Oscar de la Renta, Saks Fifth Avenue Partner to Mark Save Lake Tahoe’s 50th Anniversary

When models walked the runway at the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s fund-raiser in 1969, they were barefoot on a beach. “It was raw,” said Saks Fifth Avenue’s president Marc Metrick, of the original setting. “It was fashion at its core.” Held at a Rubicon Bay beach house on the lake, the function began as a collaboration between the late Bill Blass and Saks Fifth Avenue’s James J. Ludwig, a vice president and general manager of the retailer’s San Francisco branch at the time. Along with Eugene Levin, owner of Maurice Rentner (Blass was its designer), they took notice of Bay Area customers vacationing in Lake Tahoe for the summer and relocated their habitual fall presentation, usually held in August, to the Sierra Nevada area. “It moved from a fashion show with boxed lunches — literally, there were boxed picnic lunches — to an involved community event,” continued Metrick. What started as an intimate show has evolved into a significant production that has raised $ 1 million this year and a total of more than $ 18 million for programs dedicated to the protection and preservation of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The affair, which now showcases Oscar de la Renta designs, celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend. “Oscar and

Milano Moda Graduate Awards Fifth Edition’s Winners

Nurturing the next generation of fashion talents is key to the Italian chamber of fashion, which for the fifth year kicked off Milan Men’s Fashion Week with its Milano Moda Graduate event.
Conceived as a celebration of free creativity and a chance to give credit and visibility to young designers, the runway show featured collections from eight students selected from a range of Italian fashion schools including IED, Istituto Marangoni, NABA and IUAD, Accademia della moda, among others.
“The CNMI [Camera Nazionale Moda Italiana] Fashion Trust is involved in really supporting these talents and this event marks the official kickoff of the Men’s Fashion Week. I’m proud because one of our pillars is to nurture these young designers and be committed to sustain education,” said Carlo Capasa, chairman of the fashion association.
Francesco Murano of Milan’s IED scooped up the CNMI Fashion Design Prize for best collection. The Fashion Trust, a nonprofit entity established last year and supported by a group of philanthropists, entrepreneurs and investors, which helps young talents, backed the winner with a 10,000 euros monetary award.
“We’ve seen unique fashion pieces and talented, skilled young designers, the overall level was very high, which made it hard for us to make a

A Fifth ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff Is Coming Because Four Aren’t Enough

When it comes to spinoff shows, “Game of Thrones” doesn’t want to be spokes on a wheel. It wants to break the wheel!

Series author George R.R. Martin cleared up news about the development of HBO’s four “Game of Thrones” spinoffs on his Not A Blog Sunday, revealing that a fifth show is now in the works with a secret writer. Surprise!

We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.

If there are five spinoffs on the way, HBO might be in need of some of that Lannister gold to pay for them. But Martin himself thinks it’s unlikely that five new shows will be making it on-air.

For now, the author wants us to know that there is an order for five pilot scripts and he is working with all the writers, not just two as previously reported.

Also, the spinoffs aren’t going to be spinoffs like we usually think of them. They’re all going to be prequels from stories we likely haven’t heard before:

So all of you who were hoping for the further adventures of Hot Pie are doomed to disappointment. Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel. Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel,’ however, I prefer the term ‘successor show.’ That’s what I’ve been calling them.

But there won’t be any Robert’s Rebellion or Dunk and Egg prequels as of now. Sorry, everyone.

And for those who are wondering, Martin reiterated that he’s still working on his next book in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series, The Winds of Winter. But, oh sweet summer child, you probably shouldn’t expect it to come anytime soon.

At least we have the possibility of five new “Game of Thrones” shows on the way.

Open that wine, Tyrion. It’s time to turn up.

Reem Acra to Hold Bridal Fashion Show at Tiffany Flagship on Fifth Avenue

ACRA’S BRIDAL MARCH: Reem Acra won’t just be using Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue flagship to debut her spring bridal collections. The designer also plans to create wedding gowns and dresses inspired by Tiffany style and glamour.
While not a brand collaboration, Tiffany first connected with Acra when one of her gowns was featured as part of the Moda Operandi exhibition at the store last fall. Afterward, Acra “shared her affinity for the Tiffany brand,” a Tiffany spokesman said Monday.
Two hundred guests are expected at the April 18 fashion show. But there will be no cobranding or cross-promoting of the 20-style collection beyond the event invitations, the Tiffany spokesman said.
By staging a bridal show at Tiffany, Acra will be following in the footsteps of Carolina Herrera, who held one there in 2009 inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse and other artists. And another bridal powerhouse, Vera Wang, teamed with Tiffany for a runway show at the Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore in 2011. Acra declined comment Monday through a spokesman.
Acra is celebrating her own anniversary this year — 20 years in business. The designer has been spending a lot of time in Dubai, where she’s shooting “Fashion Star” for Dubai

The couple just welcomed their fifth child together, Spelling’s rep confirmed to People.

The baby boy, named Beau Dean McDermott, was born on Thursday afternoon, weighing 5 lbs., 12 oz.

Spelling confirmed the news herself on Twitter with a sweet photo of the newborn’s hand holding what looks to be his dad’s hand.

We are over the moon in love with baby Beau. He is a true blessing and his brothers and sisters were overjoyed to meet him! We are all truly grateful for our big beautiful and healthy family,” Spelling told People.

Baby Beau joins siblings Finn, 4, Hattie, 5, Stella, 8, and Liam, 9. McDermott is also dad to an 18-year-old son, Jack, from a previous marriage.

She documented the pregnancy on social media over the past few months, sharing plenty of photos of her growing belly with followers online.

Fear of God’s Fifth Collection

Jerry Lorenzo isn’t the typical men’s fashion designer. He holds an MBA instead of a degree from a fashion school, and he prefers to scour vintage stores and flea markets rather than sketch. He also waited 16 months before unveiling the latest collection for Fear of God, his cult label that has attracted fans such as Justin Bieber, Russell Westbrook, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
In Fear of God’s Fifth Collection, which is the equivalent of a fall 2017 release, Lorenzo stuck with high school in the Nineties as his theme. This time, though, he walked across the hall from the classroom where the grunge rockers who inspired his Fourth Collection hang to the spot occupied by the hip-hop crew that also excels at sports.
“The muse is more of this high school athlete of the Nineties who, at the time, dictated what is cool in fashion,” he said during a preview at his studio in downtown Los Angeles.
Speaking this muse’s athletic language, Lorenzo introduced mesh and put a lot of attention on sweats, basketball shorts and jerseys. He also veered off course into punkish plaid pants with drawstring waists and unzipped ankles and pajama-style shirts and coats. He expanded his textile

Saks Fifth Avenue Dedicates Windows to Fern Mallis

SAKS CELEBRATES MALLIS: Saks Fifth Avenue is putting Fern Mallis in the spotlight by dedicating 16 of its streetfront windows — including all of the Fifth Avenue ones — to her new book “Fashion Icons.” Drawing from her “Fashion Icons” conversations at 92Y with the likes of Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs, the Rizzoli-published tome will be stacked up in the displays with select mannequins adorned in designer attire from each of her respective subjects.
Expected at Monday’s book signing and party are Klein, von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Norma Kamali, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, André Leon Talley, Betsey Johnson, Simon Doonan and Bill Cunningham. The event will be the first one to be hosted by Saks’ new president Marc Metrick.
As for how she reeled in so many people to the Upper East Side Y, Mallis said, “I don’t want to pat myself on the back, but I did a lot of research. Most people don’t get to know a designer in that way or hear them talk about their lives. There was a warmth and comfort in each of the conversations that made people feel safe in talking to me.”
