Jane Fonda to Deliver Women in Motion Talk in Paris

WOMAN IN MOTION: Kering’s Women in Motion initiative will honor Jane Fonda with a retrospective at the Cinémathèque Française that will kick off with a talk with the actress and activist on Oct. 22, the French luxury group said on Tuesday.
Fonda will discuss her career and causes with Costa-Gavras, president of the Cinémathèque Française, and Frédéric Bonnaud, its head. The talk will be followed by a screening of “Klute,” for which Fonda won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1971.
The 80-year-old, who is also due to receive the Prix Lumière in Lyon on Oct. 19, has long been active in causes ranging from civil rights to feminism. Picking up the inaugural Women in Motion award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015, Fonda said she was still campaigning for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.
“You know, 73 percent of Americans think we’ve passed it, but we haven’t. We scold Iraq and Iran and Afghanistan for how they treat women, but we don’t even have an Equal Rights Amendment,” she told WWD at the time.
Fonda, who is a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, is also campaigning to create more entertainment content for older women, such as her Netflix series “Grace

2018 Cannes Film Festival: ‘Wonder Woman’ Director Patty Jenkins Wins 2018 Women in Motion Award

WONDER WOMAN: With the Cannes International Film Festival set to open on May 8, this year’s Women in Motion award will go to American film director and screenwriter Patty Jenkins – director of films including “Monster” and “Wonder Woman,” the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman – Kering announced Friday.
The “Wonder Woman” sequel, helmed by Jenkins, as well, is currently in preproduction. The director also recently wrapped production on her TNT six-episode, limited drama “One Day She’ll Darken,” on which she also serves as executive producer.
Kering chief François-Henri Pinault will present the prize at a dinner hosted by the luxury group during the festival on May 13, joined by the film festival’s president and general delegate, Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux.
“The past year has represented in many ways a turning point in the fight for gender equality,” Pinault said in a statement, lauding the changes Jenkins “has brought about, as much in the film industry as in the performances.”
“A true source of inspiration for new generations of women in cinema, she has shown them that anything is possible. And because with “Wonder Woman” she has shaped such a true superhero, she has enabled the young generations to imagine a world that can be saved by

Molly Goddard Puts on ‘Fashion in Motion’ Show at the V&A

MOLLY’S WORLD: British designer Molly Goddard staged a show at the V&A’s newly opened Sainsbury Gallery — and took the opportunity to introduce pieces from her first pre-collection — as part of the museum’s ongoing Fashion in Motion series.
The range was more wearable than her fantastical main line, with its outsized proportions and sweeps of tulle. They also featured more pattern, from floral prints to tartan ones.
Goddard said the pre-collection was also inspired “by all the bit I love from the V&A’s collection, from embroidery to 17th-century underwear and a section on punk.”
It was the first show that Goddard hosted outside the official fashion week calendar. The Fashion in Motion series is for members of the public and the lines to enter Goddard’s show wound all the way around the museum.
“We made a lot of effort to make the show really special — it’s the biggest one we’ve ever done. It’s great not to have the pressure to produce things that are on-trend or seasonal,” said the designer, adding that she and her sister Alice had fun picking our their favorite designs.
She said their selection included some the “most ridiculous and unwearbale” pieces she has produced. They included a tiered

2017 Cannes Film Festival: Isabelle Huppert Named Face of Kering’s Women in Motion Program

WOMAN IN MOTION: Kering has chosen award-winning actress Isabelle Huppert as the face of the third edition of its Women in Motion program at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
The French actress, who won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar this year for her performance in Paul Verhoeven’s “Elle,” will appear on the official poster for the program of events, which ranges from talks with industry figures to the Women in Motion Awards, to be handed out at a dinner on May 21.
Kering, an official partner of the festival since 2015, said it chose Huppert because of her exceptional career and her strong links to the festival. Huppert follows in the footsteps of Frances McDormand, the face of last year’s event, and Jane Birkin, who was chosen to represent the inaugural edition of the program.

Shaolin Qi Gong: Energy in Motion

Shaolin Qi Gong: Energy in Motion

Authentic qi gong as practiced in the Shaolin Temple where this discipline originated centuries ago – Reveals the fundamental spiritual principles and includes both a short and long form of the daily exercises – Explains the benefits of mastering energy in the body, such as organ strengthening – Includes a 53-minute DVD of exercises performed by the author, a Shaolin monk The great teacher Bodhidharma is credited with the creation of Shaolin Temple qi gong and kung fu in the 6th century CE. Motivated by the terrible physical condition of the monks who spent all their time meditating or copying scrolls, his two-part system promoted physical as well as spiritual fitness and became the basis for all the martial and meditative arts taught in the Shaolin Temple. These ancient practices increase physical health and vitality, enhance creativity, and can be practiced well into old age. Author Shi Xinggui, a Shaolin monk, explains the fundamental principle of qi gong-the art of mastering energy (qi) and moving it through the body-and provides clear demonstrations of all the positions and movements. In order to develop qi attentively, it is necessary to cultivate the art of slowness in both movement and breathwork. Shi Xinggui provides both a short form and a long form of the daily exercises, with lessons on heart centering, organ strengthening, and balancing the energy using the three dantians-the three energy centers of the body. A 53-minute DVD of the exercises performed by the author is also included.

Matter, Ether and Motion – The Factors and Relations of Physical Science

Matter, Ether and Motion – The Factors and Relations of Physical Science

In the past fifty years the advance in physical knowledge has not only been rapid, but it has been revolutionary. The fundamental principles of natural philosophy that were applied by Sir Isaac Newton and others to masses of visible magnitude have been applied to molecules; and it has thus been discovered that all kinds of phenomena are subject to the same mechanical laws. It was thought before that physics embraced several distinct provinces of knowledge which were not necessarily related to each other, such as mechanics, heat, & electricity. Such terms as imponderable matter, latent heat, electric fluid, forces of nature, and others in common use in text-books and elsewhere, served to maintain the distinctions; and even to-day some of these obsolete physical agencies are to be met in books and places where one would hope not to find them. As all physical phenomena are reducible to the principles of mechanics, atoms and molecules are subject to them as much as masses of visible magnitude; and it has become apparent that however different one phenomenon is from another, the factors of both are the same-matter, ether, and motion; so that all the so-called forces of nature, considered as objective things controlling phenomena, are seen to have no existence; that all phenomena are reducible to nothing more mysterious than a push or a pull. Some say that science is simply classified knowledge. To the author it is more than that, it is a consistent body of knowledge; and a true explanation of any phenomenon cannot be inconsistent with the best established body of knowledge we have. If physical factors are fundamental, then theorizers must square their theories to them. One may often hear the question asked, What is electricity? But a similar question as to the nature of heat or light or chemism is just as pertinent, although there chances now to be less popular interest in these than in the former; not, however, because they are in themselves better understood, or l

Kering to Launch ‘Women in Motion’ in Cannes

GIRLS ON FILM: Kering is deepening its ties with cinema.
Having signed a five-year-deal with the Cannes International Film Festival, the French luxury group said Monday it would launch the first edition of “Women in Motion,” an event highlighting women’s contributions, at this year’s festival, which is slated to run from May 13 to 24 on the French Riviera.
Throughout the competition, Kering and the Festival de Cannes are to host talks focusing on a number of issues including women’s status, their representation on screen and within the film industry, as well as their perspectives behind the camera.
“The artistic sensibility of women and the specific nature of female narration are an integral part of the richness of cinema. The ‘Women in Motion’ program does not just aim at highlighting the talent of women in cinema, but also emphasizes the interest of their work for audiences. Enhancing their visibility is essential when we consider the impact that films have on our ways of thinking and, ultimately, our everyday behavior,” said Francois-Henri Pinault, Kering’s chairman and chief executive officer.
As of 2016, Kering is to launch two “Women in Motion” Awards: one recognizing “a significant contribution to the cause of women in cinema,” the other

15 Minutes Of Lions In Slow Motion On A GoPro Cam Is Pure Bliss, But Are Lions Becoming Endangered?

Self-proclaimed animal behaviorist and lion whisperer, Kevin Richardson, has a controversial relationship with animals, to say the least.

Footage of his trip to Pretoria, South Africa, reveals his extremely close encounters with his lion and hyena friends, and many argue that the interactions are much too close for comfort.

Regardless of what you think about Richardson, it’s hard to deny the majesty of the big cats when they are viewed through a GoPo lens, and are in slow motion.

The camera effect makes it feel as though you are with them, and you will want to reach out to touch the animals through your screen. They just look so soft!

Richardson warns that lions may be the next endangered species because of the damage to their habitat, and hopes to use his unique relationship with them to bring attention to the fact that wildlife in Africa is suffering.

Lions are not officially listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, even though their population has dramatically decreased in a short period of time. According to a study by researchers at Duke University, lion populations in Africa have gone down by almost two-thirds over the last 50 years. The study shows that in the 1950s there were as many as 100,000 lions on the continent, but now there may be as few 32,000.

Because they are not yet recognized as endangered, the big cats are not protected by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and it is legal to import lion trophies and parts into the U.S.

The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’s mission is to preserve African carnivores through education, awareness and funding. The sanctuary aims to bring awareness to “the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.”

To make a donation to Richardson’s cause, visit the PAW Conservation Trust.
