Tommy Hilfiger to Be Honored at Save the Children Centennial Gala

Tommy Hilfiger will be an honoree at Save the Children’s centennial gala celebration, which will be held over two events this fall in New York and Los Angeles. The designer will receive the organization’s Humanitarian Award during the New York gala on Sept. 12 in recognition of his charitable work across different causes, including youth education, environment and health. His work is particularly well aligned with Save the Children’s mission; in 1995, he founded The Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation with a focus on serving underprivileged youth through educational and cultural programs. In May, the designer was honored by the Fresh Air Fund to mark the 20th anniversary of Camp Tommy, which has provided opportunities for boys ages 13 to 15 from low-income communities in New York to attend outdoor summer camp in Fishkill, N.Y. “By continuing to advocate for the rights of children globally, Tommy Hilfiger has not only become a notable humanitarian figure, but he has built a brand based on corporate responsibility. We’re looking forward to honoring him for those efforts in New York in September,” said Carolyn Miles, ceo of Save the Children, in a statement. Hilfiger joins previously announced Save the Children honorees Camila Cabello, receiving the Voice Award

2019 LACMA Art+Film Gala Honorees Set

if(typeof(jQuery)==”function”){(function($ ){$ .fn.fitVids=function(){}})(jQuery)};

Honorees for the 2019 LACMA Art+Film Gala on Nov. 2 have been set: African-American artist Betye Saar and “Roma” filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón.
LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will continue as co-chairs, and Gucci will continue as presenting sponsor for the event, which last year drew stars including Jared Leto, Kim Kardashian, Dakota Johnson, A$ AP Rocky, Beck, Kiki Layne and Paris Jackson.
Known for her assemblage works, Saar has been a political voice in art since 1972, when she entered a small box containing an “Aunt Jemima” mammy figure wielding a gun, into an open call for black artists at a community center in Berkeley not far from the Black Panther headquarters. Titled “The Liberation of Aunt Jemima,” the piece repositioned a derogatory figure born of America’s racist history as an armed revolutionary, and set a course for Saar’s career exploring the symbolism of everyday objects in the context of African-American oppression.
“Betye Saar is one of the most significant artists working today, and one who boldly addresses issues of race, gender and spirituality,” said LACMA chief executive officer and Wallis Annenberg director Michael Govan in a statement.
“Born in Los Angeles and having sustained a career over seven decades here, Saar

49 Unforgettable Met Gala Red-Carpet Looks

With only weeks to go, designers and A-list stars are heading into crunch time before the 2019 Met Gala.
While the Met Gala has a 71-year history of producing the most over-the-top high-fashion red carpets , this year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” should result in a particularly unexpected red-carpet scene. Met Gala alum such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively and Rihanna are famous for taking the theme head-on. Rihanna for one, all but broke the Internet in 2015 when the red carpet had to be cleared so she could take those iconic steps wearing a yellow, fur-lined Guo Pei cape with a seemingly miles-long train — and let’s not forget her 2018 look for the  “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Image” exhibit: fashion pope.
Before “camp” comes upon us on May 6, WWD is looking back at 49 unforgettable Met Gala looks, from Princess Diana’s risqué John Galliano Dior slipdress to Kim Kardashian’s much-memed Givenchy gown with affixed gloves. Click the gallery above to see them all.

Met Gala 2019: Everything to Know About This Year’s Met Gala

The Met Gala countdown is on.
With less than a month to go to the 71st annual Met Gala, news on attendees, designers and the exhibit itself are coming to light as viewers speculate who will win the red carpet — many guessing Rihanna, yet again — and who will be attending.
This year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” gives fashion designers and celebrities room to experiment with extravagant, avant garde costumes. With Lady Gaga, Blake Lively and Katy Perry confirmed in attendance, we can expect some out-of-this world looks.
From which designers are dressing the red carpet to the Costume Institute’s exhibit itself, here is everything you need to know about this year’s Met Gala.
When and where is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala will be held on May 6 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. While the event is sold out, individual tickets went for $ 35,000 and tables of 10 went for $ 200,000 or $ 300,000.
What is this year’s theme?
In October 2018, it was revealed that this year’s Met Gala theme and Costume Institute exhibit will be “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Andrew Bolton, head curator at the museum, has taken inspiration for the exhibit from Susan Sontag’s instrumental 1964 essay, “Notes on Camp,”

EXCLUSIVE: The Whitney Museum to Honor Michael Bloomberg at Gala and Studio Party

The Whitney Museum of American Art will honor Michael Bloomberg during its annual Gala and Studio Party on April 9.
The centrist politician, who two weeks ago revealed he would not be running for president in 2020, is “a great friend to the Whitney,” according to the museum’s Alice Pratt Brown director Adam D. Weinberg. Bloomberg’s honor stems from his philanthropic work and support for artists and cultural organizations; under his administration spanning 11 years, the founder of Bloomberg LP backed 500 public art projects.
There’s more cause for celebration, though: the gala, which this year will be sponsored by Michael Kors and Audi, marks the four-year anniversary of the museum’s move downtown to the Meatpacking District. Plus folks will be able to celebrate — or perhaps more accurately, mourn — the closing of the oft-Instagrammed exhibit “Andy Warhol — From A to B and Back Again.”
For Kors’ part, he said he’s looking forward to checking out the next thing the museum has to offer.
“I love the building and the fact that there’s always something new and provocative to see,” he said. “Having the Whitney in my backyard is a dream.”

Priyanka Chopra Brought Nick Jonas as Her Date to the Met Gala One Year Before Engagement

Fans may be shocked to learn that Nick Jonas proposed to Priyanka Chopra after just two months of dating, but the couple’s friendship dates back longer than many realize.

A little more than a year before Chopra, 36, and Jonas, 25, started dating, the Quantico actress brought the pop star as her date to the 2017 Met Gala.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chopra opened up about why she accompanied Jonas on the Met red carpet.

“Are you dating Nick Jonas? Isn’t he like, 11 years old?” Kimmel asked the actress.

“We were both wearing Ralph Lauren! And we decided to go together because it was fun,” Chopra replied, shutting down the idea that the pair was a couple.

“Really? Interesting,” Kimmel said skeptically.

“I didn’t ask his age. 11? I did not know that. Good to know,” she quipped back.

Chopra added, “Yeah we were on the same table. We know each other so we were like, ‘Hey you know what, let’s go together.’ And I was like, ‘Okay. Let’s go together!’ It just ended up working out.”

A source confirmed to PEOPLE Chopra and Jonas got engaged a week ago while celebrating her 36th birthday in London after two months together.

Jonas closed down a Tiffany & Co. store in New York City to buy an engagement ring, according to the insider.

“They are so happy,” the source says. A Jonas source tells PEOPLE the singer is “very, very happy.”

“His friends and family have never seen him like this, and they’re all really excited for him. He’s definitely very serious about her,” the source says.

An insider previously told PEOPLE Jonas and Chopra stayed in touch after hitting it off last year but things really heated up between the pair when they introduced each other to their families.

The couple began dating in May 2018 (one year after their Met Gala meet cute) and by June, Jonas had already introduced Chopra to his family at his cousin Rachel Tamburelli’s wedding in New Jersey. At the ceremony were Nick’s brothers Frankie and Kevin Jonas, who was accompanied by his wife Danielle, as well as their mother Denise and father Kevin Sr.

“It’s a huge deal that Nick brought Priyanka to his cousin’s wedding,” a Jonas pal previously told PEOPLE of the duo. “He’s dated a lot over the last couple years but it’s never been anything serious, so this is a big step. Nick and Priyanka really like each other, and his family enjoyed getting to know her as well. She fit right in!”

Kim, Kendall, and Kylie take the Met!

Keeping Up with the Kardashians stars Kim Kardashian West, Kendall JennerKylie Jenner and mom Kris Jenner appeared to have a ball at Monday’s 2018 Met Gala, walking the red carpet of the Costume Institute’s annual benefit and sharing a slew of selfies from inside the ball.

Meanwhile, all three reality stars looked glam on fashion’s biggest night out.

Though all seemed to skip the over-the-top couture designer duds that stars like Cardi B, Rihanna, and Katy Perry costumed themselves in for the event’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme, the KarJenners found their own way to stand out.

Kardashian West, 37, looked like liquid gold in her custom chainmail Versace dress featuring crosses embroidered on the bodice and hip. She teamed the look with double cross necklaces, super long extensions and a Cleopatra-like makeup look featuring a smokey cat eye and a very ’90s over-lined lip that would make co-host Donatella Versace  proud.

Kendall, 22, rocked an off-the-shoulder ruched couture top with sheer elbow-length gloves and matching “long train” couture pants designed for her by close friend, Off-White creative director Virgil Abloh.

The model was “reminiscent of an angelic cloud sought to signify Roman Catholicism in renaissance art – embodying purity and delicacy of a modern angel,” according the release sent by the brand.

“We were all so nerve-wracked because it was such a big moment, but she killed it,” makeup artist Ariel Tejada told PeopleStyle of her look. “It’s refreshing for somebody to walk onto a carpet looking refreshed and glowing and just ready to take on the event.”

2018 Cannes Film Festival: Vanessa Redgrave and Sienna Miller Among Hosts at AmfAR Gala

WOMAN’S HOUR: Female directors may have gotten short shrift in the official lineup of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, with only three women-helmed films in competition, but amfAR’s annual Cinema Against AIDS gala should help make up for it.
The non-profit organization said on Tuesday it has selected 25 women from the worlds of fashion and film to be the honorary chairs of the event’s 25th edition, to be held at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes on May 17.
They include Sienna Miller and Vanessa Redgrave — both vocal supporters of the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements — Katy Perry, Aishwarya Rai, Heidi Klum, Linda Evangelista, Angela Missoni and Donatella Versace.
The theme of this year’s Carine Roitfeld-curated benefit fashion show, starring 40 top models in one-of-a-kind looks from a range of brands, will be “And Woman Created All.”
‪Grammy Award-winning artist Pharrell Williams‪ will be the night’s headlining act.

Anna Wintour Will Be Honored at Annual LGBT Center Gala

Anna Wintour will be honored for her contributions to the LGBT community next month at the annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center gala dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
The center will recognize the publishing doyenne at their April 19 event with the Trailblazer Award for her “unwavering support and encouragement of the LGBTQ community within both the fashion and media industries,” according to the organization.
Last year, The Center honored Hillary Clinton at the fund-raiser, which brought in more than $ 1.75 million to support its various programs. Marc Jacobs was also honored with the organization’s Visionary Award, explaining how Wintour’s Met Gala gives him a certain level of social anxiety each year.
“It feels a little weird to be recognized when I just see myself as being true to myself,” Jacobs said. “The night [of the Met Gala] itself gives me a little bit of anxiety, but every social situation does. I’m really awkward socially.”
The center was founded in 1983 and from its West Village headquarters provides critical health and welfare services to the LGBT community.

Charlize Theron, Brie Larson Attend Porter’s Incredible Women Gala 2017

Porter, Net-a-porter’s print magazine, on Wednesday held its second annual Incredible Women Gala at NeueHouse West Hollywood, in association with Estée Lauder. Hosted by editor in chief Lucy Yeomans and Universal chairman Donna Langley, the event drew Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, Elizabeth Banks, Mary J. Blige, Melanie Griffith, Raquel Welch, Kate Bosworth and more.
The Incredible Women list, now in its third year, grew out of a cover line on Porter’s first issue. It has since spawned a talk series that began with Christy Turlington Burns in 2014 and has included American Ballet Theater principal dancer Misty Copeland, film director Sofia Coppola and Serpentine chief executive officer Yana Peel. The first gala was held last year in London at the V&A Museum.
Partnering with Langley, who was profiled in the magazine in the past, made sense since this year’s list of 50 women was focused on the entertainment industry. The timing of this year’s gala comes when women in the industry have banded together in support of speaking out against sexual harassment. The magazine commissioned women including Copeland, Larson and the organizers of the Women’s March, Tamika Mallory and Bob Bland, to write open letters touching upon crucial issues facing women in

When Chrissy Teigen Isn’t At The Met Gala, She Just Wants To Watch ‘Really Bad Television’

Of all the celebrities in Hollywood, Chrissy Teigen ranks pretty high on the list of those you’d want to share a drink with.

Unfortunately, it was only 11 a.m. when HuffPost sat down with the 31-year-old model, cookbook author and social media darling as she promoted her new partnership with Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka.

Teigen was her usual candid self, telling HuffPost she’s a vodka soda kind of girl, because “when I’m drinking, I want to drink” and “honestly, I’m not good at the shaking.”

She’s a “big fan of anything pretty unpretentious,” which is definitely the vibe of the series of commercials she shot for Smirnoff

Teigen is relatable, and that’s the reason so many people adore her. On evenings she’s not wearing a Marchesa gown to the Met Gala, she and husband John Legend know how to do nights in right.

“I love watching ‘Black Mirror.’ We sit down, we kind of love to binge-watch TV shows,” she said. “I just finished watching ‘13 Reasons Why.’ I love to be able to cook and see the television from the kitchen and, you know, have a good drink in my hand and just enjoy the night together by way of really bad television.”

Tweets like the one above, which garnered close to 40,000 likes, make Teigen even more accessible, as her inner monologue is consistently being broadcast to fans.

A perfect example of this: After a drink-filled night at the Grammys, Teigen tweeted out a clip of herself making ramen and posted a video on Snapchat of Legend helping her remove her jewelry.

Not surprisingly, those drunken posts were a big hit with her followers. But Teigen told HuffPost she’s careful not to make it a habit.

“I don’t say anything that’s going to get me into trouble, unless it’s something that I very much believe in,” she said. “But no, no drunken tweeting. Snapchat can be really fun because people see that they are a part of your life.”

She continued, “But even then you still need to keep in mind that you need to be a good example for everybody and you never want to say anything that’s going to hurt anybody. Just always know that these things are forever.”

Never change, Chrissy.

Zendaya Totally Lost It After Rihanna Praised Her Met Gala Look On Instagram

Following Monday night’s annual Met Gala, everyone on the internet seemingly agreed that Rihanna had won the night. But the pop star, who soaked up the compliments, had some love to spare for fellow fashionista Zendaya

RiRi shared a stunning image on Instagram of the Disney star walking up the Met steps in her gorgeous yellow gown, with the caption, “Brown goddess.”

Like any normal human would react if Rihanna sang your praises, Zendaya promptly freaked out.

She commented on Ri’s photo, thanking her “a million times over” and telling her, “I appreciate you so much,” according to Elle. Then, she took to Snapchat, where she really let her emotions out.

“This is not a drill!” she alerted her fans. “I never thought a post could mean so much to me in all my life.”

Everything You Need to Know About Kylie Jenner’s Epic Met Gala Bathroom Mirror Selfie

Another day, another epic celebrity selfie to dissect.

Today’s masterpiece? The glorious Monday night Met Gala bathroom mirror selfie that united a motley crew of reality stars, models, actors and artists, snapped by none other than the selfie queen herself, Kylie Jenner.

First things first: If you’re wondering who’s who, we’ve got you covered.

Now, what else is there to know about the shot? Let’s unpack this bad boy.

It’s against the rules.

In 2015, the Met, Vogue and Anna Wintour set in place a strict “no-selfie” rule at the annual Costume Institute Gala, stating that the use of phones for photography and social media was not permitted inside the event. So basically, this work of art is fashion contraband.

But that doesn’t really stop anyone.

Like, at all. In 2015 and every year since, celebrities and famous attendees have shamelessly violated the no-selfie ordinance. Last night was no exception: Kim Kardashian West basically provided a play-by-play of the evening on Snapchat, and a slew of stars stormed the bathroom for pictures — some even snapping a few inside the main room.

Brie Larson was really excited about it.

“I needed to go to the bathroom and ended up famous,” the Oscar winner captioned the picture on Instagram.

There’s another angle.

Yup, Kylie wasn’t the only one brandishing an iPhone in there. Sophia Li, an entertainment media editor at Vogue, also uploaded her own version of the group shot, posing alongside model Slick Woods.

Kendall Jenner and A$ AP Rocky are totally a thing.

Not only did they basically spend the whole night glued at the hip and hit the afterparties together, but sisters Kim and Kylie even caught the lovebirds sharing some alone time together at one point.

Paris Jackson is having a moment.

Well, we already knew that. But in case you needed further proof that she’s “homies” with her selfie neighbors, here’s a Boomerang of her dabbing with A$ AP and Ashton Sanders.

Supermodels will be supermodels.

Whether it’s a Vogue photoshoot or a bathroom selfie, Lily Aldridge treats every photo op like the Victoria’s Secret Runway.

Frank Ocean looks adorable when he smiles.

Duck face never dies.

And Kim K. is living proof of that.

Sarah Paulson Lost Her Mind When She Saw Madonna At The Met Gala

Everyone who’s anyone attends fashion’s biggest night on the first day of May in New York City.

And, you know, Madonna is someone.

So, obviously she’d be climbing the grand staircase at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2017 Met Gala. Sarah Paulson was, clearly, just unaware of that fact.

Hahaahhahahhaahahha Love you Sarah! ♥️

A post shared by Madonna (@madonna) on

The Emmy-winning actress fangirled out when she spotted a camouflaged Madge on the carpet, pointing at the singer with her mouth agape.

Luckily, Madonna loved it.

Following the photobomb, Madonna enthusiastically took to Instagram to share the image, writing, “Love you Sarah!”

These two shared the moment of the night.

New York City Ballet’s Unity Phelan Counting on Milly for Gala Dress

MILLY AT THE BARRE: As a former dancer and the mother of one enrolled in the School of American Ballet, Milly designer Michelle Smith’s alliance with New York City Ballet’s Unity Phelan is not about keeping up appearances.
Phelan, who became the NYCB’s youngest soloist last year, will wear a customized Milly dress at the NYCB’s Spring Gala on May 4. Smith met Phelan through the dancer’s boyfriend, Cameron Dieck, at a fund-raiser for the School of American Ballet. “He was seated next to me. He is a really nice guy and such a good dancer. He said, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re Milly. You have to meet my girlfriend Unity. She’s beautiful and she would look amazing in your clothes,’” Smith said. “He introduced us right there at the event and we all just became friends.”
Smith invited Phelan, who earned acclaim in Christopher Wheeldon’s “American Rhapsody” last year, to visit her showroom to check out her dresses and fabrics. “We’re very comfortable together so it was rather informal. Cameron came up with her,” Smith said. As of Thursday, the dancer was deciding between a black sheer organza silk coupe motif with a plunging halter neckline with a large billowy skirt and

More than one month after Alan Thicke‘s sudden death, the late star’s son Robin Thicke is set to honor his father at the upcoming NHL100 Gala taking place during NHL All-Star Weekend, PEOPLE confirms exclusively.

According to a press release, Robin — who is currently in a contentious custody battle with ex-wife Paula Patton — will give “special heartfelt remarks” and introduce Five for Fighting’s Jon Ondrasik, who will perform and pay tribute to the late members of the 100 greatest players of the NHL.

After Alan’s death on Dec. 13, Robin, 39, told the Los Angeles Times his father was “the greatest man I ever met.”

The Growing Pains star – who suffered a fatal heart attack while playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter —will also be honored over the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend during the All-Star Celebrity Shootout event, a hockey game pitting a team of NHL stars against celebrities from film, television and music.

Jourdan Dunn on Her Two Met Gala 2016 Balmain Looks: ‘I Felt Really Good About Myself’

If you thought Jourdan Dunn killed it with her two Met Gala looks—both by Balmain—you’re not the only one. The British model herself agrees with you. “Last night I felt really good about myself,” she told PeopleStyle when we caught up with her on the set of a campaign shoot today. She paired the look with Stuart Weitzman heels and Eva Fehren jewelry.

Jourdan Dunn Met Gala 2016David Fisher/REX/Shutterstock; Kevin Mazur/Getty

Dunn fell right in line with the night’s overall trend: Bold silver gowns with a robot-like inspiration, a perfect fit for the Met Gala’s theme of ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.’ Kim Kardashian, Kylie Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Cindy Crawford, Alessandra Ambrosio and Doutzen Kroes joined Dunn in wearing Balmain and, together, they walked the carpet as the #BalmainArmy, a hashtag the fashion house created in the past (and has stuck as a way to describe fans of the brand).

Instagram Photo

For Dunn’s look, she worked directly with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing. “Olivier sent two sketches—one was a short one and one was a long one,” she explained. “I was drawn to the long one, I thought it was amazing. When I had my fitting for it, it all came together.” As soon as her glam squad got a whiff of the direction, they suggested she pair the look with gray, silvery hair. “I thought it was a cool idea,” she said.

Instagram Photo

But despite the fact that she looked calm and collected in all of the photos, she admitted it’s actually a very nerve-wracking experience. “There are people everywhere, like waiting for you to walk out of your hotel and then all the paparazzi,” she said. “ It’s huge. So I was in the car, and I was nervous. But once I got on the red carpet, I just had to own it and feel myself.”

Instagram Photo

RELATED PHOTOS: Every Gorgeous Gown at the 2016 Met Gala

It’s a long way that she’s come from her first gala appearance in 2009 (below, with Karlie Kloss). “I remember when I first attended seven years ago, I felt so out of place and like I shouldn’t really be there,” she said. “Now I feel I do deserve to be here, I’ve worked hard. I like being in that mind frame.”

Jourdan Dunn First Met Gala LookErik C. Pendzich/REX/Shutterstock

After the gala concluded, Dunn slipped into a black sequined mini Balmain to head downtown to the Gilded Lily after-party. “The second look is all about being able to move and dance and just feel good,” she said. “With a Balmain dress, sometimes that’s a bit impossible because they’re so structured. But in my fitting, Olivier wanted to make sure I was able to move. It’s all about something fun and be able to move and get down in and look good in.”

But she didn’t change in the car. “Some people do that but I went back to my hotel, chilled, refreshed my makeup and changed really quick and headed out,” she said. (And no, the Army did not travel together.)

RELATED PHOTOS: The Biggest Trends at the 2016 Met Gala

So, how can regular people get into the #BalmainArmy? There’s no boot camp, unfortunately, she said. “I don’t know how I became a member,” she added, “but I’m happy to be in the army.”

How Many Fashion Robots Showed Up to the Met Gala Wearing Anna Wintour’s Bob? Let’s Investigate

It wasn’t too long ago that Taylor Swift showed up to the Grammy Awards with a new Anna Wintour-inspired bob — and at this year’s technology-themed Met Gala, she wasn’t the only one paying homage to the host of the night. Swift, Kylie Jenner, and Michelle Williams all hit the red carpet wearing hairstyles oh-so-similar to Wintour’s.

met gala bobsGetty (4)

Sure, Swift’s banged bob has transformed into a platinum, textured look since we first saw it just a few months ago — but with her sleek bangs still intact, her style continues to remain very much in line with Wintour’s signature hairstyle.

RELATED PHOTOS: 10 Stars Who’ve Rocked Anna Wintour’s Bob-and-Bangs Look

So after the singer had such success pulling it off, it’s no surprise that Kylie Jenner and Michelle Williams wanted to take the look for a spin as well. Williams showed up with a new haircut, which fell somewhere between Swift and Wintour’s looks. With short, choppy bangs and messy texture, she gave the style an edgy-yet-classy vibe that worked perfectly with her navy v-neck mini-dress and combat boots.

And Jenner showed up to her first Met Gala red carpet, revealing a sleek black bob similar to one we’ve seen before on the reality star — except this time, it’s shorter (!!) and parted perfectly to the side, instead of down the middle. However, she didn’t go full-Wintour: although the obligatory bangs were nowhere to be seen, that’s not to say she’ll never give it a try, as she recently snapped a similar banged bob on Instagram.

Kim K, Kanye, Madonna And Other Stars Put On A Show In Mesmerizing Met Gala Videos

The 2016 Met Gala saw celebrities like Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Beyoncé and Madonna strut their stuff up the Metropolitan Museum steps in an array of high-fashion looks (and a whole lot of sequins) on Monday night.

But our favorite part of this year’s annual event had to be these video portraits released by Vogue on Instagram. Each clip shows a different celebrity dancing, swaying or simply posing in a black hallway with fluorescent tube lights, and every single one says so much about each celebrity’s personality.

From Madonna’s dancing to Kim and Kanye’s sensual stares, the clips really are ridiculously mesmerizing.

Rita Ora Shuts Down ‘Becky’ Rumors With Beyoncé Selfie At The Met Gala

Well, that’s one way to quash rumors.

Rita Ora seemingly confirmed that she is not “Becky with the good hair” by snapping a selfie with Beyoncé at the 2016 Met Gala on Monday night. Better yet, Queen Bey is smiling in the photo (captioned “Family”), further proving that things are OK between the two.

This is probably the most important career move Ora has ever made, as it means the Beyhive will finally get off her back.

The “Black Widow” singer came under attack last week after wearing a lemon bralette the day Beyoncé released “Lemonade” and a necklace that looked like a “J.” (It’s actually an “R.”) Ora further increased speculation when she stepped out in the same Gucci outfit Bey wears in her “Formation” video.

After the Beyhive struck, Ora took to Twitter to clarify that she wasn’t “Becky.”

If you didn’t believe her tweets then, you probably believe them now.

Kanye West Goes on Delighted Twitter Rant About Met Gala ‘Best Dressed’ Honor: ‘It’s the Grammys of Style!’

A happy Kanye West Twitter rant? We never thought we’d see the day.

The rapper was so elated to read he and wife Kim Kardashian West were among the Met Gala‘s Best Dressed Couple according to Vogue, that he couldn’t help but publicly share the news.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Andrew H. Walker/REX/Shutterstock

Taking to his favorite social media app, Kanye wrote, “I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style!”

Like many other of the lavish evening’s guests, Kim and Kanye approached the Manus x Machina theme with sequins and sparkle. The couple both wore pieces designed by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, with Kim going “blingy sexy robot” in her form-fitting gown. Kanye was decidedly dressed down in ripped Fear of God denim (which go for $ 895) and an intricately embellished jacket — paired with an icy pair of blue contact lenses.

In the past, Kanye has made Vogue‘s best dressed list for the annual ball solo — even once included in a photograph with Kim strategically cropped out.

VIDEO: Tim Gunn Slams the Kardashian Family for Their ‘Distasteful’ Style, Calls Kanye West’s Fashion Line ‘Dumb’

“Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team,” West continued on Twitter, before revealing that Kim’s look was the product of some scissor action. “Thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half and thank you for turning my personal jean jacket into a couture piece. Also to Kim’s hair and makeup Lorraine jewelry and the whole style squad at Balmain and the Yeezy team.”

Kim isn’t afraid to hack away at her designer duds, once crafting a co-ordinating crop and skirt from a Dior pink dress. We can’t quite pinpoint what parts of the reality star’s look were dissected, but can imagine the sartorial snipping was meant to show off Kim’s post-baby figure.

Nevertheless, Kanye said the pair had “fun with the ‘future’ theme.”

“It was a fun night all together,” he tweeted.

Among the night’s other perfect pairings? Gigi Hadid in custom Tommy Hilfiger with Zayn Malik in Versace, and Hannah Davis in Zuhair Murad Couture with Derek Jeter.

Do you think Kim and Kanye were the best dressed couple? Tell us in the comments.

Claire Danes’ Met Gala Dress Completely Transformed With The Lights Off

Claire Danes, red carpet vet, has worn her fair share of stunning dresses. But none has ever been this magical.

Danes was truly the belle (er, Cinderella) of the ball at the Met Gala Monday night, floating around the carpet in a stunning pale blue ball gown with both designer Zac Posen and husband Hugh Dancy in tow.

But lest you think this was just any ordinary ball gown, once the lights went out, it transformed faster than you can say “bibbity bobbity boo.”

Danes’ gown, which was custom made by Posen, turned into a magical, sparkly, glow-in-the-dark piece of artwork in the dark, thanks to the fiber optics woven into the organza it was made with. The look was a perfect choice for the theme of the event, which examined the relationship between fashion and technology.

Posen teased out who was wearing the dress with a number of Instagram posts before making the big reveal later in the evening.

Dior Returns as Sponsor of the Guggenheim International Gala

For the third consecutive year, Dior is sponsoring the Guggenheim International Gala in New York. The two-night art party, known as the GIG, supports the museum’s operations, including exhibitions, educational programs and the landmark building. To be held Nov. 4 and 5, the first night is a pre-party — read: younger, hipper — hosted by the Young Collectors Council that will feature a performance by Grimes, the Canadian producer, singer and songwriter also known as Claire Boucher, whose fourth album is due out this fall. The second night is a benefit dinner  honoring artists On Kawara (in memoriam) and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, both the subjects of recent exhibitions, and Colombian artist Doris Salcedo, whose work is on view at the museum through Oct. 12.
Since coming on as a sponsor, Dior has infused the GIG with a new energy. In 2013 DJ Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman) performed at the pre-party. Last year, it was British indie band The xx.

Rihanna’s Met Gala Dress Designer Didn’t Actually Want Her to Wear It

Chinese couturier Guo Pei became an international fashion superstar the moment Rihanna took her first step on the Met Gala red carpet in May—but if the designer had her way, RiRi wouldn’t have worn it at all.

“I actually didn’t think the dress was the right one for her,” Guo told WWD. “I thought it would be too heavy and too hot, but she was so touched the moment she put it on.”

Bad-gal RiRi knows what works for her, though. The embroidered cape with fur trim and mile-long train was arguably the most photographed—and talked-about—dress of fashion’s biggest night. Pei revealed that the cape weighs 55 pounds and took nearly two years to make. Talk about conviction!

Apollo Theater Celebrates Its Rich Legacy With 10th Annual Spring Gala

Monday night marked the 10th anniversary of the Apollo Theater’s annual Spring Gala, which was met with much fanfare.

The event, which featured a celebratory benefit concert, was hosted by Extra TV correspondent AJ Calloway and featured star-studded performances from Nile Rodgers and his pioneering disco-funk group Chic, Ne-Yo, Luke James, Rosanne Cash, “The Voice” season 8 contestant Kimberly Nichole and South African a capella trio The Soil.

During his opening monologue, Calloway shared some of his personal experiences and memories of the Apollo.

“I used to sneak into the Apollo when I was in high school,” Calloway said. “I was in [New] Jersey, my parents didn’t know I was here, but I used to watch Amateur Night so I’m very happy to be on this stage. And I started my career here. The first time I was on this stage was ‘106 & Park’ and that was 15 years ago. So I’m really, really happy to be here.”

In addition to Calloway’s return to the Apollo stage, the event also served as a homecoming for Rodgers, who landed his second professional gig performing with the theater’s house band. Prior to taking to the stage to perform a medley of Chic’s biggest hits, Rodgers opened up to The Huffington Post about the significance of headlining this year’s annual gala.

“When I played here I was 19-years-old,” Rodgers said. “I had just finished a year with ‘Sesame Street,’ which was my first professional job. And I was just telling the band how it was the first time I walked out onto this stage. It’s amazing for me to be here now, all these years later playing my own music, which is crazy.”

For Apollo Theater President & CEO, Jonelle Procope the Gala has served as an important part in the theater’s growth for the past 10 years.

“Although the Apollo is now in its 81st year, we have only been a nonprofit since 1991 and I would say it has really been over the last 10 years that the institution has experienced tremendous growth as a nonprofit with expanded artistic, educational and community programs,” Procope said to the Huffington Post.

“The Gala, which is one of our largest fundraisers, has provided crucial support toward those initiatives. It also allows us to celebrate and honor the Apollo’s rich legacy as the musical home for so many legendary artists like Nile Rodgers and the opportunity to continue that legacy as an important springboard for the next generation of artists.”

The benefit, which raises funds for the theater’s education and community outreach programs, also honored James Dolan, President and CEO of Cablevision Systems Corporation and Executive Chairman of Madison Square Garden, who accepted the Corporate Award on behalf of The Madison Square Garden Company, and Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, who accepted the Percy C. Sutton Civic Leadership Award on behalf of The Ford Foundation.

An Exclusive Peek Inside This Year’s Tony Awards Gala

Answer: Party at the Plaza Hotel into the wee hours!

Question: This Sunday at the American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards, after the last circular medallion is handed out at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, what happens next?

For the fifth year, the nominees, presenters and other VIPs hightail it to the famous and historic Plaza Hotel for a Tony gala for the ages. “We’re the only event that takes over the entirety of the Plaza Hotel including the Todd English Food Court, the Palm Court and the Terrace Room. That makes it very special,” says Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League, which presents the Tony Awards along with the American Theatre Wing.

This year’s theme is Marie Antoinette with shades of pink, flowers and crystal galore. “It’s very Versailles-looking, which certainly matches the decor of the Plaza,” says St. Martin. In fact, the shindig has been in the works for an entire year. As Heather Hitchens, president of the American Theatre Wing explains, “The Tonys is June 7. On June 8, we begin planning next year’s Tonys.”

The glam Tony gala is a collaboration of 24 different businesses. So what can the partygoers expect at this year’s gala? For a preview of the big night (from 1,800 glasses of champagne to 1,500 pieces of shrimp), click on this story at

9 Met Gala Dresses You Won’t Appreciate Until You See Them From the Back

Hate to see her go but love to watch her leave was another trend at Monday’s Met Gala. Stylish celebs went all out with trains and many of them, like Sarah Jessica Parker, had helpers to get them and their elaborate trains climb up those epic stairs. “I’m on train duty,” said SJP’s date Andy Cohen, who dutifully followed her with a helping hand. Lady Rihanna had no fewer than three people lifting her showstopping Guo Pei cloak. When asked about the challenges of wearing the look, Rihanna, who seemed to take all her might to get to the top, exclaimed “It’s heavy!”.

Beyonce, who arrived more than an hour after all the guests had settled into dinner inside, had stylist Ty Hunter following her every sashay, arranging her jewel-encrusted tulle train just so. Kim Kardashian’s feathered confection didn’t fare quite as well. While Kanye carefully helped her up the steps, her train left a trail of white feathers in her path. Kind of fitting for Kim, who always leaves her mark. Be sure to see all the dresses here.

Here’s What Really Happens on the Met Gala Red Carpet…

Monday night’s Met Gala has given us months, and possibly years, of good fashion fodder. But beyond the gorgeous dresses, don’t you wonder what that majestic red carpet is really like? Well, we found out just for you. Read on for the inside scoops and surprises of fashion’s biggest night.

larry-davidLarry David (Larry David!?) was an early arrival. While most men and women in glittering gowns took their sweet time to sashay up the vertiginous steps, David galloped up them in the blink of an eye. No interviews or posing for him. If we knew any better, we would have clocked his time. We’re on it for next year.

hannah-davis-derek-jeterHannah Davis, here with boyfriend Derek Jeter, looked like she was poured into her crimson J. Mendel, but actually, the dress fit Davis like a glove. No tailoring required. “I went up to Vogue and it just fit perfectly,” the dishy model told us.

joel-mchale-karlie-klossHow did comedian Joel McHale prep for his first-ever Met Gala? He jokes, “I waxed all the hair off my body, then the microdermabrasion, then a large bath, full of whole milk and some vanilla,” he told us. Oh, he also joked that he delivered nine kittens in the car on the way to the museum. “I cut the umbilical cords; it was amazing. Smelled terrible but amazing.”

At Met Gala, ‘HONY’ Photographer Shoots Pics Of Catering Staff And Others Who Don’t Get A Spotlight

Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind the immensely popular Humans of New York site, has a special talent for getting strangers to open up to him. And while he usually prefers to shoot and interview ordinary people he encounters on the streets of the city — so far, he’s photographed more than 5,000 New Yorkers — last night, he focused his lens on one of the most extraordinary events in Manhattan: the Met Gala. Unsurprisingly, while there was no shortage of star power at the ball, Stanton’s interest remained in those whose faces and names you don’t know off the top of your head.

Saturday Night’s Chicest: See the Best Dressed at the Palm Springs Gala

Saturday night was super chic for some of Hollywood’s brightest, with the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala rolling out the first red carpet of note for 2015. There were fun frocks and elegant gowns, and I’ll admit: It was all a little more glam than the ripped jeans and moto boots I was wearing last night.

Reese Witherspoon picked a pearl-embroidered Michael Kors dress that, while slightly more luxurious than classic polka dots, had all the same cheer. The print’s an eternal favorite, but it can read too juvenile if done with frills and bows. Reese’s sharp sleeves keep it utterly grown-up.
Bright dresses like this vivid red-orange pick are sure to stand out—how stunning does Julianne Moore look? By now you probably know I’m an off-the-shoulder addict too, so this one especially wowed me.
Pregnant Blake Lively and Jessica Biel have been showing us major maternity style, and I’m happy that now we have Rosamund Pike to show perfect just-after-baby dressing. She welcomed a little one almost exactly one month ago and for her red carpet return, rocked a trapeze dress with a high hemline for a sexy flash of leg.
We watched The Theory of Everything this weekend (so good!), so I’m feeling especially in love with Felicity Jones. This elegant navy-and-black Monique Lhuillier was divine, and I sincerely hope there were no elevators around…
I guess I really have something for dresses that show shoulders, because Renee Bargh’s sleek pick was perfect to me. Rich velvet feels especially now, and the contrast of the high neck and below-the-knee hemline with those spots of skin is fantastic.

Which was your favorite? Anyone else obsessed with off-the-shoulder shirts and dresses too?

Booked for the Evening Gala: Newark Public Library

During a brisk October evening this past fall in downtown Newark, NJ, guests came out to attend a fundraising benefit for The Newark Public Library entitled “Booked For The Evening” and to celebrate The Library’s 125th Anniversary as one of the city’s premiere educational and cultural public institutions.

The Newark Public Library has served as an historical landmark anchored in the heart of the community for over 100 years, providing patrons and citizens with free resources and information to serve their needs, ideas, dreams and hopes.

Over many decades, the Library has welcomed residents from across the country and the world, serving as a global catalyst to help residents cultivate successful personal and professional lives. Currently, the City of Newark is embarking upon a new millennium resurgence of renewal and growth. With a newly elected mayor in office, The Honorable Ras J. Baraka, the city is undergoing rapid and innovative development. The Library is responding in kind to these progressive advancements. “In this environment, we are conscious of the changing needs of our patrons and we continually strive to grow and evolve to meet those needs…” says Wilma Grey, Director, Newark Public Library.

At the Booked for the Evening gala, the Library honored Newark native, Mikki Taylor, for her outstanding professional achievements. Ms. Taylor currently serves as the Editor-At-Large for Essence Magazine and is also an accomplished businesswoman, author and television personality. She is a highly sought after speaker who offers a message of empowerment that encourages women to own their lives, walk in their God-given gifts and honor their purpose. Born and raised in Newark, Ms. Taylor “is proud of this great city where her dreams were nurtured and her purpose began. She is proud to be celebrated by the Newark Public Library where she spent many of her childhood years preparing for her future.”

The evening’s special guest keynote speaker was Arianna Huffington, who is known internationally as the chair, president and editor-in-chief of the online news magazine, The Huffington Post, as well as for her extraordinary success in the field of politics and media. In addition to honoring Ms. Taylor, Arianna discussed her book Thrive, the third metric of redefined success and the need to live a well-balanced life which includes meditating and getting enough rest to prevent burnout so you can live and perform at an optimal level. Guests were gifted with signed copies of the book.

In closing out the evening, Newark Public Library Board of Trustees member Timothy J. Crist noted that the generous supporters of the event “give new energy and hope for the work that lies ahead…in continuing the Library’s mission of expanding horizons and changing lives.”
