the network’s “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” program.

During a 15-minute rant posted to the live-streaming app Periscope, Jones said that if NBC did not publish at least about 100 minutes of his unedited interview on their website, he would release eight or more hours of secret audio recordings and footage he has of Kelly and her news team.

The recordings, Jones claims, were made in his car and at dinner with Kelly, and in the control room of his studio. During the ramblings he posted, he also insults longtime NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and calls NBC News and Kelly “frauds.”

Jones’ threat came after earlier last week he published parts of an off-the-record phone call he had with Kelly before the videotaped interview took place. During that conversation, Kelly tells Jones that she was “not looking to portray you as some boogeyman or just any sort of gotcha moment,” adding, “I just want to talk about you.”

Jones said on Saturday that he is calling on NBC to release the unedited version of his and Kelly’s interview after watching the channel’s teaser of the upcoming profile

“I’ve already see your promo, a bunch of deception. So that’s why I know that you’re lying. That’s why I released those earlier tapes,” Jones said on Saturday.

“You can easily post that [Sunday] night, so people can see what I said,” he added, referring to the unedited version of their interview.

Critics ― which include families of the children killed during the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings ― have slammed Kelly and NBC News for giving Jones and his rhetoric a platform.

Jones, whose “InfoWars” show has amassed an audience of millions, had previously suggested that the 2012 school massacre was a hoax and claimed the victims’ parents were pretending to mourn as a ruse to promote gun control. He has since conceded that he now believes the shooting, in which 20 children and six adults were slaughtered by a gunman who then killed himself, did occur.

Other dangerous conspiracy theories Jones has peddled on his show include a false story known as Pizzagate that claimed Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign staff operated a sex trafficking ring out of a pizza restaurant in Washington. The rumors prompted a North Carolina man to bring an assault-style rifle into the restaurant to investigate.

After Jones leaked his phone call with Kelly, NBC News told HuffPost that the network still planned to broadcast the interview as scheduled.

NBC News did not return HuffPost request for comment on Saturday when asked if the media outlet would be releasing an unedited version of Kelly and Jones’ interview.

Olivia Newton-John’s Cancer Diagnosis: Health Experts Weigh In on Her Battle Ahead

Olivia Newton-John is battling breast cancer again, 25 years after her first diagnosis in 1992, and oncologists are weighing in on her long — but treatable — journey ahead.

“It’s a very long time from her primary and that usually means that it’s very treatable, and you can put it into long term remission,” explains Carolyn Runowicz, an oncologist and associate dean at the Herbert Wertheirm College of Medicine at Florida International University, who is not treating Newton-John. “It’s never good news to have a recurrent tumor — that’s devastating to the patient. But the further out you are from your initial diagnosis, the better the prognosis.”

Doctors have diagnosed the star, 68, with breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum (a bone in the lower back), according to a statement the singer posted on Facebook. She has also put her U.S. and Canadian concert tour on hold after initially postponing two weeks ago because of severe back pain from what she thought was sciatica.

“We’re lucky that there’s new drugs being developed and new treatments over time that make a difference, but this is something that 10 years of her life will be about trying to control this,” says Laura Esserman, director of the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center. “Part of anybody’s treatment should be about how you can handle every day in spite of the situation you find yourself in.”

Metastasis is the development of secondary malignant growths from a primary site of cancer, and the sacrum, where Newton-John is affected, is situated between the two hipbones of the pelvis.

“Bone metastatic disease is the most common type of metastatic disease from breast cancer,” explains Raquel Prati, a breast surgeon at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. “When it goes to the bone only, she may not need very aggressive treatment.”

According to Prati, metastatic to the bone tends to behave better than in other areas that breast cancer can affect, such as the liver or the brain.

Along with natural wellness therapies, the entertainer will be treated with a “short course of photon radiation therapy,” according to the statement.

Sheri Marquez, a radiation oncologist and medical director at the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Center in California, notes that Newton-John’s diagnosis “is not considered curable, but considered treatable” and breaks down what her type of radiation treatment typically entails.

“We use higher energy x-rays to kill cancer cells, basically,” Marquez says. “When you get radiation therapy, the x-ray is stronger, and it’s focused treatment so we can shape where the radiation goes.”

As Marquez explains, radiation therapy is planned for the area that needs to be treated, so the side effects of treatment will relate only to what’s treated.

“When we’re treating the pelvis, and the rest of the body is being protected, she won’t lose the hair on her head,” Marquez says. “She may get nausea, vomiting or diarrhea from irritation in those treatment areas.”

Since bone marrow would be the target in this case, there’s a chance that white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet count could be affected. With that, there’s a higher risk of infection, bleeding, and fatigue.

With a short course of treatment, Marquez says that over 90 percent of patients will report some benefits and eventually over 50 percent will have complete resolution of their pain.

“We try very hard with the treatment to spare what we don’t need to treat so patients can get back to their lives,” Marquez says.

In 2013, Newton-John lost her beloved sister Rona to brain cancer shortly after her diagnosis. Whether her family history will come into play now, Prati says, “Brain cancer tends not to be related to breast cancer, but it depends on how much more family history she might have.”

“All cancers are genetic, but all cancers are not inherited,” adds Runowicz. “So you have to take a very careful history.”

British Designer Gareth Pugh Releases Short Film Ahead of London Fashion Week

CINEMATIC TEASER: British designer Gareth Pugh has released a cinematic teaser ahead of his fall show, which takes place during London Fashion Week. Pugh will stage a runway show at 8 p.m. in Collins Music Hall in Islington Green on Feb 18.
Filmed in black and white, the production was directed by Ruth Hogben and Andrea Gelardin, who worked with creative consultant Carson McColl.
The film — which runs in under three minutes — opens up to a phrase from William Shakespeare’s King Lear, “‘Tis the time’s plague when madmen lead the blind.” The movie features Latin American singer and songwriter Rebekah Del Rio singing “Llorando,” a Spanish-version of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” in a cappella. The “Mulholland Drive” star — wearing a fur coat — is pictured performing outdoors at an apartment complex.
Pugh said the moment was as “an iconic visual conceit, and a fitting metaphor for truth in a post-truth arena and a vision of a world on the precipice of anarchy.”
No stranger to a theatrical display, the designer’s spring show held last September took a cue from the opera. In addition, the designer unveiled more than 60 costumes on the stage of Palais Garnier in Paris.

The Kardashians Canceled Their Christmas Card, But Went Full Speed Ahead With The Festivities

If you’ve been patiently waiting for the annual Kardashian Christmas card, it’s just not happening this year. Christmas has officially come and gone without the first family of reality TV releasing a traditional holiday photo.

Of course, since Kim Kardashian is still adjusting after she was robbed in Paris this past October, and Kanye West was only recently released from hospital ― not to mention all the drama between Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna ― we can’t say we’re surprised the family skipped what was really just another excuse for yet another elaborate photoshoot.

Still, this isn’t the first year, the family has skipped the sending out the card. Following their most over-the-top Christmas card ever, shot by David LaChapelle in 2013, Kim told Glamour UK that they “ran out of time” in 2014.

So while a card isn’t in the cards this year, that doesn’t mean the Kardashians didn’t keep up with their other holiday traditions.

On Saturday night, the family gathered together for matriarch Kris Jenner’s annual Christmas Eve party, where guests wore their sparkliest attire and were treated to performances by John Legend and Babyface, according to The Daily Mail.

Though Kim has yet to make a real return to social media herself, she was spotted enjoying herself in her sisters’ Khloe and Kylie’s Snapchat stories.

David Collins Studio Looks Back, and Ahead With Exhibition

PART OF THE FURNITURE: David Collins Studio marked 30 years in the interiors business with a flash exhibition at Phillips in London that looked backward — and forward in time. The 24-hour show, “Past Present Future,” addressed those themes, with highlights including a martini cart swiped from The Connaught Hotel’s bar — whose decor is a contemporary riff on Edwardian splendor — and endless images of the restaurants, hotels and private homes that glow with that distinctive Collins halo.
Interiors are filled with rich color palettes, textured surfaces, offbeat details — such as the little gold Champagne buzzers at Bob Bob Ricard in Soho — and, most importantly, flattering lighting able to make even sleep-deprived individuals glow.
The exhibition featured images, sketches, Post-it notes from Collins, swatches and even an example of the delicate molding — with a feathery wing pattern — that Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen’s creative director, created with the studio for the store interiors. There were images of the Graff estate in South Africa — where the terrace follows the curve of the mountainside — and examples of the painted silk and hand-stitched panels of Hyde Park at The London hotel in Manhattan. It’s OK To Be Fat. Go Ahead. You’re Allowed.

I know the fat shamers on the anti-fat Reddit threads and the “concern trolls” all over the world will disagree heartily, but I am allowed to take up as much space as I want to take up. And, you know what else? I do not OWE IT TO ANYONE to be fat and healthy, either.

Contrary to popular opinion, I can be fat and healthy if I want to be. I can also be fat and unhealthy. Fat people have existed as long as humans have existed, so get used to us. We’re not going to go and hide just because a bunch of people who have a lot of time to waste on a computer are creating hate sights dedicated to making fun of our fat body. I’ve been fat for over 30 years. My fat skin is extra thick and used to your vile and mean comments. They roll right off my back. (And right over my fat ass, too.) And, the mean threads that are started by the fat haters actually fuel my fire and serve as a reminder as to how much there is still to do in the Body Acceptance movement.

To me, it’s plain and simple: You get to exist any way you want to exist. As Pink so eloquently put it recently when being attacked about her body: “I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you, either. I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off.”

Pink is saying what a lot of us “fatties” in the Body Acceptance movement repeat over and over. “My body, my business. Your body, your business.” I have had my run-ins with people (total strangers) trying to police my body and the customers of my lingerie boutique. I even was on CNN talking about the right to be fat and wear lingerie. My boutique and I got embroiled in a fierce media debate about whether or not my plus size lingerie boutique glorifies obesity.

I think it’s happiness that really infuriates and confuses some fat haters. People are often baffled when they see happy fat people. And when you add in the idea that we are not addicted to dieting or working out or obsessed with the notion that we should become some thin version of ourselves, well, that really throws the shamers and haters for a loop. I literally had to defend, on national TV, our right to exist as fat women who want to wear sexy and very revealing lingerie. All bodies are good bodies. All bodies deserve to be celebrated. No one body is better than another body.

So, yes, you can EXIST and take up more space than your neighbor. You do not have to quality that existence with a “but, I am fat and healthy.” You don’t have to justify anything to anyone about your body and what it looks like on the outside or the inside. The people who want to police your body are just sad, unhappy people with way too much time on their hands. They have nothing better to do. Me, on the other hand, I have shit to do. And, the first item on my TO-DO list is to help fat, thick, curvy women to find some sexy lingerie and help them celebrate their fat, luscious bodies.
