New Garments Going on Display at ‘Diana: Her Fashion Story’ Exhibition

FASHION HISTORY: Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that manages Kensington Palace, has been working toward adding new, never-before-seen garments for the reopening of the popular “Diana:Her Fashion Story” exhibition, later this month.
The exhibition charts the sartorial history of Princess Diana and highlights important moments in her life through her clothing.
Some of the outfits going on display include the Armani chinos and white shirt she wore to visit the landmine fields in Angola with the International Red Cross in 1997 and a violet body-hugging gown created by Gianni Versace, a dear friend of Diana’s, for a fund-raising dinner at the Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
The pink David Sassoon dress Princess Diana wore en route to her honeymoon with Prince Charles will also be exhibited, alongside pieces by Catherine Walker, Caroline Charles and Victor Edelstein, a leading London couturier in the Eighties.
Princess Diana was also known for championing local designer names during State visits, as illustrated by a cobalt blue pleated gown by the London-based Japanese-born designer, Yuki, worn to a State Dinner with Emperor Hirohito in Tokyo.
The exhibition will reopen on April 26 at Kensington Palace and it’s predicted to attract large crowds as interest on the British Royals is peaking, with

William and Harry Award Young Heroes in Honor of Their Late Mom Princess Diana

Prince William and Prince Harry had a special task on Thursday – presenting young people from around the world with an award established in memory of their mother, Princess Diana.

Twenty young recipients traveled to St. James’s Palace to receive the Legacy Award set up by the Diana Award charity to recognize the “monumental impact” they have made on society.

Among the remarkable stories of social activism and selfless volunteering was that of Mercy Ngulube, 18, from Cardiff, Wales, “who has used her own personal painful experience of stigma and discrimination to drive her commitment and pursuit of equality for young people living with HIV,” the charity says. Mercy, who was born with HIV, has campaigned against the stigma of HIV and AIDS often anonymously by using “social media to counter and correct online misinformation about HIV and challenge negativity and ignorance.”

She is the current chairman of Children’s HIV Association Youth Committee that campaigns on behalf of young people living with HIV and met Harry in Durban at an international conference on HIV and AIDS.

From America, Jaylen Arnold, 16, was honored for his anti-bullying crusade and Faith Dickinson, 14, from Toronto, Canada, has an award for her Cuddles for Cancer blanket-making project.

One of the judges on the panel s Julia Samuel, Founder Patron of Child Bereavement UK and a friend Diana, who said she “was humbled by reading the extraordinary achievements of every young person who was nominated for this award.”

“The winners are truly inspirational — often coming from extremely difficult circumstances. It left me feeling profoundly hopeful for our future knowing these young people will be part of that future and our future leaders.”

Tessy Ojo, the Diana Award’s chief executive, added, “Today is about two things; celebrating young people for their selfless contribution to society, their courage and bravery, sometimes in the face of adversity and demonstrating to young people that we, as a collective, value them.”

In addition to meeting Diana’s sons at the palace, the winners will be able to access the Diana Award’s development program that helps enhance their skills in four key areas of leadership, community development, social entrepreneurship and technology for good.

The Diana Award runs programs from anti-bullying to encouraging mentoring which have received public support from William and Harry.

Kensington Palace Unveils Princess Diana Style Exhibition

LONDON — It’s been nearly 20 years since the death of Princess Diana, and Kensington Palace — the royal’s former home – is marking the anniversary with a show of her style — and how it evolved over the years.
“Diana: Her Fashion Story,” which opens to the public on Friday, showcases looks she wore during daytime public engagements as well as for evening occasions. It will be open for two years.
“Diana has become a fashion icon in the same way as Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn — timeless, elegant, and still so relevant,” said curator Eleri Lynn, during a walk-through on Wednesday.
“She championed British fashion designers and put many of them on the international stage. Everything she wore had a huge impact and was copied by the high street. She helped popularize the romantic look in the early Eighties, the fabulously glamorous ‘Dynasty’ look in the late Eighties, and the sleek silhouettes of the Nineties. Each of these looks reappears on the catwalk from time to time, and are inseparable from Diana. Perhaps her greatest influence, though, will be championing understated British tailoring in the Nineties,” she said.
Lynn described the show as the story of “a young woman who had to

Ode to a Royal Fashion Icon: 15 Princess Diana Outfits That You May Not Have Seen Before

It’s hard to believe that Monday, August 31, will mark 18 years since the tragic death of Princess Diana. And while the People’s Princess died at the young age of 36, she certainly left her mark on the world and of course, on style.

Diana is famous for having fun with fashion. In the ’80s is was all about bold colors—fuchsia! cerulean! amethyst!—prints, and the most decadent collection of diamond tiaras, befitting of a princess. Later on in the ’90s she went for a sleeker look in line with the times. With Gianni Versace as a close friend and go-to designer, she transformed into Di 2.0. Her look got ultra sophisticated with elegant suits in sherbet hues and body conscious tank dresses in stark white or midnight blue, accentuating her piercing blue. Here, we look back to one of the great fashion icons with vintage photos of our favorite looks, that inspire us still.
