Overly In-Depth Analysis Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Teaser Might Reveal A Secret

On “Game of Thrones,” the sword Oathkeeper has been there and back a-Gwen.

The sword, which now appears in a new Season 7 teaser, was originally part of Ice, the Valyrian steel greatsword of House Stark. Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) had the Stark sword melted down and reforged into two different blades.

He then gave the reforged sword that became Oathkeeper to his son Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who later gave it to Gwendoline Christie’s character Brienne of Tarth. In Season 6, Brienne tries to give it back to Jaime, as she’s completed her quest to get Sansa (Sophie Turner) to safety, but Jaime doesn’t take it back. Instead, he tells her, “It’s yours. It will always be yours.”

OK. Phew. That’s the sword’s story. Or, it was until the new Season 7 teaser.

The teaser reveals a glamorous, sexy shot of Oathkeeper’s hilt. But wait, something is amiss. Who’s holding it?

The sword should still be with Brienne ― as we recapped, she’s still its owner ― but the hand holding it appears to be covered in freckles.

This is a picture of Gwendoline Christie:

And here’s a zoomed-in version of that picture:

Gasp.

That hand in the teaser and Christie’s hand in the photo look hella different.

Does this reveal a dark secret for Season 7? Will someone else get Oathkeeper? Does this mean Brienne’s end is coming?

The teaser could just be a behind-the-scenes image, but what if it’s not?

Other than unconfirmed leaks, we don’t know a lot about what’s happening in Season 7. Though, there is a theory from A Song of Ice and Fire readers that claims Brienne was secretly killed in George R.R. Martin’s novels by a zombified Catelyn Stark. Perhaps we will see Christie’s character meet her end in Season 7.

But, if the hand isn’t Brienne’s, whose could it be? Here are some suspects:

Suspect #1: Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau)

Despite his respect and love for Brienne, could Jaime Lannister have reclaimed Oathkeeper for himself? Did he have her wrapped around his little freckled finger only to betray her?

A day may come when Jaime’s love for Brienne fails, but it is not this day. His hands appear to be clean … and freckle-less.

Suspect #2: Tormund (Kristofer Hivju)

We know Tormund is into Brienne from all the thirsty as heck looks he gave her in Season 6. Could she have finally let her shield down long enough for Tormund to get close?

Better luck next time, dude.

Unless those freckles are just dirt — which, hey, they could be — it’s probably not Tormund.

Dang, man. Keep your cool.

Suspect #3: Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen)

Jorah Mormont is the definition of an oath-breaker. The guy fled from Westeros after illegally selling poachers into slavery, and later was secretly spying on his queen, Daenerys Targaryen.

Those are all bad things.

So far, Jorah’s journey has been bumpier than Dany’s first time flying on Drogon.

Khaleesi banished him, he contracted greyscale while attempting to deliver Tyrion to her, and he was banished again before eventually getting on good terms with the Mother of Dragons.

Jorah was already denied the sword of House Mormont, Longclaw, which is now in possession of Jon Snow. Somehow, getting the sword Oathkeeper would let Jorah come full circle.

And, most importantly, the guy appears to have freckly hands:

Boom. Caught freckle-handed.

Could the hand from the teaser belong to one of the suspects above? Or did we awkwardly analyze those hands for nothing?

Both are possible. Both make us uncomfortable.

There is some good news for Brienne fans, though. Freckled hands of various crew members of “Game of Thrones” seem to appear in another “In-Production” teaser from the show.

Plus, another first look shows Lena Headey (Cersei) getting makeup and hair touch-ups behind the scenes.

If the tease with Oathkeeper is only a behind-the-scenes shot, the person holding it may not have an impact on the storyline. It could just be a crew member or stunt coordinator. That’d mean the sword is still safe with Brienne … for now.

We know from the show that all men must die. Hopefully this teaser doesn’t mean that one of our favorite female characters will die, as well.

Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis in Archaeological Computational Modeling

Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis in Archaeological Computational Modeling

This volume deals with the pressing issue of uncertainty in archaeological modeling. Detecting where and when uncertainty is introduced to the modeling process is critical, as are strategies for minimizing, reconciling, or accommodating such uncertainty. Included chapters provide unique perspectives on uncertainty in archaeological modeling, ranging in both theoretical and methodological orientation. The strengths and weaknesses of various identification and mitigation techniques are discussed, in particular sensitivity analysis. The chapters demonstrate that for archaeological modeling purposes, there is no quick fix for uncertainty; indeed, each archaeological model requires intensive consideration of uncertainty and specific applications for calibration and validation. As very few such techniques have been problematized in a systematic manner or published in the archaeological literature, this volume aims to provide guidance and direction to other modelers in the field by distilling some basic principles for model testing derived from insight gathered in the case studies presented. Additionally, model applications and their attendant uncertainties are presented from distinct spatio-temporal contexts and will appeal to a broad range of archaeological modelers. This volume will also be of interest to non-modeling archaeologists, as consideration of uncertainty when interpreting the archaeological record is also a vital concern for the development of non-formal (or implicit) models of human behavior in the past.

Slavery vs. Freedom?: A Cost Analysis

Is there an advantage to being a slave rather than a minimum wage worker, who lives on a subsistence salary? A slave is a piece of property that needs to be maintained, just like a car or tractor. Hence from a health point of view, the situation of the slave is better than that of many workers in America, who still struggle with health costs, despite the advances of Obamacare.

A slave, like a pet, also has to be fed and treated with plenty of TLC, otherwise it will become squirrelly and indolent. Repeated punishments and beatings have not been found to increase the effectiveness of slaves. Minimum wage workers, however, require little TLC. If a worker in a fast food joint doesn’t perform his job, there’s always a replacement waiting in the wings. Of course, freedom is the one thing that slaves don’t have. Everyone talks about freedom and dreams of it, but once it arrives its benefits fall far short of the promise that was once held out. Sure it’s nice to be free, but freedom like independence means that you end up having to fend for yourself. It’s nice to be free if you can hack it, but if you end up having a hard time in an increasingly competitive marketplace, then you may want think about relinquishing your freedom.

In general, when you create a spreadsheet and list all the pluses and minuses of freedom versus slavery, you’re going to find that it’s a very close call. Would you rather be enslaved by a relatively nice owner, say a Thomas Jefferson type, or work for McDonald’s for the rest of your life?

Form-Oriented Analysis

Form-Oriented Analysis

Form-based applications range from simple web shops to complex enterprise resource planning systems. Draheim and Weber adapt well-established basic modeling techniques in a novel way to achieve a modeling framework optimized for this broad application domain. They introduce new modeling artifacts, such as page diagrams and form storyboards, and separate dialogue patterns to allow for reuse. In their implementation they have developed new constructs such as typed server pages, and tools for forward and reverse engineering of presentation layers. The methodology is explained using an online bookshop as a running example in which the user can experience the modeling concepts in action. The combination of theoretical achievements and hands-on practical advice and tools makes this book a reference work for both researchers in the areas of software architectures and submit-response style user interfaces, and professionals designing and developing such applications. Clinical and Epidemiological Analysis for HIV-Exposed Infants in a Low Resource Setting: Evidence-Based of Pmtct Interventions

Clinical and Epidemiological Analysis for HIV-Exposed Infants in a Low Resource Setting: Evidence-Based of Pmtct Interventions

Research Paper from the year 2011 in the subject Medicine – Public Health, grade: A, Atlantic International University (School of Human and social studies), course: Clinical epidemiology, language: English, abstract: Definitions: focus on the advantages and disadvantage of drugs, hence their effects. This let Kenneth Rothman, 2002 to say: “outcomes research marries epidemiologic methods with clinical decision theory to determine which therapeutic approaches are the most cost-effective”. 10] This approach has lead to the concept of evidence -based medicine where sufficient proof are available to support a medical theory in disease management and promotion of various guidelines useful in clinical setting. Nonetheless, more medical and non medical conditions are still undiagnosed, under- diagnosed or wrongly diagnosed. As a consequence, extra, less cost-effective and unnecessary treatments are being prescribed. In this scenario, would the key to evidence- based medicine lie on diagnosis processes which are opaque to quantification and analysis, or on the deep-rooted knowledge of disease natural history, its transmission chain and physiopathology, or on the accuracy of diagnostic tests which have different level of interpretations according to their sensitivity or specificity? Or on prevention inputs to control the disease outcomes? In Zambia, roughly 80,000 infants are born annually from HIV infected mothers and are at risk of contracting the disease. An average of 20,000 are born with HIV each year (40%).The rate of vertical transmission varies from 15-25% in non-breastfeeding infants and double in breastfeeding ones. (Ministry of Health, National Protocol Guidelines, 2010). 14] For this research paper focused on PMTCT, we selected data for 3 years study from 2008 to 2010.This was a retrospective cohort study. The data included all pregnant women who attended ANC, those who were counselled and tested for HIV and those who delivered at the facility. Our indicators

Fragments of Femininity: A Comparative Analysis of the Art of Tracey Emin and Kiki Smith

2014-11-20-KikiSmithbyMiriamIvanoff.jpg

*This post contains some graphic content.

Tracey Emin and Kiki Smith have starkly different visual approaches in their art yet thematically their work is inextricably intertwined. Both women eschew the expected and express different aspects of both the feminine psyche and life itself in unpredictable ways. Emin is radical about love; Smith about life and death. Their work is often both precious and difficult to stomach (think Emin’s blankets and Smith’s statues excreting beads). They are provocative, evocative and not afraid to expose themselves — a raw honesty radiates throughout their work that is rare to find.

This honesty manifests itself as Emin cries out for intimacy by exposing details of her private life that others wouldn’t dream of revealing. In a letter that accompanies My Abortion 1990 she recounts the moment when, in a London taxicab, her body expelled a second fetus, overlooked during the initial procedure, “I had killed the thing which I could love the most. Forgive me, tiny little thing… Forgive me — leave me.”

Smith is honest in her portrayal of the female form in unconventional ways — often from the inside out, neutralizing it so that it stands for mankind as a whole, challenging the tradition of male artists to paint the female in an erotic light. In How I Know I’m Here, a massive linocut, Smith depicts several internal organs, including a heart, brain, lungs, and reproductive systems splayed out around etched lines that represent her own feet, face and hands. Although Smith’s work can be seen as rather feminist, honing in on this as a political statement can be a mistake, or at least a dangerously narrow view. Her approach is far more personal — she explores the significance of how the body functions systemically in order to gain a stronger grasp on reality.

Smith’s probing stops at no bounds and delves into the human body’s most intimate inner functions — urination, menstruation, reproduction, and so on. She creates statues excreting bodily fluid in the form of beads. By making urine or menstrual blood beautiful, Smith probes at our societal reaction to such things. She also emphasizes the lack of importance we normally attribute to these fluids by placing them on an altar in jars with gothic lettering, each fluid in equal standing.

Emin does not shy away from the exploration of the significance of bodily fluids either, confidently displaying used tampons alongside her sketches giving the two equal importance. In My Bed, Emin displays her bed after a depressive episode, covered in suspicious stains and leaked menstrual blood in all its glory.

For Smith and Emin, the body is in perpetual motion. Neither artist has any shame in laying the ghastliest aspects of femininity stripped bare. This introspection strips their work of pretense down to an almost primeval level. The exposure of the self creates a vulnerability that leaves the work open to interpretation.

This vulnerability is also reflected in the use of humble craft materials. Smith uses papier-mâché for many of her sculptures and Emin uses appliqué techniques and household fabrics to create her patchwork quilts. The lack of durability of these materials as compared to that of objects like bronze sculptures creates a sense of urgency that reflects their need to create their art — to express something physically that has been building up inside. Emin’s tapestries show fragmented sentences; often just words, names or phrases. Smith’s works consist of fragmented body parts, with no logical context in the body from a biological standpoint, with the spleen and bladder displayed next to the more socially glorified heart and brain. These fragments add to this sense of urgency, as both artists emphatically express that nothing lasts forever.

The exploration of the ephemeral is so honest and pure in Smith’s work that her art can be difficult to write about. She is not trying to make a statement. Instead she follows whatever is preoccupying her at the moment without necessarily knowing why. “I don’t want to be trying to do anything,” Smith says. “When I was younger, people’s work was so expressionistic that to me it felt indulgent or self involved.” Based on this view Smith may not be a fan of Emin’s work, which is often self-indulgent. Emin is this big, booming voice that is deliberately loud because she desperately wants to be heard. Yet the honesty still permeates through Emin’s willingness to be open about a past as she sees it, inspiring the viewer to look back to the events that brought them into their present state of existence. Smith may be better at playing the innocent, but she also questions the nature of our existence through her exploration of life, death and the existential.

The autobiographical component in both artists’ work allows them to question our existence from a personal level, where they each recognize their own struggle. Emin uses her confessional art to deliberately bare her soul on canvas so that the spectator feels that they immediately know her on an intimate level. Her honesty supersedes the unfamiliar and this is what makes her art beautiful. Smith often features her self in her work, literally and physically. She is the first to admit this: “My work was very autobiographical. In the pieces about birth I was trying to reconcile an ambivalent relationship to being here on earth because earth is a difficult place to be sometimes.” Emin and Smith both create art through this therapeutic method of working out on canvas whatever is preoccupying their minds at the moment. Smith has said, “I’m just trying to make my life okay. I’m just trying to have a good life; that is my ambition: to be better at being here.” Emin speaks of art as her raison d’être, as something that has saved her life many times. To this, Smith would agree, “You know, we’re not doing research; our lives are at stake.”

Equity Valuation and Analysis w/eVal , 3rd Edition

Equity Analysis and Valuation with eVal closes the gap between the theoretical treatment of equity valuation and the actual practice of valuing a company using real-world data. While the underlying theories of financial analysis and valuation are given their due, the goal is always to answer the question, ‘What is this company really worth?’Equity Analysis and Valuation with eVal takes the view that sound forecasts of the future financial statements are the key input to a good valuation, and that most other aspects of the valuation process are mechanical. To that end, the book employs eVal, an Excel-based workbook that guides the user through the forecasting and valuation processes while taking care of the mundane computations. By providing a unified interface for the valuation process, eVal allows you to focus on the forecasting, not on the spreadsheet. The book covers the topics of business strategy analysis, accounting analysis, financial analysis, forecasting and valuation and also alerts readers to common pitfalls encountered in equity valuation and analysis. Face Image Analysis with Convolutional Neural Networks

Face Image Analysis with Convolutional Neural Networks

In this work, we present the problem of automatic appearance-based facial analysis with machine learning techniques and describe common specic sub-problems like face detection, facial feature detection and face recognition which are the crucial parts of many applications in the context of indexation, surveillance, access-control or human-computer interaction. To tackle this problem, we particularly focus on a technique called Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) which is inspired by biological evidence found in the visual cortex of mammalian brains and which has already been applied to many different classi fication problems. Existing CNN-based methods, like the face detection system proposed by Garcia and Delakis, show that this can be a very effective, efficient and robust approach to non-linear image processing tasks. An important step in many automatic facial analysis applications, e.g. face recognition, is face alignment which tries to translate, scale and rotate the face image such that specific facial features are roughly at predened positions in the image. We propose an efficient approach to this problem using CNNs and experimentally show its very good performance on difficult test images. We further present a CNN-based method for automatic facial feature detection. The proposed system employs a hierarchical procedure which first roughly localizes the eyes, the nose and the mouth and then renes the result by detecting 10 different facial feature points. The detection rate of this method is 96% for the AR database and 87% for the BioID database tolerating an error of 10% of the inter-ocular distance. Finally, we propose a novel face recognition approach based on a specic CNN architecture learning a non-linear mapping of the image space into a lower-dimensional sub-space where the different classes are more easily separable. We applied this method to several public face databases and obtained better recognition rates than with classical face recognition approach
