Talbots and O, The Oprah Magazine Join Forces for Capsule Collection to Benefit Dress for Success Benefit

For its fourth cobranded collaboration with O, The Oprah Magazine to benefit Dress for Success, Talbots is anchored in the kicked-back “T by Talbots” line.
This year’s cobranded, limited-run collection leans on comfort to remind shoppers about the importance of self-care and to help them keep up appearances while on the go. O and Talbots recruited four active personalities to help spread the word — ABC’s “American Housewife” star Katy Mixon, former Olympian and fitness guru Angela Manuel-Davis, cohost of the Food Network’s “The Kitchen” Katie Lee and actor and musician Amber Riley.
During last month’s three-day “Girls’ Getaway” Holland America-O cruise, the 2,700 guests (of which 60 were men) had first dibs on the five-piece special collection and 30-plus styles from Talbots’ spring line in the O Shop. And Talbots hosted a “Love That!” fashion show where O’s creative director Adam Glassman shared his fashion advice with hundreds of women, styling the capsule collection with Talbots’ spring items. The magazine’s editor at large Gayle King was also on deck for the maiden voyage of Holland America’s “Nieuw Statendam,” as well as 25 “Mag Insiders.” When all was said and done, many cruise-goers headed to shore with three or four Talbots purchases,

Disney Villains and The Blonds Join Forces for Runway Show

DISNEY’S MOST WICKED HIT THE RUNWAY: Some of Disney’s most wicked characters will be taking center stage during New York Fashion Week on Sept. 7. Luxury fashion brand The Blonds will present their spring 2019 runway collection at Spring Studios, inspired by several of Disney’s most devilish characters.
The Blonds, cofounded by designer Phillipe Blond and creative director David Blond, will feature looks inspired by Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Evil Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Dr. Facillier, Ursula and her dark eel minions Flotsam and Jetsam.

The Blonds team up with Disney Villains for its runway show Sept. 7.

“The Disney Villains style is iconic and has inspired us since childhood and throughout our career. The opportunity to collaborate with Disney and see these designs come to life on The Blonds runway is an absolute dream come true,” said Phillipe Blond.
“What drew us to working with Disney Villains are the complex attributes of the characters themselves,” said David Blond. “Often misunderstood, Disney Villains are flawed, imposing and mysterious, and we loved the idea of taking these characteristics and translating them in a glamorous way, making them the heroes of our story.”
Ken Potrock, president, consumer products and commercialization at Disney, said, “Disney Villains have long lived

Bridget Foley’s Diary: Ivanka, Darwin and Those Darned Market Forces

Ivanka Trump Inc., the merch brand, is over. Ivanka Trump, the woman, continues to command interest, at least as indicated by the press attention she’s garnered since Tuesday, when she announced the shuttering of her company.
Once upon a time, endless coverage and commentary were a good thing — a way of keeping various celebrities in the public eye, their foibles only making them seem more human, like the rest of us. Not any longer. Today, the omnipresence of social media, not only as used by extremists of all stripes, but by thoughtful people determined to function as unofficial watchdogs to those in the public eye, make it harder for bold-faced types to skirt accountability for actions perceived as problematic by significant segments of the population.
Trump is not a self-made person, but one born to having it all. It’s to her credit that from a young age she set out to achieve, and if she did so in part on the strength of the family name and access, so what? So have other accomplished people as diverse as Chelsea Clinton to a generation of the Kardashian-Jenners. Something of an anti-Kardashian (once her teen modeling aspirations passed), Trump didn’t aim for overt look-based

Birkenstock and Berlin Porcelain Maker KPM Join Forces on Limited-Edition Sandal Collection

Strange Bedfellows: On the heels of its most recent collaboration with Rick Owens as well as this year’s assorted Birkenstock Box cooperations with retailers the world over, the footwear maker has tapped a somewhat unlikely royal partner for the latest take on the brand’s iconic Arizona and Gizeh cork footbed sandals: KPM Berlin.
Founded in 1763 and thus 11 years older than Birkenstock, the highly respected Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur provided its Kurland Royal Noir pattern as well as a signature porcelain inset for the limited-edition Birkenstock x KPM. There are four models in all, the Arizona and Gizeh in black-on-black embossed leather, and both models in a black and gold Royal Noir print. Limited to 300 pieces per style, the sandals are available exclusively at Berlin’s leading premium department store KaDeWe through June 9, as well as online at birkenstock.com for 280 euros a pop. For those who’d like to wear their Birkenstocks and have a matching cup of coffee, too, a large-sized KPM Kurland Royal Noir cup and saucer will set one back 1,190 euros.
The special edition was feted Thursday night with a cocktail reception at the third-floor Birkenstock X KPM pop-up shop at KaDeWe, which featured the Birkenstock sandals, items from

Shepard Fairey’s Obey Label Joins Forces With Wildfang to Create the Rise + Riot Capsule Collection

RISING TIDES: Not about to be left behind during this time of great resistance, Obey, an art-infused socially conscious brand, has joined forces with the feminist label Wildfang to create a capsule collection.
The Rise + Riot collection is geared for those who want to fight the system and band together against oppression. In one of the more unexpected descriptions of a collaboration, the line was made as a sign of togetherness and getting angry. Apparently such ire can be found in three graphic T-shirts – cropped, long-sleeved and oversized; a hooded coat; trousers, and a “Dad” hat. Designed to speak for themselves, the garments are imprinted with such self-explanatory hand gestures as shaka, the peace sign, a middle finger, a heart shape and fist. The line launches on Wildfang’s site today and Obey’s on Jan. 15. Obey’s Instagram-driven sales account for 10 percent of the brand’s business.
This marks the first time Obey has collaborated with a women’s brand and executives sought out one with an authentic voice. The timing of the launch was scheduled to coincide with the first anniversary of Donald Trump’s inauguration and the Women’s March. Wild Fang’s creative director Taralyn Thuot said, “We wanted to represent the

Jonathan Anderson Joins Forces Again With Alasdair McLellan

TAKE TWO: Jonathan Anderson packed photographer Alasdair McLellan off to Northern Ireland for their second collaboration on the designer’s Workshops line, a series of monthly collaborations between Anderson and a line-up of fellow creatives that he calls “kindred spirits,” the fruits of which are available at a retail space next to the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, London.
“I love doing [these collaborations] because it’s my micro-project and more about accessibility and the idea of trying to bring a newness of the time in a way that is actually personal to me,” Anderson told WWD. “This shop is an experiment for me, it was always meant to be, we are now embarking on a new year of working with different ceramist, poets, artists, photographers and archives.”
Within this McLellan collaboration are items including T-shirts, key rings, mugs, stickers, puzzles, badges and posters featuring exclusive photographs by him of models and Northern Irish landscapes.

“Alasdair went to Northern Ireland, where I come from, and he shot all the different landmarks that I knew as a kid. The Mourne Mountains, the Giant’s Causeway, the Falls Road…” said Anderson, adding that this was far from McLellan’s first foray into Ireland.

Alber Elbaz, Apple Not Joining Forces

Alber Elbaz and Apple are not joining forces, despite tepid rumors to the contrary.
Sources told WWD that there is no collaboration or business partnership between the well-known designer and the tech powerhouse after speculation appeared in a small European media outlet.
A representative for Apple declined to comment, citing a policy on “rumors.” Reached by phone, Elbaz also declined to comment. While attending the Valentino show in October, WWD asked Elbaz what he was up to lately, but he demurred, saying, “You know, silence is a beautiful thing.”
Elbaz did discuss a bit about Apple and fashion during a 2016 talk with students at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, recounting his experience at the launch party for the Apple Watch and concluding then that the future of fashion was “mixing technology and the humanity and beauty of fashion.”
Elbaz has been keeping busy with various design projects and plenty of speaking engagements since his abrupt and acrimonious 2015 dismissal from Lanvin, where he served as creative director for 14 years and revived the 129-year-old French fashion house. But he seems to be shying away from apparel.
He’s designed a Converse sneaker, released a limited-edition makeup line with Lancôme, created a fragrance with French perfumer Frédéric

Frankel’s B Strong program for women and their families in crisis has teamed with Delivering Good to provide gift cards, bank cards and critical supplies to people affected by the recent hurricanes.
Since Sept. 29, Frankel, the reality TV personality and author, has helped the charity raise more than $ 500,000 for the gift card program, and donations continue to come in. Sonic Forces: Your Custom Character Can’t Be as Cool as Sonic

The upcoming Sonic Forces features a new mode that allows players to become a hero of the game with a custom avatar, but the development team’s approach to the character creator is more simplistic.

As previously announced by Sega, players can choose one of seven animal archetypes to customize for their Hero Character. Sonic Forces Producer Shun Nakamura said, with the help of a translator, that the creator isn’t anywhere near as complex as something like Fallout, but said players will instead get to pick from set characteristics, kind of like a doll maker.

“What the team wanted to have people do is create a regular character that exists in the world and have that character go on this great adventure with classic and modern Sonic and become a hero,” Nakamura said.

Mark Wahlberg Forces Journalists To Reenact Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’ Video Just ‘Cause

Usually it’s the journalists asking things of celebrities, but in this case, Mark Wahlberg turned the tables.

In London for a “Transformers: The Last Knight” press event, Wahlberg recently grouped together some male entertainment writers on the staircase where the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” video was filmed at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

“Sing it live!” the actor orders, after some audio trouble, in a clip posted Saturday by Kevin McCarthy, who reports for a D.C. Fox affiliate. Chris Van Vliet, Andrew Freund, Scott Carty and Xilla Valentine also appear to be doing their best to channel the iconic British girl group.

To see just how well the ragtag boy band nailed it, here’s part of the original with the new footage:

Expect their cover album out never.

Hollywood’s Loudest Trump Naysayers Are Joining Forces

On Friday, The Huffington Post will partner with Funny or Die to promote the 21st-century telethon Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU. The Facebook Live event will gather celebrities to raise money for the American Civil Liberties Union, which has opposed certain of President Donald Trump’s actions since his election.

Packed with beloved A-listers including Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm and Tina Fey, just about every famous person known for speaking out against Trump is going to be there. The full list has not yet been released, but it’s basically a celebrity Trump-resistance supergroup.

The ACLU previously joined forces with Hollywood during the 2017 Oscars, when the organization encouraged major nominees to wear blue ribbons in support of its work “protecting the rights of everyone in America.”

Stand for Rights will begin at 7 p.m. ET on March 31, streaming live in a few places including the Facebook pages of The Huffington Post and Funny Or Die

As of today, the event released a few more names such as “Saturday Night Live” members Cecily Strong and Colin Jost. More names will be made public shortly, but some of the celebrities scheduled to participate are outlined below.

Alec Baldwin, whose name is essentially synonymous with Trump at the moment.

Baldwin debuted his Trump impression on “Saturday Night Live” before the election, but obviously his take is even more relevant now that Trump is president.

Besides frequently tweeting and retweeting anti-Trump messages over Twitter, Baldwin plans to voice an upcoming audiobook as Trump

Tina Fey, who recommended Baldwin for the Trump gig and criticized Trump elsewhere.

”SNL” overlord Lorne Michaels claimed that Fey brought the idea of Baldwin-as-Trump to him.

In an interview with David Letterman for The Hollywood Reporter, Fey elaborated on the Baldwin-Trump connection:

Fey: But I could reassemble them, sir. Did you see that my friend Mr. [Alec] Baldwin is in a Twitter feud with our president-elect? [Baldwin responded to Trump’s complaints about “SNL” parodies of him.]

Letterman: Good for him.

Fey: At one level, it just makes me feel sick for the state of the world because it’s so beneath a president, but also my feeling is: “You think you’re good at being a jerk on Twitter? You will now face the grandmaster of being a jerk on Twitter.”

Amy Poehler, who revived Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation” to contrast the character’s hopeful idealism with Trump’s hateful rhetoric.

Following Trump’s election victory, Poehler wrote a letter as her Leslie Knope character (who kept a picture of Hillary Clinton in her office) encouraging people to donate to the ACLU. Here’s the introduction:

Dear America,

Amidst the confusion, and despair, and disbelief, it was suggested to me by a very close friend of mine (I won’t say her name, to protect her identity) (Ann. It was Ann) that perhaps a few people would enjoy hearing my thoughts on this election. So I sat down at my computer, cleared my head, and opened a document. Then I started crying. So I had some hot chocolate, and my close friend (Ann) rubbed my back for a while, and I got myself together, and sat down. And started crying. Then more Ann comforting me, and more hot chocolate, and back and forth like that for about six hours or so, the chain of hot-chocolate-and-back-rubs only interrupted briefly when I had to run to the store for more hot chocolate packets (“Just give me all of them, all the boxes,” I remember saying, through tears, to a very scared stockroom boy) and now I am ready to go.

Read the full letter here.

Mahershala Ali, who used his SAG Awards acceptance speech to indirectly criticize Trump’s ban on refugees and tone on Muslims.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards occurred shortly after the president signed an executive order banning people from Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. During an acceptance speech for his performance in “Moonlight,” Ali spoke at length about his faith and the value of immigration. Here’s an excerpt from the full speech:

We kind of get caught up in the minutia and the details that make us all different. I think there’s two ways of seeing that: There’s an opportunity to see the texture of that person, the characteristics that make them unique, and then there’s the opportunity to go to war about it, and to say that that person is different than me, and I don’t like you, so let’s battle.

My mother is an ordained minister. I’m a Muslim. She didn’t do backflips when I called her to tell her I converted 17 years ago. But I tell you now ― you put things to the side, and I’m able to see her and she’s able to see me. We love each other. The love has grown. And that stuff is minutia. It’s not that important.

Michael Moore, who was one of the most notable people to predict Trump’s win last year.

Moore predicted all the way back in July that Trump would win the presidency ― a claim that garnered particular attention after the election.

Since then, the filmmaker has inspired more headlines by claiming Trump will get us killed and by referring to him as a “so-called president.” Moore has also used his platform to highlight protests against Trump’s policies and created a blueprint to resistance

Tracy Morgan, who said he’s “going back” into a coma thanks to Trump.

Tracy Morgan was in a coma for about two weeks after a car crash in 2014. Over roughly the last year, the comedian has slowly returned to show business, a path that has included interviews with longtime friends such as Jimmy Fallon.

On the “Tonight Show” in early 2016, Fallon mentioned how strange it must be for Morgan to learn about current events he missed during his recovery. Morgan responded: “Yeah, things are different. Donald Trump is leading in the polls. I’m going back.”

Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Tracy Morgan, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Moore, Padma Lakshmi and a whole host of other stars are teaming up for Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU. Donate now and join us at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, March 31, on Facebook Live. #standforrights2017

Shepard Fairey and Debbie Harry Join Forces for Obey

Two of pop culture’s intrepid forces — Shepard Fairey and Blondie’s Debbie Harry are polishing up a collaboration for the artist’s Obey clothing label next fall.
Forty years to the day that Blondie made its debut at CBGB’s in the East Village, the draw for her indelible style remains intact. Fairey has described Blondie as one of his all-time favorite bands since he discovered them as a kid on pop radio. That interest only intensified as he got into punk and learned more about Blondie’s evolution from the CBGB’s scene with bands like The Ramones, and Talking Heads. Along with always appreciating Blondie’s “stylistic diversity, tackling genres such as rock, girl group, soul, disco, hip-hop and reggae, Fairey has described Harry as “an amazing vocalist, lyricist, style icon, beauty and embodiment of NYC cool.”
“Really excited” about what’s in store for the upcoming Harry-infused special-edition women’s line, Fairey said late last week, “I’ve been a Blondie fan my whole life and have collaborated with them in the past, which has been a dream come true. But working with Debbie on this project has been totally inspiring,” Fairey said. “She’s been very involved and hands-on for the whole process, just another display of her

Eden Sher voices Disney’s first kick-butt princess for Star vs. the Forces of Evil

By her own admission, Eden Sher lives in an almost perpetual state of hyperbole.

“That’s why I always have to try and keep myself in check,” this 24 year-old actress admitted during a recent phone interview. “Otherwise — whenever anyone asks me what I’m working on now — my automatic response is that it’s ‘ … THE BEST THING EVER!’ “

Mind you, it’s easy to understand why this Critics’ Choice winner (Sher took home the Television Award for Best Comedy Supporting Actress in 2013) is so upbeat these days, given the year that Sue Heck (i.e., the character that Eden plays on ABC‘s long-running sitcom, The Middle) has been having. Between the stresses that this college-bound senior has been facing while applying to schools — not to mention being blindsided by a surprise marriage proposal from her boyfriend Darrin — Heck, as a character, has been giving Sher a heck of a lot of fun stuff to play over the past year.

But since The Middle just finished shooting its sixth season this past Friday, Eden is now pouring her over abundance of enthusiasm into her next project, Star vs. the Forces of Evil. Which is this brand-new animated series which will debut on Disney XD tonight at 8 p.m. ET / PT.

“As someone who just loves animation and comic books, I have to say that I have never seen a character like Star Butterfly before. She is Disney’s first-ever kick-butt princess. And I am just thrilled beyond words that they chose me to voice this character,” Sher said.

Mind you, when Eden originally auditioned for this part back in 2013, she wasn’t sure that the show’s producers actually did want her to be the voice of Star. Who’s this wand-toting teenage princess from another dimension who’s been sent to Earth to live with the Diaz family.

“I come from the live-action world. Where if you audition for a part, you typically find out that day — at the absolute latest, by the end of the week — whether or not you got the part,” Sher explained. “So when I went in and auditioned for Star, it kind of killed me that, by the end of that week, they still hadn’t called. Because from the very first second that I got the breakdown for this character, I just loved Star. I so wanted to be the voice of this character. But when I didn’t hear back from Daron (Nefcy, the creator / producer of Star vs. the Forces of Evil), I just assumed that I didn’t get it. So I was like ‘Well, that sucks. It wasn’t me. I guess that it will be someone else.’ And then I just forgot about it.”

But then two months later when Eden found that she had in fact been cast as the voice of Star Butterfly, Sher began bouncing off the walls with glee. Which proved to be a bit of a problem once Eden got in the recording booth.

“You have to understand that this was the very first time that I had voiced a character for animation. So since I didn’t know what the hell I was doing, I began jumping around the booth while I was recording Star’s lines for the pilot. And they actually had to stop this recording session to explain that the mics that they use are so sensitive that they can actually pick up when you’re moving around inside the booth. So I had to then teach myself how to stand still while I was recording Star’s lines. Which is tougher than you might think because Star Butterfly is such an active and awesome character,” Sher enthused.

And clearly animation fans agree with Eden. Given that — just based on the title sequence of this new Disney XD series (which was shown once just before a Disney Television Animation panel got underway at Comic-Con last July but wound up being captured on someone’s iPhone and then get uploaded to YouTube) — Star vs. the Forces of Evil fan art began popping up all over the Internet last Fall.

“I remember coming in for a recording session about that same time and seeing all of this Star fan art up on the walls at Disney Television Animation. And I asked ‘Does stuff like this typically happen before a show officially goes on the air?’ And they told me that this almost never happens. That animation fans usually have to see a few episodes before they then decide whether they want to embrace a new show or not. But in Star vs. the Forces of Evil‘s case, that title sequence was all they needed to see. Once they saw Star & Marco jumping from dimension to dimension, they then realized that this show was going to be something special. Which is when they started sending in all of these drawings of the show’s characters,” Sher stated.

And it wasn’t just animation fans who liked what they saw with Star vs. the Forces of Evil. Disney XD officials were so impressed with the finished episodes of this new animated series that they’d received that they actually renewed Star for Season 2 back on February 12th of this year. Which was a full six weeks before the first episode of Star vs. the Forces of Evil was officially scheduled to air on Disney XD.

“And news like that would have normally freaked me out,” Eden admitted. “But I believe so strongly in this show and the character of Star, who’s this vaguely aggressive girly princess. Honestly, I’ve never identified so much with a cartoon character before. I mean, Star is so much like me in that she’s always wrong. She’s always messing up. But at the same time, this character has such a good heart. Star is fiercely loyal when it comes to her friends and never backs down from a fight. There’s so much going on there. And that’s what makes this character so much fun to voice,” Sher concluded.

“I just wish that — when I was growing up — that there would have been a television show on with a character like Star Butterfly. Because if I were a little girl and had a character like Star that I could have idolized, I would have …,” Eden paused and then laughed. “Well, I probably would have turned out exactly the same. But if there’s a generation of little girls who actually do wind up being inspired by this character that Daron has created, Disney’s first kick-butt princess … Oh boy, I am more than ready for that. I would love to be associated with a project like that. That would be a dream come true for me.”

If you want to see if Sher’s dream really does come true, do check out tonight’s premiere of Star vs. the Forces of Evil. Which airs on Disney XD starting at 8 p.m. ET / PT.
