Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Adds New ‘Dream Events’

While most of the mini-games you’ll find in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, coming this November, are (relatively) grounded in reality, three new “Dream Events” are being added to the rotation.

The new Dream Events include “Dream Shooting,” “Dream Karate,” and “Dream Racing.”

In Dream Shooting, you’ll run around a Japanese manor shooting targets and giant flying kites to score points. In Dream Racing, you’ll grab a hoverboard (much like Sonic Riders) and hurtle your way downhill while doing aerial tricks, grinding rails, and collecting Mario Kart-style powerups. In Dream Karate, you’ll try to take down opponents on a large platform that lights up in individual sections. Whenever an enemy falls by your hand, that section of the platform will light up with your team’s color, and whoever dominates the most space on the platform wins.

Until Dawn Developer’s Dark Pictures Anthology Is Planned for 8 Games

The Dark Pictures Anthology, which opens with Man of Medan this August, is currently planned for eight games, with a release schedule of two per year.

Dark Pictures is a multi-game horror anthology created by Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games. Every game in the anthology will be a new story in a new horror genre, with the only major aspect tying them together being The Curator, a mysterious figure cut from the same cloth as Rod Serling in the Twilight Zone, or the Crypt Keeper in Tales from the Crypt.

In an interview with Supermassive CEO Pete Samuels, I asked what the plan for the Curator is: “We have an arc in mind that plays out over eight games. He’s really the only consistency across the Anthology. Everything else from a story, character perspective, we want to be a surprise.”

Sega Announces Four New Games Based on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Sega has announced four new games based on the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

The first of these is titled Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game, which will be released in Japan and Asia this summer for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and worldwide in 2020. Sega describes this as “a fun-filled sports action game where you can create your own avatar and compete in Olympic Games events with people around the world.” Rather than featuring Sonic or other characters, it appears to have a more realistic – if simplistic – art style.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will then hit Nintendo Switch during winter 2019. From the footage and screenshots released, it appears to be similar to previous Mario & Sonic titles release by Sega at previous Olympics, with a collection of mini games themed around different sports, and will make use of the Joy-Con features. As with the Rio Olympics title, there will also be an Arcade Edition launching at a similar time, which will use physical inputs such as jumping.

Meghan Markle Surprises Fans with Emotional Speech at Invictus Games’ Closing Ceremony

The Invictus Games concluded Saturday with a speech from its founder Prince Harry — and an unscheduled one from his new wife Meghan Markle.

The couple both addressed the crowd in Sydney, Australia, thanking the veterans and wounded service members whom the Paralympics-style competition honors for their strength and sense of humor.

For the occasion, the Duchess of Sussex, 37 — known for putting her own spin on classic style — wore an olive green custom tuxedo dress from Italian designer Antonio Berardi. She paired it with peach Casablanca pumps from her go-to shoemaker Aquazzura.

Meghan also wore statement jewelry, opting for large black and gold dangly earrings and bangles to play off the simplicity of her frock — a bold choice for a woman who usually prefers more minimalist accessories.

Pulled into an elegant updo, Meghan’s hair gently draped her face.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry wore a smart grey suit and a white button-down with no tie.

During the closing ceremony, the mom-to-be (Meghan and Harry, 34, are expecting their first child in the spring!) took the stage as the crowd erupted in cheers.

“It’s such an honor to be here tonight with all of you and supporting my husband at the Invictus Games, which he founded four years ago,” she began. “In a short span of time, the games have evolved into an international platform of some of the best athletics and sportsmanship you could ever witness, coupled with a camaraderie and close-knit community, which can only be defined as the Invictus spirit.”

Meghan also revealed that she has a special connection to the wounded and recovering service members and veterans who participate in the games.

“I’m not sure if many of you know this, but a few years ago, before I had met my husband, I had the incredible honor of visiting troops deployed all over the world, from the U.K. to Italy and Afghanistan, and several other countries,” she recalled.

“In traveling to these military bases, I was given a very special glimpse into the lives of those who serve our countries. I was able to see the unshakable bonds between service men and women on the ground together, but at the same time to feel the palpable longing for family and friends while deployed,” she continued.

Then she shared how moved she was by one veteran who excitedly gave Harry and her a hug last week.

“The Novak family from Chicago is a prime example of this very thing,” shared Meghan. “When their son Ryan suffered a severe injury leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, doctors said he would never be able to walk again. But after speaking to his mom, Karri, it was clear that it was through Ryan’s strength of spirit, and with the unwavering support of his parents, that he was able to prove all of those doctors wrong.”

Meghan continued: “Not only has Ryan competed in sailing, swimming and athletics this week, but when Harry and I saw him at the finish line of the sailing competition, he literally jumped into our boat — with dexterity and ease, by the way — to give both of us a hug.”

“Seeing Ryan’s mom on the water that day, waving a flag to cheer him on was a moment I will never forget,” Meghan said.

Earlier in the day, to attend the wheelchair basketball final, Meghan wore a maroon top by Australian brand Scanlan Theodore and black pants as Harry wore a black Invictus Games polo shirt.

Later, the couple presented gold medals to Team USA as they congratulated each player on their victory.

Meghan Markle Effect Takes the Invictus Games! See How Host Channeled the Duchess with Her Ring

The Meghan Markle sparkle has taken the world by storm — even at the Invictus Games.

Just before Prince Harry‘s opening speech, presenters Kumi Taguchi and Nate Byrne took the stage, and viewers quickly noticed that the large, aquamarine ring Taguchi was wearing looked familiar.

The ring bears a striking resemblance to stunning aquamarine sparkler that Meghan wore when she stepped out in her evening ensemble after the couple’s royal wedding in May.

The emerald cut ring belonged to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, who famously wore it to an auction of her own clothes at Christie’s in 1997. The jewel is part of a set — the other piece is an aquamarine bracelet, where it’s connected by five strands of pearls. Diana wore both to a gala dinner in Australia in 1996.

Since Prince William and Harry inherited their mother’s jewelry collection, very little of it has been seen in public. But some pieces have been given to the royals’ wives.

Prince William poignantly gave the diamond and sapphire sparkler that was Diana’s engagement ring to Kate Middleton when he proposed in 2010, a lovely reminder that she was with them on their royal wedding day.

Prince Harry was able to mirror that gesture by giving Meghan the aquamarine ring, which, it has now been revealed, was a gift for Diana to wear in place of her engagement ring after her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996. Diana, who died in 1997, was given the square-cut beautiful piece by her good friend Lucia Flecha de Lima, the wife of the former ambassador of Brazil to the U.K.

Lucia, who died last year at her home in Brazil at 76, “bought it to replace the engagement ring Diana no longer wanted to wear once her marriage ended,” veteran royals journalist Richard Kay (who was a friend of Diana’s) writes in the Daily Mail.

According to Kay, Meghan has the inherited ring with her on the couple’s 16-day royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, so she may wear it again soon.

Can’t get enough of PEOPLE’s Royals coverage? Sign up for our newsletter to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more!

Meghan has already worn a pair of butterfly earrings and a gold bracelet that also belonged to Diana on the first day of their tour in Sydney.

In addition, the Duchess of Sussex’s engagement ring is made up of three diamonds, with one large stone in the center flanked by two smaller stones on the sides. The two side stones are from his late mother, Princess Diana‘s personal collection, while the center stone is from Botswana, a country that is close to Harry’s heart.

10 (Unintentionally) Terrifying Video Games

Video games can be plenty scary. I’ve thrown my controller in the air and screamed with unadulterated terror at survival-horror jump scares and felt my guts twist at the powerful manipulation of psychological terror in the hands of gaming’s storytelling masters. Games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and PT all contain the stuff nightmares are made of.

But sometimes, games are scary not so much by design as by accident. Here are 10 games from well outside the horror genre that succeed far more than they should at being deeply disturbing.
