Adam Driver Had No Problem with That Shirtless Scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: ‘He Knew He Looked Good’

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for those who have NOT yet seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Proceed with caution!

After 40 years of Star Wars films, the franchise’s loyal fanbase have come to expect and rely on seeing certain elements in each new film. Things like: lightsaber battles, The Force, cute creatures, Droids, etc.

One of the scenes that fans did not expect to see in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is what writer/director Rian Johnson calls its “beefcake” moment. i.e. when, during one of their surprisingly intimate, Force-enhanced, mind-over-matter-time-and-space conversations, Adam Driver‘s Kylo Ren surprises Daisy Ridley‘s Rey by appearing shirtless.

Rey’s startled reaction — a request that he cover himself with a towel or something — is as appropriate as it is hilarious, for the characters and the audience. But how did we get here, exactly? PEOPLE recently caught up with Johnson to ask him how that scene came to be and whether or not Driver was shy about that “beefcake” moment.

“It’s all about those Force connection scenes,” Johnson says. “The keyword being intimacy. And the idea that this was a way to just, why not step that up? The idea that, what’s even more uncomfortable having a conversation face to face with a person you don’t want to, is if they’re half-naked during it, while you’re having to do it. And so it was just another way of kind of disrobing Kylo literally and figuratively a little bit more, and pushing that sense of these conversations becoming increasingly more intimate.”

Not to mention the fact that by this point during filming, Driver’s physique was particularly photogenic.

“Adam looks so damn good because he’d been training hardcore for the past six months for those fight scenes. I’m like, ‘Eh. He looks so good. We should put him up there.’ ”

And how did Driver feel about his beefcake moment? Was he shy about it?

“No, no, he’s good. He’s great,” assures Johnson. “He knew he looked good.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now playing in theaters everywhere.

Azealia Banks Looked Cheeky at the Moncler x Greg Lauren Launch

REAR WINDOW: Azealia Banks, “Vampire Diaries” actress Kat Graham and the designer Peter Dundas turned out for the launch of Moncler’s special collection with the artist and designer Greg Lauren during Paris Fashion Week.
The collection, dubbed Collide, features iconic Moncler puffer jackets torn off at the waist and stitched together with vintage pieces including Dickies jumpsuits, military uniforms and jean jackets.
At the VNH Gallery in the Marais, a number of the looks were displayed in a special tent that echoed the look of the collection — seeming to have been ripped and sewn back together with one half in blue puffer and the other in a military-inspired canvas.
The rapper Banks also opted for a deconstructed look, rolling up to the party in a pair of barely there Daisy Dukes that were cut into a thong in the back.
The collection by Greg Lauren — who is the nephew of designer Ralph — is the latest in a string of collaborations with artists and performers that Moncler has forged since 2004, including with Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garçons, Pharrell Williams and the Rolling Stones.
Each of around 200 pieces created by Lauren for the collection is unique and limited edition. The collection will be available from the

Gulping Gargoyles, J.K. Rowling Looked Incredible At The BAFTAs

J.K. Rowling took a break from owning trolls on Twitter to owning the BAFTAs red carpet on Sunday.

The author looked straight-up magical in a long-sleeved, fitted maroon gown with a thigh-high slit.

She paired the gown with purple pumps, a sparkly clutch and some serious statement earrings.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” took home an award for best production design, but we’d say Rowling herself won the award for best selfie of the night, posing with “Beasts” star Eddie Redmayne and Emma Stone.

Swoon. So much to obsess over, so little time. Check out the rest of the looks from the show:

Tom Hanks Still Loves How His Buttocks Looked In ‘Forrest Gump’

Tom Hanks can’t get enough of how good his butt looked while starring as the titular character in the 1994 movie “Forrest Gump.”

“I had worked out quite a bit, it was all about running and I must say my buttocks, as Forrest would say, were as firm as tinned hams,” he told “The Graham Norton Show” in footage aired in the United Kingdom on Friday.

Hanks noted how his wife, Rita Wilson, reacts each time she sees the movie on cable television. “I want to see that one scene where you’re running away from the camera, and we can look at that fine Hanks ass!”

Some 22 years later, Hanks admitted his rear now looked different. “But in the day, man, I must say I even think it’s a beautiful thing to behold,” he added.

Check it out in the clip above.

Princess Victoria Looked Amazing in an Under-$100 ASOS Dress

A pregnant Princess Victoria just reminded us that sometimes stellar style needn’t cost much at all. The royal just stepped out in Peru wearing a star print dress from ASOS that costs $ 99 (and is still available to shop!). The maternity style is perfect for expectant moms thanks to the cinch empire waist, ideal for positioning wherever an individual bump requires. Don’t forget Kate Middleton mined the budget-friendly retailer too, rocking this polka dot maternity style when pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

The dress currently for sale on the ASOS site is a maxi, whereas Victoria is clearly in a shorter version. It’s possible that her style has sold out or is not yet available yet, but more likely she’s pulling the Kate Middleton-beloved royal switcheroo trick, altering an off-the-rack piece to make it fit for a specific occasion.

Here’s What The MTV VMAs Looked Like In 2005

It was only a decade ago,  but photos from the 2005 MTV VMAs feel like they happened in another lifetime.

Held at the American Airlines Arena in Miami for the second year in a row, the 21st annual VMAs were a weird storm — literally — as many of the pre-show actives were canceled as Hurricane Katrina hit Southern Florida, passing over Miami.

With the 2015 VMAs days away, let’s remember that 10 years ago Diddy hosted, Green Day took home Video of the Year, Kanye West nabbed Best Male Video, and The Killers were named Best New Artist. Also, pop-punk was heavily repped.

I Wore Melissa McCarthy’s Clothing Line for a Week and Here’s What It Looked Like

After being in the works for over a year, Melissa McCarthy’s clothing line is finally here. As its September 1 launch approaches, the funny lady is putting all jokes aside and getting serious about making her mark in fashion.

“I was not OK with the [plus-size fashion landscape], so I decided to do what I could to change it,” she told Glamour at a preview of her first-ever fashion line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, which will be sold in Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Lane Bryant stores. “A size 14 is the number one size in the country, and we’re telling those women something’s wrong with them by sticking plus-size clothing with the tires and not in the women’s department. We need to stop thinking of plus-size women and just think of women. We need to stop putting everyone in these categories and putting a negative spin on it. Women do not stop at a 12, so why should clothes?”

Melissa-McCarthy-Seven7

On that note, McCarthy’s collection will be made in an extensive range of sizes, from a 4 to 28—and feature basics, signature prints, and her hand-picked must-haves. “I thought, What do I wear in a week? I designed selfishly with things I want in my own closet,” said the actress. “I wanted to do basics with great detail that are easy to mix—all so that the customer can dress for her mood.”

Overall, the collection is super wearable and will be easy to integrate into anyone’s closet. Our favorite pieces? The long-line knit vest, printed Le Meow sweater (side note: her seven-year-old daughter Vivian drew that graphic!), and uber-flattering pencil skirt. Don’t just take our word for it—check out how to wear the collection IRL, right here:

MM-collection-03

Monday: Sweater
“Needing a little more on your bust does not mean that your wrist is the size of a stop sign!” says McCarthy. “I don’t think people have necessarily looked at the clothing on the body. I went to every fitting and got down on my hands and knees pinning to make the clothes proportional. You can’t just grade up the cuts of clothing, you have to make adjustments in design.”

MM-collection-01

Tuesday: Checkered Skirt
The designer explained, “I wore all the pieces for a full day and made adjustments after that. At first, the waistband in the skirt was a little too tight. I changed that and some lengths too. With those adjustments and everything that’s in there as a base, it’s like a built-in foundation. You don’t need to double up and wear all the underpinnings [like Spanx].”

MM-collection-04-MOD

Wednesday: Checkered Pants
“Somebody said to me, ‘Oh, no one plus-size wants a patterned pant!’ But I was making patterned pants for myself all the time—because I can’t find them in stores—and people were asking me where I got them,” she says.

MM-collection-05

Thursday: Knit Vest
“The basics are stylish but really versatile,” says McCarthy. “With the simpler pieces, I want the woman to be the statement. The long-lines are a little chicer and really forgiving. If you don’t like it, nothing’s easier than taking up a hem.”

MM-collection-02

Friday: Flannel Shirt
“I think we do so much tearing down of women. In the same amount of time with the same amount of energy, you can lift them up. If me doing a clothing line that’s like, ‘Yeah, wear the checkered pants! Wear the flannel! Wear the damn cheetah print, I beg you!’ helps lift them up, that’s amazing. We only get one go around, have a little fun,” she says. Amen!
