Browns Introduces Women’s Active Wear With 33 Brands

LONDON — Browns is expanding into the active wear category and launching today, July 16, with 33 brands and an exclusive capsule with street wear label Misbhv. There will be a mix of luxury to performance wear brands available such as Versace Active to Adidas and Nike.
“Brands are really starting to focus on understanding and creating performance wear pieces geared towards women instead of just ‘shrinking it and pinking it.’ I felt that with this new category, it could really represent the whole of Browns’ audience,” said Ida Petersson, women’s wear buying director at Browns.
In an effort to represent as much of the Browns audience as possible, Petersson has included items that stretch far beyond the gym wear range such as performance wear for yoga, running, cycling, basketball and football.
“There is so much happening on the women’s activewear side and I want to make sure we cater to all those women. We’ve seen the cycling genre becoming stronger and stronger and with our global audience, basketball is big in the U.S.,” said Petersson.
Browns will also be offering three exclusive styles with Misbhv that include neon bodycon dresses, other key drops include pieces from Fantabody, Adam Selman Sport and Adidas x Daneille Cathari.

Browns Hosts Dinner to Mark Fantastic Man’s Book About Men’s Dressing

LIGHT FANTASTIC: What’s the opposite of hi-tech? The new book by Fantastic Man magazine, “What Men Wear and Why.” A soft cover printed on recycled paper, it includes lots of charming interviews with men about how they dress themselves every day. The interviews are long — no social media-sized commentary here — and, crucially, there are no illustrations or images. Readers — refreshingly — are forced to use their mind’s eye.
Browns hosted a cocktail and dinner on Saturday night during Paris Men’s Fashion Week to mark the book’s publication, and its collaboration with Fantastic Man. The retailer has given over the windows of its store on South Molton Street to different quotes and themes from the book. The event took place at Brasserie Vaudeville, across from the Bourse, with guests including Stefano Pilati, Martine Rose, Liam Hodges, Raf Simons, Benjamin Alexander Huseby, Serhat Isik, Lucie and Luke Meier, Charles Jeffrey and Lou Dalton.

Browns Gets On Board With the BFC’s NewGen Initiative

LONDON — British retailer Browns is amping up its efforts to support emerging talent by becoming the latest partner of the British Fashion Council’s NewGen scheme.
NewGen promotes London’s most promising up-and-comers by providing mentoring, financial support and showcasing opportunities during London Fashion Week.
As a partner, Browns said it will work toward strengthening the designers’ support network by further funding the scheme and providing mentorship programs that will focus on passing on the Browns team’s business and retail expertise.
Members of the Browns team will also sit on the NewGen judging panel to determine which designers will receive sponsorship in the coming seasons.
Current recipients include Halpern, Richard Quinn, Phoebe English, Matty Bovan, Liam Hodges, Kiko Kostadinov and Alighieri.
“Through partnerships like this, we will continue to demonstrate the Browns ethos, and we look forward to working closely with the BFC and the designers to build out meaningful initiatives with support and mentorship at the heart,” said Holli Rogers, the retailer’s chief executive officer.
Earlier this year, Browns also set up a new department dedicated to scouting and supporting young talent and is now looking to expand it into different segments, to reflect the huge variety of categories emerging talent can belong to.

AFTER MIDNIGHT: In addition to an eye for emerging talent, Browns knows how to throw a good party.
To celebrate the launch of its exclusive capsule with designer-of-the-moment Michael Halpern, the retailer invited the London Fashion Week crowd to the famous burger joint Five Guys.
It might not have been their usual hangout, but attendees — including Aymeline Valade, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Mary Charteris and performer Honey Dijon — seemed to enjoy the change of atmosphere and the refreshingly laid-back vibe.
They ate burgers at the silver tinsel-covered booths, drank beers and milkshakes, took selfies with the disco balls that were scattered across the venue and danced until the early hours — a rarity at fashion parties — to performances by the band HMLTD and DJ Kim Ann Foxman.

British Designers Turn Out for Browns East Halloween Store Launch

SPOOKY SPACE: “I’m not a big fan of Halloween I must say, but I have to be for my daughter,” said Roksanda Ilincic at the Browns East launch in London on Tuesday evening. “We were carving pumpkins in the office and also with my daughter. So there were a lot of pumpkins going on.”
Ilincic, Peter Pilotto, Christopher de Vos, Sandra Choi, Molly Goddard and Nicholas Kirkwood were among the guests who turned out to mark the launch of the retailer’s concept store in Shoreditch.
In October, Browns opened the 4,000-square-feet unit on the corner of Club Row and Redchurch Street in east London. It is the first iteration of the Browns Nomad project that will see the retailer move its multi-brand shop from venue to venue, or city to city, around the world.

Just one block from the concept store and around the corner from Shoreditch House, the retailer hosted a Halloween-themed party. The warehouse venue was transformed into a spooky space that was darkly lit and smoky.

Meet Zac Brown’s ‘Better Half’: How He and Jewelry Designer Wife Shelly Created an Inclusive Camp for Kids — Together

Zac Brown and his jewelry designer wife, Shelly, are proving they’re the definition of power couple.

In Opry Entertainment’s new YouTube series, “Better Half,” premiering exclusively on PEOPLE, the spotlight instead shines on the spouses of country superstars who are managing busy careers of their own.

“I’m so excited to be able to share my company and my passion for design with so many people,” Shelly, who is featured in the first episode of the series for her business Shelly Brown Jewelry, tells PEOPLE. “Designing is something that I’ve been doing my whole life and getting to create wearable pieces for every woman is something I’m incredibly proud of.”

From creating her own childhood jewelry to attending school for design, Shelly, 33, was able to launch her jewelry line — which includes a range of everything from statement necklaces to stackable crystal bracelets — in 2015.

“Design has always been something that has really come naturally to me,” she says in the clip. “It has been really fun to be able to bring that to the table now just the way that I did back then.”

An exciting part of the business to her is seeing celebrities like Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman and Kacey Musgraves sport her pieces.

“It’s fun to see people who have this amazing style really include our pieces in what they wear,” she says.

Whether it’s creating new jewelry pieces for her line or helping out on music videos for Zac Brown Band, Shelly keeps a “do it yourself” attitude.

“I have no idea how other people do it, but it seems like we have two days before this video is going to shoot so we have to get all this stuff together. It’s high-intensity and adrenaline,” she says, adding that some of the wardrobe items from shoots are on display in the Country Music Hall of Fame. “To see such a huge part of your life laid out in a way like that brought tears to my eyes, because there are so many memories. Just to really be able to look at how much has happened and how much has been accomplished is amazing.”

Along with running her business and raising her and Zac’s five children, Shelly also provides an incredible opportunity to other kids through the inclusive camp she created with her husband called Camp Southern Ground.

“Camp Southern Ground was Zac’s dream from the time he was 14,” she says. “Over 10 years ago, on our first date, he told me he was going to start a camp for kids.”

She continues: “Every time we would live somewhere, we would end up buying an extra piece of land like, ‘That’s going to be where the camp is going to go.’ So when we got our house that we’re in now, it was just so meant to be.”

Though Camp Southern Ground focuses on military families and children with neurological disorders, Shelly explains that they want to be able to serve everyone — and even gets emotional sharing the impact that the camp has had on these kids’ lives.

“Last summer, we had a lot of children who came to us who were on the autism spectrum,” she says. “We had one little boy in particular whose mom wrote us an email afterwards how he had never been invited to a birthday party or anything like that. he had all of these friends and went home and talked about that.”

Through the camp, Shelly is teaching her kids — son Alexander, 3, and daughters Joni, 6, Georgia, 7, Lucy, 9, and Justice, 10 — that helping others is the “most important thing” and that the “world does not revolve around” them.

As for what she’s teaching her husband, it’s “to slow down a little bit and look around.”

“But there’s nothing that he loves more than those kids and a daddy,” she says. “That’s what matters.”
