Flag & Anthem Names NFL Player Christian McCaffrey Brand Ambassador

Flag & Anthem has tapped NFL star Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers as its brand ambassador. Previously, the men’s wear brand started by Azod Mohit and Brad Gartman has partnered with Ford Motors on a capsule collection and collaborated with country star Dierks Bentley, as well. The partners seem to have been fated to work together. Gartman said he had followed McCaffrey’s career closely, going back to the athlete’s time at Stanford, where in 2015 he broke the NCAA record for all-purpose yards, was named Associated Press Player of the Year and was a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. Meanwhile, McCaffrey said he shopped the brand and wore the clothes before shooting the campaign. Gartman said McCaffrey is the “ideal core customer for the brand,” and they are in similar “emerging” stages, with McCaffrey starting his pro-football career in 2017, one year after Flag & Anthem launched. Gartman also described the partnership as “natural.” The brand photographed its fall campaign in Colorado, which seems to have been a stroke of fate as well, considering that McCaffrey was born and raised in the state. While McCaffrey described the campaign shoot as “cool” and “easy,” Gartman expressed just how “natural” the shoot was. “It was kind

Anthem Is ‘Not Working Very Well’ Admits EA CEO

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has admitted that Anthem’s ambition to bring together story-focused gaming and looter-shooter mechanics is “not working very well”, but he vows that the publisher will stand by both the game and developer BioWare in hope of improving Anthem’s fortunes.

Talking to GameDaily.biz, Wilson said of the two player demographics Anthem attempted to bring together: “One was traditional BioWare story driven content, and the other was this action-adventure type content. About the 30 or 40 hour mark they really had to come together and start working in on the elder game. At that point everyone kind of went, ‘Oh, hang a minute.’ Now the calculation is off.”

Anthem: Day One Patch Will Improve Loading Times

Because the world is strange and confusing, Anthem’s day one patch will arrive a week after thousands of people began playing it. Thankfully, it should improve one of the most common complaints about the early version – its loading times.

Arriving on the game’s official release date of 22 February (it was made available to EA Origin Access Premier subscribers on the 15th), the patch is wide-ranging to say the least, but puts loading times (and a bug that caused infinite loading screens) right at the top.

To gauge how big a problem that’s been, the Anthem subreddit has been ablaze with posts on the subject. One post sees u/dragonoob44 timing how long it takes to exit Freeplay to change gear, then re-enter, which results in over 7 minutes of loading. It’s not an out-of-the-ordinary complaint.

Carrie Underwood Surprises Fans With National Anthem At Husband’s Game

On top of being a country superstar and an adoring mother, Carrie Underwood is one seriously supportive wife.

On Monday, Underwood ― who’s married to Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher ― surprised hockey fans with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem before game three of the NHL playoffs when Fisher’s team played the Chicago Blackhawks at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

For the powerhouse performance (watch a video above), the seven-time Grammy winner sported her husband’s No. 12 jersey and painted her nails to match the team’s blue and gold colors.

Underwood may have been a good luck charm for Fisher because the Predators won the game 3 to 2.

The couple tied the knot in July 2010 and welcomed a baby boy named Isaiah in February 2015.

“Time sure does fly when you’re having fun and you marry up,” Fisher wrote to his wife in an anniversary Instagram post in July 2016. “I’m very grateful to have an amazing wife and mother by my side!”

Underwood shared a similar sentiment, writing, “Six years ago today, I said ‘I do,’ to this handsome fella. I meant it then and I mean it now. God put us together and continues to bless our marriage. I couldn’t imagine this life without you.”

Below, more photos of the sweet couple.

Very blessed to have these 2 strong, beautiful and Godly Moms in my life! #happymothersday

Anthem

Anthem

For people of African descent, music constitutes a unique domain of expression. From traditional West African drumming to South African kwaito, from spirituals to hip-hop, Black life and history has been dynamically displayed and contested through sound. Shana Redmond excavates the sonic histories of these communities through a genre emblematic of Black solidarity and citizenship: anthems. An interdisciplinary cultural history, Anthem reveals how this “sound franchise” contributed to the growth and mobilization of the modern, Black citizen. Providing new political frames and aesthetic articulations for protest organizations and activist-musicians, Redmond reveals the anthem as a crucial musical form following World War I. Beginning with the premise that an analysis of the composition, performance, and uses of Black anthems allows for a more complex reading of racial and political formations within the twentieth century, Redmond expands our understanding of how and why diaspora was a formative conceptual and political framework of modern Black identity. By tracing key compositions and performances around the world-from James Weldon Johnson’s “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” that mobilized the NAACP to Nina Simone’s “To Be Young, Gifted & Black” which became the Black National Anthem of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)-Anthem develops a robust recording of Black social movements in the twentieth century that will forever alter the way you hear race and nation.

Sleater-Kinney Just Made Bowie’s ‘Rebel Rebel’ The Political Anthem Of 2017

“Let’s kick some ass next year,” Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss shouted to a San Francisco crowd on New Year’s Eve. “We’ve got a lot of work to do!”

Weiss then joined bandmates Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, breaking into a rowdy rendition of the late David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel.” Suddenly, the 1974 hit seemed made for 2017, giving us the political anthem we needed for a new year.

Sleater-Kinney was joined by Spoon’s Britt Daniel and the Thermals’ Hutch Harris, who also sang lead vocals on the song. But Tucker truly stole the stage with her final verse. Beating her chest with her fist and pulling at her hair while belting Bowie’s iconic words, Tucker became a conduit for all the emotion buzzing around the end 2016.

Hot tramps, the new year is upon us. Let’s channel Bowie’s badness and Sleater-Kinney’s fierceness with all our might, and charge fists first into 2017.

Maya Rudolph Sings Beyonce-Inspired National Anthem At Tulane Graduation

When you invite Maya Rudolph to be your commencement speaker, you can’t expect just a typical speech. Rudolph brought it out at Tulane University’s commencement on Saturday, giving a hysterically inspiring address before doing her own unique interpretation of the National Anthem.

“It really is a true honor to be with all of you as you begin this new phase of your life,” Rudolph told graduates, “as you embark on this exciting and challenging journey of being sober during the day.”

It was the first of many jokes throughout the speech, which included an Oprah imitation (“YOU get a diploma!”) and an extended explanation of her alleged procrastination to write the speech.

Rudolph talked about her telling her father — a Tulane grad — that she wanted to be on Saturday Night Live when she graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She went through improv classes and learned the classic rule: to any situation, say “yes, and.”

“Say yes, and,” Rudolph said as advice to the graduates. “Create your own destiny. Hold onto your old friends. Kiss your mama. Admit what your dreams are. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t know what you’re gonna do tomorrow, but work hard and don’t be lazy. And put away your damn iPhone once in a while.”

To end her speech, she asked graduates to stand. Taking advantage of her time on a mic in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, she sang a ridiculous national anthem — with a bit of Beyonce mixed in.

This Is 12-Year-Old Taylor Swift Singing The National Anthem

A video featuring a baby-faced Taylor Swift is making us feel all kinds of patriotic this week.

In 2002, at the tender age of 12, Swift — decked out in an American flag blouse and red accessories — took to the court before a Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers game in Philadelphia to belt out the national anthem. A cappella, no less.

The video of Swift’s cherubic performance has been making the rounds on the Internet this week, inducing major “awwws” everywhere. (Watch the throwback clip above.)

T. Swift-related nostalgia has been plentiful in recent days. Just last week, to celebrate the success of her new album “1989,” the 24-year-old star posted a photograph of her 12-year-old self on Instagram.

“I was … going through my braids phase.’ #nofilternecessary,” she wrote.
