Britain’s John Lewis Revamps Offer, Puts Urban Spin on Men’s Wear

LONDON — British department store John Lewis & Partners, where customers can find everything from lamps and frying pans to flat-screen TVs and computers, is putting a fresh spin on men’s wear in a bid to speak to multiple generations, street and sneaker devotees and necktie-free urbanites.
The retail stalwart, which also owns the upmarket supermarket chain Waitrose, has held relatively steady in the crisis that is sweeping the British high street. The store continues to invest in its store real estate, own-brand merchandise, staff training and has been swinging the spotlight onto own brand and exclusive products that customers cannot buy anywhere else.
It’s a tough time for British brick-and-mortar clothing retailers in particular. They’re falling victim to online competition, fast-fashion and streetwear competitors, as well as luxury brands keen to woo younger shoppers with entry-price merchandise such as sneakers and T-shirts.
Marks & Spencer is a prime example of the struggle so many are facing: On Thursday the retailer said in a terse statement that its managing director of clothing and home, Jill McDonald, was leaving the business after two years.
M&S clothing has been struggling for some time, a victim of long-standing supply chain and sizing issues and of a younger

St. John Resort 2020

Over the past few seasons, the St. John woman has been offered expanded categories in the brand’s staples — knitwear for day and evening, extended sportswear and private-jet-esque getaway loungewear, along with more modern takes on their classic tweed jackets. For the resort season, the St. John team steered toward more graphic waters through a maritime-influenced lineup. Prints were more literal — there were colorful nautical scarf prints on silk dresses and blouses — and knitwear were given sail-knot-like stitches and cross-hatch buttons.
Another main emphasis of the collection came from the idea of monochromatic layerings head-to-toe, as in luxurious but easy knit sets, aquatic natured in scuba and sale blues or more subtle in cork, navy and cream neutrals. Elsewhere, a navy trenchcoat and baby-cuffed trousers helped to refresh the brand’s more signature, updated offerings.

EXCLUSIVE: John Galliano and Nick Knight Reunite for Maison Margiela Film

PARIS — John Galliano and Nick Knight are rekindling their decades-long creative partnership with a new short film for Maison Margiela showcasing its pillow-shaped Glam Slam bag.
The result is no ordinary handbag campaign: The collaboration with Knight’s Showstudio has resulted in a 360-degree film shot in negative image that will be screened on Saturday and Sunday at the Serpentine Gallery in London.
Even the standard two-dimensional version ranks as an immersive experience, consisting of footage drenched in psychedelic hues of model Duckie Thot in a series of science fiction-inspired sets. A soundtrack by DJ Jeremy Healy, another longtime Galliano collaborator, features lyrics from Roy Orbison’s “In Dreams.”
“John and I have had an artistic relationship, a shared admiration, a love for each other, which has gone on for over 30 years,” Knight told WWD in an interview, noting that he first met the designer on a photo shoot for i-D magazine in 1985 and has created campaigns and editorial images with him ever since. “When we went through the Dior years together, I was there for 10 years with him and since then, I’ve been waiting for a way to come back and work with John again. John Varvatos Business on a Growth Path as Sale Rumors Silence

NEW YORK — In 2020, John Varvatos will mark a major milestone — the 20th anniversary of showing his first men’s wear collection.
Like any fashion label, Varvatos has experienced his share of ups and downs over the past two decades — ownership changes, painful reductions in staff, department store consolidation and changing shifts in fashion.
But after a couple of years of flux, the John Varvatos business is once again in expansion mode. The brand just entered the Middle East with its first retail store in Dubai and there are others in the wings. New product categories such as accessories, jewelry and swimwear are being added.
Star USA, the more-casual, younger and lower-priced line, has been completely revamped and will be unveiled at the Pitti Uomo show in Florence in January.
The architect steering these changes is Mark Brashear, who joined John Varvatos Enterprises as chief executive officer three years ago. Brashear has a long history in the men’s industry that includes Nordstrom, Façonnable, Hugo Boss and Michael Kors.
He’s also seen as a straight shooter and, as such, doesn’t duck questions regarding the uncertainty that surrounded the brand just two years ago when rumors were rampant that its majority owner, the private equity group, Lion

John Varvatos Enters Middle East With Dubai Mall Store

John Varvatos has made a move into the Middle East.
The New York-based men’s brand on Tuesday night opened a 2,937-square-foot store in the Fashion Avenue section of the Dubai Mall.
The store, which is the 31st retail unit for the label, is part of a geographical licensing deal with Casa Vida, which is part of Emaar Properties, a real estate firm that owns the Dubai Mall, according to Mark Brashear, chief executive officer of John Varvatos.
Under the terms of the deal, Brashear said, Casa Vida will open two additional stores in the Middle East over the next 18 months. The locations have not yet been identified, he said. “We’re looking at a couple of different options.”
Emaar operates over 6.7 million square feet of retail space in Dubai and also owns the Dubai Marina Mall, Souk Al Bahar and the Gold & Diamond Park, according to its web site.
The addition of Varvatos is part of the expansion of the fashion and lifestyle offerings at the Dubai Mall that involves adding another 1 million square feet and 150 new brands to the Fashion Avenue area of the mall. The company has a goal of attracting over 100 million visitors in the next three to

DWTS’ John Schneider Gets Emotional Over His Strained Relationship with His Children

John Schneider is hoping he can mend his strained relationship with his three children.

In an exclusive clip of Monday’s Dancing with the Stars, the Dukes of Hazzard alum, who played Bo Duke on the comedy series from 1979-85, gets emotional while explaining how country music and DWTS has affected his life.

“What country music means to me is it’s three chords and the truth and it shines a light on things that happen in everyday life that are wonderful, not so wonderful, and that are heart-wrenching,” Schneider, 58, says.

“I’ve been going through a divorce now for four years and it’s awful. The worst part about it is that it’s wedged itself in between my three adult children and myself. Nothing I can do except hope one day one of my kids will call me up or show up. I look in the crowd every Monday thinking maybe tonight, maybe tonight.”

“If it weren’t for this music and now Dancing with the Stars, I don’t think I can survive it,” he admits. “It gives me great joy at a time where I desperately needed it.”

Earlier on in the season, Schneider briefly spoke towards his relationship with his children. whom he is not on speaking terms with.

“I’m hoping that I will do my family proud, I’ll do my love over there proud,” said Schneider told host Erin Andrews, referencing his girlfriend, Alicia, and added, “and maybe my children will speak to me again.”

After 21 years of marriage, Schneider’s estranged wife Elvira “Elly” Schneider filed for divorce in Los Angeles County on Nov. 14, 2014. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, according to court documents.

In September 2016, Schneider — he shares adult children Leah, Chasen, and Karis with Elvira — was ordered to pay his ex $ 18,911 every month, TMZ reported.

But in June, Schneider was sentenced to three days behind bars in the Los Angeles County Jail in June for failure to pay more than $ 150,000 in owed alimony payments to Elvira. The actor was released on the same day as his initial booking because of California’s overcrowded prison system, but his legal woes were not done with that.

Schneider was also ordered to serve an additional 120 hours behind bars for contempt, but that sentence was suspended by the court on the condition that he fulfills a four-part list of conditions, including filing back taxes to help clear title to their property in Apple Valley so that it could be transferred to her, paying his ex half of his owed earnings from Maven Entertainment, and offering certain financial disclosures before the end of the year.

Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on ABC.

St. John RTW Spring 2019

St. John presented a more streamlined and sleek collection during an intimate cocktail presentation in place of a showroom appointment for spring 2019. The brand felt even more elevated with mostly mannequins dressed in neutrals at the forefront of the floor-to-ceiling walls of the Glass Houses penthouse venue.
“We thought highlighting black, navy and white just sort of synthesized and streamlined it to the silhouette and form — to highlight slacks, jackets, dresses. There’s tons more color as well though,” explained Tom Jarrold, the brand’s senior vice president of marketing, branding and communications.
The silhouettes were light and easy: a long caftan continued from resort was updated in white, but also offered short and in fiery red. Transparencies made for important details in the collection on dresses and blazers. The brand is making due diligence to keep new collections close to its core DNA — continuing long line and tweed jackets, a wide array of “New Standard” basics, and dresses — while maintaining a less embellished, tightly edited and focused approach going forward.

John Lennon’s Imagine: Yoko Ono Reflects on Tracks from the Enduring Classic

Each year around Oct. 9, millions across the globe come together to honor the life and legacy of John Lennon on what would be his birthday. But this year fans had another reason to celebrate: the late legend’s solo masterwork Imagine received a lush multimedia reissue, providing unparalleled insight into one of Lennon’s greatest artistic achievements and, ultimately, his musical epitaph.

The album topped the charts worldwide upon its initial release in September 1971, giving the former Beatle his first number one under his own name. His solo debut, the previous year’s John Lennon/Plastic Ono Bandwas a searing confessional, recorded in the wake of an excruciating bout of experimental Primal Scream therapy. Though possessing a raw beauty, Lennon’s self-lacerating lyrics, probing the darkest part of his psyche, made it ill-suited for the contemporary hit parade.

Imagine, with its delicately wrought title track, was aimed squarely at the charts. Just as he and Yoko Ono — his partner in life, love and art — parlayed their fame to promote peace through the medium of celebrity-driven mass media, Lennon drew upon his unparalleled gift for melody and Ono’s singular gift for poetry to craft a utopian anthem for the Top 40. “Now I understand what you have to do: put your political message across with a little honey,” he later said.

Sessions for the album primarily took place in May 1971 at Ascot Sound Studios, a custom-built facility installed at Tittenhurt Park, the couple’s sprawling country estate outside London. This pioneering exercise in home studio recording went a long way in contributing to the gentle feel of the album. With Phil Spector — the infamous architect behind the so-called “Wall of Sound” — co-producing with Lennon and Ono, guest musicians were called in as needed, on a casual rotating basis.

More of often than not, the players were old friends. Klaus Voormann, a confidant of the Beatles’ since their days playing Hamburg’s Reeperbahn circuit a decade earlier, was enlisted to handle bass duties, while London session player Nicky Hopkins commanded the keys. Harrison turned up to play lead on half the tracks, including the Paul McCartney-bashing “How Do You Sleep,” and members of Badfinger — then signed to the Beatles’ Apple Records label — also put in an appearance, as did Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues. When they weren’t busy recording, the gang could often be found hanging out in the mansion’s homey kitchen located just off the studio. “It was really like home-cooking, that’s how Imagine was made,” Ono later reflected.

Consisting of four CDs, 2 Blu-Ray discs and a detailed book, Imagine: The Ultimate Collection offers rare demos, outtakes, and loose jams from the sessions, plus remixes of the original album skillfully handled by engineers Paul Hicks and Rob Stevens. The most unique elements of the collection are the innovative “Evolution” montages of each track, which edit together the earliest acoustic sketches and rehearsals through studio false starts and dead ends, all the way to the finished product. The result is a thrilling musical tour from conception to completion, allowing listeners to hear the song take shape through every step of the way.

Released on the heels of the box set is a hard-cover coffee table book, featuring intimate, never-before-seen photos curated by Ono herself, and reminiscences from nearly everyone involved with the album’s production. And if that’s not enough to satisfy your curiosity about this creatively fertile period (a “small hurricane” as Lennon once described it), a pair of documentaries — Imagine and Gimme Some Truth — have received a limited theatrical re-release, as well as a DVD reissue from Eagle Rock Entertainment.

The stunning assortment brings fans as close as humanly possible to those spring days inside Ascot Sound Studios when rock history was made. To be sure, PEOPLE spoke someone who actually was there — and played a seminal role in the creation of Imagine. In addition to co-producing the album, Yoko Ono co-wrote “Oh My Love” and also the title track. She graciously went track by track through Imagine, answering questions via email.

The seeds of the lyrics for “Imagine” are taken from “Cloud Piece” in your book Grapefruit — what is it about the act of “imagining” that’s so powerful?

Because now we are like people in jail, we have to use our power in a stronger way.

“Crippled Inside”

What are some of the best ways that we can heal and not be so crippled emotionally?

Once we decide that we can heal ourselves, not leaning on anybody else, and focus our attention on that, we will come out healed.

“Jealous Guy”

Was it hard for two strong artists to co-exist in the same (psychic and literal) space? How do you ensure there’s enough energy for your relationship, but also for yourself and your work?

We had to be extremely wise and knowing that we are both very strong people. We also decided that we should not use our energy to fight with each other.

“It’s So Hard”

I always had the impression that “It’s So Hard” is the inverse of “Imagine” — all the day-to-day troubles that get in the way of our peace of mind. How do you manage with daily stresses and keep a clear head and peaceful soul?

I just found a way to do it.

“I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier”

For so long, “manhood” has been linked with the capacity to kill. How do you feel we can move past this brand of toxic masculinity?

We have to really understand what men can do to make the world beautiful. The big mistake we make is to make men be what they don’t want to be. And vice versa.

“Gimme Some Truth”

In the eyes of many fans, John experienced a “political awakening” in the early ‘70s. How much of that do you feel was your influence?

I think I’d like you to imagine how much of it was me.

“Oh My Love”

In the past, you’ve named “Oh My Love” as one of your favorite songs of John’s. What is it about it that’s so special to you?

The reason is very clear, isn’t it?

“How Do You Sleep?”

What did you think about “How Do You Sleep?” at the time? Did you have any reservations about it?

No, because it’s a beautiful song.

As one of the billions who love him, I always found this line particular affecting: “How can I give love when love is something I never had?” Why do you feel that so many people have such a hard time accepting love?

It was what John experienced too as a young boy. People are scared that the love offered to them may not be true.

“Oh Yoko!”

You’ve said that the two of you shared an almost psychic connection. In what ways did you think alike?

When we were creating a song we quite often realized that we were thinking the same thing.

John Elliott Men’s and Women’s Spring 2019

John Elliott brought a healthy dose of California to New York City for his spring show, taking over a skate park on the Hudson River to drive home the inspiration for the season: Los Angeles. With the 90-plus-degree heat and blazing sun, it was L.A. at its most extreme.
The designer did his best to make attendees comfortable on their colorful milk-crate seats by providing cold water or juice and portable fans. But most faces were shiny with sweat by the time his celebrity guests arrived: LeBron James and Justin Bieber, the latter arriving hand-in-hand with fiancée Hailey Baldwin and grooving to the soundtrack.
Elliott considered his hometown “the most authoritative story” he could tell this season. “Not the stereotypical, glitzy, Hollywood L.A.,” he noted, “but the real neighborhoods — that’s my truth.”
It shone through in its casual vibe and the seamless blend of streetwear and athletic references. Elliott also showed a new maturity by offering up a blend of technical materials and varying silhouettes that took inspiration from different eras to create a never-ending youthful vibe.
His L.A. inspiration was obvious in the slightly oversize shorts and jackets that he emblazoned with a colorful bougainvillea print — a bit out of character

Nikki Bella Jokes That Twin Sister Brie Should Have Broken Up with John Cena in Her Place

Nikki Bella has a sense of humor about her relationship drama with John Cena.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with her twin sister Brie Bella, the wrestler, 34, quipped about the romance.

When Fallon asked about the advantages of having an identical twin, Nikki replied, “When we were young, we’d break up with boyfriends for each other.”

Brie chimed in, “We never had to go through the emotions of a breakup because I was like, ‘You wanna dump the guy? Cool.’ I’d be like, ‘Hello? Yeah, not into you. Sorry.’ And then I would just go on with my day, no hard feelings, and she’d be like, ‘Did you do it?’ And I’d be like, ‘Yeah, you’re good.’”

Then Nikki got in a burn: “So where were you a few months ago? Just kidding.”

“Sorry,” she said as the audience gasped.

“That would’ve been a hard phone call,” Brie replied.

Nikki was cheekily alluding to her rocky road with Cena, 41. The longtime loves got engaged in April 2017 after dating for five years. A year later, Nikki broke off the engagement three weeks before their May 5 wedding date.

“He was making it abundantly clear that he was going into this gritting his teeth the whole way,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “Nikki is an amazing, talented, strong, one-of-a-kind woman. Anyone would be lucky to have her in their life — yet John acted more and more like he was doing her a favor by somehow conceding to go ahead and marry her.”

On The Tonight Show, Nikki opened up about how difficult it is to watch the moments play out on TV.

“This season’s been really painful for me,” she said. “To just relive, it’s been super tough.”

When Fallon mentioned that the Total Bellas season finale is “emotional,” Nikki explained, “Brie and I, we’re just beyond open books. But we feel like if you want to have a reality show, you can’t have the fake stuff. You really have to let people into your life, and that’s how you connect with people.”

The split also stemmed from their differing thoughts on having children.

“I do want to be a mom,” Nikki said on Total Divas in 2013. “I feel like I’d be missing out.”

“I’m going to choose my words carefully,” Cena answered. “I can’t give you that.”

On a recent episode of Total Bellas, Nikki got nervous about marrying Cena because of this difference of opinion. “I just know deep down I want a baby,” she said. “I want to be a mom, and I feel like I can’t live the rest of my life not having one.”

Then, Cena agreed to have his vasectomy reversed.

On Total Bellas, the Blockers star told Nikki about his change of heart. “I physically can’t have kids,” he said. “So I’m also telling you that I’m willing to have surgery and then still go through with being a dad.”

But in the latest episode of Total Bellas, Nikki decided to cancel the wedding again. “It’s tough because he’s, like, fighting really hard for me,” she said, going on to add that “there’s something that is making me not feel like I can walk down the aisle right now.”

The season finale of Total Bellas airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on E!

Pizza Inferno: John Travolta Channels Saturday Night Fever at Brooklyn Event in His Honor

John Travolta returned to Lenny’s Pizza in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, on Tuesday, over 40 years after his Saturday Night Fever character Tony Manero made the establishment famous.

Dressed in a white suit jacket and black shirt that mimicked the iconic outfit he wore in the 1977 film, the actor was all smiles as he was honored by the borough in what was dubbed “John Travolta Day.”

Wife Kelly Preston was by his side at the event, dressed in a long-sleeve black patterned dress. The two danced to the Bee Gees’ music from the film’s best-selling soundtrack, and sampled slices from Lennys as they were cheered on by thousands of admirers gathered along 86th Street.

Travolta, 64, put Lenny’s Pizza on the map in the opening credits of Saturday Night Fever when he ordered two slices from the eatery, stacked them, and ate them together as one. Lenny’s has since named the “double-decker slice” in Travolta’s honor, local outlet PIX-11 reported.

“It’s not often that we have an opportunity to recognize a great actor who helped turn Brooklyn into a cultural touchstone of the late 1970s,” New York State Senator Marty Golden told the crowd, in video captured by PIX-11. “John Travolta did exactly that.”

For his part, Travolta appeared to be overjoyed and humbled. “We love you. We love Brooklyn,” he told the crowd in the PIX-11 clip. “Thank you very, very much.”

“I’m so humbled, it’s amazing,” he added as police escorted him through the crowds, according to the outlet. “I never expected this big a turnout, it was awesome.”

Preston, 55, shared video and photos of the afternoon on Instagram.

“Having a total fangirl moment!!! 💁🏼‍♀️” she wrote. “Thank you Brooklyn for an insane day 😍.”

Saturday Night Fever followed the dual life of Travolta’s character; a star on the discotheque dance floor but a working-class man with a dead-end job and an unsupportive family back at home.

The film — which was directed by John Badham — popularized disco music across the world. A Sylvester Stallone-directed sequel, Staying Alive, was released in 1983.

Travolta is in the Big Apple to support his new movie, Gotti, in theaters on Friday.

The week also marks the 40th anniversary of another one of Travolta’s treasured films: Grease.

John Cena and Nikki Bella Settle into Their New Home Before Ending Engagement

John Cena is showing off his goofy side.

In a new clip from the season 3 premiere of Total Bellas, Cena gets overly excited when a new rug gets delivered to the house he shares with then-finance Nikki Bella.

When Bella doesn’t alert Cena that the rug has arrived, he jokingly warns Bella not to mess with the “rug man.”

“I’ve been waiting all day like a dog with a bone,” he says. “I’m going to get all fist-deep in some rug.”

The pro-wrestler then goes into the other room to unpack the rug, which only makes him more excited.

“Nicole! How could you not have told me about this? This is a major thing that has happened today,” he yells across the house.

“Are you still doing the rug?” Bella, who is hanging out with her brother and mom in the living room responds.

“Never, ever question the rug man,” Cena replies.

In the new season, Bella, 34, and Cena, 40, move to San Diego together. But despite their new home, the couple spent long periods of time apart due to their busy schedules. Bella also opened up about the loneliness she felt in her relationship.

“What’s hard at times that people don’t realize about my relationship is I’m alone a lot,” Bella said during an interview segment on the show. “I’m alone in these big, beautiful homes.”

“Honestly, John and I have shared our bed together maybe 30 days total, out of six months,” she continued.

Bella called off her engagement to Cena three weeks before they were meant to walk down the aisle. Sources previously told PEOPLE that her decision to break up was due to their differing stances on marriage and having kids.

Though the pair has ended their romance, both Cena and Bella have acknowledged that they would like to one day get back together.

“John is such an amazing man. He really is the love of my life,” Bella told Entertainment Tonight at NBCUniversal’s Upfront Presentation in New York City on Monday.

“I truly hope one day that we can work it out and get back together,” she admitted. “I think there is hope.”

However, Bella, 34, called off the engagement three weeks before the WWE pair would walk down the aisle during their destination ceremony. Sources previously told PEOPLE that her decision to break up was due to their differing stances on marriage and having kids.

The nuptials would’ve occurred over a year after Cena, 40, proposed to Bella on live TV during WrestleMania 33 in April 2017. And there was even a TV special planned about their wedding set to air in July, but the concept was scrapped after they split after six years together.

While Cena and Bella will not be going ahead with their “I dos,” here are all the wedding details they had shared with their fans and viewers of Total Bella and Total Divas.

The Dress

The same month she accepted Cena’s proposal, Bella was already in full wedding mode as she spoke candidly about what she envisioned for her big day.

“I’m kind of happy I’m getting married in my 30s, because in my 20s I would’ve had something obnoxious, princess-like Kate Middleton. I want lace I think. I want something very classy, like classic and sexy. Something classic, form-fitting. I do want a veil,” Bella told PEOPLE in April 2017, jokingly adding, “Who am I without cleavage?”

Also in April 2017, Bella took a trip to New York Bridal Fashion Week to look at wedding dresses from Romona Keveza and Marchesa. In August 2017, Bella revealed hints about her gown, telling PEOPLE Now, “I can say that it’s a Marchesa.”

During an episode of Total Divas that aired in January 2018, Brie Bella surprised her twin sister with a bridal shopping trip, during which Nikki tried on multiple dress options.

Meanwhile, Cena did not opt for a custom look.

“I also have a few decent-looking tuxes in the wardrobe already, so depending on the colors and the schemes of the wedding and the theme, I might already have something,” he told PEOPLE in July 2017. “I have a few tailors that I work with, just because I’m not exactly somebody who can buy a suit off the rack.”

Wedding Planning

Following the engagement, Bella and Cena expressed their excitement for their wedding.

“I think everyone’s going to think I’m a bridezilla. I really do. I think I’m just so happy to be engaged and that John decided he wanted to get married. I just want to take this in and make it fun and happy,” Bella told PEOPLE in April 2017. “The minute it’s not fun, it’s like why are we doing this? This is why he didn’t want to do it, right? So I want to make it easy and romantic and intimate. Make it for us, no one else but us.”

In July 2017, Bella announced that Brie would be matron of honor.

Meanwhile, Cena told PEOPLE he doesn’t need all the pomp and circumstance.

“I’ve stressed to Nicole that I would really like to get it done because I guess it took me so long to ask, now that I’ve made the commitment I really just want to get married,” he said in July 2017.

“I want it yesterday, but we have a date,” Cena said in April, shortly before their breakup. “I’m excited, but I also have great perspective that I want the day to be important for Nicole.”

He added, “All that information rests on her shoulders. I’m involved in every single step of the process, but I am like the last checkpoint. So, let’s say, décor will be chosen. And then I’ll be given three options but be nudged to like number two. I will politely agree to number two, but I am very much actively a part of the process.”

In October 2017, Bella, who was competing on Dancing with the Stars at the time, revealed that the wedding date was pushed back. “We changed the date and location,” she said, adding that the adjustment was spurred by “schedules” as well as their many responsibilities and commitments.

Bachelorette Party — But No Bachelor Party

In March, Nikki celebrated with a nine-day bachelorette party in Paris with Brie and their closest friends.

Meanwhile, Cena said he had no interest in a stag night.

“No, I mean, why? Help me out. What is a bachelor party? I’m gonna skip it,” he told E! News in March.

The Big Day

While John and Nikki will not be tying the knot, Brie recently told PEOPLE that she will be there for her sister on their wedding date.

Brie said that she was considering planning a girls trip for her twin to keep their minds distracted. “I’m throwing some stuff out there to her. We might do something, we are deciding. There’s a part of her that just wants to be home,” she said in late April.

“I just told her, you lead the way and I’ll follow. … If it’s at home and eating pizza and devouring ice cream, I’m down for that or if want to escape to Napa and down a lot of wine, I’m down for that as well,” Brie added.

The mother of one also added that Total Bellas viewers will see everything that led up to the former couple’s separation.

“I have to give a lot of credit to John and Nicole. They really opened up their lives and they really wanted to close the curtain and be like this is it, we’re done,” she said. “My sister is really great with her fans in a way where she lets them connect with her. She lets them like go, ‘My life isn’t perfect and isn’t easy’ and lets them see the playbook of her life.”

Tommy John Introduces Women’s Collection

A picture of a female customer posted on Facebook sealed the deal for Erin Fujimoto and Tom Patterson, cofounders of Tommy John, a men’s underwear brand that’s now venturing into the women’s category.
In the picture, the customer was wearing Tommy John men’s underwear with a caption pleading with the brand to create a line for women.
“I realized that the noise from our customers became really loud. They were even coming up with suggested brand names for us like Tommy Jane and Tammy Joe,” said Fujimoto, who is also the head of merchandising. “We realized there is a void in the market and she’s being underserved, and we need to figure out what that void is.”
Fujimoto and Patterson developed the line over the course of two years and used the same three f’s — fit, fabric and function — they apply to the men’s line to create the women’s collection, which is made up of two fabrics and promises no visible panty lines, no waistbands that pinch and no bunching. Air is an ultralight mesh, antimicrobial stretch fabric with seamless, bonded edges. It comes in a thong, cheeky and a brief. Second Skin is a non-pilling, micro-modal fabric that will come

In a Q&A session with WWD style director Alex Badia, Elliott discussed his brand’s evolution.

John Legend Opens Up About Playing Jesus: He ‘Was a Bit of a Revolutionary’

He sang about “Ordinary People,” but John Legend is taking on an extraordinary role.

The Grammy, Oscar and Tony winner, 39, will play the title role in NBC’s upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert — and PEOPLE caught up with Legend before he takes the stage on Easter Sunday to talk growing up in church and how he got into character for the beloved rock opera.

“ imagined what a real human being would think going through betrayal and the challenge of joining together with your friends to fight against oppression. My job is to embody that,” Legend, 39, tells PEOPLE of playing the Son of God alongside Sara Bareilles (Mary Magdalene) and Alice Cooper (King Herod).

Adds the performer: “I think Jesus in real life was a bit of a revolutionary — he was somebody who was disrupting the status quo and provided an example for how we could all love each other, how we think about people who have been looked down upon and what it means to sacrifice oneself for something that you believe in.”

Legend grew up in a “very Christian” home in Springfield, Ohio, where his mother was a choir director, his grandmother a church organist and his grandfather a pastor.

“The message I took from growing up in church was the idea of loving your neighbor, giving to others and treating people as you would want to be treated,” says Legend. “You can learn those things in any religion or without religion, but that’s where I did.”

And the star says his childhood in the church changed his life.

“I was in choir rehearsals every week as a kid, and I took over the choir when I was older,” he says. “That was the foundation of my career; I wouldn’t be where I am without playing gospel music in church.”

Sean John at 20: Sean Combs on Longevity and Making a Difference

While his name may have changed more times than some people change cars, there has been at least one constant for Sean Combs over the past 20 years: The Sean John brand.
The label’s founder, born Sean John Combs, has been known as Puffy, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Diddy and now, Love. But for the hip-hop entrepreneur, they’re all just names that reflect different periods in his life. Call him what you will — his success speaks for itself.
His earnings in 2017 alone, according to Forbes, were $ 130 million and his net worth is estimated at $ 820 million, edging out even Jay Z, who is worth a mere $ 810 million.
Not bad for someone who dropped out of business school in his sophomore year. Now, at 48, Combs has a multipronged career that covers not only fashion but music, TV production, athletes’ beverages and vodka. And, of course, he travels with his own entourage – at his WWD shoot, 17 people arrived well ahead of the star. Given all his activities, getting face time with Combs can be a challenge, hence the reason Sean John’s vice president of design arrived with storyboards and line sheets for the holiday 2018 collection, which he

John Leguizamo Says He’s Willing to Give Up Acting to Run for Office

John Leguizamo, creator of the Broadway show Latin History for Morons, has never shied away from using his immense platform to voice his opinions, especially to criticize the polices and actions of President Donald Trump. Now, the actor reveals his willingness to sacrifice his life’s passions —  acting and writing — to stand up for his beliefs by launching a political campaign.

Although the 53-year-old continues to add more projects to his plate, the Latino actor admitted that he would give up his decades-long career to thwart the advancement of the new political today: “You know, I love what I do. I would hate to give it up,” Leguizamo told DailyBeast.com. “But if I could I would run for office in Texas. I would run someplace heinous to make a difference.”

Leguizamo’s Broadway show, which chronicles the long, illustrious, often fraught history of Latinos in the U.S., serves as an inspiration for his political agenda. “I would run… to get rid of gerrymandering and to allow people to teach Latino history in Texas which is 39 percent Latino and around 12 percent black, so we people of color are the majority. Why are we so beaten down there?”

But the actor isn’t going to wait for his day in office. The Carlito’s Way star will use his current work to affect the change he wants to see in the world starting in November 2018. During the next election season, Leguizamo wants to take Latin History for Morons to major cities like Chicago, Denver, Miami and many more to galvanize Latinos to get involved: “Latinos need to be motivated to be re-motivated, and maybe even inspired for the first time to understand how much right they have to speak out and stand up for themselves,” he told the online magazine.

John Varvatos Men’s Fall 2018

John Varvatos went “rogue” for his fall show, eschewing the official fashion calendar to present on the eve of Grammys weekend in New York.
He selected an old synagogue on the Lower East Side and filled the front row with musicians and executives in town for the big event at Madison Square Garden: all three Jonas brothers, Thomas Rhett, Young Paris and Iggy Azalea among them.
It was ironic then that this season, Varvatos showed less of a rock ’n’ roll aesthetic than in the past. “I never think of us as rock ’n’ roll,” the designer said backstage before the show. “That’s other people’s perception. But it does have an edge to it.”
Instead, the designer set out to “change it up,” with a show he titled “John Varvatos 2.0” that “explored the notion of looking back to look forward,” according to the show notes.
He turned to his greatest hits over the past 17 years — textured fabrics, handknit sweaters, hand-finished leathers and pumped-up trainers — modernized in terms of silhouette and materials — to offer his take on the street “and how we’re living today.”
Despite the slightly oversized proportions, the collection was not streetwear — intentionally. “I appreciate streetwear but I’m

EXCLUSIVE: Maison Margiela to Present First Men’s Collection Under John Galliano

MAN UP: With Paris Men’s Fashion Week set to kick off Tuesday, management at Maison Margiela has confirmed that the house on Friday will present the first men’s collection entirely created and developed under the direction of John Galliano.
The show will take place in the Salle Turenne of the Musée de l’Armée in the Hôtel des Invalides, a complex of buildings in the city’s 7th arrondissement containing museums and monuments relating to the military history of France.
Since joining the OTB-owned house in October 2014, Galliano has had no official involvement in the men’s collection, according to Riccardo Bellini, the house’s chief executive officer. It’s been a step-by-step process for the designer.
“Creating a new aesthetic language rooted in the maison’s couture spirit has always been at the core of Mr. Galliano’s creative vision for the future of the house. Rather than curating the past we have chosen to look at the future and John Galliano’s vision represents a forward-thinking view on the maison and its DNA,” he said. “This collection will offer an elevated and powerful new foundation for men’s wear, strongly positioned within the luxury arena.”
For men’s, the brand counts about 60 direct stores and around 400 multibrand and department stores worldwide.

John Lawrence Sullivan Men’s Fall 2018

There was a sharp, sinister edge to this collection by the boxer-turned-designer Arashi Yanagawa, who is based in Tokyo and who’s been showing in London for the past three seasons. He said he wanted to show “two sides to one person,” with inspirations from films such as “Twin Peaks,” “Taxi Driver” and “Natural Born Killers” — to mixed results.
The strongest looks were the more formal, tailored ones: A sharply-cut olive topcoat, a brown one with contrasting green lapels and a long plaid topper with extra-wide shoulders. Another terrific coat with a leopard pattern looked as if it had been yanked straight from the closet of Grace Jones, circa 1986.
A fuzzy purple sweater with one gray arm and dark green leather biker pants added a jolt of brightness – and humor – to this lineup which often traveled to the dark side – unsuccessfully – in the form of long black coats or vests done in black leather, and split-personality jeans with one denim leg and another in dark leather.

How Tommy John Introduces Its Brand to Macy’s Customers

Tommy John has made its way to Macy’s.
The men’s underwear brand, which was founded by Tom Patterson in 2008, began as an online-only company, but eventually moved into wholesale partnerships with Nordstrom and Men’s Wearhouse. Now, the company has secured a selling area at Macy’s Herald Square where Tommy John will operate a holiday pop-up that’s open through January.
“The underwear section of any department can be a very crowded space with hundreds of brands, styles and silhouettes cramped into limited square footage,” said Patterson. “By choosing to launch the Tommy John pop-up in Macy’s Herald Square, we’ve pulled Tommy John away from all the underwear brands on the market and taken over our own space to showcase the product and its features and benefits.”
In addition to a pop-up that showcases what Patterson described as an improved shopping experience that transforms underwear from a commodity to a more considered purchase, the company made a splash with an appearance from  comedian Kevin Hart, who invests in Tommy John and recently released collaborative product with the company. The first 200 customers who purchased pieces from the Tommy John x Kevin Hart collection were able to meet Hart, take a photo with him at

Layoffs to Hit St. John Knits

St. John Knits Inc. plans to cut 72 positions in December.
A company spokeswoman confirmed the layoffs, which were first reported to the California Employment Development Department. The cuts are effective Dec. 11 and follow a June round of cuts totaling 130 manufacturing positions.
The company said in June it had adjusted its manufacturing process, and work previously done by sewers, cutters and knitting machine operators in the company’s Irvine, Calif., factories was being moved overseas to its Mexico facility in addition to contractors in Asia and Los Angeles.
St. John at the time said the “change strategically situates the company to meet the future needs of our consumers.”
The company’s spokeswoman confirmed the December round of cuts are in line with the same strategy that prompted the June layoffs.
Fosun International, of China, gained a minority stake in the St. John business in 2013. A good read on the company’s business has been hard to come by. The privately held business doesn’t disclose revenue and much of its communication in more recent years has focused on telling a design story keen on breathing new life into the brand, while retaining a firm grip on its heritage in luxury knitwear.
In September, it was revealed that

Tommy John Expands Underwear Offering

Tommy John is introducing its fifth underwear line.
The men’s innerwear brand, which was founded by Tom Patterson, is releasing its Go Anywhere collection, which is made from moisture-wicking, anti-microbial fabrics with four-way stretch. The underwear includes Tommy John’s signature features including the Quick Draw Horizontal Fly, the Stay-Put Waist Band and the No-Wedgie Guarantee.
“Guys are more active than they’ve ever been before, and the Go Anywhere collection is made from a fabric that can take them through the day,” Patterson said. “We’ve always focused on comfort first, soft fabrics that are smart and give a guy everyday performance.”
The line includes a jogger, a dress pant and a Henley along with a trunk and boxer brief. Tommy John first dabbled in apparel in 2015 with its ath-leisure collection. It also introduced Tommy John Labs, a platform the brand used to explore categories beyond underwear.
Tommy John is set to open its first store this October at the King of Prussia mall in Philadelphia, which Patterson said will provide its customer with a comfortable shopping experience they might not be accustomed to.

Texas is at the forefront of everyone’s minds right now and that includes John Varvatos.
The designer is still planning to open his 21st store in Dallas on Friday, but due to Hurricane Harvey, which has devastated Houston and other communities in the area, the new store as well as the Houston boutique will be donating 10 percent of their sales to the American Red Cross during the month of September.
The Dallas store, at the NorthPark Center, will be Varvatos’ 28th unit globally. The 2,800-square-foot unit will carry the brand’s full assortment of John Varvatos Collection, Star U.S.A. and Converse x John Varvatos apparel and accessories.
Not surprisingly, the store will have a rock ‘n’ roll theme. The designer has teamed with Rock Paper Photo to showcase a selection of images of rock legends including Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan as well as Texas natives Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The storefront features glazed brick and antique-finished zinc metal, the floors are rift and quartered wood and the walls are white brick and walnut.
