Report: Lakers feel they got played in Kawhi Leonard pursuit

The Raptors reportedly felt Kawhi Leonard's advisor and uncle, Dennis Robertson, made unreasonable requests of them before Leonard signed with the Clippers. The Lakers, the other team that waited for and missed out on Leonard, also apparently has misgivings about the process. The implication: Leonard knew all along wasn't signing with the Lakers, waited a week into free agency so other top free agents would commit elsewhere then announced his decision just to sabotage the Lakers.

How the Lo Lifes Feel About Ralph Lauren Collaborating With Palace

The Lo Lifes feel robbed.
The Brooklyn crew that used to steal, wear and sell Ralph Lauren in the Eighties is frustrated that the iconic American brand is working on a collection with Palace instead of them.
According to Willie Esco, who founded the Lo Life brand in 2016, which sells apparel online inspired by Ralph Lauren’s most iconic pieces, someone from Palace’s team reached out to get a blessing from members of the group. But most of the Lo Lifes, who skew older, weren’t familiar with Palace when it announced earlier this month via billboards in Tokyo and Instagram posts that it would be collaborating with the brand they’ve collected, the designer they’ve worshiped and the clothes they’ve helped popularize in urban communities for more than 30 years.
“Look at what Gucci did with Dapper Dan. Ralph should have did [sic] something like that with the Lo Lifes,” said Esco, referring to Gucci-backed efforts to reopen Daniel Day’s Harlem store and atelier, which shut down in 1992. “I wasn’t shocked by the decision. It will generate great sales, but it feels like a money grab from both sides and dilutes what they are all about.”

Maria Menounos Shares Wedding Photo & Honors Her Parents in Emotional Post: ‘I Feel So Blessed’

Maria Menounos is feeling major gratitude toward her parents following her glamorous wedding in Akovos, Greece.

The TV personality, who remarried Keven Undergaro on Saturday after initially saying “I do” in an impromptu New Year’s Eve ceremony last year, paid tribute to her parents Constantine and Litsa on Instagram.

On Tuesday, Menounos, 40, posted a sentimental black-and-white snapshot with her dad at the wedding. In the picture, the father-daughter duo have their arms wrapped around one another as Menounos shows off her billowing Celia Kritharioti gown.

“Love my dad so much,” she captioned the post. “This was a dream for him. He was born and raised in Akovos. Though he’s the proudest American you will find, he is also equally proud of his roots.”

“Growing up we saved all the spare change we found on the nightclub floors we cleaned in Boston to save up and visit Greece,” Menounos continued. “It meant so much to him for us to be connected to our heritage, to know the language and the traditions. Both my parents wanted that. It took years but finally we visited in 1988 when I was 10. I loved it. We spent almost a month in Akovos and it always held a special place in my heart. Returning to get married there was my wildest dream come true. All of our friends and family helped make it truly the most special moment of all our lives.”

Menounos also revealed that her father had health problems right before the wedding: “My poor dad got so sick a week before the wedding and we almost lost him. Luckily my friends and family helped him get better all while keeping me in the dark. This is why I feel so blessed.”

With her wedding hashtag #mariaandkevensbigfatgreekwedding, she concluded, “To have my parents at my wedding I know wasn’t easy between dad’s diabetes and mom’s cancer. I know many who weren’t as lucky and I will never take that for granted.”

Menounos has shared all the details of her gorgeous nuptials on Instagram, which included a multi-layer cake, cheerful lemon centerpieces, yellow plants, yellow-hued drinks and pastries and almost 1,500 decorative lemons.

She also gave her fans peeks at her impressive arrival at the church — she rode in on a carriage surrounded by a swarm of people — and the celebration that followed the vows.

Before the wedding, she took a moment to reflect.

“I’ve been planning this for maybe a month but really been planning this for a long time in my heart because I always wanted to return to Greece and do our wedding here,” she said on Instagram. “Greece means so much to us and our village and our roots and I’m so beyond thankful to all of our friends who put this together.”

How Meghan Markle Will Make Harry Feel Like a True Prince on His Birthday

Meghan Markle knows how to take a celebration up a notch. And for Prince Harry’s 34th birthday on Saturday, the duchess, who has called herself a “pretty good cook and a firm believer in handwritten notes,” will no doubt pull out all the stops for her new husband’s big day.

Thanks to her former love of social media and her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig, Meghan has given us major insight into how she’ll plan a birthday fit for a prince!

She’ll write Harry a love note.
“If given the option between fingers to keyboard, or pen to paper, I will always choose the latter,” she wrote. “Because amongst the throwback things that I love (a ’62 porsche speedster à la Dylan McKay in 90210, a bevy of Vargas girls, a Busby Berkeley film, or cooking over a charcoal grill), what trumps all is my love of writing (and receiving) a handwritten note.”

She’ll give a thoughtful gift…
“It’s easy to grab another T-shirt for your man — but you’ll likely steal it for PJs anyway. Instead, give him something creative that he’ll actually enjoy.”

…like a new book
“There’s simply nothing like making that first fire in the fireplace (or hey, just lighting a candle) and cracking open a new novel where endless possibilities abound. Because whether it’s to escape, to inform, to inspire, or to just turn off the world while you sit by a pool, I love getting lost in a good book.”

She’ll be affectionate.
“Let’s discuss the simple pleasures in life: holding someone’s hand so seamlessly that you can’t decipher their fingers from your own, fresh baked bread smeared with briny French butter, a smile that says you are endlessly adored, the sizzle and smell of sautéing onions, and finding the perfect book,” she wrote.

She’ll plan a fun trip.
“I have the travel bug not a week goes by without me finding my derrière on a plane.”

She’ll wear something special.
“Perhaps it’s the girly girl in me. Maybe it’s the fact that if given the choice between punk and pretty, I will always vote for pretty. For women looking like ladies. For the opportunity to wow with class and grace and fairytale level ball gown beauty.”

She’ll take him to a yoga class.
“I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados.”

She’ll cook him a special birthday meal.
“Some days you have a bite of food that makes you go ‘woah.’ Your eyes widen, you look down at the plate, almost pushing things around with your fork to see what’s making it so special. You take another bite, smiling as you do so, almost laughing, because it’s just so damn good.”
Meghan Markle knows how to take a celebration up a notch!

She’ll plan an epic date night.
“There’s nothing like a jewel box sized restaurant to add to the intimacy and coziness of a night out — because, let’s be honest — some the best meals of our lives have less to do with the food specifically, and more to do with the overall experience; the space being high on the list.”

She’ll be romantic.
“ think it’s safe to say that we all fall in love a little bit every day. Be it with your partner, your crush, even a person in passing that energetically makes your heart go pitter pat. Whatever the case may be, when you meet someone that makes you beam, you must take note.”

Hereditary: How Director Ari Aster Made a Movie that Doesn’t Feel Safe

SPOILERS: The following article discusses scenes and key events from Hereditary. You have been warned…

My favourite horror films are those that flirt with the fantastic. Movies that maintain a weird ambiguity around the reality of their central events. They all eventually table a simple question: is something genuinely supernatural happening here or is a plausible, rational explanation just out of sight?

The Turn of the Screw is the classic example of this effect. It’s entirely possible to read the novella believing the ghosts are real, preying upon young Miles and Flora, and it’s equally viable to interpret them as the delusions of the young governess employed to look after them. The same incidents can be consolidated in different ways, producing two competing interpretations. While The Turn of the Screw never really resolves this effect, most horror movies do.

Detroit: Become Human Makes Your Choices Feel Organic

When I asked the team behind Detroit: Become Human how many endings the game has, they struggled to give me an answer. Adam Williams, one of the lead writers at Quantic Dream, said “that depends how you define an ending.” Writer/Director David Cage thought about it and said, “I don’t know, a lot.” They said there might be a number floating around somewhere in an email, but they didn’t know it off by heart. I asked David what makes Detroit different from a Telltale game, too, and mentioned how gamers had been burned by the ‘every choice matters’ sales pitch we keep getting from publishers. He told me the script was over 4,000 pages long, that there are hundreds of variants when it comes to the ending, and that the game was a nightmare to QA test because of all the permutations.

After ‘I Feel Pretty’ Disappoints, What Should Amy Schumer Do Next?

Amy Schumer is undeniably funny, so why have her two latest films underperformed? The comedian’s third starring vehicle “I Feel Pretty,” written and directed by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, launched to a soft $ 16 million last weekend. It’s not a disaster, but it does represent Schumer’s lowest opening for a film yet. “In terms of her […]

Adopted Woman Whose Family Thought She Was Dead Reunites with Siblings 60 Years Later: ‘I Feel Whole’

For decades, Sylvia Kewer’s family thought she was dead.

Kewer, who was adopted as a toddler, grew up in Emporia, Virginia, believing she was an only child. All of that changed in August when she learned she has four half-siblings.

“ was saying her whole life she didn’t know what she was. She kept saying, ‘What am I?’ ” Kewer’s daughter, Natalie Graves Tucker, tells PEOPLE.

“Here she is thinking she’s alone all these years and doesn’t know her story … She’s always been a loner and here she has four siblings with children and grandchildren!”

On Nov. 11, Kewer met her half-siblings (and dozens of other family members) at a sweet reunion in Abingdon. Tucker rented a home for the family where they had a cookout and shared old photographs.

“It was a culmination of pictures and conversations and emails that we’ve had with the family over the past few months. It was exciting,” Tucker says. “They just opened their arms with love and so it couldn’t have happened any better. I couldn’t have planned it any better.”

Kewer spent a day and half with her newfound siblings: Billy Ray, 63, Nancy Goode-O’Donnell, 69, Ralph Duff and Curtis Duff, 72.

Tucker says the reunion left her mother feeling loved, she recalls Kewer saying: “I feel whole, reborn, refreshed and stronger than ever.”

A Family Journey

The siblings’ reunion was months in the making, and it all began with a DNA test on Tucker and Kewer submitted tests and soon learned that their DNA matched that of several other people — including Ray’s son.

“When I told her that her brother wanted to FaceTime her, she was just like, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!’ ” Tucker tells PEOPLE. “It’s just so amazing for her. She’s like there’s no longer a question mark. ‘I know who I am and I know what I am.’ ”

Tucker, Ray and Kewer began communicating and, over the next few months, Tucker says she received Facebook messages from cousins, nieces, nephews and more, all eager to attend the cookout Tucker had planned for the family’s reunion.

As the family met and exchanged stories at the rental home from Crooked Cabin Properties, they began to piece together Kewer’s story.

Many of the siblings went their separate ways as children, one was raised by a grandmother, another by their father, and others were adopted. Kewer’s four half-siblings had long known about each other, and reunited at their mother’s funeral in the ’80s.

However, Kewer, born Dorothy Mae Goode, was the mystery.

“Billy found and everybody kept saying, ‘I guess Dorothy was dead,” Tucker tells PEOPLE. “My mom only remembers an orphanage and she remembers my grandparents coming to get her.”

A Fresh Start

Now that Kewer has found her family, she never plans to let them go. Tucker says the siblings exchanged phone numbers, noting that Kewer talks to her half-sister Nancy almost every day.

“There is talk about having another get together next year in the spring or the summer,” Tucker tells PEOPLE. “Everybody wants to get together next year.”

Sneak Peek of Family Portrait: Ben & Daniel’s Road to Adoption

She adds of her mother: “Now that she has everybody’s information, she definitely plans to connect with everybody.”

With the reunion, Tucker says a special bond was formed between Kewer and Nancy.

“Her and her sister just stuck together like glue when they were there,” Tucker tells PEOPLE.

Inside Naturi Naughton’s Mint-Green Nursery for Daughter Zuri: ‘I Wanted It to Feel Like Serenity’

Naturi Naughton‘s daughter Zuri is only 3 months old, but she’s already set up in (serene) style.

The Power star, 33, gave PEOPLE an exclusive glimpse inside her baby girl’s mint-green nursery, created in collaboration with interior designer Nicole Gibbons and Pottery Barn Kids.

“I was thinking of something that felt really peaceful, very feminine, but not overly drowned in pink. I wanted it to feel like serenity,” Naughton tells PEOPLE of her inspiration behind the space’s look. “My whole theme was getting away: You can fly, you can go wherever you want to go in life.”

She adds, “I just wanted to feel inspired every time she looked around, with the maps and the birds, the-world-is-your-oyster kind of vibe, and nothing is impossible.”

“The space is bright and airy with a soft, feminine color palette and includes subtle influences of her Caribbean heritage throughout,” says Gibbons. “The nursery is sweet yet sophisticated so that it can easily transition as baby Zuri grows.”

The color theme throughout the space was actually Naughton’s boyfriend Ben‘s brainchild. “My boyfriend chose the green, that mint green,” says the actress. “He chose that color and first I was like ‘Green? We can’t do green. That’s not girly.’ But I realized he was like, ‘Let’s do something unique and different.’ ”

Zuri’s nursery includes a number of sweet elements from Pottery Barn Kids, including the Blythe Spindle Crib ($ 699), Elephant Side Table ($ 349), Eva Floral Medallion Rug ($ 149 to $ 699), Elsie Cloud Dresser ($ 799) and Naughton’s favorite piece: the Modern Wingback Glider & Recliner Rocker ($ 1,119 to $ 2,199).

“ is amazing because I’m also breastfeeding,” says the new mom. “That is a chance to feel like me and my baby girl get a chance to connect, because she’s looking up at me, I’m looking down at her, I’m feeding her, I’m rocking, I put her to sleep in that chair. We love it.”

As far as the décor goes, one of the elements close to Naughton’s heart is the inspiring framed wall art above her daughter’s crib, flanked by a few feathered baubles.

“I love how the doves go across the wall with the sign that says ‘Oh the places you’ll go,’ “ shares the actress. “When I see those doves, every time that I walk in, I just feel like I want to fly away.”

Other sweet pieces featured in the adventure-encouraging nursery are Pottery Barn Kids’ Lamb Plush Collection ($ 19 to $ 49), Metallic Wool Storage bins ($ 59 to $ 79), Ombre Geo Lumbar Decorative Pillows ($ 24) and a wooden toy train ($ 39).

Zuri — who “only wakes up once at night” and whose name means “beautiful” in Swahili, according to Naughton — has experienced a variety of parenting styles between both her mom and dad.

“We’re different on typical man-woman stuff. He picks her up and plays with her, and I’m like, ‘Be careful!’ ” Naughton says. “I’m a lot more sensitive. I’m such a girl and I’m like, ‘Just don’t do anything because I don’t want anything to happen.’ I think we’re pretty good, though. We’ve found a balance.”

And her favorite part of motherhood so far? “Learning more about my daughter every day,” says the actress. “That’s one of the best parts: just learning and exploring her, and just enjoying the process of figuring out every stage.”

Kailyn Lowry & Ex Javi Marroquin Feud over ‘Infidelity’ Allegations: ‘I Feel Smothered By Your Insecurities’

Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin are finally tackling some of their biggest issues.

In an exclusive clip of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, the exes play a therapeutic game where large balls are tossed within the circles they stand in. The balls represent marital problems that couples often go through, some of which the two reality stars could not overcome.

“Insecurity,” Lowry says, tossing the ball into Marroquin’s circle. “I feel smothered by your insecurities. You make something out of nothing and then you never let it go. Ever.”

Marroquin immediately responds, “I came here hoping maybe there was a small chance we could figure it out and we could get back together.”

He then tosses a different ball, saying, “Infidelity. When you have to sleep with your phone under your pillow because you’re scared of what I’m going to see. I don’t agree with that.”

On MBCRS, Marroquin accused Lowry of cheating on him, but she said she had served him with divorce papers before his deployment when the alleged infidelity took place. The couple announced they were separating in 2016 after nearly three years of marriage

“This stems from your insecurity, what you fear is what you create,” Lowry tells Marroquin, referencing his accusations of cheating.

Lowry adds that money was also a factor in their separation, saying, “Every time there is a fight you say, ‘I get 50 percent of your money in this divorce.’ ”

“Well, f— you,” she continues, throwing the ball Marroquin’s way. “You are threatening the money I have now, as a single parent. You want to take me for child support … this is your ball. You’ve created this problem.”

At the end of the clip, Lowry accumulates more balls than Marroquin, and addresses why she was taking responsibility for most of their issues.

“I literally will take all the balls just to shut him the f— up,” she tells Dr. Ish Major.

“Does that resolve the issue?” he questions.

“Yes! I get away from him,” Lowry fires back.

Sam Smith Opens Up on Gender-Fluid Identity: ‘I Feel Just as Much a Woman as I Am a Man’

Sam Smith doesn’t need labels.

In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, the English singer opened up his gender identity, saying he doesn’t consider himself a cisgender man.

“I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man,” he elaborated.

Smith explained that he likes dressing in drag, revealing that he hits up the Australian drag shop House of Priscilla whenever he’s in Sydney, Australia.

“Oh, my god, I just buy everything — heels, dresses,” he said. “We have a great time.”

And this habit is nothing new. The 25-year-old crooner said he used to head to school in women’s clothing as a teen.

“There was one moment in my life where I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really,” he said. “I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr. Martens and huge fur coats, for 2 ½ years.”

Smith also opened up about coming out as gay, saying, “Looking back on it, it was the fear of saying the wrong thing and offending … And I was 19 when I started writing the first album. I’d just moved to London from a village — I was literally the only gay in the village. I didn’t know what I wanted to say.”

The singer also teased fans with a hint of what his new album Thrill of It All, dropping on Nov. 3, holds.

“I think they show my growth, my confidence. I feel like they show me,” he said. “They show the gay guy I’ve become.”

Earlier this month, Smith attended a performance of the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen — and rumored new boyfriend Brandon Flynn was also there.

His theater outing comes after he was pictured kissing and holding hands with the 13 Reasons Why star while out in Greenwich Village earlier in the day.

Katy Perry Says Her Short Hair Makes Her Feel ‘Politically, Mentally, Spiritually, and Sexually Liberated’

Katy Perry, along with a whole slew of other A-list celebs like Kristen Stewart, Zoë Kravitz, and Cara Delevingne, chopped off all her hair in April dyeing it a shade of platinum blonde and giving us some serious Justin Bieber vibes. While she confessed to Ellen DeGeneres that the chop actually started out as an accident, saying, “Sometimes your hair falls out when you go too blonde. So, this is the way I handled it,” it seems that the musician has now grown to love the look, telling W magazine that thanks to her haircut she’s never felt so free.

For her interview with the magazine, Lynn Hirschberg asked the singer if life is more enjoyable now that she’s gotten a close crop to which she responded, “Everything is more fun with short hair!” The pop star continued, “I can just get up and go. I feel so liberated with this hair now. In general, I feel 360-degrees liberated—all around. Whether it’s politically, mentally, spiritually, sexually. I feel liberated from all the things that don’t serve me. I’m surrendering and embracing my 30s. You couldn’t give me anything to go back to my 20s. To get to this place, I had to do some much-needed work on my heart, soul, mind, and body. Since doing that, a lot of beautiful things started to bloom again.”

Throughout the interview she also adds that the cut has made her feel “very free” and “I must have loosened up some new chakras.” And she’s not just thrilled with her new look, the singer is also happy to be back on tour, saying, “I feel both very overwhelmed and loved when I’m on tour. People take the time, energy, and money to come see me. That connection is such a beautiful thing. It’s so amazing to see everyone let their guard down and sing one of my songs from the bottom of their lungs—they’ll let go for a second. That’s a brave thing: We just don’t let go anymore.”

And Katy Kats could see their fav on the big screen or Broadway sometime soon as Perry says that while she’s been offered film roles in the past, “it hasn’t been quite right. I really love being the captain of my ship. If I were to do a film, I’d probably have to direct it. I’d love to do a musical! But that will come in time.”

‘Human Ken Doll’ Rodrigo Alves May Lose His Nose After Excessive Surgeries: ‘I Feel Like Crying’

After multiple plastic surgeries and a MRSA infection on his nose, Rodrigo Alves, aka the ‘Human Ken doll,’ is at risk of losing it altogether.

Alves, 33, can no longer breathe through his nose, and it’s so severely damaged that he heads to the Botched doctors for help on Sunday’s episode.

“His nostrils are so small, and after what he’s gone through with the MRSA, this is probably one of the worst results and complications that I’ve seen in my entire career,” Dr. Paul Nassif says in this exclusive clip.

“The issue is that what we call the ‘soft tissue envelope,’ that’s the skin. So by you having three surgeries in a time of 12 to 15 months, you destroyed your tissue,” Dr. Nassif tells Alves as Dr. Terry Dubrow looks on. “The skin’s no good.”

Dr. Nassif was unable to properly examine Alves’ nostrils, because there was no space to fit an otoscope.

“I feel like crying right now, but I’m holding back not to cry. Because I’m actually very, extremely worried, that’s why I’m here,” Alves tells Dr. Nassif.

“My nose was perfect, after this last rhinoplasty,” Alves adds. “And my friends, they never had this problem at all. And I was the unlucky one. So I keep asking myself now, ‘Why me?’ ”

Alves told PEOPLE in February that he’s undergone 51 plastic surgeries, and 105 aesthetic treatments, for a total of 375,000 pounds (or about $ 465,000) in medical costs.

RELATED VIDEO: Would Dr. Terry and Heather Dubrow Let Their Kids Ever Get Plastic Surgery?!

Dr. Nassif says that any further surgery is too risky while Alves’ nose is still healing from his last surgery.

“Now that you just had surgery three months ago, it’s going to scar down more, it’s in a healing phase,” Dr. Nassif says. “If you try to insult your skin one more time now while it’s healing, there’s a high possibility that if you let one of these doctors touch your nose now, this will turn black and then die and fall off.”

That elicits a gasp from Alves. See what he and the doctors decide on Sunday’s episode of Botched, airing at 9/8c on E!

What To Do When You Feel Like You Haven’t Accomplished Enough

Sometimes it happens like this: It’s a weekday, just another regular day. Then a couple of your coworkers get a promotion. You’re happy for them (kind of), but also start to wonder, “They got a promotion ― am I going to get a promotion? What am I even doing at this company?”

The day goes on but the feeling that you’re falling behind still lingers. You log into Facebook or Instagram that afternoon. You see that a neighbor had a baby. An old friend from college is engaged. Another couple you know just bought a house.

And now you feel full blown terrible, like everyone else is rolling doubles and skipping spaces, and you’re getting no where.

But hold on just a minute: Surely you’ve accomplished something in your lifetime. So what’s up with feeling like you haven’t?

That nagging feeling that you haven’t done enough, could be related to a number things like social pressure, high expectations or even a lack of purpose, according to experts.

So how do you fix it? Getting to the bottom of why you’re feeling unsatisfied with your accomplishments will take a bit of work. There’s also a few important things to remember when this feeling sneaks up on you. Below, experts explain how to handle this feeling:

Get specific about what’s making you feel bad.

“I have not accomplished enough in my life” is a very vague and self-defeating statement, according to Susan Krauss Whitbourne, a professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Instead, get specific about what is making you feel unsuccessful.

One way to do this is through journaling. Grab a pen and paper and write down what you think you haven’t accomplished, Whitbourne suggests. Then analyze it further.

For example, does it bother you that you don’t own a home? Jot it down then consider the factors that led to this so called “failure” and check them with reality. Have student loans or living in an expensive city made it hard to save for owning property?

It also might be helpful to jot down the things you have achieved and consider how long that achievement sustained you, according to Vincent Passarelli, a clinical psychologist based in New York City.

“If you’ve done something that’s great but then [your sense of satisfaction] fades very quickly, that’s definitely a red flag,” Passarelli said. It’s likely that specific “achievement” is not fulfilling you, and that you need to turn your energy to doing something that does more longterm, he added.

And it’s also fine to feel both disappointed and proud of what’s on the list you create. It’s normal to have successes like getting a master’s degree and failures like a string of relationships that have gone south, Passarelli said.

Do not compare other people’s lives to yours.

Comparing your life to another person’s Instagram feed ― a person whose personal challenges may be entirely different than yours ― is a recipe for making you feel wrecked.

“Half of what people post on social media is not exactly what it’s cracked up to be,” Krauss Whitborne said.

When you stack your life up against someone else’s without real knowledge about how they truly feel or what it took for them to accomplish something, it’s easy to convince yourself that you’re not enough, Whitborne said.

And if social media contributes to your tendency to compare your life to others’, dial back your use. Research shows that more than two hours of social networking per day is associated with psychological distress, anyway.

Have your own definition of success.

Success is different for everyone, Passarelli said. What may look like an accomplishment for someone else may not exactly be a fit for you ― and that’s okay.

For example, success for one person might be securing the job as a CEO of a company. Success for another person might be a full-time job with flexibility so he or she can get home early to take care of kids. There are so many ways in which people define what works for them.

Look at your failures objectively.

Sometimes failures make people feel like they haven’t done enough, according to Passarelli.

But here’s the thing: Failure is normal and can also be quite helpful if you learn something valuable. Look at your failures through an unbiased lens and determine what you can do differently the next time in order to feel like you accomplished something, Whitborne says.

“Pick yourself up, move on from there,” she explained. “And maybe set more realistic goals for yourself. Where was it that you went left instead of right, and can you go back to that place and start on a better trajectory upwards?”

Use multiple aspects of your life to build out your identity.

Don’t let one thing define too much of who you are, Passarelli says. You may be proud that you’re succeeding at work, but that’s not the only thing you bring to the table.

It’s better to think about your self-worth in a holistic way: Are you a good parent, sibling, aunt, uncle or friend? Do you volunteer in your community? Do you participate in a sports league every week? Apply value to all aspects of your identity, not just if you’ve, say, made partner at your firm.

The same goes for break ups: The end of a relationship or marriage shouldn’t define who you are or are not, Passarelli said.

Reaffirm your values.

Rather than focusing on productivity as it pertains to accomplishing goals, build stronger ties to accomplishing things based on what you value. These values could be character traits such as integrity, loyalty, honesty or kindness.

Shifting focus to values and away from how much “success” you’ve earned helps you recalibrate, Passarelli said. It can also help you feel more fulfilled in your endeavors, which is the point.

Remember that a hectic life does not equal an accomplished one.

“We falsely assume that being busy means that we’re smart and successful,” Passarelli said. “If our life is hectic, we’re successful or we have more value. Not true at all.”

In fact, a lot of times your best ideas come from down time. Research shows that carving out time for creativity, such as writing in a journal, sketching or playing an instrument just to unwind, can help lower stress and give people a sense of purpose.

“Leisure time does not equate to being lazy, does not equate to being unproductive,” Passarelli said. “Most successful people actually have that kind of down time. It’s where we learn a lot about our self and learn a lot about others and life.”

Now all of that sounds like the real recipe for success.

Julia Roberts Stands Behind Student Fighting for LGBTQ Rights Under Trump: ‘I Want All Students to Feel Safe’

As a transgender student leader in the conservative town of St. Joseph’s, Missouri, Miguel Johnson has witnessed firsthand the dramatic impact Donald Trump‘s presidency has had not just on his high school, but on the attitude of the entire town.

Just weeks before the election, Johnson, a GLSEN student ambassador, spoke onstage alongside Julia Roberts at the GLSEN Respect Awards, an event benefitting the national organization that works to keep schools safe for LGBTQ youth. Even among his brave young co-presenters, 16-year-old Johnson stood out.

“I had the pleasure of presenting with Miguel at last year’s GLSEN Respect Awards, and Miguel, like all the students I meet there, is smart, kind and incredibly brave to live their life openly and honestly at such a young age,” Roberts said in a statement to PEOPLE. “As a parent, I want all students to feel safe and protected at school, and I stand with Miguel and trans students across the country. You are loved.”

At the time, Johnson was cautiously optimistic about the upcoming election, which for the first time in history featured a Republican candidate who had openly acknowledged the LGTQ community. Trump even suggested Caitlyn Jenner would be welcome to use the bathroom of her choosing at Trump Tower.

“Before Trump got elected, he always said he was totally for LGBTQ students, because they’re people too and they deserve an education,” Johnson tells PEOPLE. “And then after he got elected, he was basically like, ‘Just kidding, I lied.’ “

On Feb. 22, President Trump overruled his own education secretary Betsy DeVos to rescind Obama-era protections for transgender students that had allowed them to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender identity. Instead, the Trump administration argued it should be up to the states and local school districts to establish “educational policy.”

Some states, like Johnson’s native Missouri, are already working to pass laws that would force students to use restrooms not based on the gender they identify with, but on the gender that appears on their birth certificates. “Since the recession of the transgender-inclusive Title IX guidance and introduction of two anti-trans state bills (HB202 & SB98) in Missouri, Miguel’s school has become less supportive and is now signaling potential roadblocks ahead,” GLSEN Director of Communications Chris Tuttle tells PEOPLE.

Johnson blames Trump’s flip-flopping on LGBTQ issues with changing the atmosphere of acceptance in his small town. “The feeling went from, ‘Trump is supporting LGBTQ students, so I should too,’ to ‘Well, if he doesn’t care, I don’t need to either.’ “

RELATED: Gavin Grimm Says the Battle Over Bathroom Use “Should Never Have Happened”

Dylan, another trans student at Johnson’s school, who asked that his last name remain anonymous, has noticed the same changes. “Once Trump became a candidate, my friends in the LGBTQ community heard more negative things being said about them openly. They’ve been threatened more, not only for how they identify, but also their race and even their religion.”

Dylan has also noticed that students seem to be more comfortable using offensive language in casual conversation. “I’ve heard more of it, not just directed towards my friends and me, but also just used in casual conservations, as if it were perfectly fine. Like if a person does something awkward in class, someone might say, ‘That’s so gay.’ “

Overall, hate crimes in nine U.S. metropolitan areas rose more than 20% last year, spurred by the heated emotions that arose during the presidential campaign, leading crimes researcher Brian Levin recently told NBC News. Crimes against Muslims and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people accounted for much of the hate crime growth, the researcher found. Many more cases, especially in small conservative towns like Miguel and Dylan’s, go unreported.

Trump’s rhetoric on issues like race, religion and national origin, could have influenced the number of incidents, as well as the number of incident reports, says Levin. “That, coupled with significant coverage, might have encouraged two things to happen: Individuals who vary in motivation, from hardcore bigots to those just seeking a thrill, seeking something to do, as well as victims who felt that they should report this because they’re not alone,” he adds.

Moving forward, Johnson says, “I’m still trying to figure out what I can do to feel okay and how to make my friends and fellow students feel okay, and honestly I don’t have an answer. There’s not an easy solution, especially when the person with the most power is messing stuff up. “

In the meantime, Johnson is doing what he can to encourage fellow LGBTQ students to speak up. “The more voices, the more heard,” he explains. Sadly, Johnson says he knows many students who were “just starting to be comfortable enough to come out in school,” but have “started to back down” since the election. Dylan has noticed the same pattern.

“So I’ve really just been encouraging them not to do that, because it’s the same as us going back in time,” Miguel says. “We need to be progressive. People don’t realize that these things affect people they know and care about. So I’m hoping that the more people come out and speak up, the more people will start realize this affects them too.”

Those Good Vibes You Feel After Sex Can Last For 48 Hours, Study Finds

Research has proven that people are generally in a better mood after having sex ― you can thank a flood of endorphins and other feel-good hormones for that. But how long do those post-sex feelings last?

A new study suggests that the positive effects of getting laid last up to two days ― and those good vibes also help couples bond over time.

Lead researcher Andrea Meltzer and her team at Florida State University examined data from two independent longitudinal studies, one with 96 newlywed couples and another with 118 newlywed couples. All the couples had completed at least three consecutive days of a 14-day sex diary.

Each night before falling asleep, the partners were asked to report whether they had sex that day. They were also asked to jot down how satisfied they were with three things: their sex life, their partner and their relationship as a whole.

On average, the participants had sex four days out of the 14. Unsurprisingly, sex on any given day was linked with feelings of sexual and relationship satisfaction ― but what’s interesting is that the afterglow effect lasted up to 48 hours later. And those who sustained the afterglow for that amount of time also were happy with their relationships months down the road.

“People with a stronger sexual afterglow ― that is, people who report a higher level of sexual satisfaction 48 hours after sex ― report higher levels of relationship satisfaction several months later.”
Andrea Meltzer

“People with a stronger sexual afterglow ― that is, people who report a higher level of sexual satisfaction 48 hours after sex ― report higher levels of relationship satisfaction several months later,” Meltzer said of the study, which was published this month in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Meltzer said what most surprised her most about the findings was how well the mental benefits of sex synced up with human biology.

“Forty-eight hours is roughly the same amount of time that (a) conception is maximized, (b) it takes sperm concentrations to be restored to peak levels, and (c) sperm remain maximally viable in the female reproductive tract,” she said. “It’s really interesting that lingering cognitive implications of sex ― sexual afterglow, for instance ― last for the same amount of time as the biological implications of sex.”

Meltzer said that newlyweds were singled out for the study because they engage in sex more frequently than long-term couples ― a requisite for the research.

“Our theory was based on reproduction,” Meltzer told HuffPost. “Given that newlyweds are often young and of reproductive age, they were an ideal sample in which to test our predictions.”

In sum? Sex plays a major role in satisfaction and pair bonding, even if you’re not having sex every day of the week.

Gwyneth Paltrow on Working Out Almost Every Day: ‘I Definitely Don’t Always Feel Like Doing It!’

Gwyneth Paltrow has credited her near-daily workouts for looking young and feeling strong, but admits she’s not always in the mood to hit the gym.

“I like feeling good, and I know I feel my best when I exercise. But it depends on the day — I definitely don’t always feel like doing it,” the actress and lifestyle guru, 44, tells Women’s Health in the April issue. “I’ve made it a habit, just like brushing your teeth. That’s how you have to look at it.”

Paltrow swears by the Tracy Anderson Method for keeping in shape.

“I’ve been a Tracy Anderson fanatic for over a decade, I’m an investor in her company, so yeah, I go every morning,” she says. “I drop the kids at school, work out, go to work.”

In addition to a disciplined workout regiment, Paltrow sticks to a pretty clean diet to stay feeling her best. However, she lets herself indulge when she wants to.

“I have a pretty healthy diet, so when I’m eating processed foods and not watching my alcohol intake, I feel it. But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun — pleasure!” she says. “You’re going to have a baguette-and-cheese-and-red-wine frenzy sometimes, but you want it to be a choice you’re awake to: ‘I know this might not make me feel great, but today I’m choosing it anyway.’ ”

Paltrow also spoke to the magazine about how she deals with being judged.

“When someone doesn’t like something you do, or doesn’t share your interest in something, that doesn’t have anything to do with you,” she says. “One of the best things someone ever said to me was that the only time criticism hurts is if you have a judgment about yourself about that very thing.”

This Mandy Moore Shower Mosaic In NYC Apartment Makes Us Feel Things

Few could argue the genius that is Mandy Moore. She made a seamless transition from pop starlet to film star to TV icon and, most recently, she’s been seen in a shower in Queens, New York.

Twitter user @walkerkaplan tweeted a fantastic text exchange with a friend of his wherein they discuss how another friend had purchased an apartment in Queens with a fascinating mosaic:

Yes, that is in fact Mandy Moore in a bikini on a shower wall.

The Twitter user confirmed to New York Magazine that the photo of this “Candy”-era Moore is “legit as far as he knows.”

Other Twitter users sent in their own mosaic findings and, while great in their own right, they still pale in comparison to the glory that is Moore.

The world is beautiful and weird and Mandy Moore is a queen.

Anne Rice: ‘I Feel Like I’m Gay’ And Forget ‘I Have A Gender’

The Vampire Chronicles author Anne Rice recently revealed that she not only feels like she’s gay, but that she often finds herself forgetting she has a gender.

Speaking with The Daily Beast, she discussed her relationship with the LGBTQ community, sexuality and gender.

“I’ve always been very much a champion of gay rights, and art produced by gay people,” Rice said in the interview. “People told me Interview with the Vampire was a gay allegory, and I was very honored by that. I think I have a gay sensibility and I feel like I’m gay, because I’ve always transcended gender, and I’ve always seen love as transcending gender”

Rice added, “I get teased a lot by my gay friends because we have a rapport on things we find exciting or interesting. It’s very hard for me to remember that I have a gender…”

Read the full interview with the Daily Beast here.

The best-selling author of gothic fiction rose to fame thanks to her wildly popular The Vampire Chronicles, which were adapted into the blockbuster films “Interview with a Vampire” and “Queen of the Damned.”

Rice’s latest project, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, centers around her same antihero, Lestat, from The Vampire Chronicles. She is also currently working to develop a television pilot alongside her openly gay son, Christopher Rice, based on The Vampire Chronicles, which is being touted as a “Game Of Thrones”-style series.

5 Tips to Feel Up on Down Days

Let’s face it–some days are better than others.

Our very bad day might be due to our health, our work, or even the weather, but having a difficult day is still a fact. And how we respond to those down days is extremely important.

In the past, I remember thinking that when I felt down or under the weather, there was something wrong with me. I was under the mistaken impression that I needed to feel good all the time. It felt as though that expectation created a lot of pressure in my life–until I realized that nobody could expect to be blissfully happy every day.

So I started paying attention to those down times and noticed that each time I came out of a lull, I ended up with a clearer vision and a new zest for life that I didn’t have before. Having the occasional down day turned out to be okay–it served a purpose.

The lows of life are as important as the highs. They are times of reflection, gathering information, comparing and contrasting thoughts and feelings, and refreshing our perspective. Think of it like sleeping. When you sleep, your body restores and heals itself. When you wake, you usually feel refreshed and renewed.

Having a down day? Here are some tips to help lift your spirits:

1. Listen to good music. Playwright William Congreve wrote in The Mourning Bride, “Musick has charms to soothe a savage breast,” (often misquoted as, “Music has charms to soothe the savage beast,”) and rightfully so. The calming and healing powers of music have been documented throughout the centuries.

2. Connect with someone. Go out for lunch or coffee; pick up the phone, chat, IM, text–whatever you like–just connect with a friend or family member. Sometimes just talking to someone can lift your mood, even if it’s only for a few minutes.

3. Read a book or watch a movie. Pick up a new book or re-read a favorite; leaf through one of those magazines stacked on your coffee table; or surf Netflix and find a good movie. Healthy distractions can bring quick relief on those challenging days.

4. Walk in nature. Go outside and take a nice long walk. Besides the exercise and fresh air for your body, walking can also be restorative for the mind. Allow your troubles to take a break and just enjoy moving and breathing.

5. Focus on what you have. Gratitude always brings relief, and giving thanks for what we already have is something we can do at any time, anywhere. Things could always be worse.

Life isn’t about being perfect; life is about being present. Embrace the down times. Embrace the days we don’t feel so great, for in those days, we are internally realigning ourselves with what we really want. And when we start moving back into alignment, better balance is near.

Read more tips about keeping a positive perspective in 21 Days to Better Balance, or one of Michael’s other books at

Video Of A Mole Stuck In A Hole Makes Us Feel Some Type Of Way

Holey moley is right!

A tiny mole seeking sweet, sweet above-ground freedom was almost denied that liberty when it got stuck between two slabs of pavement.

The mole, reportedly Dutch, was recently filmed by a woman walking her dog in the city of Gorinchem, Holland. The footage shows the tiny subterranean animal throwing its paws in the air as it struggles emerge from the ground.

But don’t fret — the little dude wasn’t stuck there for long. The mole eventually broke free from the concrete and scampered into a nearby bush, according to Yahoo UK. Score one for the moles, yet again.

Anyway, this is what a mole looks like up close, for those who are interested (Note: NOT the same mole that was stuck in the hole):

And here’s another mole cheezin’ for the camera, because why not:

(Again, not the same mole that was stuck in the hole):

John Leguizamo Says High School History Makes Latino Students Feel ‘Invisible’

Latino contributions to U.S. history remain largely absent from high school history books, and John Leguizamo is doing something about it.

The 51-year-old actor and comedian sat down with HuffPost Live’s Alyona Minkovski Tuesday to discuss his upcoming film “American Ultra” and his upcoming comedy project “Latin History for Dummies.”

Over the years, Leguizamo has had success with autobiographical one-man shows like “Freak” and “Ghetto Klown,” in which he details his life experiences as a Latino growing up in the U.S. These projects, he told HuffPost Live, arose partly because he felt Latinos were underrepresented in the media.

“It was like, I’m watching TV and I’m watching movies and listening to radio and we’re invisible,” Leguizamo said. “I was like, where are all the Latin people that I hang out with and goof with all day and talk about politics and talk about art?… So I started writing my own stuff, I wanted to see my people the way I saw them.”

On the topic of Latino visibility, the comedian showed particular concern for the absence of Latinos in U.S. history education — despite research that shows Latino students exposed to ethnic studies perform better in school.

“Just imagine, you’re a white kid and all of a sudden everybody’s Latin and everything they’re teaching you is Latin and you don’t hear anything about yourself or about your contributions,” Leguizamo said. “You don’t know hear about George Washington, you don’t hear about Thomas Jefferson and you feel like you haven’t contributed anything. How would you feel? How would you think of your future? How would you think of your participation in American culture?”

“You feel like an invisible person screaming in the woods and nobody hears you,” he added. “And it’s really weird and unfair because we had huge contributions.”

Watch Leguizamo discuss Latino contributions to U.S. history above. And watch the full segment below to hear the actor’s thought on who is to blame for the lack of Latinos in film.

Here’s How People Really Feel About Their Marriage Proposals

Read this before planning a flash mob or jumbotron marriage proposal.

New research out of the The University of Texas at Austin suggests that most people want a private proposal. And while they usually get what they want in that regard, people’s dream proposal is significantly more romantic than their actual proposal in many cases.

Ph.D. candidates Liz Keneski and Taylor Anne Morgan surveyed nearly 400 newly-engaged and newly-married individuals to understand how they feel about their proposals, engagements and weddings

“What we know from previous research is that relationship transitions, or big changes during relationships, affect how partners view the relationship, how they treat one another, how their friends and family members might view the relationship, and how happy they are in the relationship,” Keneski said. “So we knew that studying engagements and wedding planning…would give us a more complete picture of how relationships grow and change over time.”

Check out some of their results below, and click over to The Science Of Relationships for more.

His rigid, ultra masculine hands moved in circles across the small of her back, loosening up the tightness in her muscles. It caused even more tightness between her legs, as the feeling of his hands against her smooth, soft back was beginning to make her horny. “You got a nice touch,” Yolanda said, putty in Travis’ hands. “You don’t know the half, love,” he said. Just as Yolanda loosened up, she felt a pair of soft lips on the back of her neck, which caused a wave of heat to flow through her body. Her skin stood up and her body was suddenly sensitive to the touch. “Mmmm, baby. What you doin’?” Yolanda purred. Volume 2 EXCERPT: “Revenge is exactly what I have in mind,” he said. How to Make Your Dad Feel Special on Your Wedding Day

With Father’s Day just around the corner and it being the season of summer weddings, I wanted to share some unique ideas on how to celebrate your dad on the “big day.” My dad is one of my biggest role models and has been there for me through it all. And I know my wedding was an especially important day for him, so it was really important to us to incorporate him into it. Cheers to all of the fathers out there!

1. Thank your dad before you walk down the aisle. For a father, walking his daughter down the aisle can be both the scariest and happiest moments of his life. Before you make your big appearance, thank him and make sure he knows how important he is to you. If you have time in the morning, you can even do a “first look” with your dad, or deliver to him a hand-written letter explaining how much he means to you.

2. Dance to your dad’s favorite song! The father-daughter wedding dance is a special tradition, but personalize it even more by dancing to one of your dad’s favorite songs. He not only will be smiling to have his little girl in his arms, but he will be grooving with his best moves.

3. Ask your dad to read something special during the ceremony. Dad’s typically give a toast during the reception, but incorporating him into the ceremony will make him feel like he has a bigger role on your special day. He won’t say no!

4. Wear something that belongs to your dad. People always hear about bride’s wearing their mother’s wedding gown, but we rarely ever hear about them wearing something of their dad’s. Whether it is a piece of jewelry he wears or even the pattern of his favorite tie, incorporate it into your wedding day.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask for your dad’s opinion. When it comes to planning the big day, make sure your father knows his voice will be heard and that what he thinks matters too!

Beyonce Launches Vegan Home Delivery Meal Service In Hopes You’ll Feel #Flawless

If a diva is a female version of a hustler, then, logically speaking, a vegan diva is the female version of a vegan hustler.

The clean-eating Beyonce herself recently partnered with her personal trainer, exercise physiologist Marco Borges, to launch the 22 Days Nutrition plant-based home delivery meal service. The service offers three meal plans, where you can sign up to receive anywhere from one to three meals a day for 22 days delivered to your door each week. A full three-meals-a-day package will cost you a total of $ 629.79, including shipping of $ 19.95. According to the website, all of the meals are gluten-free, soy-free and organic. Each meal is “a perfect balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat with limited salt and sugar.”

The meal plan busts the myth that vegans struggle to get enough protein in their diets. “In reality, eating a variety of beans, nuts, seeds and grains will give your body the protein it needs to keep energy levels up and build and keep muscle tone,” the website says.

Twenty-two days of veganism may seem random, but the time span is a conscious choice of Borges and Beyonce. “The program’s philosophy is based on the concept that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit and on the 22nd day you are well on your way to forming new habits,” says a statement. The meal plan is targeted to those who want to lose weight, cook less or simply “experience a whole new way of eating.”

“I am so grateful that I took the challenge and credit Marco with leading by example,” Beyonce says in the statement. “He is the most energetic person I know and it’s all because of his decision to live a healthy lifestyle. He came up with a great program to get people motivated to make better nutritional choices. All you have to do is try. If I can do it, anyone can.”

Beyonce’s first public stint with veganism was in December 2013, when she and her husband Jay Z adopted the plant-based diet for 22 days. Jay Z referred to the challenge as “a spiritual and physical cleanse.”

My Wife Told Me She Wants to Cheat, Here’s How I Feel

When Elloa Atkinson confessed to the Internet that she wanted to cheat on her husband, the Internet went crazy. Here is her husband Nige’s side of the story.

Elloa and Nige:

We had reservations about republishing this, originally shared on The Good Men Project, here. Therefore we’d like to say at the outset that there is no prescription here, no recommendation or suggestion about how other people “should” conduct themselves. We do our best to live by the principle of emotional responsibility which states that I am 100 percent responsible for my experience, as you are for yours. The concept of honesty is one part of this, and while it feels risky, it is, as our teachers Duane and Catherine O’Kane write, “far less risky than acting out.” We share this story for the people who want to believe that vulnerability, as scary as it feels, is ultimately worth the risk.

I wrote a post about wanting to cheat on my husband, and it went viral. The response was mixed, the opinions passionate. The only voice that was noticeably absent was that of my husband, Nige.

This didn’t seem right, but it did feel significant, symbolic of the collective vow of silence that today’s men are living under.

While some people expressed their outrage that I would hurt my husband in this way, others shared either publicly or privately that they too have had these kind of thoughts, fantasies and yes, even obsessions. Still others protested that if a man were to speak about being attracted to women whilst in a relationship, he would be lambasted.

This conversation, sparked by my article, appears to be one we are ready to have. The next step was clear. It was time for Nige to speak.

A few weeks ago, when Elloa disclosed her secret attraction, I felt like my stomach had been clamped in a vice. Then, as her confession came, an inward surge of Hulk-like anger, all too familiar. My thoughts were no different than some of the judgmental comments that appeared in reaction to her article on The Huffington Post. Let’s face it: the ego always speaks first, and often cruelly.

The difference was, I know enough about this part of my mind not to voice my thoughts at this point. The first thing I have to do in these moments is take a breath, then another one, then another one. If I react now, it’s game on for the ego, but game over for the relationship — and I won’t let the ego win, because it viciously guards a set of mistaken beliefs that drive me further and further away from the one thing I truly want the most: love.

Therefore, Elloa and I have a contract about disclosing our secrets and dark thoughts to each other. We both understand that secrets kill relationships, and see so many couples playing a long-term game of hide and seek with each other. In our marriage, we are determined to fully know and be known by the other, and that means having the kind of raw, honest conversation that Elloa’s article described. The purpose of this is to go beyond the secret thought to the fear of who we are underneath, the fear that is driving that secret thought, desire or behavior.

Having this depth of honesty in our communication is not easy. It is scary, vulnerable and unpredictable.

Fortunately, we have enough tools in our relationship kitbag to be able to work through any form of upset in a safe and contained way, without using the other person as a dumping ground. The critical element in the whole process is the intention that we both set at the beginning.

We did what we always do in this situation, utilizing a therapeutic process (adapted from Clearmind International) that forms a core part of our relationship. The process gives permission to the reactive, raging part of my mind to unleash its fury for three solid minutes without any kind of reaction whatsoever from Ell. Crucial to the process is that she remains neutral, and that no physical boundaries are crossed whatsoever.

When the other person refuses to fight back but also stays the course and remains in a place of neutrality (not always easy to do), something amazing happens: the brutal, vicious attacking part of our mind gives way and we literally “drop” into our feelings. This is the place no man wants to go — a pit of despair, self-loathing, shame and loneliness.

My anger, directed initially towards Elloa for her “disgusting” behavior, was really masking a deep wound that I have carried since I was a boy — the belief that I in fact am completely inadequate and unloveable.

The root of this belief lies in my childhood, during which I lost a testicle after being kicked by another boy and the subsequent taunting, which dogged me for most of my schooldays. I grew up believing I was a freak. I called myself the odd man out.

Fast forward 39 years and there I am with my wife, feeling 6 years old again: raw, exposed and vulnerable, with my head in my hands. I am terrified to look up, afraid she will reject me. In that moment, I feel deeply ashamed of who I am.

I know there is only one way through this shame — I have to make contact. I have to let her see me, otherwise I’ll just be an empty shell. If I don’t let her into my world, then I’m doomed to walk this planet as a zombie, a man with a plastic smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes. And yet there is so much I want to say. Somehow, I have to take a risk and open up.

As a man, I haven’t been taught by our society how to express my feelings. It’s as taboo as wanting to cheat, forbidden in daily life and permissible only in the direst of circumstances. Even then, only a few tears are allowed before the words “man up” come into play.

Even now, after nearly three decades of inner work, speaking about how I feel often feels clumsy and awkward for me. However, experience has taught me not to listen to the shaming voice that tells me that I’m weak if I cry.

So on the day Ell told me about her crush, I let her hold me while my body shook and the tears poured out of me. I told her everything I fear I am and she just listened, just held me and let me let it all out.

Eventually, I came to a quieter place. The dam, once burst, doesn’t gush water uncontrollably forever. The wave subsides. I am left with my beliefs.

After the outrage and attack, after the shame and the guilt, after the tears, there is a moment of true choice. This is the state from which I can change my mind, because here, I am open. Here, I am willing to accept help. I ask my wife, this woman who just a few minutes ago I thought was the cause of all my pain, to help me remember who I am.

And the truth comes back to me. I am not the odd man out. I never was. I am strong. I am worth loving. I am good. And nothing can be taken from me because I have everything I need within.

This is not a theoretical or intellectual knowing, it is an experience I inhabit when I work through, rather than dance around or avoid, my deepest fears. The function of my relationship isn’t to avoid experiencing pain or the realization of my fears — it is to give each other a soft place to land when one of us needs to show up, knowing that the healing is always twofold.

Elloa revealing her attraction therefore became a catalyst for me to expose a war wound that I carry on a daily basis and to do the work of changing my perception of myself. I do not do this work alone. I do it from a mindset of making conscious contact with my wife and with myself.

I’m a normal guy; I have thoughts of sexual attraction towards other women almost every day. Some are fleeting while others linger. It’s the ones that linger that trouble me the most. But I know that with each attraction there is an opportunity — often not as dramatic as this one — to take a step closer to my wife, to myself and to being the type of man I want the world to know exists.

And that is why, in our household, my wife Elloa is always welcome to tell the truth, and why I tell mine in return.

This Is What Breasts Really Look And Feel Like (NSFW)

We see breasts every day on billboards, in magazines, on HBO. They’re photoshopped and perfectly lit, idealized fantasy versions of reality. Weirdly, it can sometimes seem that the breasts we see the least of are our own, and the way we talk about them reflects that.

When breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! initially asked women to describe their breasts for the What Normal Feels Like campaign, they almost universally picked a size. Big, small, maybe somewhere in the middle. But, as CoppaFeel! argues in the campaign, there’s so much more to our breasts, and it’s about time we got acquainted.

WARNING: Images below are NSFW.
breast ads

“When we describe our breasts, we only refer to their size and quite often we’re not even nice about it; hands up who answered tiny or saggy? Well, this year, we want you to get to know your boobs, have a good feel and think about what new words you could use to describe them,” CoppaFeel! writes on its website.

The charity’s end goal is to encourage more women to complete self breast exams so that they can get a feel for how their breasts are normally, and be able to identify any changes. The campaign they launched to get there is pretty powerful.

Just in time for October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CoppaFeel! will be displaying photos of seven shirtless women on billboards throughout the United Kingdom.

“Society and the media think of breasts in a sexual way, but by creating this campaign we want to give boobs back to women and encourage them to think and talk about them in terms beyond size,” CoppaFeel! founder Kris Hallenga said, per various media outlets. “The more normal it is to talk about boobs, the more likely women are to check themselves regularly and spot any changes early.”

The campaign reportedly marks the first time uncensored, non-sexualized images of naked breasts have been displayed nationally on U.K. billboards. Cosmopolitan reports that the models featured in the campaign were selected on a “first come, first serve” basis, because CoppaFeel! wanted them to be more representative of the average woman.

“It emphasizes how rare it is to see breasts shown in an honest and non-sexualized way in the media,” Rankin, the mononymous photographer that brought the campaign to life, said of the images, according to media outlets.

“This campaign aims to help women reclaim the vocabulary around breasts and know what normal feels like for them,” Rankin also said.

Check out the campaign’s powerful (and NSFW) images, below.

This 6-Year-Old Donated Her Hair In Hopes Of Helping Young Cancer Patients Feel Like Royalty

While some girls dream of looking like a princess, this girl dreamed of making that wish come true for young cancer patients.

Charlie Tillotson, 6, of Sidmouth, England, had never gotten a haircut, and was passionate about protecting her long, golden locks, according to the Daily Star.

She has always wanted to grow it as long as Rapunzel,” her father said.

However, after watching a T.V. show about kids battling cancer, Charlie was inspired to chop off her locks for Little Princess Trust, an organization that donates wigs to young cancer patients. She also decided to raise money for Children With Cancer U.K. — a charity that aims to help children and teenagers fight cancer — through a fundraising page that her father helped her set up.

Charlie’s father, Steve Tillotson, said he was moved by his daughter’s request.

“She came up to me … and said, ‘Daddy, would you mind if I had all my hair cut off for children with cancer?'” Tillotson told the Sidmouth Herald. “I welled up.

Her haircut took 2 feet off her total length of hair, and will be made into a wig for a child with cancer, according to Metro. While the cut took place two weeks ago, Charlie has already said she wants to do it all over again once her hair has grown back, and bring a smile to another child’s face, the Daily Star reported.

Her fundraiser was also successful. Tillotson said he and his daughter originally set a goal of raising 600 British pounds (about $ 1,010) through their Just Giving page. The fundraiser more than doubled their goal, bringing in more than 1300 pounds (about $ 2,200).

Charlie’s good deeds did not go unnoticed. The town of Sidmouth is rewarding her by giving her a true princess treatment. Charlie will get her own float at the Sidmouth carnival, as well as a ball gown and tiara, according to the Sidmouth Herald.

Feel Good Fashion: Parisian Chic Style of Portland Fashion Designer Michelle Decourcy

Portland has plenty of interesting fashion looks and creative self-expressions seen everyday throughout the city in different neighborhoods.

Yes, people living out different lifestyles, mixing and matching what appeals to their own personal taste, and I appreciate the vibrant array of self-directed fashion views that Portland peeps take on each and every one of them.

However what continues, to draw my attention is well-crafted elegance. Yes, designs that spell simple glamour, like the Parisian chic style of Portland fashion designer Michelle Decourcy.

“I like to feel good,” so says Decourcy.

Model, Lauren Jewels and Photography by Travis Geny

Okay, sounds easy enough. What else?

“And I like to turn to my closet for inspiration and design my collections from what I wear every day.”

Model, Lauren Jewels and Photography byTravis Geny

Furthermore, what I like about the custom made designs by Decourcy is the deeply rooted fashion reflection of Parisian quality, sophisticated fabrics, (French lace) and silhouettes that move, and groove with the female body.

Model, Lauren Jewels and Photography by Travis Geny

Others agree, The Stylist Kimberly Warner writes, “Michelle DeCourcy’s meteoric rise in the fashion industry has made her one of the industry’s shooting stars. Michelle burst onto the scene when Norah Jones wore her dress to the 2003 Grammy Awards.”

Decourcy, a muse of many talents, when not in studio meeting clients and designing her bridal collection, and ready-to-wear fashion, is living large on stage as a rock star in her band called the Rock Tarts, performing the music of the 80’s, 90’s, and now some of her own original tunes.

How does Decourcy maintain her creative fire?

“When it’s not fun anymore, stop.”

Model, Lauren Jewels and Photography by Travis Geny

I appreciate that kind of strength and joie de vivre as the French would say, so here are a few pieces from the bridal collection and ready-to-wear line that capture the Decourcy sparkle.

One final fashion tip when selecting or creating an outfit?

Decourcy says, “Keep in simple. Choose one body part to make a focused fashion statement, like the back, legs or chest. Invite mystery to be a part of your look, in other words, reveal a little and cover up the rest, and by all means feel good.”

Robin Thicke’s ‘Feel Good’ Video Is No ‘Blurred Lines’

Robin Thicke debuted the new music video to his single “Feel Good” this week, taking a far tamer direction with the clip than that of his headline-making “Blurred Lines” video. The visuals to “Feel Good” show the 36-year-old singer in a tuxedo at a piano; he’s later joined by a group of female dancers, but, unlike “Blurred Lines,” they remain clothed. “Feel Good” is the latest single off of Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” album. He saw major success with the project, nabbing his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Take a look at “Feel Good” below.
