Formula E Races Through Brooklyn to End Season

As many New Yorkers and tourists took in the city’s sights or fled to the beach over the weekend, thousands of others rushed to Red Hook in Brooklyn for the final leg of the 2018-19 FIA Formula E season. This weekend saw the end of the fifth season of the electric motor-racing championship.
Founded by former politician and businessman Alejandro Agag, Formula E is a fast-paced electric version of the popular Formula One competition. While the latter uses hybrid engines, an innovation it implemented in 2019, Formula E uses strictly electric cars produced by Spark Racing. The lithe 2,000-pound cars reach speeds as high as 160 miles an hour and can reach 60 mph in two seconds.
The 2018-19 FIA Formula E season saw races in Morocco, Chile, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland. The season began on Dec. 15 in Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, which also marked the first Formula E race to be held in the Middle East. Following a world tour that took racers to Marrakech, Santiago, Rome, Paris, Monaco and Berlin, the competitors headed to New York City to compete and claim the championship.
Prior to the weekend event, Hugo Boss and Porsche unveiled a collaboration collection, launching this

GoT Season 8 Premiere’s Best Stunt Was… Nuts for Kit Harrington

Kit Harington experienced a rather uncomfortable incident while filming one of the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere’s biggest stunts.

Spoiler warning: episode details follow this video.

While filming the first episode of Season 8’s dragon riding sequence, Kit Harington was required to mount a ‘buck’; a mechanical moving stand-in for a dragon that is later transformed via the magic of visual effects. But while riding the buck during one take, Harrington suffered a… painful incident.

“There is a bit where Jon almost falls off the dragon and swings around really violently,” he describes in a YouTube video on the official Game of Thrones channel. “And my right ball got trapped and I didn’t have time to say ‘stop’.”

New York Trade Shows Set Uncertain Tone for Season

The rollicking situation with the U.S. government and the subsequent economic uncertainties are giving specialty stores some angst about their prospects in 2019.
With that as the backdrop, retailers were cautious as they shopped the trade shows in New York City last month. They scoured the aisles of Project, Liberty Fairs and Man searching for those special items that would draw customers into their stores. And luckily, they were able to find some things that fit the bill — updated knitwear, outerwear and accessories in particular — from some off-the-radar vendors with a creative bent.
“The fourth quarter overall was good, but the last two weeks of the year with the government shutdown and the market tanking took some steam out of our results,” said Ken Giddon, president of Rothmans.
Although he remains positive, Giddon said he’s expecting a “fight” to hit last year’s numbers, especially as traditional tailored clothing sales continue to drop. “There are a lot fewer suits being bought so we have to find dollars to make up for that,” he said.
And so Giddon, who admits that he loves “the hunt” at trade shows, pored through the hundreds of brands on display to find those replacement dollars. The good news,

American Gods Season 2 Trailer Promises War

Starz has unveiled the full trailer for American Gods Season 2, which finally hits our screens on Sunday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The first season concluded back in June 2017, so Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon’s much-anticipated return is a blessing indeed. Watch the new trailer above.

Here’s Starz’s description of the new season: “We were forged in God’s image, but the Gods are also made in ours — and in Season 2 the battle moves inexorably toward crisis point as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World plots revenge for the attack against him in Season 1, Shadow throws in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow. A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos, sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods — a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice.”

Marvel’s The Punisher: Season 2 Premiere Review

Note: this is a spoiler-free review of the first episode of The Punisher: Season 2.

Here we are with what we’re probably all assuming is the last season premiere we’re ever going to get out of The Punisher. The knowledge that the show is almost certainly due for the chopping block in a week or two puts a real damper on the new season, but at least the show comes back strong. If the first episode is any indication, Season 2 looks to be addressing some of the biggest complaints about the first.

Judging from the premiere, it appears that showrunner Steven Lightfoot and his team are intent on making a clean break from the events of Season 1. That makes sense. Up till now, Frank’s story in the MCU has been defined by his vendetta against the military handlers who betrayed him and took his family from him. He got his vengeance and found some semblance of peace by the end of Season 1. The question now is whether Frank can find a new purpose in life. Can he truly leave his war behind? Is it possible for someone like Frank Castle to be normal again? Does he even want that?
