Destination XL Breaks Even in Second Quarter

Blame it on the weather. Destination XL Group Inc., the country’s largest big & tall men’s retailer, reported Wednesday that it managed to cut its losses in the second quarter but weather woes caused comparable-store sales to be flat and overall sales to tick up only a modest 0.9 percent to $ 122.2 million. The Canton, Mass.-based specialty store chain broke even in terms of net income, as compared to a loss of $ 1.2 million in the same period last year. The prior year’s loss included a restructuring charge of $ 1.6 million. Adjusted EBITDA, however, was down, falling to $ 7.1 million from $ 8.7 million in the second quarter of last year. Harvey Kanter, the company’s newly named president and chief executive officer, said: “The second quarter got off to a slow start as unfavorable weather impacted sell-through of seasonal product.” Even so, Kanter said results improved as the quarter progressed and the period ended with a “slightly positive comp trend.” The company’s wholesale business also improved in the period, he said. Kanter reiterated the company’s ongoing strategic initiatives, which include “engaging with our customers in a more meaningful and personalized way from a digital standpoint, better defining and developing our working marketing plans, improving our

Moncler and Palm Angels Launch Second Genius Collection in SoHo

Moncler and Palm Angels celebrated the launch of 8 Moncler Palm Angels, the expanded second collection for Moncler Genius, with a party at the Moncler store on Prince Street in SoHo Thursday.
Designer Francesco Ragazzi traveled from London, where he hosted a party in Camden with rapper Octavian, to New York City to host another soiree that drew guests such as Ronnie Fieg, Vashtie Cola, Nigel Sylvester, Young Paris, model Zahara Davis, and Kerwin Frost on the turntables.
The first 8 Moncler Palm Angels collection launched in October 2018, but the second effort from Ragazzi is a much bigger collection. “The first one was more like merchandise for the Genius project, while this one is like my own collection so it’s much bigger,” Ragazzi told WWD at the launch party.
The co-branded pieces, including down parkas, tracksuits, hoodies, and T-shirts, among other styles, feature graffiti, paint splatter, graphics, bright collage patterns and the phrase “mind control” on some styles. The “Palm Angels” graffiti tag that was seen throughout the store on mirrors, walls, and display windows is part of the collection’s theme of “Art Breaking.”
“I started with the idea of a vandalized art gallery,” said Ragazzi about the collection. “The purity of the

In the period ended Aug. 4, the Canton, Mass.-based big and tall men’s retailer said losses fell to $ 1.2 million, or 2 cents a diluted share, from $ 3.7 million, or 8 cents a share, in the same quarter last year. MILAN – Giorgio Armani has called for applications for the second edition of Armani/Laboratorio. Introduced last August, the project consists of an intensive filmmaking workshop offered free of charge, which will allow participants to produce a short film.
Held at the designer’s Silos space starting from November, the workshop’s second edition will be led by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, whose “Call me by your name” movie received widespread critical acclaim and several accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award for Best Picture and for a BAFTA Award for Best Direction.
“Armani/Laboratorio is my idea of a ‘film atelier’ where stories are created by students working together with guidance and support from the most highly skilled key players in the industry,” said Armani.

Rimowa Unveils Second Installment of Fendi Collaboration

TAKE TWO: Rimowa has unveiled the second installment of its collaboration with Fendi.
The sleek aluminum cabin trolley, launched last November, will go on sale this month in two new colors, blue and red. The earlier black-and-yellow version was featured in Fendi’s travel-themed men’s ready-to-wear show in January.
Like its predecessor, the case displays the double F logo with a brushed effect, which changes depending on the light, as well as Cuoio Romano leather handles on the top and side, and a web belt that runs across the case. A new leather Airbag charm, shaped like a paper airplane, has Fendi’s signature Bag Bugs eyes.

The novelty is that the cases will be among the first to feature Rimowa’s new visual identity, unveiled earlier this year to coincide with the brand’s 120th anniversary. Personalization options include stickers and a customizable leather name tag that snaps onto the external belt.
Fendi, which like Rimowa belongs to French conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, was the first brand to collaborate with the German luggage maker following the arrival of luxury scion Alexandre Arnault as chief executive officer.
Rimowa has also made limited-edition suitcases with Supreme, Off-White and graphic design duo M/M Paris.

Jonathan Anderson Shows Second Uniqlo Collection in Tokyo

TOKYO—Jonathan Anderson made a quick trip to the Japanese capital to launch the second season of his collaboration with Uniqlo at a press event Tuesday. The line hits stores around the world as well as Uniqlo’s e-commerce site on April 20.
Anderson spoke about his love of Tokyo and Japanese design at an event on the 52nd floor of the Andaz hotel.
“Every time I come here I end up shopping way too much, spending all my money,” he said with a laugh. “Since I was very young I’ve always been obsessed with Japanese craft, this idea that you can build this legacy which you pass on generation to generation, which I think is quite similar in British culture.”
The Brighton Beach-inspired spring offering of Anderson’s collection with Uniqlo is made up of basics with a twist, like striped or solid t-shirts with uneven hems, ruffle collar shirts, and chino shorts. The designer, who said he wears Uniqlo every day, said he has enjoyed working with the Japanese company—he described the experience as “methodical”—and that he has been impressed by the quality it is able to deliver at low prices.

Acne Studios to Open Second Store in Los Angeles

Amid denials of reports touting a potential sale, Acne Studios is chugging along with its global retail expansion plans.
On Friday, the 21-year-old Stockholm-based brand will open its newest store in West Hollywood, its second Los Angeles location following its downtown L.A. opening in 2013.
The 2,700-square-foot store at 8920 Melrose Avenue, down the street from Maxfield and James Perse, and around the corner from Hedi Slimane’s design studio and Jenni Kayne, is the company’s 54th location worldwide.

“L.A. is one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the world. We keep coming back to the city for inspiration and for the special atmosphere. Downtown L.A. was a great starting point for us, but we always knew we wanted a store on the westside also. Anyone who has ever been stuck in L.A. traffic will understand why. Store scouting is always about the combination of space and location, and in 8920 Melrose Avenue we were lucky enough to find what we were looking for on both parameters. We love the mood of this store,” said Mattias Magnusson, Acne’s chief executive officer.

Cremieux Opens Second U.S. Store, Creates New Label for Dillard’s

Cremieux has embarked on a dual-pronged growth strategy as it works to increase sales.
The French brand, which got its start in Saint-Tropez in 1976, has opened its second store in the U.S. and has also created a new contemporary men’s brand for Dillard’s, its longtime American retail partner.
On Dec. 1, Cremieux opened an 800-square-foot boutique at the Royal Poinciana Plaza in Palm Beach, Fla. This joins the company’s SoHo store on Mercer Street that opened nearly four years ago.
A Florida store has long been on the wish list for Stephane Cremieux, chief executive officer of Cremieux and son of founder Daniel Cremieux. “Ever since the brand was founded, we wanted to open a store in Florida,” he said. “So when this opportunity came up, we took it.”
He said the recently renovated Royal Poinciana center is “a special place” with a curated assortment of luxury brands. “You can’t call it a mall. It’s like being in a summer house with fountains, lots of green and palm trees.” The center is home to 30 stores including Cynthia Rowley, Hermès, Magasin, Orlebar Brown and Serenella.
The design of the Cremieux store is very reminiscent of Saint-Tropez, he said, with photos of the French Riviera and

Anderson said the collaboration was “super-exciting” for him. “I am proud of it, and I think the pieces are incredibly well made. The line was also good bridge between the ideal of British classicism and my own brand,” he said.
Looking ahead, he said the spring collection “is about items that interlink with each other. It’s about layering this time. The idea is to mix and match things together.”

Why Supreme Opened a Second New York Store

NEW YORK — After more than 20 years of being in business, Supreme’s Manhattan store was beginning to bust at the seams.
The streetwear brand had alleviated the lines and crowds with a new release system — customers no longer need to camp out as they put their name on a list and enter the store during a designated time slot — but demand for the product has continued to increase, which is why the team opted for a 3,000-square-foot store in Brooklyn at 152 Grand Street between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street. On Thursday morning, when the shop opened to the public, Mayor Bill De Blasio commemorated the occasion by cutting the ribbon, which was appropriately covered with the Supreme logo.
“The truth is we maxed out on the Manhattan space. We were at capacity,” said Angelo Baque, Supreme’s former brand director who started his own creative agency but still oversees art direction for the company. “We couldn’t serve any more customers or sell more items.”
The new, larger space follows Supreme’s retail formula: wooden fixtures, sparse merchandising that lines the perimeter of the store, a flat screen playing skate videos in the window and a couple of concrete blocks for seating. The

Garrett Borns Reveals Inspiration for Second Album

MUSIC, MAESTRO: For his sophomore album due out next January, Garrett Borns, aka Børns, has tapped into a “futuristic Beach Boys” register. “Whatever that means,” laughed the androgynous singer-songwriter at the Sacai show Monday.
“I draw from a lot of older inspiration, Sixties and Seventies rock, but this album is a little more orchestral, there’s more layers in a way,” continued the artist, who will be touring in France in November. For this week, he said he had arranged a listening party in Paris so a select few could preview the new songs from the album, which just wrapped. “It’s a good excuse to preview some of the things, get some reactions,” he explained.
The current French music scene was an inspiration for DJ and music producer Diplo, another front-row guest. “There are so many cool new French rappers like MHD doing some really cool music, I’m really, really into it,” he said. “They’re mixing African and French music together, it’s very cool.” He would like to work on something tapping into the genre, he said. “Major Lazer has a lot of fans in France so it would be cool to do some French things with music.”

Gentle Monster to Open Second U.S. Store in Downtown Los Angeles

Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster will open its second U.S. location and first West Coast store in downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 5 in an impressive new space that embodies the “high-end experimentation” and disruption the brand has become known for with its product, space, styling, culture redesign and technology.
The 4,800-square-foot museum-like space at 814 S. Broadway will include kinetic sculpture and interior installations by Floria Sigisomondi, and the opening night party will feature a performance by Victoria Modesta.
The Los Angeles store experience was inspired by traditional methods of harvesting, as the stretched path inside guides visitors through a journey reimagining the process of harvesting, drying and threshing ripened rice crops. The space was designed to touch on ideas associated with the season, and fall being the time of harvest.
Scarecrows greet visitors high on top of terraced “fields,” where mother-of-pearl finishes add a layer of Eastern ambience. Nearly 2,000 metallic rods, symbolizing rice, stand just behind the inner entrance. The twigs left after the harvest are represented by rugs designed by knitting designer Misu A Barbe. An installation by artist Jung Uk Yang at the far back of the space represents the final step in harvesting rice: threshing.

Andy Roddick Reveals Wife Brooklyn Decker Is Pregnant with Their Second Child — a Girl

Brooklyn Decker and Andy Roddick‘s family will soon be set for a game of doubles.

Roddick revealed that his wife Decker, 30, is pregnant with their second child — a daughter — when he gave an acceptance speech at the International Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2017 ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, on Saturday.

“My wife Brooklyn, most people don’t know you’re kind of nuts,” the 34-year-old said. “You’re my partner in crime. In a life full of good fortune, being around you has been by far the luckiest part. I’m a better human for us having met 10 years ago.

“Brook, I don’t know how you juggle it all,” he continued. “I see it every day and it still doesn’t make any sense to me. You’re an unreal artist, businesswoman, mother, wife, sister and friend. You hear a lot of guys who find it very tough to walk away from professional sports. You’re the reason why my personal transition into a quasi-normal, everyday life has been gratifying and full. Hank will someday realize how lucky he is. Our daughter that’s coming will also realize she has the best mother on earth. Simply, thank you for being you.”

The retired tennis pro and Grace and Frankie star are already parents to son Hank, who will turn 2 in September.

Missouri Woman’s First Date Ends with Her Saving the Man’s Life: ‘He Asked for a Second Date’

A Missouri woman had a lunch date to remember when she used her life-saving CPR skills to come to her date’s rescue.

Janie Hall, 45, of Joplin, was full of excitement when she arrived at the Cheesecake Factor in Kansas City on April 7 to meet her date for the first time after a couple weeks of chatting. The duo hit it off after they met on the dating site, Plenty of Fish.

“He contacted me and we talked for two weeks,” Hall tells PEOPLE of her date, a man in his 50s who wishes to remain unnamed while he’s recovering. “I liked a lot of what he said. Social change is big for me and when he told me about his volunteer work, that really stood out to me. He volunteers at his grandchild’s school and he’s active with veterans groups in Kansas City.

“We had a wonderful meal and great conversation,” Hall says of their date. “They boxed our food and we continued to talk for 45 more minutes, chatting about family and friends.”

But suddenly her date coughed three times and lifted his finger as if to excuse himself.

“We weren’t eating so I knew he wasn’t choking,” Hall remembers. “I turned my head to the side to give him some privacy and then the next thing I knew there were dishes falling onto my side of the booth.”

Her date stood up and immediately fell face-first on the restaurant’s marble floor. Hall ran to his side and with the help of a server, Becca Bartholomew, they rolled him over.

“He had glazed-over eyes and blood was coming from his mouth. I checked and he had no heart rate so I began chest compressions and CPR,” says Hall, a former respiratory therapist who now works as an online educator of doctoral-level research.

Hall says Bartholomew took charge and told her coworkers to call 911 as the two women continued CPR.

“I checked for a pulse again and he had a weak pulse,” Hall says.

Eight minutes later, paramedics arrived and hooked him up to a monitor where they detected a heart rhythm. Hall followed the ambulance to the emergency room and left her card with hospital staff so the man’s family could contact her.

The next day, Hall called the hospital and was relieved when she was patched through to her date’s hospital room.

“It meant he had survived,” she says.

Hall connected with her date’s daughter and they began texting. They arranged a time for her to come visit him in the hospital on April 10.

“He looked amazing,” Hall says. “And he remembered everything about our conversation at the restaurant. I told him, ‘I never got to thank you for the meal,’ and he said, ‘Oh my god, you saved my life!’ “

After a series of tests, doctors were unable to find the exact cause of the man’s episode. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. Hall and Bartholomew have created a GoFundMe page to help their new friend defray medical costs that insurance will not cover.

One thing he can look forward to after his recovery? Another date with Hall.

“He asked for a second date in the hospital,” Hall says. “I was extremely honored. What means the most to me is that he works on his health and wellness right now.”

After her frightening experience, Hall wants to educate others on the importance of becoming CPR-certified, and she’s encouraging others to sign up for an American Red Cross first aid and CPR course. (Find a training course in your area here.)

“It is so easy to learn basic concepts of CPR,” she says. “And it can save someone’s life.”

Hall admits that she still becomes emotional when she thinks about how sudden it all was.

“When I sat across from him, he looked like the perfect picture of health,” Hall says of her date. “It made me realize how important every moment of our day is and how important it is for family to know how much we love them.”

CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica, Second Edition

CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica, Second Edition

Since the publication of the first edition, Mathematica has matured considerably and the computing power of desktop computers has increased greatly. This enables the presentation of more complex curves and surfaces as well as the efficient computation of formerly prohibitive graphical plots. Incorporating both of these aspects, CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica, Second Edition is a virtual encyclopedia of curves and functions that depicts nearly all of the standard mathematical functions rendered using Mathematica. While the easy-to-use format remains unchanged from the previous edition, many chapters have been reorganized and better graphical representations of numerous curves and surfaces have been produced. An introductory chapter describes the basic properties of curves and surfaces, includes two handy tables of 2-D and 3-D curve and surface transformations, and provides a quick understanding of the basic nature of mathematical functions. To facilitate more efficient and more thorough use of the material, the whole gamut of curves and surfaces is divided into sixteen individual chapters. The accompanying CD-ROM includes Mathematica notebooks of code to construct plots of all the functions presented in the book. New to the Second EditionChapters on minimal surfaces and Green’s functions that involve Poisson, wave, diffusion, and Helmholtz equationsKnots and links in the 3-D curves chapter Archimedean solids, duals of Platonic solids, and stellated forms in the regular polyhedra chapterAdditional curves and surfaces in almost every chapterExpanded index for quick access to curves or surfaces of interest and to find definitions of common mathematical termsUpgraded Mathematica notebooks with more uniform formatting, more complete documentation on particular curves and surfaces, an explanation of the plotting algorithms, and more explicit designations of variable parameters to easily adjust curve or surface plots

This Woman Found A Festive Way To Give Her Wedding Dress A Second Life

For 26 years, Tess Heidelberger’s wedding dress was sitting in a dusty box in her basement next to her Christmas decorations.

“I thought, ‘What a waste,’” she told The Huffington Post. “My basic Christmas tree skirt was on the top of the box of Christmas decorations and that’s when I got the idea to put the two of them together.”

Tess, who lives in Mauldin, South Carolina, purchased the dress in 1989 so it had all the hallmarks of 80s bridal style ― like those signature puffy sleeves. She got married the following year in 1990.

Her daughters had no interest in wearing it themselves (they felt it was too dated), so there were no objections to Tess turning the dress into an art project.

She grabbed a pair of scissors, her hot glue gun and got to work. All she needed to buy was a plain Christmas tree skirt (to put underneath the dress fabric) and some pretty ribbon to cover the glue.

“I laid out my wedding dress and cut the skirt off the dress ― the first cut is the hardest!” Tess explained to HuffPost. “Then I cut off any details on the dress, like appliqués, bows and beading. Then I pinned the wedding dress skirt on the plain Christmas tree skirt until I liked the way it looked. Then I just hot glued it in place and I added the extra appliqués I cut out earlier.”

In all, it only took Tess an hour to complete. She was very pleased with the finished product.

“I love the way it looks!” she said “I’m very sentimental so now every Christmas I can be reminded of our special day!”

Sin in the Second City

Sin in the Second City

Step into the perfumed parlors of the Everleigh Club, the most famous brothel in American history-and the catalyst for a culture war that rocked the nation. Operating in Chicago’s notorious Levee district at the dawn of the last century, the Club’s proprietors, two aristocratic sisters named Minna and Ada Everleigh, welcomed moguls and actors, senators and athletes, foreign dignitaries and literary icons, into their stately double mansion, where thirty stunning Everleigh “butterflies” awaited their arrival. Courtesans named Doll, Suzy Poon Tang, and Brick Top devoured raw meat to the delight of Prince Henry of Prussia and recited poetry for Theodore Dreiser. Whereas lesser madams pocketed most of a harlot’s earnings and kept a “whipper” on staff to mete out discipline, the Everleighs made sure their girls dined on gourmet food, were examined by an honest physician, and even tutored in the literature of Balzac. Not everyone appreciated the sisters’ attempts to elevate the industry. Rival Levee madams hatched numerous schemes to ruin the Everleighs, including an attempt to frame them for the death of department store heir Marshall Field, Jr. But the sisters’ most daunting foes were the Progressive Era reformers, who sent the entire country into a frenzy with lurid tales of “white slavery”-the allegedly rampant practice of kidnapping young girls and forcing them into brothels. This furor shaped America’ s sexual culture and had repercussions all the way to the White House, including the formation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. With a cast of characters that includes Jack Johnson, John Barrymore, John D. Rockefeller, Jr, William Howard Taft, “Hinky Dink” Kenna, and Al Capone, Sin in the Second City is Karen Abbott’s colorful, nuanced portrait of the iconic Everleigh sisters, their world-famous Club, and the perennial clash between our nation’s hedonistic impulses and Puritanical roots. Culminating in a dramatic last stand between brothel keepers and crusading r

Physique, Fitness, and Performance, Second Edition

Physique, Fitness, and Performance, Second Edition

Totally revised and updated, this second edition of the well-received Physique, Fitness, and Performance retains the unique integrated approach of its predecessor, examining the relationship of structure to function in human performance. Far surpassing the limited focus of standard exercise and fitness books, it combines the morphological study of physique relative to body structure, body size and body composition with the applied interaction of muscular, cardiovascular, motor, and metabolic system capacities, abilities, and skills developed and acquired through exercise and training programs. Establishing a background and history for the current prevalent interrelationships between physique and physical performance, the book begins by outlining the morphological, physical, motor, and metabolic component areas of study involved in physical training. Part One introduces the study of the structure-function relationships, relating body structure, size, and composition to fitness and physical performance. Part Two and Part Three present an overview of the quantitative and qualitative study of physical and physiological conditioning, motor learning, and motor control, specifically regarding the development of motor skill within general/open loop and specific/closed loop parameter guidelines. It also covers fatigue and its physiological and psychological effects on training processes. Part Four explores nutrition and the utilization of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, water, vitamins, and minerals during physical training. It includes an overview of lipids, lipoproteins, cholesterol, and atherosclerosis; dietary goals and guidelines; and risk factors relating to heart disease and obesity within health and fitness parameter guidelines. Finally, extensive appendices present the pertinent figures, tables, and forms used in evaluation and programming. Including chapter summaries, glossaries, and references, as well as detailed and extensive appendices for measurement, assessmen

CFDA Plans Second Jewelry Design Showcase

DISPLAY CASE: The Council of Fashion Designers of America will hold a second iteration of its CFDA Jewelry Showcase at its New York City headquarters on Oct. 26. The showcase, comprised of 17 CFDA-member labels, will act as a group press day for participants. The CFDA held its first jewelry showcase in October 2013, and has revisited the idea after an outpouring of interest from jewelry design members.
“It helped each of the participants be in front of editors that they might not have been otherwise be in front of. The power of a group is stronger than the power of one — it’s about creating a collective force,” CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb said of the outcome of the 2013 showcase.
Of the CFDA’s approximately 500 member labels, some 79 are jewelry designers.
Kolb said of the organization’s showcase concept: “It’s to really put a spotlight on jewelry designers; women’s fashion week is always a big deal and  gives lot of attention to women’s designers. We launched men’s fashion week this past summer and that put a significant spotlight on men’s, so it seemed natural…to categorize other segments of membership.”
This same idea will soon extend to realms outside jewelry as well.

Planner First, Everything Else Second

This past weekend was a perfect example of why I prefer to be the first person hired during the planning process, and also why it’s the best decision for a couple to make. The details for the wedding this weekend all fell together, and there wasn’t a single moment where I was worried about the professionals working that day. And while I offer “Month Of/Day Of” and Partial Coordination services, Full Coordination & Planning is the best option offered to couples, by far.

For instance, when a couple gets engaged, there is an overwhelming sense of “what do I do first?”, which is almost always followed by a panic to do everything at the same time. Countless hours are spent flipping through magazines for inspiration and looking at websites for reviews of vendors that the couple has never even heard of.

When you begin with a planner, everything starts to calm down. There are no reality TV-worthy meltdowns about the budget and how you don’t know if you should pick a destination wedding or stay close to home. It’s like walking into a little room of heaven where you can let go of that tight grip of control, speak your mind about your wishes, and have someone else do all of the leg work. You will get everything from budget assistance to venue and vendor recommendations. These will be real recommendations based on real experience, and not that star rating garbage system on the internet – when anyone could be writing those reviews.

But maybe you like a challenge. You want the drama. Well, if that’s the case, then jump in headfirst and pick up a planner along the way. Book the venue, stretch the budget, and when you’re really feeling the heat, hire a planner. Just know this: what you’ve already done, the planner might not be able to undo, and furthermore, the planner is not responsible for.

Want an example? I’ve got 400. How about when the couple has picked the venue, put down the deposit (non-refundable, by the way) and finds out 2 months prior to the wedding that their vendors only have one hour to set up? One hour for flowers, music, photobooth, linens… and everything else. They take that information back to their vendors and the florist points out that without at least 2 hours, there will be an additional fee. Then the 20-piece band chimes in with the fact that they have equipment that will take at least 3 hours for full set up. Uh-oh spaghetti-O’s. Now what? Your planner that you hired post-venue, post-florist and post-band, cannot really help you here. You signed contracts with everyone and when you booked the venue, you probably didn’t ask how long you would have for set up. Why would you? You’re not a planner and you don’t know to ask those questions.

Then there is the issue of what a vendor promised you at a meeting you were at, which was never confirmed in writing, and is now being questioned. Did you have a planner at that time? No? Well, then it’s your word versus your vendor’s word. Odds are that if you had a planner they might have been at that meeting, and if not, they would have at least confirmed it all in writing so that there would be no confusion later. With a planner along for the whole ride, they can do all of your speaking for you, which means there’s no confusion and everyone is on the same page.

How about on the actual wedding day when the vendors that you secured are falling behind the timeline, while the vendors your planner brought in are doing their jobs? While your planner can guide your vendors along and try and keep things together, if you hired these people, you are basically responsible for that decision. Stylists taking longer than expected and thus, cutting into photography time? Much like if you use someone aside from someone that your planner recommends, if you booked this vendor pre-planner, you might just be stuck. Florist didn’t show up with the correct centerpieces? Maybe it’s a florist that your planner would’ve steered you away from way back when you started your planning process.

The bottom line is: Hire a planner from Day 1 and use them for everything they’re good at. This includes using their Rolodex, which can be worth the price of a full planning package alone. They can tell you which vendors are the real deal, and which ones are writing their own 5-star reviews. They can spot a problem with a vendor a mile away before you even know it will be an issue. They will ask the questions that need answers that you didn’t even think of. Most importantly, they can assemble a team that will work well together on your wedding day. Because when a hair stylist and a makeup artist clash, it’s pretty much like watching an asteroid hit the planet.

There are countless instances when a client comes to me with a problem and I think “if you had hired me first, this wouldn’t be an issue right now”. Don’t be that client. You wouldn’t hike Mt. Everest without a guide, get to the middle and then hire one, right? Your wedding is Mt. Everest. Bring a planner to avoid any and all avalanches.

Second Time Round

Second Time Round

Everything was finally falling into place for Amy. She was certain that the choices she had made in her life had destined her for a happily ever after with the man she had chosen. Amy had always loved Christmas, not just because of the gifts and music, but also because of the warmth and the way that everyone always treated each other with so much love. Christmas was a time of togetherness, a time to celebrate the love of family and friends. So what better time could there be to have a wedding? Amy has planned every minute of her ceremony to perfection. She is certain that all it takes to be happy and have a successful life is careful planning and logical expectations. True love, as she had once believed in, now seemed like a romantic dream of a giddy teenager. What she had with her future husband she felt was much more important than a pounding heart; it was real, rational, and made perfect sense. They were good together. Their lives would be good together. At least that was what Amy continued to tell herself whenever an ounce of doubt approached her. Because of this she was not worried in the least, as most brides might be. Amy was eager to begin her new journey, she was certain she has chosen her groom wisely. He is a kind, successful, and reliable man. At least, she thought he was. Just as the ceremony is about to begin Amy’s beloved sister delivers some shocking news. There would be no wedding. There would be no perfectly planned life unfolding before Amy. Her carefully selected groom had eyes for one of Amy’s bridesmaids, and the two had run off together, leaving Amy with a wedding full of guests to face. She is painfully embarrassed to have to call off the wedding, but what is even worse is that she is not really heartbroken. She had only ever been head over heels with one man, and when that relationship did not work out she had made what she thought was a mature choice by setting aside her childish beliefs in romance and accepting the affection that sh.

Mary Katrantzou, Adidas Launch Second Capsule Collection

EIGHTIES EDGE: “I’m an Eighties baby, and it was amazing to just go back and look at all of these aerobics classes and the Seoul Olympics and just take symbols from that,” said Mary Katrantzou at the launch party in London for her second capsule collection for Adidas Originals. “We started thinking about symbolism and how we can take that within the context of Adidas. But also the silhouettes — there are little tennis dresses and diving suits and track tops so I thought that was a fun spin on the idea of symbols.” The party took place on the rooftop of Snap Studios in East London, with totem poles made by Katrantzou and the prop designer Richard Storey and adorned with the designer’s prints.
Katrantzou used collages made from sports items including a stopwatch, a tennis racket and a badminton shuttlecock for the 24-piece collection. Pieces include a structured T-shirt adorned with patches and crystals, a reversible varsity jacket, a crepe tank dress, leggings, tracksuit bottoms, boyfriend T-shirts, boy shorts, jersey swimsuits and footwear. Katrantzou also put a holographic spin on footwear with bold patterns and floral jacquards.
Prices range from 70 euros, or $ 76, for a graphic print tank to
