Grailed and Future Come Together for Closet Sale

Grailed and Future are partnering again for another closet sale, with proceeds going to the rapper’s FreeWishes Foundation that encourages and empowers youths and seniors through programs and events. The men’s fashion marketplace first partnered with the rapper at ComplexCon in 2018, and the follow-up, which will officially launch on Aug. 9, includes pieces from Gucci, Saint Laurent, Off-White, Burberry and Fear of God among others. It also includes custom basketball, hockey and football jerseys, and a concert-worn jacket from the Summer Sixteen Tour with Drake that reads “Them Boys Up To Something” across the sleeves and back in reference to “Jumpman,” their platinum-selling song from the “What a Time to Be Alive” mixtape. The 50-plus pieces available in the sale have a potential value of $ 23,000. “Whether it be low-end or high-end, we mix it in and blend it well,” said Future. “Because it’s not about what you wear or what you spend, it’s the person who’s wearing it. It’s how you put it together.” Grailed recently had a closet sale with actor Adam Pally for Father’s Day, and operated a showroom in Paris for fashion week in June. Grailed cofounder Arun Gupta said in June that the company has plans for more

Billy Reid on a Growth Spurt as New Investors Come on Board

NEW YORK — It’s a new day at Billy Reid.
The Alabama-based designer recently sold a minority stake in his business and with that financial cushion is working with a new team to grow the brand to what he believes can be its full potential.
In addition to Joel Anderson, an Alabama businessman who has been a partner for close to a decade, the Kemmons Wilson Companies, a Memphis-based investment firm operated by the descendants of the founder of the Holiday Inn chain, recently invested as well. Kemmons Wilson also holds stakes in the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team, the Wiseacre Brewing Co., Central BBQ, Active Implants and businesses in the hospitality and insurance fields. It purchased an undisclosed percentage of the Billy Reid brand last year.
The latest company to provide funding is The Balvenie, Scotland’s premier single malt Scotch whisky. The deal, which is for one year but may be extended, will find Balvenie spirits being featured at Billy Reid’s 12 retail stores. It will sponsor his 11th annual Shindig festival in Alabama in August and host a series of in-store events in several stores.
Like many independent designer labels, Reid has struggled to find the cash to sustain and expand his business. Reid

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Visited a Castle Today and the Photos Are a Fairy Tale Come True!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said a big “prynhawn da” (good afternoon in Welsh!) to Wales on Thursday, where cheering crowds welcomed them to the capital city of Cardiff.

The newly engaged couple stepped out at Cardiff Castle, a 2,000-year-old historic site that features Rapunzel-worthy towers and opulent interiors. The visit marked the latest milestone in the ongoing introduction of Meghan to the British public in the countdown to the royal wedding on May 19. Meghan honored the locale by pairing her black Stella McCartney coat with pants by Welsh brand Hiut Denim.

The couple was all smiles as they held hands while they greeted the crowds gathered outside the castle.

Harry, 33, and the L.A.-raised Meghan, 36, were greeted by well-wishers before being given a taste of modern Welsh life and traditional culture. Among those pressed against the barrier — and displaying her American flag — was Julie Hoefer, 31, from Dundas, Va.

“We don’t have a royal family in America, and the whole idea is amazing,” she said. “And now we have one who joined the family — finally. It is super exciting.”

She hopes the flag will catch the couple’s eye so that they say hello. “That’s the goal,” says Hoefer, who teaches in Kuwait and is in the U.K. on vacation. Next to them was Cynthia Osborne, a retired nurse from Cardiff. She wrapped a Welsh flag around her red Stetson-style hat and held a bunch of daffodils, the national flower of Wales.

“Meghan looks lovely, a breath of fresh air,” said Osborne. “She sparkles — and I’d like to see the ring to see if it sparkles.”

The castle gates were thrown open to the public at 9 a.m., enabling as many as people as possible to join the crowds. Meghan and Harry’s last outing was in Brixton on January 9, and they are expected to make several more before their Windsor Castle wedding.

Earlier, Cardiff’s city council leader Huw Thomas said they were delighted to “extend a warm Welsh welcome” to the couple, adding, “Their visit will aim to showcase some of the rich heritage and culture that we are very proud of here in Cardiff.”

After the excitement of the crowds, the couple watched performances from musicians and poets, met some famous local athletes and learn about the bodies that promote the Welsh language and cultural identity.

Their second outing in the capital was scheduled at Star Hub, a community and leisure center in the eastern suburb of Tremorfa where they were set to hear how the center helps young people excel through sports. It is a key area of Harry’s public work and the charity StreetGames, which the prince has regularly worked with, will show off some of their local programs.

The Sun is 400 times bigger than the Moon, but is 400 times further away from Earth, allowing for the illusion that they are the same size in the sky. In the Year 400 AD, the Great Palace of Constantinople was burned to the ground. The Four Hundred was a short-lived oligarchy in Ancient Athens, and a snobby social group in 19th Century New York.

What we’re trying to say is that the IGN UK Podcast turning 400 episodes old is a much bigger and more important deal than any of these other things. Which is precisely why we’re holding a big London live show to celebrate. You ever see a live show for the Great Palace of Constantinople? Suck it, Byzantium.

Strangers Come Together to Help Man With Down Syndrome Rebuild His Movie Collection After Fire

When a raging wildfire destroyed Mark Orsillo’s home and prized movie collection, strangers from around the country rallied together on Facebook to make sure that the 34-year-old man with Down Syndrome wouldn’t have to wait to begin rebuilding.

Orsillo and his parents only had about 20 minutes to evacuate their Oroville, California home as the fire approached on Saturday night. Danielle Devine, Orsillo’s sister, rushed to help her brother gather his belongings. Devine was able to fill two bags, but she knew she needed to rescue a portion of Orsillo’s collection of 300 movies. With time running out and no room to spare, she was only able to save about 20 DVDs. Her parents, Pastors Steve and Vicki Orsillo, saved what they were able to throw into their car.

When the family returned, they saw that the house they had lived in for 27 years—a house that Steve Orsillo built—was completely incinerated, and nothing was salvageable. “Mark’s apartment is attached to my parents’ house and both were just completely gone, just totally gone. That was our childhood home,” Devine tells PEOPLE. Her brother, meanwhile, was still reeling from the loss of his collection.

“DVDs for Mark are everything,” Devine says. “He watches them, talks about them, collects them and organizes them, they’re his hobby.”

On Monday, in an effort to help ease some of Orsillo’s pain, Devine posted to Facebook asking people to donate any unwanted DVDs to her brother. “He is an OCD movie collector and lost hundreds of movies,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “This is very hard for him.”

It didn’t take long for the movies to come rollin’ in.

Within hours, strangers from around the country left comments announcing the DVDs they were sending Orsillo’s way. They included movies and TV shows like Spider-Man, Kindergarten Cop, Harry Potter, and Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. “The response has been incredibly surprising,” Devine says.

As of Friday, Devine says her brother’s new collection has now reached close to 400 DVDs, and she thinks it may top a thousand in the coming weeks.

The family is doing well after the fire, Devine says, and Steve Orsillo plans to rebuild the house on the property. A donation page has been set up the assist the family and has already surpassed $ 12,000. And while it is wonderful her brother is getting attention, Devine wants to remind others that there were many families who lost their homes during the fire, and they need help, too. Today, the fire is 95-percent contained.

On Friday, Devine posted a heartwarming video of Orsillo seeing his new collection for the first time:

Devine, who played basketball at Arizona State, says her brother was always her biggest fan when she was on the court. “It’s really cool that I can return the favor now, because I am his biggest fan.”

“Mark is just the most loving person you’ll ever meet,” Devine continues. “He doesn’t have any bad days, he forgives everyone very easily and never gets offended. It’s almost like the love is being returned to him a million times over, and he deserves it more than anybody.”

“Yes I do!” Mark excitedly yells in the background.

Devine laughs. “Yes, you do,” she says.

Milo Ventimiglia Talks Jack’s Death on This Is Us: ‘When the Answers Come, You’ll Be Satisfied’

This Is Us audiences don’t have all the answers — but when they do, Milo Ventimiglia believes they’ll be “satisfied.”

Since the heartbreaking season one finale aired in March, fans have been theorizing about the way in which Ventimiglia’s beloved character, Jack Pearson, passed away.

“The number one comment I get is, ‘tell me how you died,’ which stung a little bit when I would first get that question,” Ventimiglia, 39, told PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly Editorial Director Jess Cagle for the latest episode of The Jess Cagle Interview.

RELATED VIDEO: Milo Ventimiglia & Mandy Moore Talk the ‘This Is Us’ Finale: ‘There Was a Lot of Tension on Set’

The day after the finale was televised, Ventimiglia recalled a viewer asking about father of three Jack’s on-screen death, which shook the actor emotionally.

“I remember the first time it happened was the day after the finale and I was taking a meeting and I was walking across the studio lot and a guy said to me, ‘Hey man, great show. … I was a little bummed, though. Last night, we couldn’t see how you died,’ ” Ventimiglia remembered the man telling him.

At that moment, Ventimiglia “stopped and I walked over and I put my hand out and I said, ‘I’m Milo.’ He said, ‘Hey, I’m Jim.’ I said, ‘Jim, I want you to think about what you just said. You’re upset you didn’t see a man die. I’m that man. Think about that.’ ”

Watch The Jess Cagle Interview: Milo Ventimiglia, available now, on the new People/Entertainment Weekly Network (PEN). Go to, or download  the PEN app on your favorite mobile or connected  TV device.

While Ventimiglia understands that loyal fans want the mystery behind Jack’s death to be revealed sooner than later, he vows waiting for the answer to the burning question will be worth it.

“I get that it’s fresh because TV audiences are savvy. Especially in the world that we live in today — with social media and digital and internet — everybody wants all the information. They want it now,” he explained

“I feel like this show is getting back to that appointment television where you’re going to clock in once a week, you’re going to pay attention, and then guess what? You’re going to wait one more week, just seven days. So that information, that want to, that desire to say, ‘I want to know how Jack died,’ well, you’re just going to have to wait and be patient,” he said, and added, “Because when the answers come, you’ll be satisfied.”

This Is Us returns for season 2 this fall on NBC.

This Couple’s Splash Mountain Proposal Is A Disney Fantasy Come True

Nothing quite says true love like a thrilling plunge down a waterfall ― at least for Eugene Williams and his new fiancé, Chris.

Williams popped the question during the couple’s Monday visit to Disneyland, and his proposal was not for the faint at heart. While many couples opt to use Sleeping Beauty Castle or other Disney landmarks as a backdrop for the big moment, Williams asked Chris to marry him with a handmade sign on Splash Mountain’s climactic, 50-foot drop, and made clever use of the attraction’s on-ride camera to capture the moment for posterity with a souvenir photo.

Williams told HuffPost that he “always knew” that he wanted to propose to Chris at Disneyland, as the California-based couple visit the Anaheim theme park at least once a month. He said he chose Splash Mountain specifically after seeing a viral photo of a 16-year-old Disneyland visitor, who came out as gay to her parents in a similar fashion.

Despite Williams’s best effort, there were a few unexpected twists and turns along the way, as one would expect of a thrill ride proposal. “I wanted to get to the park before it opened, but Chris and I overslept and ran into traffic on the way. I was very angsty and nervous the whole time leading to him seeing the photo,” he explained. “I was worried my plan wouldn’t work and the park would be too crowded to get our own log ― after all, it was a hot day.”

Fortunately, a polite request to a Disney cast member ensured that Williams could pull off his plan without a hitch after all. “I was nervous the whole time on the ride, but just kept giving him hugs and kisses on the ride,” he said. “I told my boyfriend that we should pretend to be shocked for the photo. When the ride was over we walked to see our photo and he said he immediately knew when he saw the sign in the photo what it was and he cried!”

Williams uploaded the photo to Reddit Tuesday, where it had racked up over 1,200 comments as of Wednesday afternoon. “We are big Disney park fans, and now every time we go we’ll be reminded of that one time I proposed and he said yes,” he told HuffPost. “My fiancé means a lot to me and seeing the joy on his face when he saw the photo was priceless.”

Ellen Makes ’13 Reasons Why’ Star’s Dream Come True For 21st Birthday

Ellen DeGeneres is in the business of making dreams come true (she brought Oprah Winfrey and Laura Dern together last week, C’MON), so we really shouldn’t be too surprised that she had her own “You get a car” moment with the stars of “13 Reasons Why.”

On Monday’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnette stopped by to talk about their new Netflix series, which has attracted a bit of controversy as of late, and somehow one of them ended up walking away with VIP tickets to a Lady Gaga concert.

Let’s rewind here. Langford, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday, is a ride or die Gaga fan, and has even credited the pop star for inspiring her acting career. The actress explained that she knew the show was officially a hit when Gaga herself tweeted about her on social media.

“There was definitely a really big moment for me like a week ago,” Langford said. “I don’t have Twitter, but Lady Gaga tweeted at me, like reposted an interview where I was fangirling and wrote, ‘Katherine,’ with a love heart. And I kind of freaked out a little bit.”

That’s why DeGeneres decided to treat Langford to an upcoming Gaga concert, including a meet and greet with the singer. The “13 Reasons Why” star was immediately brought to tears, grabbing Minnette when DeGeneres broke the news.

“Because you love Lady Gaga, I called her,” the host announced. “You’re going to go see her and go backstage and meet her.”

Sorry, Nicki Minaj. Ellen is still the “DeGeneres queen” after all.

Someone Tried To Come For Kim Kardashian, But John Legend Shut It Down

Friends who go to Waffle House together defend each other.

At this point, nasty things written on the internet probably slide off Kim Kardashian like water off a duck’s back ― but as for John Legend, well, that’s a different story.

The “Love Me Now” singer was having absolutely none of it on Wednesday night when someone on Twitter decided to come for Kardashian after the reality star divulged that she wanted more kids with husband Kanye West.

Responding to a tweet about the news, the Twitter user wrote, “Sometimes it seems the Chinese might have been on to something.”

The commenter is likely referencing China’s One Child Policy, a governmental mandate that restricted citizens from having more than one child through a system of fines and forced abortions. Intended to curb population growth, the policy was eventually phased out in 2015. Now, married Chinese couples are allowed to have two children per household.

While the Kardashians may have developed a sense of humor about themselves, there are certainly plenty of other ways to make fun of them.

Enter Legend, Kardashian’s knight in shining Twitter armor, who swooped in and responded to the hater with a swift and earnest takedown.

“That was pretty awful,” he wrote. “Shame on you.”

Kim Kardashian doesn’t need any help defending herself (look no further than the scorched Twitter accounts of Chloe Grace Moretz and Bette Midler), but it sure is nice to see friends helping friends.

Round of applause all around, guys.

This Couple’s Disney World Proposal Is A Fairy Tale Come True

When Gregory Anderson decided to propose to his longtime boyfriend, Craig Moss, he knew he wanted the moment to be, in a word, enchanting. With that in mind, he said there was only one location that made absolutely perfect sense: Walt Disney World.

When Anderson, 28, began dating Moss, 26, he was thrilled to find out that his new boyfriend was just as “Disney obsessed” as him. The guys visited Walt Disney World for the first time as a couple in 2016 and had an “amazing” time, which inspired Anderson to brainstorm ways to pop the question when they returned to the Florida theme park last month.

Anderson’s dream came true, and in a scene that could easily have been lifted from a Disney classic, he dropped to one knee before Moss in front of Cinderella Castle during the couple’s Jan. 31 visit to the Magic Kingdom. With the help of a Disney cast member, Anderson live-streamed the proposal on Facebook so that friends and family could watch the moment back home. (Watch that video of the proposal above.)

“Trying to decide where in Disney World I wanted to do it was difficult because I didn’t want to be obvious and I kept changing my mind,” Anderson told The Huffington Post. “His mum had known for ages, too, and she kept messaging throughout the holiday asking when I was going to do it ― so I had to lie to Craig about who I was on the phone to. It was all magically stressful!”

Disney-themed proposals, of course, are nothing new. Still, it’s particularly heartwarming to see a same-sex couple reaffirm their love with the Magic Kingdom as their backdrop. With that in mind, Anderson hopes his proposal video, which currently has over 7,000 views after being posted on Gay Star News, Instinct Magazine and other media outlets, and photos inspire other LGBTQ people to pursue their own “happily ever after.”

“I used to believe that every relationship had arguments and fights, that if you had a passion for something you should tone it down in order to be accepted by your LGBTQ peers,” he said. “I was so unhappy trying to fit into the gay scene, that it took me a while to discover a whole new world of self-appreciation. If you’re a Disney geek, embrace it! Someday you’ll find someone just like you who you’ll never fight or argue with and don’t ever settle for less!”

The couple are planning a 2018 wedding. Naturally, the ceremony will include a few nods to Disney. “I have it in my head that it’ll be set up just like the ballroom scene in ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ but that’ll probably be a little over budget,” Anderson quipped.

Congrats, gentlemen!

Dad’s Special Lunch Bag Drawings Help ‘Shy’ Son Come Out Of His Shell

Unless your parent is a gourmet chef or bento box master, school lunch is usually nothing to write home about.

For artist and father Dominick Cabalo, however, his son Nicholas’s lunches are a canvas for creativity.

Cabalo, who lives in Southern California, makes elaborate illustrations on each of 12-year-old Nicholas’s paper lunch bags, usually depicting popular animated characters and colorful superheroes.

Cabalo began drawing on the bags about three years ago to help Nicholas make new friends in elementary school.

“I noticed he was a bit shy when it came to talking to others,” he told The Huffington Post. “So by creating a piece of artwork to ‘break the ice,’ kids would come up to him and start talking and hopefully a conversation, or better yet, a new friendship, would start.”

Though Nicholas is in middle school now, he still asks his dad to draw on the lunch bags, and will make requests for characters or drawings that he’d like to see on the next bag.

Some of the illustrations have timely significance, such as an entire month of creepy characters to celebrate Halloween in October or this beautiful Princess Leia portrait Cabalo created in memory of Carrie Fisher.

Cabalo has drawn about 400 lunch bags in the past 3 years. He explained on Imgur this week this week that the bags have really helped his son become more confident at school.

”He’s broken out of his shell because of this, and I like to think that I had a hand in helping him do this with these bags,” he wrote.

Nicholas keeps most of the bags (at least those that make it home from lunch unsoiled). “Some come back in better condition than others,” Cabalo wrote on Imgur. “We may lose one to the occasional soggy sandwich or leaky drink, but that’s to be expected.”

As for the bags that make it home intact, Cabalo posts their photos to Instagram. His favorites, he tells HuffPost, are the more time-consuming series of bags that can be joined up to create a larger image, such as the “Finding Nemo” triptych below.

What Happens When a Bride Doesn’t Come Back from Bridal Entitlement?

You know what’s crazy? My dad got me thinking about this topic. I know, right? Every so often my father and I have a few glasses of wine and start chatting about why people are the way that they are, and what makes them tick. And considering my background, these conversations usually lead to talk of entitled and bitchy brides. And we all know that when it comes to brides, some have an affinity to the dark side, and take on multiple personalties during wedding planning, something I fondly deemed as Bridaldemia, an affliction in which a “normal”, sweet bride turns into a crazy, entitled bitch. Usually, she comes out of the haze after her wedding day, but what happens when a bride doesn’t come back from bridal entitlement? What happens if she can’t shake that alternate personality after she says “I do”? By our third glass of Cabernet, my dad told a story about a women he worked with many years ago who never “recovered” from of her entitled, bridal ways.

What’s interesting to me is that this lovely woman, turned into a nasty bitch bride before it was considered “acceptable” behavior, like it is now. Seriously, bridey, you’ve heard me whine a gazillion times about how I feel like our society applauds and encourages, and even celebrates bad bridal, ‘zilla behavior, and how it makes me want to pull my hair out. But, thirty-five years ago? Not so much. More often than not, a bride’s mother would plan her wedding with little buy in from the bride. So, hearing that this sort of behavior started decades ago, was definitely shocking to me! But, what’s even more worrisome is that this chick never went back to who she was before she got the rock. Then it hit me! I 100% know her type. I have worked with at least a dozen women over the years who were completely different people when they walked down the aisle as opposed to when they hired me, and never quite shook the entitlement after their nuptials.

The problem? These brides got used to the entitlement and they liked it. They liked it so much that they decided not to go back to the people they were before. And, when you think about it, why the fuck would they? We all fight for position, and when you’re a bride, your position immediately moves up. As a bride, you’re treated with kid gloves, and for the most part, you get whatever you want because you use your new position and demand it. And, what’s worse?People give it to you. So, why would a bride want to go back to her previous position as a plain, average woman when she gets so much more by being entitled? Right? In a fucked up way, who could blame her?

But, here’s the thing. If the wedding/hospitality industry stopped bending over for these demanding bitchy brides who are simply using their new position to be miserable and make everybody else miserable, then the problem or the entitlement would go away; the problem would cease to exist. But, until we as a whole (industry) stop being so fucking afraid to say “no” and accept entitled piss-poor behavior, then we will stay broken, and brides will continue to stay entitled. And, some won’t come back from it because they were taught that the more noise you make, and the more misbehaved your are, the more you get.

It’s painfully clear that things have to change for us to get our brides back from bridal entitlement. As an industry, we have to stop enabling and celebrating bad behavior. We have to take care our brides without letting them trample and take advantage of our good intentions. In a sense, we have to “raise” them to be good brides so that they don’t become entitled, and then we won’t have to worry about getting them back after the wedding. Essentially, we have to eliminate the problem before it starts. But, I can’t do it alone. Brides and vendors alike have to make a conscious effort to stop the bridal entitlement before it starts! Who’s with me?! Good! Stay Bitchless!

Oddly Normal: One Family's Struggle to Help Their Teenage Son Come to Terms with His Sexuality

Three years ago, John Schwartz, a national correspondent for The New York Times, got the call that every parent hopes never to receive: His thirteen-year-old son, Joe, was in the hospital following a suicide attempt. Mustering the courage to come out to his classmates, Joe had delivered a tirade about homophobic and sexist attitudes that was greeted with unease and confusion by his fellow students. Hours later, he took an overdose of pills. After a couple of weeks in the hospital and in the locked ward of a psychiatric treatment center, Joe returned to his family. As he recovered, his parents were dismayed by his school?s inability to address ? or reluctance to deal with ? Joe?s needs. Determined to help their son feel more comfortable in his own skin, Schwartz and his wife, Jeanne, launched their own search for services and groups that could help Joe know he wasn?t alone. In Oddly Normal, Schwartz writes of his family?s struggles within a culture that is changing fast – but not fast enough. Interweaving his narrative with contextual chapters on psychology, law, and common questions, Schwartz shares crucial lessons about helping gay kids learn how to cope in a potentially hostile world. From buying rhinestone-studded toddler shoes to creating a ?Joseph manual? for Joe?s teachers; from finding a hairdresser who stocks purple dye to fighting erroneous personality disorder diagnoses, Oddly Normal offers a deeply personal look into one boy?s growing up. Joe, far happier today than he was three years ago, collaborated on this work.

Elizabeth Livingston’s Paintings Come Out of Darkness With Solo Show ‘Night Fell’ in LES

Every summer, on a town in the very northwestern corner of Connecticut — a community of roughly 1,700 people, a farmer’s market and some acclaimed Berkshire hiking trails — a rough-hewn group of artists descend.

During the six-week course, instructors of Yale’s Art and Music School in Norfolk polish their charges into refined visionaries — the next Chuck Close or Kehinde Wiley. In 1998, Elizabeth Livingston, at the time a Yale undergraduate, arrived ready for the rigor — and found herself working at night, under a pale streetlamp, painting the dark, isolated clapboard houses surrounding the town.

“I would look at the houses in the dark and wonder how can something be so beautiful and precious and detached and terrifying at the same time, and moreover, how would I reconcile these aspects in my painting?” Livingston said recently in her DUMBO studio. “A professor who, at first, called my work garbage came around and said ‘I think you’re on to something, here’.”

For the next 15 years, Livingston worked at resolving the contrasts in her photorealistic paintings — mostly portraits of her friends, sister and self in detached or solitary moments — and showed at galleries all over New England. This month, however, she exhibits the isolation and solitude — the anxiety and the allure — of modern life’s continuum at the Lodge Gallery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Entitled Night Fell, after one of her pieces, it is the artist’s first solo New York show.

“Liz takes great pleasure in peeling back veneers of suburban order to capture intimate moments,” said Jason Patrick Voegele, one of the founders of the Lodge Gallery and the instigator of the show. “Her most recent body of work evokes all the same cinematic emphasis on visual scrutiny and moments of false security — much like a Hitchcock or Vermeer.”

“There is a shared suspense in these voyeuristic moments, a sense of the quiet before the storm or the last rays of light before night arrives.”

As one of her influences, Edward Hopper, Livingston has been called a realist, but her works manifest the ways in which memory infuses her surroundings: mostly the material memorial of suburban Connecticut, just outside New York City. Hopper told the Smithsonian Institution in 1959 that his “aim in painting has always been the most exact transcription possible of my most intimate impressions of nature.” So is Livingston’s.

Raised “solidly middle class” in New Canaan, Connecticut — a city with one of the highest GDPs in the country — Livingston witnessed the “whole Stepford Wives thing” or “how something could appear so charming and so perfect, yet underneath have such a darkness and a vulnerability.” Livingston deeply felt the loneliness, guardedness and illusion of community in her youth and at Yale began to paint figures that expressed it.

Of two key pieces at the Lodge Gallery, Wedding Day, in which she is portrayed sleeping nestled under plush bedding, and Before I Could Answer, a six-foot by seven-foot self-portrait of herself in a turquoise pool, Livingston said “we are most exposed when we feel the most protected.” She has placed her viewers as voyeurs: in one instance watching the intimate ambiguity before a life milestone and in the other, a contemplative moment preceding another significant decision.

Livingston, who is generally introspective and reserved, said only of the latter: “It represents being out on a limb.

“Pools are so brilliantly lit at night that everything around them disappears into black. It lends to that precarious feeling.”

That general reluctance toward averment has, perhaps, kept Livingston away from the necessary self-promotion required for the coveted New York scene since she earned an MFA in painting at Boston University. But her pursuit of a regular life outside painting – one that many artists eschew — had also previously kept her from straying too far from the galleries in Boston and New Haven and producing another significant body of work.

Not long after settling in Brooklyn and giving birth to her son, however, Livingston felt a twinge in her right hand that required a stroke of a paintbrush. Although she made two self-portraits during her pregnancy — Waiting, which shows a pregnant Livingston turning out a lamp, and the discordant Hurricane, a meditation on Hurricane Sandy — she temporarily abandoned the figure painting for her reclusive houses.

After meeting Voegele at several art fairs and turning down his requests for work, Livingston presented him with these portraits and Night Fell, a painting of a quaint two floor, porch-lit Connecticut home that is both stable and vulnerable, and surrounded by the lush detail of the encroaching rural landscape.

“I had started seeing the house as a vessel for the family, rather than an isolated figure. But I always seem to go to the opposite side of the ways in which most people think — how nothing treasured is going to last forever,” Livingston said. “”A small country home at dusk with the porch light on reads both as a safe house and as defenseless outpost against the dark woods surrounding it.”

That Livingston paints the ambiguity about life most people generally gloss over or cast aside could possibly constitute her appeal in a world that grows more and more uncertain. Or as Voegele suggests, “Her scene juxtapositions are rendered impeccably, and our patrons really relate to her experience.”

Either way, whether building or person, country or city, Livingston doesn’t envision ever letting go of the artist’s sensibility instilled in her. “I somehow always return to this exploration of the idea that the more ‘safe’ and protected our lives, the more vulnerable we actually are.”

Giant Penis Sprays Confetti To Promote Safe Sex … Come Again?

When a man in a giant penis costume ejaculates confetti on people, you pay attention.

But are you thinking about practicing safe sex?

That’s the dilemma facing a wacky PSA in Norway to combat the increase in STDs there. “Penis can surprise you,” says the tagline in Norwegian.

The PSA was produced by the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU).

A spokesperson for the Involve! agency behind the spot told the Mirror the commercial is intended to highlight the fun and naughtiness of sex, though admittedly many over 30 “thought the campaign was pointless and some went so far as to brand it banal and idiotic.”

Silly as it is, the video aims its use-a-condom message at 16- to 25-year-olds, the Telegraph reported. “This is a group that is not swayed by lecturing, facts or scaremongering, RFSU’s Christina Placht said.

The guy wearing the getup, 19-year-old student Philip van Eck, reportedly told a Norwegian outlet that he’s happy to do his part: “I thought it was hilarious. If I can help others, just by being a dick, there is nothing better.”

This Pet Duck Is Beyond Psyched To See His Human Bestie Come Home From School

Friendship knows no species — just ask these two BFFs.

Jonny and Nibbles are the best of friends. Nibbles is an 11-month-old duck, and Jonny is a 10-year-old human. BuzzFeed recently spoke with Jonny’s mother, Jamie Toschi, who posted a video of her son’s feathered friend eagerly awaiting the arrival of his BFF. In the video, Nibbles sits shotgun in the car while he and Toschi wait for Jonny to get off the school bus. And Nibbles gets totally turnt, quacking up a storm, when he sees his bestie. “I knew he was going to start quaking when he saw Jonny get off the bus,” Toschi told the site.

Nibbles is a Rouen drake who has had a special bond with Jonny since his birth, Toschi wrote on YouTube. Jonny was best friends with Daisy, Nibble’s mom, who died a month after she laid 10 eggs. When the baby chicks hatched, Jonny was the first person Nibbles saw. “Jonny was devastated when Daisy died and he held on to Nibbles and never let go,” Toschi wrote.

This special moment blossomed into a wonderful friendship. Toschi chronicles the growing bond between the boy and his duck on a Facebook page, “The Adventures of Jonny and Nibbles.” There, she describes Nibbles as Jonny’s BFF (BIRD FRIEND FOREVER). The photos show the two friends playing outside, riding in the car, and just chilling and watching TV together at home. You know, best friend stuff.

Nibbles has helped Jonny to come out of his shell.” Toschi told BuzzFeed. ““This duck has definitely made an impact on his life.”

Harvard Class Day Speaker: We All Need To Come Out

Reina Gattuso, Harvard College’s Class Day Orator, implored graduates at the Ivy League school during a graduation ceremony Wednesday to “come out” about things they fear may hold them back.

“It is hard to be out about the things that have held us back when everyone around us is soaring,” said Gattuso, a member of Harvard’s Class of 2015.

Gattuso told students to come out about what may make them feel vulnerable, which could be that they feel like they aren’t the “correct” gender or race, or about their own self doubts.

“If we are going to use the power we feel every time we tell someone where we go to school to make the world a better place, we need to come out,” Gattuso declared.

Gattuso said during her Class Day speech that she came out as bisexual to her family on the same day President Barack Obama came out in support of same-sex marriage rights in 2012. After that, her father supported her and she began writing a biweekly column in the Harvard Crimson student newspaper about sexuality.

“What will you come out about?” she asked. It might be coming out to ask for help when they hit a roadblock on a project or about things that make you uncomfortable at work, she explained.

“I hope we have the courage to do it,” she told her classmates, because when they do, “We validate the dignity of everyone.”

“Come out with your entire weird, wonderful being,” Gattuso continued. “Come out for that nerdy kid whose life you are about change.”

Ethan Loewi, another 2015 Class Day speaker, added a similar sentiment in his remarks, telling his fellow graduates it’s a good thing if they “struggle with tough existential questions.”

“Don’t repress your doubt, confront it,” Loewi said.

Watch their speeches in the video above, which starts at 52:00.

This Owl Ring Bearer Is A ‘Harry Potter’ Fan’s Dream Come True

This dashing ring bearer was a real hoot.

Groom Shaun Palmer surprised his bride Adele and all of their guests by having an owl named Bilbo carry the rings down the aisle at their July 2014 wedding in Roker, Sunderland, United Kingdom. But it wasn’t until the video was posted to YouTube on Friday that it began making the rounds online.

Internet folks have pointed out that this bird bears a striking resemblance to the late Hedwig of Harry Potter fame.

Credit: Kevin De-Roche

Palmer told The Huffington Post that he first came up with the idea to have an owl ring bearer after seeing it advertised at a wedding show a couple years before their nuptials and thought it would be an awesome way to surprise his bride. He said, though, that his best man Chris — who was tasked with intercepting Bilbo at the altar — wasn’t totally on-board with the plan at first.

“I actually booked the owl before I’d even spoke to Chris, my best man,” he said. “When I did phone him, I said, ‘How do you feel about an owl landing on your arm to bring our wedding rings down the aisle?’ He said something along the lines of ‘no chance’ to which I replied, ‘Well, it’s a bit late now — I’ve booked it!'”

Credit: Kevin De-Roche

The groom told HuffPost that the owl was both “brilliant” and “so well-behaved.”

After the ceremony, the handler stayed with Bilbo so the guests could meet him and take pictures.

“It gave a great bit of extra theater to the day,” Palmer said.

Watch the video above to see the bride’s sweet reaction.

President Obama Reading Mean Tweets Is Your American Dream Come True

Hail to the tweets.

President Barack Obama kicked off his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday by reading his very own mean tweets.

Kimmel’s announcement this week that the president would be stopping by the show was obviously huge news for the late night host, but the commander-in-chief’s decision to participate in this popular sketch took things to a whole new level. During the segment, Obama was confronted with all kinds of crazy criticisms, and the stakes seemed even higher than the waistband on his jeans.

It’s fitting that Obama now joins Katy Perry as a “Mean Tweets” alum because this appearance was straight up fireworks.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Her First Punishment of Many to Come

Her First Punishment of Many to Come

I didn’t know how to tell Graig that the woman he married was a kinky slut. How do you break something like that to your new husband? I suppose admitting it before marriage is the best way to go, but that’s not the way it happened here. After being together as a married couple for about a month, Graig finally caught on to the fact that my kind of porn was different from what other woman may enjoy. My husband is a computer tech. He knows everything about computers. One day as he was doing an update on my laptop he asks me, “Why is their spanking porn all on your computer?” I try to look away and say I had to look it up for work, but Graig grabs my cheeks, forcing me to look him in the eyes and asks me again. “Ok, Ok, maybe I like watching it.” I say as I look down. I never wanted Graig to know about this kinky side of me. I thought that he would be disgusted and think, who did I marry.

The looks that walk down fashion week‘s runways are all over the place, from beyond simple to whoa? what?. We started to wonder what our grandmothers would think of it all and through the magic of email and long-distance calls, we conferred.

“I love to look at the fashions but realize that they rarely apply to me. I like it all as a showcase of contemporary style,” Avery’s grandmother, Cherie, age 80, said. Mine (Dottie in south Florida) stated general feelings before we even got started, saying she liked solids, not prints, and dressed in Halston when she was younger.

Coach, Fall 2015

Sophia’s Grandma Sylvia, 82: “It’s pretty. It’s different. Would I wear it? No, not for me.”

Grandma Dottie, 83: “This would travel well. It’s not good in the hot weather, but we’re having lots of cold snaps in Florida this year.”

Proenza Schouler, Fall 2015

Grandma Cherie, 80: “This is the only one I like, and only if one is six feet tall. I like the proportions, but hate the shoes and stockings. Although, I think it’s actually quite wearable.”

Grandma Sylvia, 82: “It’s very sharp. I like the color and the long jacket. I do NOT like the stockings.”

Grandma Dottie, 83: “Only if you’re traveling to Russia.”

Monique Lhuillier, Fall 2015

Grandma Dottie, 83: “I had a dress like this in an ecru color that I bought in Paris many years ago. I like it, but it might be too warm for Florida.”

Grandma Sylvia, 82: “This is very much my type, and I would wear it. It’s for my age—you’ve got to go by age. There are young grandmothers out there too, you know.”

Marc Jacobs, Fall 2015

Grandma Sylvia, 82: “I don’t know about this one…it’s a fantasy dress. It’s very unique, I’ll put it that way.”

Matthew Williamson, Fall 2015

Grandma Dottie, 83: “If this is a jumpsuit it would be too much trouble to go to the restroom. If not, it wouldn’t be my first choice but it looks good on the model.”

Grandma Sylvia, 82: “It’s beautiful, very pretty. I like the colors. It’s nice stuff.”

Bill Murray Played The Mayor On ‘Parks & Rec,’ Making Amy Poehler’s Dreams Come True

In the stretch toward its final episode, “Parks and Recreation” is pulling out all the stops. On Tuesday night, that meant a little old guest appearance by Bill Murray. Yes, BILL MURRAY was on “Parks and Recreation.”

The actor appeared as Walter Gunderson, the deceased mayor of Pawnee — a character widely referenced throughout the show’s history but never before depicted. The mayor spoke to his residents from the grave in a little video message, and had an open casket at his funeral.

Getting Murray to play the mayor of Pawnee has been a dream of Amy Poehler and the “Parks and Rec” cast and crew for years. Back in 2011, Poehler mentioned her wish to cast him in an interview at PayleyFest and during an appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” She brought it up it again in an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Sundance in 2013.

“I want Bill Murray to play the mayor,” she said “And I just dream about it every night. I whisper it to a bird and then I open the window and the bird flies away.”

Show creator Mike Schur told Entertainment Weekly that when they did finally manage to snag the actor, he was the perfect addition on set.

“He was just the most delightful person,” he said. “Not only was he incredibly complimentary of the show, he went around to every one of the actors and told them how great they were and cited specific episodes and moments. He hung out on the set for three hours, watching us shoot the show.”

The man, the myth, the legend.

Fashion-Wise, Taylor Swift’s “Style” Video is SO Taylor. Come Watch!

When it comes to Taylor Swift‘s recent music videos, part of the reason they’ve been so amazing to watch, if you’re a fashion-lover, is how many different outfits she crams in. It’s like she’s playing dress-up or trying on fun costumes (I mean, have you seen “Shake It Off”?) Her video for “Style” has just been released and it’s gorgeous, but gone are the character outfits—this one’s all Taylor.

All of the clothing could be items plucked directly from Tay’s own closet: a filmy lace dress, basic button-up, and short romper (all in white). The only spot of color I counted was a dark navy or black polka dot top, but aside from that, there’s nothing bright. Swift’spirators will have an accessory choice to mull over too: toward the beginning of the video you see her playing with a small paper crane charm, identical looking to the one she and Harry Styles both wore and she’s immortalized in lyrics (read about it on Much).

Also, I don’t see a single pair of shoes! There are some cat-eye sunnies and rings, but no shoes to discuss!

Watch the video here.

What do you think? Like how Taylor it is or do you miss the production value of her videos like “Blank Space”?

Dolly Parton To Adopt Abandoned Dog Named For Her If Owners Don’t Come Forward

Country music legend Dolly Parton has offered to adopt a dog that was found abandoned at the Glastonbury Music Festival last week.

The white lurcher, described by the shelter caring for it as a “sweet-natured older lady,” was nicknamed Dolly after the singer, who drew rave reviews for her set during the festival’s final day.

“I had my manager call the Happy Landings animal shelter to make sure the dog is being treated and cared for properly,” Parton said in a statement quoted by the Guardian. “At this time, nobody has claimed the dog and the dog is in great hands at the shelter. I will take her home to America if nobody claims her within a reasonable amount of time.”

Dolly the dog was found with food and water inside a tent that was among 30 or 40 other abandoned tents. While the festival ended on June 29, the dog wasn’t discovered until workers cleaning up the area reached the tents on July 1.

“Loyal to the end she stayed in the tent, even though unzipped, waiting for her owner,” Happy Landings wrote on Facebook. “She was very thirsty and extremely stressed and it has taken her until today to properly relax and be able to sleep. How could anyone abandon this gentle soul?”

The shelter is treating the pooch for an ear infection and dermatitis.

But while Dolly is now guaranteed a home, many other animals are not. If you’re looking for a perfect animal companion, a shelter near you can help. In the United States, try Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet or the ASPCA.

The Beatles Come to America

The Beatles Come to America

When the Beatles touched down in New York on February 7, 1964 for their first visit to America, they brought with them a sound that hadn’t been heard before. By the time they returned to England two weeks later, major changes in music, fashion, the record industry, and the image of an entire generation had been set into motion. Coming less than three months after the assassination of President Kennedy, the Beatles’ visit helped rouse the country out of mourning. A breathless and condescending media concentrated on the band’s hairstyles and their adoring fans, but their enduring importance lay in their music, wit, and style, a disconnect that signaled the beginning of the generation gap. In this intriguing cultural history, Martin Goldsmith examines how and why the Beatles struck such a lasting chord.

‘Downton Abbey Christmas Special’ Review – Shirley MacLaine, Paul Giamatti Come Calling

It’s 1923 at ‘Downton Abbey‘, and Rose is to be ‘outed’, in the London 1920s fashion – the opportunity for Julian Fellowes to pick up his pen with a particularly jovial flourish, and put together all the usual suspects, together with some royalty, a conniving schemer and – most disturbingly of all – Americans.

The Americans come calling.. and cause ripples for the Downton regulars

That these New World interlopers came in the high-pedigree form of Shirley MacLaine and Paul Giamatti only added to the fun. As brother Harold, Giamatti especially added an understated but effective presence to proceedings, as a playboy not easily persuaded to give up his hedonistic ways.

A right royal ‘outing’ for Lady Rose, in the arms of the Prince of Wales

Fellowes has form in pitting the family narrative against both social history and real-life luminaries – Downton has already played host to legendary diva Dame Nellie Melba – and this 2-hour special saw him expand his canvas to include the pleasure-seeking Prince of Wales.

The Crawleys got involved in a strange escapade, helping him to avoid a scandal with his real-life ladyfriend Mrs Dudley-Ward, courtesy of a completely invented card game and Mr Bates’ ‘street’ skills, i.e. forgery and pocket-picking. This provided the double bonus of some neat in-jokes – ‘when that Bertie gets himself into trouble next time, it won’t be the Crawley’s fault, tee hee’ – and reminding us that Mr Bates was once an interesting fella, and could be again.

Less fun was Lady Mary’s interminable dilemma over which earnest-browed bore she should encourage, Mr Blake or Mr Gillingham. Guess what? In the end, neither. Well, there is Series 5 to think about, after all. Which something tells me will include some reference to Mr Blake’s sizeable holding in Ulster…

Romance a-brewing for Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes – FINALLY!

Back in Yorkshire, it was all a bit quiet by contrast. It was pretty obvious Branson had plans a-foot, which turned out to be eating at the pub, bumping into Miss Bunting and taking her on a tour of the house, which was pretty awkward BEFORE they bumped, inevitably, into a lurking Mr Barrow – a vindictive valet sorely underused in this series, Christmas special included.

Home turf still afforded the best laugh of the night, however, when Lord Merton paid a visit to Mrs Crawley. Not only did he tell her, with a straight face – “I’m on my way to dine with the Scroops” – WHO? – but then, out of the blue, Mrs Crawley went all continental on him – “I’m much more serieuse,” she told him, with an equally straight face. Obviously a match made in heaven. Dear me, Lord Fellowes must have had fun writing that bit.

‘Scandal’: Mellie Pleads With Olivia To Come Back And Run Fitz’s Campaign (VIDEO)

In an unexpected turn of events on the latest “Scandal,” it was Mellie who was desperate to get Olivia back on Team Fitz. She may not have liked it, but she knew that her husband was better when his mistress was in the picture.

“He needs you, Olivia,” she pleaded. “He is tired, and broken and it isn’t the job. It’s doing the job without you. He’s not alive when you’re not here. He can’t breathe when you’re not here. He doesn’t have the will to run, much less win, when you’re not here, because you … you’re everything to him, Liv.”

Buddy TV’s Kelly Schremph felt bad for Mellie during that scene, but TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich thought the speech did the trick — so it might prove worth it. He figures it’s just a matter of time before Olivia agrees to run Fitz’s reelection campaign.

But, as E! Online’s Jenna Mullins pointed out, there is one potential hurdle. The episode also suggested that Fitz was responsible for taking down the plan that killed Olivia’s mother.

“Scandal” airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
