TV Review: ‘Another Life’

Netflix’s new series “Another Life” brings Katee Sackhoff back into space, a decade after the conclusion of “Battlestar Galactica,” the beloved series on which she starred. But her new series looks more like the rest of the fare on the SyFy network — it’s inelegantly made and operates less in the realm of ideas than […]

Virgil Abloh Talks Work, Life — but Not Politics

CHICAGO — “Incredible” is how Virgil Abloh described being recognized by his hometown with his first major retrospective, “Figures of Speech,” opening June 10 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
“I think within the narrative, within the work and the show is a little bit like, it’s a little bit sort of like, reaffirming these full circles like happen in places,” said Abloh, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s wear and founder of Off-White during a sit-down interview Thursday morning at the new NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center, at 673 North Michigan Avenue.
“We’re in Chicago, it’s usually not a place that has like — it’s known for its art and it’s known for its architecture and design history,” said Abloh. “I think in terms of contemporary art that emanates, me as a contemporary artist emanated around the world to sort of do certain things, it’s sort of a full circle to have them curate a show and recognize that work.”
It was a full-circle connection with Michigan Avenue, as well — this is where his dream to work in fashion began, when he and pal Kanye West visited the Vuitton store just a few blocks away.
“It was this street,” Abloh said.

Life Is Good Teams With Olympian Aly Raisman and Dunkin’ for #SomethingGood

LIFE IS REALLY GOOD: Two years after she designed a T-shirt for the sportswear brand Life Is Good, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman is art it again.
To celebrate its 25th year, the Boston-based company has recruited Aly Raisman and Dunkin’ to try to jump-start a nationwide movement. Collectively with its brand partners, consumers are being challenged to share #SomethingGood. Some might say the former Olympian did just that last year, when she testified against now-convicted former physician Larry Nassar. This Life Is Good-led effort is designed to support children in need.
The aim is to spread the power of optimism so that more individuals will achieve a happy and fulfilling life. That objective has been the brand’s mission since it started years ago. Running through September, the campaign is designed to shift the societal narrative from negative to positive. For every #SomethingGood that is shared online, the company will donate $ 1 to the Life Is Good Kids Foundation. The goal is to reach donating up to $ 1 million.
In addition, 100 percent of the net profits from a new Life Is Good limited-edition #SomethingGood T-shirt will be donated directly to the Life is Good Kids Foundation. The $ 28 T-shirt is available for men

Nicole McLaughlin Talks Sustainable Design, Life on Adidas’ Farm and the Permanence of Books

MISTAKEN IDENTITY: Three years into her consultancy with Reebok as a full-time graphic designer, Nicole McLaughlin personifies the Millennial spirit that sustainability doesn’t have to be boring.
Off the clock, the New Jersey creative repurposes vintage store and eBay finds into one-of-a-kind creations. The slides she made from a magenta JanSport backpack racked up nearly 22,000 likes a few weeks ago. And more recently a pair of pants salvaged from two Columbia Sportswear ski jackets were another winner with her followers. “I have two jobs and to be honest they influence each other,” McLaughlin said Tuesday.
Edging more toward concept designer status, she sees her role in both capacities as “how to reimagine something that exists.” The end result can be mules made from Wilson tennis balls, or an umbrella repurposed with The North Face puffer jackets. Nearing the end of a London-Paris-Amsterdam trip with Reebok, McLaughlin said she steers clear of reimagining products from Reebok competitors like Nike or Under Armour.
In New York at the end of last year for a three-month rotation at “The Farm,” the creative hub in Greenpoint run by Adidas, she worked with seven to 12 apparel, footwear, color and material designers from its Herzogenaurach, Germany, and

Men’s Brands Breathe New Life Onto Bleecker Street

Bleecker Street has become a magnet for men’s wear.
The once-red hot stretch of the West Village stumbled badly over the past few years as nationally known names such as Marc Jacobs, Brunello Cucinelli and Ralph Lauren exited in the face of escalating rents and declining sales.
In fact, at its lowest point last year, there was a 25 percent vacancy rate for all of Bleecker from the East to West Villages, according to Chelsea Mullen, marketing director of the Skylight Group, which has been working to revitalize the street.
Joel Isaacs, founder and president of Isaacs and Co., a key real estate broker for the area, said a primary reason for the “revival” on Bleecker is that “rents have corrected and have gone from $ 600 a square foot to around $ 200.”
But it’s more than just rent that draws people to Bleecker. He said despite the empty storefronts, the street retains its charm and beauty. Residents of the area are very affluent, he said, and everyone — New Yorkers and visitors alike — like to stroll the street.
Slowly and without a lot of fanfare over the last year, many of those vacant storefronts have found new life as independent men’s brands — many of

Boy Meets World’s Danielle Fishel Marries Jensen Karp: ‘The Best Day of My Life’

Danielle Fishel is married!

The Boy Meet’s World alum has tied the knot with Drop the Mic executive producer Jensen Karp, she confirmed on social media over the weekend.

“Mr. & Mrs. Karp. Established 11/04/2018,” Fishel, 37, wrote on Instagram alongside a wedding photo that showed off the delicate, lace short-sleeves of her wedding gown.

Sharing another photo from the nuptials — taken by B.O.B. Photography — Karp, 38, wrote, “Today I married my soulmate. We were surrounded by family and friends and it was the best day of my life.”

He added, “I also ate 3 donuts after dinner. Unrelated. @daniellefishel, I love you so much and thank you for giving me this smile.”

Guests included Fishel’s Boy Meets World costars Ben Savage and Will Friedle, along with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Karp’s groomsman John Mayer, who serenaded the newlyweds with his cover of Beyoncé‘s “XO” for their first dance.

“Jensen brought many new and wonderful friends into my life and the friendship of @johnmayer is at the top of the list. His immense talent is only overshadowed by his humor, his heart, his sincerity, his loyalty, his candor, and his generous spirit,” Fishel captioned a video from the wedding.

“We are beyond grateful and thrilled that he was not only a groomsman but agreed to sing our first dance song. I’m obsessed with his cover of this song (XO by @beyoncé) and he played it for us live at the Forum last year simply because I told him how much I loved it. Thank you, John, for all of it.”

The hottest couple to come out of MTV’s The Challenge: Final Reckoning is about to take the next step in their relationship: tattoos.

Current Challengers Cara Maria Sorbello and her Big Brother alum beau Paulie Calafiore took a break from scaling walls and doing puzzles to appear on MTV’s new series, How Far Is Tattoo Far?, hosted by Jersey Shore queen Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Younger‘s Nico Tortorella.

On the show, each pair designs and selects a tattoo for the other person, only to be revealed after they’ve already been permanently inked.

Sitting on the couch before ink is put to skin, Cara Maria attempts to define her five-month relationship with Paulie: “We’re seeing each other. I guess we’re dating, but it’s not exclusive. It’s not commitment. We’re just enjoying each other while we have each other.”

Snooki isn’t fooled and asks outright, “How’s your sex?”

“It’s… the best I’ve ever had,” Cara Maria confesses. (Wonder what her Challenge exes, Abram Boise and Kyle Christie, think about that!)

While the new couple doesn’t exchange “I love yous,” Paulie hints that he has something he wants to say with that tattoo he’s going to have inked onto Cara Maria. “We tiptoe around a lot of things when it comes to our feelings,” he says. “I’ve got a secret and I’m going to reveal it in this tattoo.”

How Far Is Tattoo Far? airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on MTV.

Patton Oswalt Recalls 2016 Emmys Win After Heartbreak of Wife’s Death: My Life Is ‘Pure Gold’ Now

What a difference two years has made for Patton Oswalt.

The comedian, 49, looked back on how his life has changed after Monday’s 2018 Emmy Awards, sharing touching side-by-side photos on Twitter.

One photo showed Oswalt after the 2016 Emmys, sitting alone with his trophy outside of an Arby’s.

Though he won his first Emmy that year — an outstanding writing for a variety special honor given to him in celebration of his Netflix special, Talking for Clapping — the star had a sullen expression on his face. The awards show followed not long after his late wife, crime writer Michelle McNamara, had died unexpectedly in her sleep in April 2016 at age 46.

Oswalt’s second photo was far more joyful. Sitting outside of the same Arby’s, he was lacking the Emmy — having lost at Monday’s show in the same category, where he was nominated for his Netflix special, Annihilation. But his wife Meredith Salenger sat beside him, locking lips with the star in the picture.

“Two years ago versus today,” Oswalt captioned the images. “No Emmy this time, but a life that’s turned pure gold thanks to @MeredthSalenger.”

RELATED: Patton Oswalt on Why He Remarried 18 Months After His Wife’s Sudden Death

Missing from the photo was Oswalt’s daughter Alice Rigney, 9 — his only child with McNamara. She was instrumental in helping Oswalt through his grief after McNamara’s passing.

“If I hadn’t had a daughter and my wife died, we wouldn’t be talking right now. I’m not saying I would be dead, but I would be a shut-in alcoholic,” he revealed in a 2017 interview with Playboy. “Everything would have shut down. I wouldn’t have been about anything. But with Alice, it was and is ‘You got to get up.’ ”

Both Alice and McNamara got a shout-out in Oswalt’s 2016 Emmy’s speech. “I want to share this with two people,” he said. “One of them is my daughter Alice, waiting at home. The other one is… waiting somewhere else, I hope.”

RELATED VIDEO: Patton Oswalt and His Daughter Introduce His New Wife to Her ‘First Ever’ Christmas Tree

Oswalt tied the knot with Salenger, 48, in November 2017, four months after their engagement. The duo had gone public with their romance that June.

“I’ve only ever felt that level of joy once before in my life, and it was so profound and perfect it felt greedy to ever wish for it again,” Oswalt told PEOPLE exclusively following the couple’s nuptials.

He added, “But I did, so now all I can do is show Meredith a level of gratitude and love that’s greater than the joy she’s brought me, and my daughter Alice. Because this is a new level of joy, and a new life, and I’ll always strive to deserve it.”

Denise Richards Marries ‘Love of My Life’ Aaron Phypers in Intimate Malibu Wedding

Surprise! Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers got married just two days after PEOPLE exclusively announced their engagement.

The whirlwind wedding took place Saturday in Malibu, with the bride and groom’s closest family and friends in attendance.

Next season, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will include footage of the wedding, some of which Bravo released Saturday.

Richards beamed as he added, “We’re married. Love you, baby.”

Then the couple leaned in for a kiss in front of a large floral arrangement and the ocean.

“I am so happy to officially be married to the love of my life,” Richards told Bravo’s The Daily Dish of the nuptials. “I can’t wait for everyone to go on this incredible journey with me this season on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It has been a wild ride so far!”

“Denise and Aaron just want a small group of people to be at the wedding, really just their inner circle,” a source told PEOPLE after the engagement. “They’ve both done this before and this time just want to exchange vows in front of the people who are most important.”

The couple began dating in December 2017. Phypers finalized his divorce from Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan last month — two years after they separated following just six months of marriage.

Richards was married to Charlie Sheen from 2002-06, and they share two daughters: Sam, 14, and Lola, 13. (She is also mom to daughter Eloise, 7.)

In recent weeks, the Wild Things actress has been photographed filming the Bravo reality show, which is expected to premiere before the end of the year.

She’s done it before and knows how to navigate life on and off camera even when the show gets blurred with reality. Strange Brigade Brings to Life Pulp Adventure in Every Way

Strange Brigade rests upon the pulpiest of premises. An ancient tomb somewhere in Africa has been disturbed by a British archaeologist, releasing the vengeful spirit of Queen Seteki and a host of horrors, from giant scorpions to hordes of shambling mummies. To clear up this unholy mess, the British government despatches the eponymous team.

It’s a really fun premise and rich setting, which neatly blends the Victorian high adventure novels of H.Rider Haggard, the anxious Imperial gothic of Arthur Conan Doyle, and the rollicking Saturday morning matinees that inspired Indiana Jones into a spirited confection. Setting and tone are undoubtedly Strange Brigade’s greatest strengths and most endearing attributes.

New Mom Brigitte Nielsen Turns 55 and Couldn’t Be Happier: It’s the ‘Best Time in My Life’

Life is fabulous at 55 for Brigitte Nielsen.

The Danish-Italian actress celebrates her birthday on Sunday, less than a month after welcoming her fifth child (and first daughter!), Frida.

“Celebrating my birthday has never been more exciting,” she exclusively tells PEOPLE of the special occasion. “It’s the best time in my life, with my adorable little Frida, my wonderful husband and four beautiful grown-up sons.”

She adds, “Life is amazing, you only get one, so take good care of it, and live it to the fullest.”

Nielsen and her husband, Italian model Mattia Dessi, previously gave PEOPLE an exclusive look at the little raven-haired beauty, who arrived safely in a Los Angeles hospital on June 22, weighing 5 lbs., 9 oz, and measuring 19 inches long.

“We are overjoyed to welcome our beautiful daughter into our lives,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s been a long road, and so worth it. We’ve never been more in love.”

Nielsen made headlines when she revealed on Instagram on May 30 that — at age 54 — she was pregnant with her fifth child. The star of Red Sonja and Beverly Hills Cop II — who has been married five times — previously had all boys: Raoul Meyer Jr., 23, Douglas Meyer, 25, Killian Gastineau, 28, and Julian Winding, 34.

Nielsen, who was married to actor Sylvester Stallone from 1985-87, wed Dessi in July 2006. Daughter Frida is their first child together.

Last week, Nielsen celebrated the couple’s wedding anniversary with a silly shot of the duo eating ice cream.

“12yr marriage today and we still have love&fun with just being together❤#love #together,” she said.

The star previously opened up about wanting to have more kids in August 2008.

Why Evangeline Lilly Changed Her Life After Lost — And Moved to Hawaii!

Evangeline Lilly went through a major shift after wrapping up on the TV show that made her famous: J.J. Abrams’ Lost.

Despite the series’ incredible success, the British Columbia native, 38, struggled with becoming a household name.

“I was never enamored by the idea of fame,” she tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, admitting she went through “a pretty dark time” coming to terms with being a public figure.

For more about Lilly, check out this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands now.

In fact, she planned on retiring from acting after Lost ended in 2010, and for two years enjoyed life off the grid, moving to Hawaii with her partner, Norman Kali, who worked in film production and is now a stay-at-home dad.

She took up surfing and wrote scripts and children’s books. Lilly also settled into the role of mom, having two sons.

But when Peter Jackson offered her a role in The Hobbit movies, she couldn’t turn it down.

Same with 2015’s Ant-Man, in which she stars opposite Paul Rudd’s titular superhero as Hope Pym, a scientist who goes on to become a crime fighter in the movie’s sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Lilly says she had to find a way to “make peace” with working in Hollywood and “embrace all the things that made me uncomfortable.” She did—and she has her low-key island home life to keep her grounded.

“I had to find a place in which I could be happy,” she says. “And now I very much am.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp is out Friday.

Saloni Lodha, Eugenie Niarchos Bring Obsessions to Life With New RTW Collaboration

TEAMWORK: Designer Saloni Lodha and fine jeweler Eugenie Niarchos have brought their mutual obsessions — traveling, bright colors, embellishments — to life via a new ready-to-wear capsule collection that will drop in September.
After continuously sharing ideas and meeting in different places across the globe, the longtime friends finally decided to create something together. “We would travel to Bombay and to Hong Kong, pick up references from each place and talk about all the different dresses we wanted to design and where each style would work,” said Lodha, whose label, Saloni is best known for its vibrant, printed dresses.
“I think I can get into Eugenie’s head and we love all the same things,” the designer added during the launch lunch at Dartmouth House in London’s Mayfair.

Mom of Pregnant Gunshot Victim Who Stayed on Life Support for Weeks to Deliver Baby Says, ‘She Held on For Him’

The mother of a slain pregnant woman who stayed on life support for weeks after being shot so she could have her baby considers the child as a “blessing” even as she mourns her daughter’s loss.

Ohio mom Lindzie Wilson, 25, was shot on March 1 but stayed on life support through April 21, when doctors delivered her baby boy, Bailee. Lindzie, a mom of two other young boys, was subsequently taken off life support and died on April 24, authorities have said.

The fatal shooting, which took place outside of Lindzie’s Springfield home, is still unsolved.

Her mom, LeighAnne Roberts, tells PEOPLE she’s proud her daughter “fought hard for Bailee. She held on for him. She held on as long as she possibly could.”

Bailee was born at 24 weeks and is currently in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit, Roberts says, but his long-term prognosis is good: “He’s doing as good as he can” be, says Roberts, who will raise the child.

Roberts is looking forward to Aug. 15 — Lindzie’s due date — when Bailee is taken out of the incubator and she can hold him.

“He’s definitely a blessing,” she says. “I’m sure up there watching this and is happy about how things went.”

Roberts says that doctors described Bailee’s survival as a “miracle”: One of the bullets that struck Lindzie went through her shoulder and traveled diagonally to her opposite hip, narrowly avoiding her unborn child.

“I would have loved for the miracle for to survive it,” she says. “But there was no hope from day one.”

The choice to take Lindzie of life support, she says, was really no choice at all: It had been 54 days and Lindzie’s condition hadn’t improved.

Still, she says the decision to part with her only daughter brought her “indescribable pain. That’s all I can really say.”

Lindzie was an outgoing, generous person who had been accepted into the Naval Academy before her first pregnancy, her mom says. She loved country music and outdoor activities like dirt biking.

Most of all, she loved her children: She was a “hands-on” mom to her two sons Brendan, 8, and Bentley, 5, who are now being cared for by their father.

“She loved her kids deeply,” Roberts says, adding, “Her smile made you smile.”

Lindzie, says Roberts, had “the most gorgeous blue eyes” as well as blond hair — the latter a trait she shares with little Bailee.

The pain of her death is compounded by the fact that it’s still unsolved, says Roberts.

Police have not named a suspect in the attack, and in a recent press conference, Springfield Police Chief Lee Graf called on the public’s help in the investigation.

Graf declined to say whether police think Wilson knew her attacker.

The thought that Lindzie’s attacker is still at large is “very discouraging,” says Roberts.

Referencing Lindzie’s sons, Roberts says, “I want justice for them. All three of them have to grow up without their mom.”

Anyone with information on the shooting should call 937-324-7685 or 937-324-7716, police have said.

British Toddler at Center of Legal Battle Dies After Being Taken Off Life Support: ‘Heartbroken’

Alfie Evans, the 23-month-old terminally ill British boy at the center of a headline-making legal battle, has died just five days after he was taken off life support, his parents announced.

“Our baby boy grew his wings tonight at 2:30 am,” wrote his mother Kate James, 20, on Facebook early Saturday. “We are heartbroken. Thank you everyone for all your support 💙

His father, 21-year-old Thomas Evans, also wrote on Facebook, “My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings at 02:30 😥😢😥😢😥 absolutely heartbroken💔😭 I LOVE YOU MY GUY💙💙💙👨‍👦👨‍👦.”

Alfie initially survived in the days after medical staff at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital cut off his life assistance, Evans said. Alfie continued to live despite being in a “semi-vegetative state” as a result of a mystery degenerative neurological condition, surprising doctors who said further attempts to treat the boy would be futile, according to the BBC. Alfie initially survived on his own for six hours on Monday before doctors provided the child with oxygen and hydration.

“We wish to express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Alfie’s family at this extremely distressing time,” Alder Hey Children’s Hospital said in a statement. “All of us feel deeply for Alfie, Kate, Tom and his whole family and our thoughts are with them. This has been a devastating journey for them and we would ask that their privacy and the privacy of staff at Alder Hey is respected.”

The hospital also announced a makeshift memorial for the boy.

“We feel sure people will wish to place tributes to Alfie along with messages of support for Kate and Tom,” Alder Hey Hospital said. “To ensure there is sufficient space for these and to ensure the safety of all those who wish to visit, we have secured a suitable place in Springfield Park situated next to Alder Hey Hospital. This is on the advice of Merseyside Police.”

Evans and James have been in a lengthy battle to keep the ailing toddler on life support. Alfie has been at the hospital since December 2016.

However, a series of court rulings sided with doctors who said there was no hope for the boy, according to the Washington Post. The BBC reported that doctors argued that keeping Alfie on a ventilator would be “futile,” “unkind and inhumane.” Most recently, the European Court of Human Rights rejected the parents’ request to keep doctors at the Liverpool hospital from taking Alfie off of the assistance.

“I faught (sic) hard in court for my son because I know what’s right!!” the grieving father wrote in a Facebook post after the court’s decision. “And look where we are now my son is still ALIVE AFTER OVER 10 horrendous scary heartbreaking hours.”

The human rights court’s decision upheld that of Britain’s Supreme Court, in which justices said it would be pointless to take Alfie to Rome for treatment.

Still, the head of the Vatican’s Bambino Gesu Pediatric Hospital said the Italian defense ministry had a plane ready and waiting to take Alfie to Italy for treatment if the additional Tuesday hearing grants the family’s appeal, according to the Associated Press.

On Monday, Pope Francis even voiced his support for Alfie.

“Moved by the prayers and immense solidarity shown little Alfie Evans, I renew my appeal that the suffering of his parents may be heard and that their desire to seek new forms of treatment may be granted,” the Pope tweeted.

In a fundraiser for Alfie, the family wrote that he was born “healthy and on time” in May 2016. However, the parents soon noticed Alfie was not accomplishing common milestones like lifting his head, maintaining eye contact and eating with his hands, according to the Just Giving fundraising page. Doctors initially believed the boy was simply a “late developer,” but became concerned when he began experiencing spasms and developed an infection.

The situation is similar to that of another London couple, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, whose son, Charlie, died in July after a lengthy court battle to treat the terminally ill 11-month-old baby. Earlier this year, Takesha Thomas and Lanre Haastrup lost their son, Isaiah, after a judge ruled that doctors could stop providing intensive care treatment to the boy who suffered brain damage.
