Grammys 2019 Fashion Review: Cardi B on the Half Shell, Michelle Obama on Stage

Typically, it’s awards season’s loudest red carpet. But Sunday night’s Grammys fashion was unusually quiet — and covered up.
Without Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande, who ditched the awards show after creative differences with producers but wore her Zac Posen gown on Instagram anyway, the diva quotient was down, with only Cardi B’s meme-generating vintage 1995 Thierry Mugler Venus-on-the-half-shell look, and Janelle Monae’s sharp-shouldered Jean Paul Gaultier couture mini dress to get armchair critics going.
Even Lady Gaga, who famously arrived at the 2011 Grammys in an Armani egg pod, played it relatively safe (she’s a movie star now, after all), wearing a silver, side-ruffle gown by Hedi Slimane for Celine (a no-brainer given that she attended his first women’s ready-to-wear show last October).
Long gone were the nearly nude looks of years past; instead of baring her naval in daring green Versace circa 2000, Jennifer Lopez went with a modest, crystal-embellished mint green Ralph and Russo column gown, and covered her face with a wide-brim hat; Miley Cyrus worked an oversized circa 2019 Mugler suit with a side of cleavage, and, as WWD reported, H.E.R. was outfitted in a custom Coach purple jacquard jumpsuit.

Lady Gaga, Childish Gambino, Pink, Little Big Town to Perform at Grammys

The Grammy Awards — which will return to New York for the first time in 15 years on Jan. 28 for their 60th anniversary show — announced their first round of performers, and it’s a powerful, multi-genre list: Pop titans Lady Gaga and Pink, R&B singer/rapper Childish Gambino (a.k.a. actor Donald Glover), and country powerhouse […]

Rory Feek Is Excited About His Grammys Win — But He’s Even More Excited for Daughter Indiana’s Birthday

Rory Feek may have snagged his first Grammy on Sunday — but that won’t be the highlight of his week.

Feek said on Today Tuesday that it was a pleasant surprise to win best roots gospel album at the award show — for Hymns That Are Important to Us, his project with late wife Joey Feek — but he’s looking forward to a different milestone this week.

“ turns 3 this Friday,” Feek told Matt Lauer. “So, as exciting as the Grammys are, that’s a little more exciting for us.”

Feek honored his late wife, who died in March after a cancer battle, in a speech during the non-televised Grammys pre-show, noting that she had recorded vocals for the album while undergoing cancer treatment.

Feek has raised the couple’s 2-year-old daughter — who was born with Down syndrome — by himself since Joey’s death. And the country singer says watching his little girl grow has been his greatest joy.

“She started taking steps and she really took about eight steps the other day at her little school,” Feek said. “I told her, I said, ‘I’m so proud of you, Indy.”

He added: “It’s amazing. Especially when you take the pressure off of the expectations. So, they can just do it the way that they need to do it. And we just celebrate it. It doesn’t feel late.”

He said his daughter even listens to the couple’s final album, noting that it was “special” for the family.

“It’s been an amazing year for the album,” he said as he gushed about the Grammys win. “We knew it would be special for us, but I don’t think we had any idea how special it would be for other people.”

Britney Spears Is Thoroughly Unfazed By Katy Perry’s Grammys Shade

This is a story about a girl named Britney Spears and how completely unbothered she is by Katy Perry’s shade.

In case you haven’t been briefed by the Britney fan in your life, the “Chained to the Rhythm” singer seemingly took multiple shots at the pop princess on the red carpet at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

In two separate interviews, Perry joked about shaving her head after a public meltdown ― something she’s thought was funny since 2010 ― landing her in hot water with Britney fans, who reminded everybody that it’s never a good look to mock mental health

Spears has yet to officially respond, but one only needs to look at her recent Instagram posts to grasp just how clearly devastated Britney is by Perry’s dig.

Hours after the Grammys red carpet, Spears posted a photo of herself basking in the sun while wearing a bikini with the caption “Chasing the dream.”

Next, Spears shared a video of herself in bed with a special message to all those watching at home.

“A book in Malibu is all you need,” a giggling Britney says in the video, which was captioned “Weekend advice.”

And finally, the “Slumber Party” singer drove her point home with one last post featuring a bible verse about how words reveal a person’s true intentions.

“Her mouth speaks from that which fills her heart ❤️ Luke 6:45,” she wrote on Instagram.

Kanye West Goes on Delighted Twitter Rant About Met Gala ‘Best Dressed’ Honor: ‘It’s the Grammys of Style!’

A happy Kanye West Twitter rant? We never thought we’d see the day.

The rapper was so elated to read he and wife Kim Kardashian West were among the Met Gala‘s Best Dressed Couple according to Vogue, that he couldn’t help but publicly share the news.

Taking to his favorite social media app, Kanye wrote, “I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style!”

Like many other of the lavish evening’s guests, Kim and Kanye approached the Manus x Machina theme with sequins and sparkle. The couple both wore pieces designed by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, with Kim going “blingy sexy robot” in her form-fitting gown. Kanye was decidedly dressed down in ripped Fear of God denim (which go for $ 895) and an intricately embellished jacket — paired with an icy pair of blue contact lenses.

In the past, Kanye has made Vogue‘s best dressed list for the annual ball solo — even once included in a photograph with Kim strategically cropped out.

“Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team,” West continued on Twitter, before revealing that Kim’s look was the product of some scissor action. “Thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half and thank you for turning my personal jean jacket into a couture piece. Also to Kim’s hair and makeup Lorraine jewelry and the whole style squad at Balmain and the Yeezy team.”

Kim isn’t afraid to hack away at her designer duds, once crafting a co-ordinating crop and skirt from a Dior pink dress. We can’t quite pinpoint what parts of the reality star’s look were dissected, but can imagine the sartorial snipping was meant to show off Kim’s post-baby figure.

Nevertheless, Kanye said the pair had “fun with the ‘future’ theme.”

“It was a fun night all together,” he tweeted.

Among the night’s other perfect pairings? Gigi Hadid in custom Tommy Hilfiger with Zayn Malik in Versace, and Hannah Davis in Zuhair Murad Couture with Derek Jeter.

Do you think Kim and Kanye were the best dressed couple? Tell us in the comments.

Kanye Smiled An Awful Lot At The 2005 Grammys

Kanye West is performing twice at the 2015 Grammys this Sunday, and while we can’t ever predict what he might do, we know one thing is for sure: he won’t be smiling as much as he did at the Grammy Awards 10 years ago.

Ah, yes, back at the 2005 Grammys, when West was nominated for more Grammys than any other artist that year, and (more important?) he wasn’t too cool to smile. Let’s bask in the memory:

He was smiling about his curly swirly haircut:

He was smiling with his Grammy awards:

Like, really smiling:

He was smiling with James Brown:

And in that moment, Kanye and Sway swore they were infinite … Just playin’, but they were definitely smiling:

But that was then …

And this? This is now.

Madonna And Beyonce Expected To Perform At Grammys

To all the performers on next week’s Grammy Awards lineup: Sit down, the queens are in the house.

Madonna and Beyonce are set to perform at the Grammys on Jan. 26, according to a Los Angeles Times report that cites “two sources with knowledge of the plans.” The Huffington Post reached out to representatives from both singers’ camps and will update this post upon receiving confirmation of the news.

Madonna is expected to contribute guest vocals to a performance from one of the night’s nominees. Previously scheduled performers who Madonna could cozy up with onstage include Lorde, Taylor Swift, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Kendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons.

Beyonce will offer her first televised performance since releasing her surprise self-titled album on Dec. 13. The momentum for the unexpected release hasn’t dwindled yet, as the album still sits at No. 2 on the Billboard albums chart and could receive an additional boost from the singer’s Grammy appearance.

“Let’s put it this way … we have a really great history that goes back to the early days of Destiny’s Child,” Grammy show producer Ken Ehrlich told the Los Angeles Times, despite being unable to confirm or deny the two singers’ involvement. “I love working with [Beyonce]. She’s incredible. She is so into what it is that she does and making sure that everybody who sees her walks away saying ‘wow.’”

Beyonce is up for one Grammy this year, as a featured artist on Jay Z’s “Magna Carta…Holy Grail” track “Part II (On The Run).” She and Madonna have a long history with the awards. Thanks to both her solo work and her Destiny’s Child material, Beyonce is one of the most-honored female artists in Grammy history, behind Alison Krauss and Aretha Franklin. Madonna has seven Grammy trophies, three of which came for her acclaimed 1998 album “Ray of Light.” Her 2006 performance with Gorillaz and De La Soul is commonly credited as one of the best Grammy acts in recent years.

If the news comes to fruition, Madonna and Beyonce will join an all-star roster of performers that also includes a Beatles reunion featuring Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Daft Punk taking the stage alongside Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder, and Metallica being joined by noted concert pianist Lang Lang.
