The Only Agency Opens London Office

Management company The Only Agency has opened a London office to expand its presence from New York and L.A. to Europe. The agency, which represents hairstylists, makeup artists and fashion stylists, has a roster that includes Law Roach, Maeve Reilly, Erica Cloud, Cristina Ehrlich, B Akerlund, Fabio Immediato, Joey Maalouf and more. “Working with such a vast group of celebrity talent and visionaries, The Only Agency has always had an international presence. Thus, it was only a matter of time that we established a global home base for our talent and expanded our brand internationally,” said founder Kent Belden. “When deciding where this expansion would take place, London immediately came to mind as one of the top fashion and media hubs of Europe. In addition to London being an incubator to some of the most inspiring talent in the world, the combination of London’s proximity/accessibility to the crux of the European market, it’s lively energy, and creative nature, made opening an office there the logical next step.” The office has four full-time team members, and talent is already working with celebrities including Maisie Williams and the Spice Girls. “To navigate that complex intersection where two industries, fashion and entertainment, cross over takes acumen,

Selfridges Unveils New Generation Office Space

NEW HUB: After a long and ambitious renovation project of its accessories and men’s wear departments, Selfridges is now applying its flair for creative architecture and experiences to its executive, buying and merchandising offices, located on Duke Street, next to its London store. For the refurbishment project, the British retailer appointed architect Alex Cochrane, a longtime collaborator, to transform the department store’s 19,700-square-foot head office — a process that took up to two years to complete. The aim was to create a more creative and collaborative workspace environment, as well as incorporate sustainable design elements. Cue pink glass telephone booths, bright red box seats in a dedicated table tennis area and glossy green or magenta shelves. The space also features materials such as renewable wood paneling and solar panels to further the retailer’s commitment to sustainability. Earlier this year, the retailer also announced plans to ban exotic skins from its store as part of its sustainability efforts. It’s also ditching assigned work spaces in favor of open-plan workrooms in its buying and merchandizing area — dubbed the Hub — in a bid to be more aligned to the nomadic nature of the buying team’s busy travel schedule. The company added that everything within the space,

John Leguizamo Says He’s Willing to Give Up Acting to Run for Office

John Leguizamo, creator of the Broadway show Latin History for Morons, has never shied away from using his immense platform to voice his opinions, especially to criticize the polices and actions of President Donald Trump. Now, the actor reveals his willingness to sacrifice his life’s passions —  acting and writing — to stand up for his beliefs by launching a political campaign.

Although the 53-year-old continues to add more projects to his plate, the Latino actor admitted that he would give up his decades-long career to thwart the advancement of the new political today: “You know, I love what I do. I would hate to give it up,” Leguizamo told DailyBeast.com. “But if I could I would run for office in Texas. I would run someplace heinous to make a difference.”

Leguizamo’s Broadway show, which chronicles the long, illustrious, often fraught history of Latinos in the U.S., serves as an inspiration for his political agenda. “I would run… to get rid of gerrymandering and to allow people to teach Latino history in Texas which is 39 percent Latino and around 12 percent black, so we people of color are the majority. Why are we so beaten down there?”

But the actor isn’t going to wait for his day in office. The Carlito’s Way star will use his current work to affect the change he wants to see in the world starting in November 2018. During the next election season, Leguizamo wants to take Latin History for Morons to major cities like Chicago, Denver, Miami and many more to galvanize Latinos to get involved: “Latinos need to be motivated to be re-motivated, and maybe even inspired for the first time to understand how much right they have to speak out and stand up for themselves,” he told the online magazine.

Al Franken Accuser Leeann Tweeden Does Not Want Him Driven From Office

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Leeann Tweeden, the woman who spoke out Thursday to accuse Al Franken of kissing and groping her in 2006 without her consent, said Friday morning that she is not asking for the Minnesota Senator to be removed from office.

Tweeden, a TV host and sports broadcaster, sat down with ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday where she revealed to co-anchor Robin Roberts that she only came forward with her story so that other victims would be empowered to share their own experiences with sexual misconduct.

“I didn’t do this to have him step down. I think Al Franken does a lot of good things in the Senate,” Tweeden said when asked if he should resign. “You know, I think that’s for the people of Minnesota to decide. I’m not calling for him to step down. That was never my intention.

“I just wanted him to understand what he did was wrong and how he treated me and how abusers do that under the guise that it’s funny, or that ‘Oh, I can get away with it because I’m a comedian,’ Tweeden continued. “That’s never funny. When you shine a light on it, that’s the culture of it — that’s the chance we need to make.”

Though it’s been over 10 years since the alleged incident, Tweeden said she never let go of the negative feelings about it. “I stayed quiet, but I was angry,” Tweeden said on GMA, adding that she hadn’t spoken out about the alleged incident before because it was “a different time,” and that her now-husband had warned her she would face career consequences and would be “victimized.”

It wasn’t until California Rep. Jackie Speier shared her own account of sexual assault as a young congressional aide that Tweeden felt inspired to come forward.

“That happened to me … that was my sign, Tweeden said. “I think if I don’t speak up now, I’m going to forever hold that and keep it with me forever. That was my moment to speak up.”

She did so — telling her story in a blog post Thursday in which she claimed the Minnesota Democrat touched her breasts as she was sleeping while the two were on a USO Tour to entertain troops in December 2006.

“I’ve decided it’s time to tell my story. #MeToo,” Tweeden tweeted alongside the photo.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Franken, 66, quickly apologized for the incident in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, saying: “I certainly don’t remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies to Leeann. As to the photo, it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn’t. I shouldn’t have done it.”

The former Saturday Night Live star later issued a longer statement, also obtained by PEOPLE, in which he apologized again and said “there’s no excuse” for his actions in the photo. “I don’t know what was in my head when I took that picture, and it doesn’t matter,” he said. “There’s no excuse. I look at it now and I feel disgusted with myself. It isn’t funny. It’s completely inappropriate. It’s obvious how Leeann would feel violated by that picture.”

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

He also referenced the recent wave of sexual misconduct allegations that have been leveled against men of power in various industries, and said that it has forced men to think about the impact their actions have on women.

“Over the past few months, all of us — including and especially men who respect women — have been forced to take a good, hard look at our own actions and think (perhaps, shamefully, for the first time) about how those actions have affected women,” Franken said.

President Donald Trump, who has also been accused of sexually harassing numerous women over the years, also tweeted about the controversy Thursday night, writing “The Al Frankenstien picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. Where do his hands go in pictures 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 while she sleeps? ….”

“.And to think that just last week he was lecturing anyone who would listen about sexual harassment and respect for women. Lesley Stahl tape?”

Tweeden, who also gave a press conference on Thursday in which she said she accepted Franken’s apology and was not calling for him to step down, reiterated to GMA that she has forgiven him.

“The first apology sounded like a staffer. That was very quick yesterday morning when I first talked about it,” Tweeden said. ‘And I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, a two sentence apology. I accepted that as well politicians need to really get ahead of the game. ‘I apologize, that was inappropriate that wasn’t me,’ … ‘Alright.’ ”

“The second apology, I think once things started happening in the media, the second one was definitely heartfelt,” she added. “I do accept it. I think he realized how people felt about it and now it’s a different time. 2006 is not 2017.”

She also said that she had seen Franken over the years with her husband. “I was very cold to him then and he had a chance to apologize and never did,” she said.

The Wall Group to Open Paris Office

Talent agency The Wall Group is set to open a Paris office next week in the midst of the city’s fashion week. The agency, which represents hairstylists, makeup artist and fashion stylists, has a roster that includes Danilo, Renato Campora, Ben Skervin, Hung Vanngo, Frank B, Alice Lane, Kate Young, Karla Welch and Elizabeth Stewart.
“Our decision to expand into Paris is a logical next step for our business,” said founder Brooke Wall. “We’ve worked with European talent, brands and fashion houses for years from afar, but demand continues to increase as the focus on international red carpets, film festivals and fashion presentations intensifies. We see a lot of opportunity to grow our services in-market and are excited about this evolution.”
Wall founded TWG in 2000 in New York and began with a roster of behind-the-scenes talent focused on the traditional fashion and editorial industry. TWG opened its Los Angeles office in 2003 to addresses the small but burgeoning group of artists focused on celebrity and red carpet styling. ‘Baywatch’ Officially Flops As ‘Pirates’ Comes In First At The Box Office

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) ― Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is sailing into first place at the domestic box office this weekend, but the story the numbers dictate is not one of swashbuckling heroics.

Johnny Depp’s fifth outing as Jack Sparrow is looking at a three-day total of $ 62.2 million from 4,276 locations, and a four-day holiday weekend sum of $ 77 million. If not for international appeal, that would be a let down for a movie riding on a $ 230 million production budget.

The first place finish also can’t cover up a serious case of franchise fatigue. “Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the lowest opening for a Pirates movie apart from the original, which earned over $ 46 million in its first weekend (and was also the only installation approved by critics). Last time out in 2011, “On Stranger Tides” pulled in $ 90 million in its opening weekend. That’s still less than 2007’s “At World’s End” ($ 114.7 million) and 2006’s “Dead Man’s Chest” ($ 135.6 million). But it’s no question why Disney is still churning out sequels ― combined, the movies have made $ 1.3 billion domestically and $ 3.8 billion worldwide.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” centers on Sparrow battling deadly ghost sailors, led by the Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg directed the film, which also sees the return of both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who were absent from the fourth installment.

Over time the “Pirates” franchise has become more reliant on overseas ticket sales, and that’s certainly the case this time out. The studio should make back its production budget this weekend once worldwide ticket sales are taken into account. Since the franchise still makes money (even if U.S. grosses are dwindling) this may not be the last we see of Captain Sparrow.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s “Baywatch” was hoping to make an oceanic summer splash, but looks to have ended up in the kiddie pool. The rebooted property should land a three-day total of $ 18.1 million from 3,647 locations and end the four-day holiday weekend with $ 22 million. That’s far below early estimates. The movie carries a $ 60 million production budget.

This is the latest in a string of misses for the studio this year including “Ghost in the Shell,” “Rings,” “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” and “Monster Trucks.”

Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron star in the comedy that spawned from the 1990s NBC drama starring David Hasselhoff and a team of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of Los Angeles. This time around it’s Johnson, an experienced and devoted lifeguard, who butts heads with a new recruit, Efron, until they uncover a criminal plot.

Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera also star. Seth Gordon directed the film based on a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Jay Scherick, David Ronn, Thomas Lennon, and Robert Ben Garant all have story credits.

“Baywatch” will land in third behind Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” which has proven to be the only major hit to emerge from the summer box office so far. The sequel looks to pull in another $ 24.2 million over the four-day weekend, raising its domestic total close to $ 340 million.

Fox’s “Alien: Covenant” should end up in fourth during its second weekend in theaters. The latest installment in the Alien franchise is looking at $ 13.1 million over the four-day stretch. Rounding out the top five, the YA adaptation “Everything, Everything” looks to have been a solid low-budget investment for Warner Bros. Its four day total should be about $ 7.6 million.

The Office Of Government Ethics May Have Just Trolled Donald Trump

Did the Office of Government Ethics just throw shade at President Donald Trump on Twitter? It sure seems that way.

Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday. On Thursday, it was reported Comey refused Trump’s demand for loyalty at a private dinner in January, something the White House denied.

And on Friday, the ethics office tweeted the following message:

The post did not reference Trump directly, but many tweeters took it to be a subtle dig at the president:

The Lions Modeling Agency Opens Los Angeles Office

The Lions Model Management, the three-year-old New York-based boutique modeling agency whose clients include Irina Shayk, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, Adwoa Aboah and Cameron Russell, has opened a new office in Los Angeles. The Lions L.A. is the second location in the United States for the upstart agency, which has seen rapid growth since its launch.
The new location marks a strategic expansion, tapping into Los Angeles’s suddenly buzzy fashion scene. “From the beginning, we’ve built The Lions on a non-traditional business model that looks beyond measurements to find clients who have unique qualities and we work to develop their profiles,” said Ali Kavoussi, one of the agency’s managing partners. “As the fashion industry continues to evolve, opening an outpost in L.A. is a natural next step as we continue to grow our business.”
Since its launch in 2014, The Lions has taken a different approach to organizing its roster with a fluid board, not segmenting models by gender, ethnicity, size or any other parameter. The agency also devotes time and resources to helping models find their voice and create their own personal brands, which, of course, leads to more lucrative jobs from companies seeking “authentic” and quirky personalities.

Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing Designs Stamps for French Post Office

STAMPED: The French post office has selected Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing to design its annual collection of heart-shaped stamp, timed for release ahead of Valentine’s Day.
His designs juxtapose swirling baroque architectural motifs on pastel backgrounds with stripes and diamonds in black and white. Orchids in orange, yellow and fuchsia are seen poking out from nooks and creases in the designs.
The 2017 edition is a reflection of the decadent aesthetic Rousteing has created for Balmain and uses elements from the house’s spring 2017 women’s ready-to-wear collection. That season featured looks pairing black and white stripes with swirling lacework, as well as vivid architectural motifs woven on gentle pastels.
Rousteing’s design “evokes a poetic and loving spirit, reinforced by its heart shape,” La Poste, the French postal service, said in a statement. Since 2000, it has collaborated on the series with designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, Hermès and Lanvin. Last year’s stamps were signed by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, the young duo behind the reboot of Space Age house Courrèges since 2015.
The Balmain-designed stamps will be available starting Jan. 23 in French post offices and online.

Disney Was 2016’s Box Office Champ, With ‘Rogue One’ Winning New Year’s Weekend

As 2016 came to a close, the year’s box office statistics were cemented: Disney reigned supreme.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” maintained the No. 1 spot. Its estimated $ 50 million New Year’s weekend intake brings the movie’s total domestic grosses to about $ 439 million, making it the second-highest-grossing release of 2016. The inaugural stand-alone “Star Wars” installment is second in yearly receipts only to the summer sequel “Finding Dory,” another Disney offering.

It’s largely thanks to the Mouse House that 2016’s overall grosses topped 2015’s by 2 percent. The record-setting $ 11.37 billion in North American ticket sales defies the many Hollywood sequels that underperformed. Disney boasts seven of the year’s 15 highest-grossing films. (The others are “Captain America: Civil War,” “The Jungle Book,” “Zootopia,” “Doctor Strange” and “Moana.”) Collectively, Disney made a whopping $ 1 billion more than the second-most-lucrative studio, Warner Bros., which released “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Despite an impressive year on paper, the number of people going to high-profile franchise installments compared to the lower-budgeted films that once drove the box office has grown even more divided. Of 2016’s 30 highest-grossing movies, only four are live-action originals: “Central Intelligence,” “Sully,” “Bad Moms” and “Arrival.” But this weekend offered a couple of exceptions, most notably “Fences” (which came in No. 5) and “La La Land” (No. 7). The former, directed by and starring Denzel Washington, collected $ 10.1 million in 2,301 theaters. “La La Land,” an Oscar front-runner starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, accumulated about $ 9.5 million in 750 locations, making it the year’s most successful limited release. The Damien Chazelle-directed musical is on track to have pocketed a dazzling $ 37 million in total by the end of Monday.

Also hitting the Top 10 as 2016 turned into 2017: the animated jukebox musical “Sing” (No. 2), the underperforming Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt vehicle “Passengers” (No. 3), Disney’s “Moana” (No. 4), the comedy “Why Him?” (No. 6) and the video-game adaptation “Assassin’s Creed” (No. 8). As of Sunday’s estimates, “Manchester by the Sea,” “Collateral Beauty” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” are competing for the final two spots.

As is the tendency during the holidays, when Oscar season is in full force, the specialty box office lit up. “Hidden Figures” made a splash on 25 screens, bringing its cumulative grosses to roughly $ 2.5 million, ahead of the race dramedy’s Jan. 6 wide release. The other big winner was “20th Century Women,” the Annette Bening vehicle that enjoyed a $ 29,000-per-screen average in four theaters.

‘Pan’ Fails To Take Flight At The Box Office

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Pan” produced no Neverland magic at the box office.

The fantasy, which cost an estimated $ 150 million to produce, earned $ 15.5 million in its opening weekend, according to Rentrak estimates Sunday making it one of the worst bombs of the year. Early tracking did not look promising for the Joe Wright-directed film but still predicted that “Pan” would open at least in the $ 20 million range.

The PG-rated epic, sold as a Peter Pan origin story and a lavish visual feast, has had a bumpy ride from the beginning, starting when actress Rooney Mara, who is white, was cast as Tiger Lily, who is historically Native American. The film, starring Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund, also had been pushed from July to October. It has not been well-received by critics, either.

”Pan” now ranks among 2015’s biggest flops, including “Fantastic Four” and “Tomorrowland.” International earnings don’t look promising either. The film brought in a weak $ 20.5 million. For comparison, “The Martian” earned $ 58.1 million.

“This had a lot going against it,” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst for Rentrak.

He also believes competition in the family market from the Halloween-themed animated feature “Hotel Transylvania 2” hurt “Pan.”

“Family films always have an audience, but that audience is extremely fickle and hard to please, just like the kids who go to these movies,” Dergarabedian said. “You just never know what’s going to resonate.”

Sony’s high-wire spectacle “The Walk” also stumbled in its first weekend in wide release, after debuting on IMAX screens last week. The tale of Philippe Petit’s tight-rope walk between the towers of the World Trade Center earned $ 3.7 million this weekend, bringing its total to $ 6.4 million. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in film directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Not all was bleak at the box office, though. Ridley Scott’s space adventure “The Martian” earned a solid $ 37 million in its second week in theaters, nabbing the top spot once more. Its domestic total now stands at $ 108.7 million.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” took second place in its third weekend with $ 20.3 million, bumping its total to $ 116.8 million. “Pan” came in at No. 3.

Nancy Meyers’ workplace comedy “The Intern” earned $ 8.7 million, and the border thriller “Sicario” brought in $ 7.4 million, rounding out the top five.

Outside the top 10, “Steve Jobs,” the biopic of the late Apple CEO directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin, opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to a powerful $ 520,942. Its $ 130,000 per-theater average ranks as the best of the year and should bode well for the film’s expansion across the next two weeks.

“This is a movie everyone’s talking about, and now they’re going to be talking about it even more,” Dergarabedian said.

4 Office Fashion Rules From a Woman Who’s Dressed Kate Middleton

When it comes to a model for polished, proper, and utterly professional dressing, you can’t find a better example than Kate Middleton. Her position as a royal and obligatory outings require sophisticated, elegant looks, but it’s also a style vibe that seems pretty ingrained in her style DNA. And while the Duchess reps many designers you’ve heard of (think her customized Tory Burch, the Stuart Weitzman wedges the queen can’t stand, and that Alexander McQueen dress), she’s also shown off a few British labels that have been a little more undercover until now.

Goat has been once such case, with designer Jane Lewis offering up chic understated styles that the Duchess seems to love. Up until now it had been relatively tricky to find the brand in the U.S. but that’s recently changed, with the announcement that the label would begin selling at Saks Fifth Avenue. When we got the chance to talk with Lewis about how easy it is to translate Kate’s style into savvy everywoman office outfits, we knew we owed it to everyone who gets a pay stub.

“There’s been an underlying belief that fashion had no place within the corporate environment and that it could diminish our credibility in some way,” she explained. “Fashion doesn’t have to be frivolous. Style is innate in each of us, and it’s what sets us apart from the generic. A working environment is as good a place as any to show off your personality.”

Rule 1: Think about your workplace.
What works at your friend’s office might not fly at yours, and understanding that is key. “Assess your environment and your requirements. Be honest with yourself and audit trends as appropriate,” Lewis said. Once you’ve figured out the essentials that make a stellar outfit for your field of work, invest in some key basics. “They’ll become the foundation of an edited yet versatile working wardrobe.”

Rule 2: Don’t be afraid of color.
“It can be empowering and feminine and is an excellent way to tap into a current trend,” she said, insisting that even the color-averse can experiment with shades other than black and navy. “Mid colors like burgundy, fern green, and dark teal are what I call ‘noncolors’ that are good for people who may feel overwhelmed by strong brights.”

Rule 3: Rely on accessories to update and upgrade.
To inject some new life into office fashion made up of dependable building blocks, add statement jewelry or standout shoes. “One feature accent is enough to update an outfit,” Lewis instructed, specifying that one is indeed the magic number. “One thing at a time is enough. Discretion can make a powerful impression and have enormous impact.” Consider a large cuff bracelet with shortened sleeves that show it off, a belt with color or print, or a pair of playful shoes that peek out from underneath your trousers.

Rule 4: Stay comfortable.
Because, really, what’s the good of all these guidelines if you’re squirming and fidgeting? “Don’t underestimate the confidence and elegance comfort lends you. It’s the foundation of dressing well for your environment.” Ban uncomfortable cuts, pieces you’re always tugging at, and ouch-worthy heels from the office.

kate-middleton-goat-redgrave-nude-beige-coat-2013

Kate in Goat’s Redgrave coat, the first piece she ever wore from the label

When you read her suggestions with Kate in mind, it totally clicks into place that, yup, they’re all lessons that the Duchess has learned and applied. And about that famous mum of two? Lewis is much like any of the other designers Kate’s worn, completely unaware that the royal will be stepping out in one of her pieces (maybe because she’s shopping online?)

“It was a lovely surprise and great honor,” Lewis remembered about the time she first saw Kate in Goat (she seems to be especially fond of the label’s classic, tailored coats).

Summer Office Dressing 101: The Dos and Don’ts of Appropriate Work Looks

By Jane Keltner de Valle, Glamour

Lifeguards have it easy, but what should the rest of us wear to work all summer long? Glamour’s Jane Keltner de Valle lays down the new rules.

Fact: Dressing for the office in my hometown of New York City in the height of summer is an Olympian fashion feat. There’s the 100-degree communal steam bath that is the subway platform, the high-humidity concrete jungle, and the punishing arctic blast that greets you as you come through the revolving doors of an office skyscraper. Like everyone else, I struggle to dress appropriately under such bipolar conditions, but I have learned a few tricks over my decade-plus career in fashion — and can always call on the best-dressed women in the world in the name of research. So with a season of escalating temps on the horizon, I rang up a few of the chicest career girls I know. Consider the following your cheat sheet:

If you’d wear it to the beach, file it under ‘no.’
When I was an editor at Teen Vogue, an assistant once arrived wearing a strapless cocktail dress to a midsummer meeting with our editor-in-chief. Which brings us to lesson one: Resist the temptation to go too bare. “Summer is like a disaster zone,” real estate scion and lifestyle entrepreneur Ivanka Trump told me over breakfast recently. “Hemlines go up, and there are so many minefields for women! Men can wear khakis and a polo shirt on casual Fridays. If I ever walked into the office wearing that?” (One shudders to think what The Donald might say.) Her advice: “Look at the environment you’re working in, and stay within the boundaries of that.” For Trump that means polished dresses, or a blazer and silk tank paired with relaxed pants (she’s loving this season’s culottes and wide-leg styles).

Kate Davidson Hudson, the cofounder of the accessory site Editorialist, adheres to another wise dictate: “I heard this rule once that you’re not going to wear a pantsuit and heels to the beach, so don’t wear something you’d wear to the beach to the office.” She recalls a young colleague at a former job who “wore cut-off booty shorts with pink flip-flops. We had to take her aside and explain what proper work attire entails. You have to be conscious of not letting your professionalism be undermined by your clothes.” Unless your job is lifeguard or swimsuit model (in which case, party on!), rule out cutoffs, flip-flops, sports bras, and anything you’d wear to a pool or a gym.

Find a uniform and go from there.
Last May, when I joined Glamour, I was immediately struck by fashion director Jillian Davison’s unerring ability to be both work- and weather-appropriate. Full disclosure: She is Australian, so she’s been dressing for the heat from birth. But still! Day after day Davison breezed into the office wearing a crisp men’s oxford, sleeves artfully rolled up; a pencil skirt or loose pants; and a flash of gold jewelry. Chic, polished, comfortable. What’s her secret? “A level of tailoring is always going to look professional,” she says. “That’s why I’m a fan of the button-down shirt. Natural fabrics like cotton and linen breathe, and looser fits that sit away from the body feel less restrictive.” (In other words, store your leathers, suedes, and clingy knits until fall; ventilation is key in hot weather.)

Davidson Hudson has a summer uniform too: “I love a suit with a sleeveless jacket or tailored, long city shorts,” she says. Yes, shorts can be appropriate; just keep the fabric structured and the length modest.

My personal go-to is the one-and-done dress (I just ordered a crisp Rosie Assoulin version). Ivanka Trump agrees: “In the summer you can wear a simple sheath, and in the fall you put a blazer on top.”

Know how short is too short.
As temperatures rise, so too do hemlines. So what’s acceptable in terms of length? The general consensus is no more than a couple of inches above the knee; short shorts, miniskirts, and clingy fabrics aren’t appropriate. For her part, Davidson Hudson advocates a “sit test” in front of a mirror before leaving the house. “If the skin of your legs is hitting the chair,” she says, “that’s too short.” Thankfully, fashion designers seem to have gotten the memo; the season’s of-the-moment silhouette is the midi skirt, which hits midcalf.

Embrace the light.
If New Yorkers (myself included) are guilty of one thing, it’s wearing too much black. Not a problem in the winter, but come summer, light colors look and feel cooler. Davison advises replacing your blacks with whites during the warmer months. “White near your face is very flattering,” she says. “It’s a great canvas to add color to.” Pair with navy and gold for a nautical-inspired look, or channel the spring runways and go all white. “I love mixing whites with beiges and blushes for summer,” says Davidson Hudson. Khaki safari-inspired looks are another perennial favorite; I count a sleeveless trench dress as one of my summer mainstays. It reminds me of Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic safari dress. Going strong since 1968…and all the rage right now!

And don’t forget these Dos & Don’ts.

Do layer. I know going from an overheated street to an over-air-conditioned office may be a true #firstworldproblem, but it is tricky. The solution? I keep a cardigan or a blazer permanently draped over my office chair.

Don’t do too-bare shoes. Flats are fantastic, and this season offers a plethora of chic choices, from the gladiator to the mule. But when doing an open toe, consider coverage: “I’m going to sound really finicky,” says Davison, “but looking at the whole foot can be not that attractive. I opt for clever styles, like a d’Orsay, where your foot isn’t entirely exposed.”

Do groom. With bare shoes, consider these three C’s: clean, clipped, and chip-free. My personal go-to pedicure shade is a nude (the Essie classic Ballet Slippers); it’s pretty without being distracting and has the added benefit of being leg-lengthening. Not to mention the fact that nude goes with everything–who has time to change polish every time you change outfits? You might think twice about getting a pedicure during working hours, though. “I see people coming back from the spa during their lunch break with the toe separators still on,” says Trump, tsk-tsk-ing. On that same note, she advises against leaving the house with wet hair. “Tempting,” she acknowledges, but just not professional. Bottom line? Even in summer, “dress for the role you want to assume in your life,” Trump suggests. “It sends a message to people: You care about taking care of yourself. It’s important to feel like you have executive presence.”

‘Tomorrowland’ Dreams Big, But Fails To Rake In Big Bucks At The Box Office

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The future doesn’t look so bright for “Tomorrowland.”

Disney’s expensive fantasy adventure essentially had Memorial Day weekend to itself, and still only pulled in a modest $ 41.7 million in its first four days in theaters according to Rentrak estimates on Monday.

It’s a disappointing debut for a film that cost a reported $ 180 million to produce. Disney put their full weight behind the Brad Bird-directed film with an ambitious George Clooney-led promotional campaign.

“It’s not ever ideal to be below your estimate before the weekend starts, but it feels like it’s too early to judge the run,” said Disney’s Distribution EVP Dave Hollis.

Going into the weekend, tracking put the film in the $ 40 to $ 50 million range. And yet, he said, this is the gamble that studios must take when trying to introduce an original film to the marketplace.

Hollis noted that “Tomorrowland” will be one of the only PG-rated family films in theaters until Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out” opens on June 19, which could be promising for its longevity — especially considering that many schools have yet to close for the summer.

“We are optimistic that originality and the vision that Brad Bird put on the screen is something that people will find and evangelize and hopefully get other folks to show up,” said Hollis.

Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian said that the mystery behind “Tomorrowland’s” plot might have hurt the film.

“When audiences are spending their hard earned cash on a blockbuster or tent-pole movie, they kind of want to know what they’re getting going in, for better or worse,” he said.

Last weekend’s well-received holdovers “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” helped prop up the holiday weekend totals. Both films experienced modest drops and earned $ 38.5 million and $ 32.1 million respectively.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” placed fourth with $ 27.8 million.

Meanwhile, Fox’s “Poltergeist” remake debuted in fifth place, with an estimated $ 26.5 million.

Director Gil Kenan’s update of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 horror classic cost $ 35 million to produce. The studio expected an opening in the low $ 20 million range.

“I think for our filmmakers, who had set out not to just remake a classic but to introduce a new generation of fans to the genre, it was very successful,” said Fox’s domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson.

Audiences for the PG-13 rated film were 59 percent under the age of 25.

Overall, though, there wasn’t much to celebrate over this holiday weekend. Memorial Day weekends are usually reserved for high-earning franchise fare.

The past two years saw the over $ 100 million debuts of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Fast & Furious 6.” When box office totals are finalized on Tuesday, this could prove to be one of the worst performing in recent years.

“The industry went into this weekend knowing we weren’t going to break any records,” said Dergarabedian. “This is more of a case of audiences, somewhat, turning their back on original content when it comes to big blockbusters.”

But, hope is certainly not lost for a banner 2015 at the box office, with more surefire blockbusters like “Jurassic World” and “Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation” yet to open.

“Summer is not going to be a bummer this year. This is a bump in the box office road,” said Dergarabedian.

Obama Says The GOP Has Just Shown How You Diminish Your Office

President Barack Obama drew laughs when he joked about his approval ratings, legal marijuana and executive actions at the annual Gridiron Club dinner in Washington on Saturday.

But when it came to the letter that 47 Republican senators recently sent to Iranian leaders warning that a nuclear deal could be undone by a future administration, Obama dropped the comedic routine.

“You don’t diminish your office by taking a selfie. You do it by sending a poorly written letter to Iran. Really. That wasn’t a joke,” he said, according to a pool report of the event.

Obama was referring to his use of a selfie stick during a recent appearance in a video for BuzzFeed to promote the Affordable Care Act. Conservatives claim that Obama has diminished the presidency by appearing in the BuzzFeed video, being interviewed by YouTube stars and going on late-night talk shows.

Obama has also said that he was “embarrassed” for the Republicans who sent the letter to Iran. Vice President Joe Biden has said that the letter was “beneath the dignity” of the United States Senate.

Republicans have defended the letter, saying that they had to speak out because Obama didn’t consult them.

Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday that he would not apologize to Iran for the GOP’s actions. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who orchestrated sending the letter, said that he had “no regrets.”

It’s Been Handled: We Played Office Dress-Up in The Limited x Scandal Collection

Like you, the Glamour team watches Scandal and rehashes while grabbing coffee in the office (Nikki’s also a pretty prolific real-time tweeter should you need to discuss in the heat of the moment). It’s been so fun seeing Olivia Pope wear actual pieces from The Limited‘s collection with the show that I asked whether we could get some of the items into the office for us to play around with and, you know, maybe pretend we were having our own super-serious gladiator moments.

the-limited-scandal-black-white-trench-glamour-editors
Nikki got to wear this amazing black and white trench, totally spotted on Olivia in one of her power-striding moments. “The minute I saw it I fell in love,” she said. “It’s a fun new take on the traditional trench coat, and I’d ideally wear it with a chunky knit sweater, gray jeans, and black pumps.” She took it off long enough for a few of us to also try it on and we were collectively impressed by how well-made it felt and flattering it was on everyone. It’s sadly sold out online, but was so fab it’s worth a trip to your local brick and mortar to see if they’ve still got any in stock.

the-limited-scandal-poncho-glamour-editors

Julie and I both squealed when we pulled this plaid poncho out of the bag. Olivia Pope aside, she’d been searching for the silhouette and I was happy she got to try it out with this one. If you think figuring out what to wear it with would be tricky, don’t: Julie came to work in a sweater dress and leggings, not expecting to top it with a cape, and it worked beautifully. You can shop it here.

the-limited-scandal-blazer-glamour-editors
“I felt so professional and take-charge in this blazer, and I loved how versatile it was,” Anna told me. “You could wear it open or zipped up, but either way, I say pair with black pants and you’re ready to get things ‘handled.” It was one of the first pieces from the collaboration I remember Kerry Washington actually wearing and it definitely gave Anna the same sort of instant boss-lady polish (a good reason to keep it on the back of your chair in case you’re called to an impromptu meeting). Like the trench, it’s sold-out online but worth seeing if you can locate locally.
the-limited-scandal-peplum-glamour-editors

I loved this graphic black and white top on Olivia/Kerry and was excited for Lindsey to try it on. We played around with how to style it and what felt right to her. On the show, it was worn closed like a blouse, but Lindsey decided she actually liked it open as a little jacket. Either way: cute (and available).

the-limited-scandal-off-shoulder-sweater-glamour-editors

I was all about this off-the-shoulder sweater since it’s a major trend I’m loving in real life and captures the sexy-but-cozy style that’s perfect for a winter date night (or curling up on the couch alone with a long-stemmed glass of red, per Miss Pope). The top was long enough that our photographer actually asked me if it was a dress and that coverage means it could work with leggings. To dress it up for the office, I skipped jeans and paired with leather leggings.

Have you seen any of the collaboration pieces in person? If you haven’t, you seriously should stop by the next time you’re in the mall.
