LBV Plans First New York Fashion Week Runway Show, Launching Ready-to-Wear

LBV LAYERS UP: As creative director of the accessories label LBV, Elizabeth Kennedy will be showing off her first ready-to-wear collection for the company during New York Fashion Week. The ethos for LBVc/o Joss Sackler 2020 stemmed from the private women’s club by the same name that was started by Joss Sackler. Salonlike in that its members share ideas and interests, the debut collection is designed to be offshoots of Sackler’s style as well as her members. Confident in Kennedy’s design acumen, the club’s founder decided to invest in her to develop ready-to-wear, well-suited for on-the-go urbanites. Cocktail dresses, eveningwear and more tailored looks are part of the 40-style collection. It will be sold via the company’s e-commerce site in January and through an estimated 20 retailers for spring. The ready-to-wear will be in the $ 700-to-$ 3,000 retail range and the evening wear will fall between $ 1,800 and $ 7,000. The inaugural runway show will be Sept. 9 at the Bowery Terrace, and high-profile stylist Alex White will be working behind the scenes. Initially, the collection will be sold direct-to-consumer via the LBV site. But in a joint interview, Kennedy and Sackler said they have plans to wholesale the collection globally. There are also

Peter Pilotto and Boss to Show at Milan Fashion Week

MILAN — Just ahead of the summer holidays earmarked for most of the Italian fashion crowd, Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana today released the first official draft of its Milan Fashion Week schedule, running Sept. 17 to 23.
Among the biggest novelties peppering the calendar, Peter Pilotto, after 12 years of shows in London, will make its official debut in Milan with a show on Sept. 18 at the Teatro Manzoni venue.
“We are very honored to join the Camera della Moda Italiana Fashion Week calendar and engage on this new journey,” said Peter Pilotto, who founded the namesake label with Christopher de Vos in 2007. “We are also proud to represent British fashion abroad in such a key and sophisticated fashion capital as Milan.” The brand in January tapped an Italian chief executive officer, Maia Guarnaccia.
The upcoming Milan Fashion Week will also see the debut of the Boss brand, which will stage a coed runway show Sept. 22 at Tortona Area Lab, as well as of leather specialist Drome, which will relocate its show from Paris.

Hilfiger’s TommyNow Show at the Apollo Theater Marks Return to New York

After traveling the world, Tommy Hilfiger is bringing its TommyNow fashion show back to New York.
On Sept. 8, the company will showcase the fall 2019 Tommy x Zendaya collaborative collection, codesigned by Tommy Hilfiger and global brand ambassador Zendaya, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. The choice of the Apollo Theater confirms a WWD report on Jan. 8.
The show is expected to continue the themes of inclusion, diversity and empowerment that Hilfiger and Zendaya brought to the TommyNow runway show in Paris for spring 2019. That runway show, which paid homage to the 1973 French-U.S. “Battle of Versailles,” featured an all-black cross-generational cast including Grace Jones, Beverly Johnson, Pat Cleveland, Grace Jones, Veronica Webb, Halima Aden, Jourdan Dunn and Winnie Harlow. Roller disco dancers on an illuminated runway warmed up the crowd of more than 1,000 guests.
The Apollo show marks Hilfiger’s return to New York, having shown in the city for fall 2016. Since that initial presentation, the worldwide tour touched down in Los Angeles for spring 2017, London for fall 2017, Milan for spring 2018, Shanghai for fall 2018, and then Paris.
“After traveling the world with TommyNow and an unforgettable show in Paris with Zendaya, I’m excited to return

Olympic, Paralympic Italian Athletes Close Emporio Armani Show

“It was incredible to see obviously the pride of the Italian nation and of Mr. Armani, who is the real image of Italy, coming out with the athletes. It was incredibly powerful – I got goosebumps,” admitted Tom Bateman after the Emporio Armani show.
The actor was referring to the finale of the show, which was closed by 20 Olympic athletes and nine Paralympians of the Italian team wearing the new EA7 Emporio Armani uniforms for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, with graphics paying homage to Japan. Previously, Giorgio Armani has dressed the Italian athletes at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, and the Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The athletes walked to the tune of “Love is in the Air,” around a stage lit up to reproduce the colors of the Italian flag.

Mahershala Ali Attends Ermenegildo Zegna Show

ALL TOGETHER NOW: Talk about diversity– Ermenegildo Zegna’s guest list was as varied as can be.
In addition to Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and Quincy Taylor Brown, the front row included Chinese singer Wang Ziyi; Egyptian actor Mena Massoud, protagonist of the 2019 remake of “Aladdin;” German-Spanish actor Daniel Brühl, the main character in the Netflix series “The Alienist;” American football player Victor Cruz; Thai actor Nine Naphat; Chilean actor, dancer and singer Jorge Lopez; British model and actor Ben Hardy from “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and British actor Will Poulter, as well as Joan Smalls.
Ali was wearing a Zegna suit when he won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Green Book,” and the actor said he has “had a nice relationship working together [with the Italian men’s wear brand] for two years.” Asked about upcoming movie roles, he laughed and said he was “working on working, putting together some nice projects.” Could an ad campaign with Zegna be in the pipeline? “Potentially,” he demurred.

Rip Up the Calendar: Men’s Show Weeks Are Not Working for Everyone

LONDON — Has the men’s wear industry outgrown its boots?
This is a golden moment for men’s wear, with flourishing sales, a fashion-loving generation of shoppers, and Instagram propelling sneaker-crazy young men into stores like never before. Despite it all, the seasonal men’s fashion calendars — with the exception of Paris — are shrinking.
The New York, London and Milan schedules have been shedding designers and brands for many reasons: Fashion houses have chosen the coed route, opted to show or present in different cities, take part in trade shows such as Pitti Uomo, or stage direct-to-consumer events, or digital shows.
Others have decided to take a step back and invest their marketing money elsewhere, refusing to be shackled to the runway — or the presentation space — season after season.
Christopher Raeburn, a longtime fixture on the London men’s calendar, has decided to pull out of the city’s spring/summer 2020 lineup, which runs from Saturday to June 10. He said he wants to explore new ways of engaging with his consumers and community.
“It is our job to disrupt, to capture and create a new mood,” said Raeburn, who last year was named global creative director of Timberland, and who continues to operate his

RCA Graduates Put on Combined Runway Show

FASHION’S FUTURE: London’s Royal College of Art hosted its annual MA fashion show on Friday night, dubbed “All at Once” at Cork Street Galleries in Mayfair. The group show consisted of looks from the graduating class, with each student presenting one look from his or her graduate collection, and the results were uneven.
Looks spanned the MA fashion women’s wear, men’s wear, knitwear and footwear programs. Some were shown downstairs in an exhibition style format, while others came as more of a presentation, with models moving from circle to circle, which were painted on the floor, when prompted by a speaker.
Some designs bordered on the conceptual, as in a white mesh bodysuit with scrunched and ruffled extensions that made the model look like an unraveled loofah sponge by women’s wear graduate Lili Zhao. Another model flowed to music wearing shiny purple latex leggings and matching cage-like heels from footwear graduate Annie Foo.

Other students showcased their talent for tailoring. Women’s wear graduate Yimeng Yu’s all-black outfit featured a long paneled black coat and relaxed trousers with slits that revealed flashes of skin when the model walked.

CFDA Teams With Project for Designer Showcase at Vegas Show

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is expanding its association with the Project trade show, starting in August in Las Vegas.
The CFDA x Project initiative will bring five men’s wear designers to the show at the Las Vegas Convention Center within a new section called N:ow Lab, a concept space that will rotate each season. Project is moving from its longtime home at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center to join the women’s and footwear shows at the convention center from Aug. 12 through Aug. 14.
The designers participating in the first edition are Kenneth Nicholson, Lukhanyo Mdingi, NIHL, Sanchez-Kane and Willy Chavarria.
Mark Beckham, chief marketing officer of CFDA, said this initiative is intended to serve as a business platform, or “matchmaking,” for these designers to connect them with potential retail customers. It will not feature runway shows, but will be a “more commercial” push that will include networking events between the brands, retailers, media and influencers attending the show.
The designers were chosen to ensure they have the wherewithal to produce and deliver any orders they might receive from retailers at the show, he said.
“As the men’s wear industry grows, our partnership with Project further reinforces our mission to strengthen the

Giorgio Armani to Hold Signature Men’s Show in June at Storied Via Borgonuovo HQ

HOME SWEET HOME: For the first time in 18 years, Giorgio Armani will show his namesake men’s collection for spring 2020 at his storied headquarters at 11 Via Borgonuovo.
The show is scheduled on June 17 at 5 p.m., closing Milan Men’s Fashion Week, which kicks off on June 14.
Armani took control in 1996 of the stately 17th-century building, Palazzo Orsini, named after the 12th-century family, but in 2001 the designer unveiled offices and his Teatro, designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando on Milan’s Via Bergognone — in a former Nestlé industrial area, and effectively helping to revamp that part of the city.
The Emporio Armani show will be held at the Teatro on June 15 at 11 a.m.
The designer has most recently been experimenting with different formats and venues. Last September, he staged a coed Emporio Armani show at Milan’s Linate Airport — at the Hangar where the imposing Emporio Armani billboard has been placed since 1996. That was the first time a fashion show was held at that site and it was followed by a Robbie Williams concert.
In February, for the first time, Armani held a coed show for his signature line at Silos, the exhibition space he opened in 2015, opposite the

Sies Marjan Expected to Show Men’s in Paris

Count Sies Marjan as the latest brand to make the jump from New York to Paris.
Sources said the buzzy New York-based brand will hold its first men’s-only show in June during Paris Fashion Week. The company declined to comment but an announcement is expected next week.

The label, designed by Sander Lak, a former head of design for Dries Van Noten, has historically shown men’s looks during his women’s show in New York, but a more-intense focus on its men’s collection has prompted the company to opt for the Paris runway where many of the higher-profile brands show.

Sies Marjan launched as a luxury women’s label in 2016 in New York. Lak, a Dutch native, debuted his first full men’s line for fall 2018.
Before spending five years at Dries Van Noten, Lak, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, worked at Balmain in Paris and Phillip Lim in New York. His Sies Marjan brand is known for its use of color, proportion and innovative materials.

Pratt Students Help Honor Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond at Annual Fashion Show

NEW YORK — Pratt showcased the work of 17 designers Thursday night at Spring Studios, and honored Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond with the Pratt Fashion Visionary Award.
In an interview Friday, Moss said he hoped students would remember that “the process is supposed to be long and intense, and if they stay the course they will eventually reach the goal and the purpose that was assigned to them by the universe. As artists, we go through the ebbs and flows and sometimes we don’t survive them. I just want them to know that at some point it does get better.”
Jean-Raymond received the award from his mentor Dapper Dan, who can appreciate that sentiment. Over the past four years, the two men have had many conversations and “Sunday talks,” Jean-Raymond said, adding that Dan has always been someone who he could count on pre-Gucci. “We navigated through different fashion industries, but at the end, we ended up in the same place,” Jean-Raymond said.
In addition to researching his next collection for his show in September, the designer said he is working on a signature shoe for Reebok. With his contract with Reebok scheduled to run out this year, the designer said he is

Fendi to Hold Show in Rome in July

BACK TO ROME: Fendi will stage a couture catwalk show in Rome on July 4 in homage to its late creative director Karl Lagerfeld, the company confirmed on Thursday.
Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of parent company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, first talked of the show at the group’s annual general assembly in Paris earlier in the morning.
He spoke of Fendi’s “great sadness” over Lagerfeld’s death in February, two days before its fall ready-to-wear show in Milan, calling the German designer “the soul of the house since many years.” Lagerfeld served as creative director at the label for a record 54 years.
“It was probably the longest collaboration there has ever been between a designer and a house, so he leaves an incredible heritage at Fendi,” said Arnault, adding that the catwalk show would “reprise all his creations during his time at Fendi.”
A Fendi spokeswoman explained that the collection will be exhibited in Rome following the show. Details about the location and the time are still being fine-tuned.
No communication has been made yet as to Lagerfeld’s successor at Fendi. The collection to be shown in Rome will be designed by the brand’s creative studio with Silvia Venturini Fendi, said

Grace Kelly’s Wardrobe on Show at Christian Dior Museum

PARIS — Grace Kelly’s wardrobe is coming to Granville.
Beginning April 27, the Christian Dior Museum, located in the designer’s family home in Granville, Normandy, will welcome more than 85 dresses from Kelly’s personal wardrobe, as part of an exhibition dedicated to her close relationship to the house of Dior.
“Grace of Monaco, Princess in Dior” will showcase the large collection of Christian Dior pieces previously owned by Kelly, carefully preserved at the Monaco palace since her death in 1982. Running until Nov. 17, the exhibition is timed with what would have been her 90th birthday.
The Hollywood actress, who starred in Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” in 1954, chose to wear Christian Dior as she entered into Monegasque royalty, following her marriage to Prince Rainier III in 1956: she appeared in a Dior gown at her engagement ball held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York that year, and chose the “Colinette,” a haute couture creation from Christian Dior’s fall 1956 collection, to wear in her first official portrait as Princesse Grace of Monaco.
“Grace Kelly’s relationship with the maison Dior reveals the central place the house occupied in fashion at the time,” explained fashion historian Florence Müller, who curated the exhibition. To prepare the

Louis Vuitton to Stage Cruise Show at JFK Airport’s TWA Flight Center

COME FLY WITH ME: Nicolas Ghesquière is making sure his next Louis Vuitton cruise collection is ready for takeoff: the show on May 8 will be held in the TWA Flight Center at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Ghesquière, who tends to gravitate toward striking modernist buildings, announced the location in an Instagram post on Monday. The terminal, which opened in 1962, was designed for TWA by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen.
Known for its wing-shaped roof and tube-shaped corridors, the mid-century modern building has been closed since 2001. It will be revived soon as the centerpiece of the TWA Hotel, set to open on May 15, housing retail, eight bars and six restaurants, including the Paris Café by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The TWA Flight Center was declared a New York City landmark in 1994 and went on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It was also used as a backdrop in Steven Spielberg’s “Catch Me If You Can” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
Louis Vuitton will be the first to stage an event in the restored building before it opens to the public.

Salvatore Ferragamo to Stage Men’s Show at Pitti Uomo

MILAN — Salvatore Ferragamo will unveil its spring 2020 men’s wear collection in the brand’s native city, Florence.
The luxury fashion house will stage a runway show on June 11 during international men’s trade show Pitti Uomo.
Following three seasons of coed shows hosted during the women’s editions of Milan Fashion Week, Salvatore Ferragamo will hold the “Florence Calling” event dedicated to its men’s wear collection, designed by creative director Paul Andrew with the support of Guillaume Meilland, head of men’s wear. Andrew has recently put on hold his namesake footwear line to focus exclusively on the design of Salvatore Ferragamo men’s and women collections.
“Florence has always been a creative and inspirational platform for Salvatore Ferragamo and for our founder. Pitti Uomo is therefore the natural location for expressing the contemporary vision that represents us today: strong cultural continuity between different generations, with a constant eye to the future,” said Andrew.
“It is an opportunity for emphasizing our DNA, that added value that makes us distinctly unique,” he added.
Salvatore Ferragamo chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo put the focus on the special link between the company and its native city.

Giorgio Armani Headed to Tokyo With Show, Armani/Ginza Tower Reopening

Signaling his admiration for the Japanese culture, Giorgio Armani is headed to Tokyo on May 24.
In the Japanese metropolis, the designer will host his first runway show for a pre-collection parading the Giorgio Armani men’s and women’s resort 2020 lineups. The location for the show has yet to be disclosed.
The show will be held in conjunction with the celebrations, that same night, for the reopening of the Armani/Ginza Tower in the city’s tony shopping district.
“I am glad to be returning to Tokyo for the reopening of Ginza Tower after its refurbishment: a major project that underscores my bond with Japan, a country whose aesthetics and culture I have always admired,” Armani said.
Nodding to the Japanese culture, the Italian designer, for instance, pierced the runway of his spring 2015 Privé haute couture show in Paris with bamboo-shaped transparent stalks and featured prints, embroideries and appliqués of the plant’s stems and leaves on the garments; gold brush strokes inspired by Japanese calligraphy decorated men’s jackets, knits and outerwear in the Emporio Armani men’s fall 2015 collection.
First unveiled in 2007, the Armani/Ginza Tower — covering about 65,000 square feet over 12 floors and two basement levels — featured the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani

Gucci to Hold Cruise 2020 Show in Rome

CLOSE TO HOME: Gucci is not traveling far for its cruise 2020 fashion show — instead, it has selected one of the most striking sites in Rome: the Capitoline Museums.
The show will be held May 28 and the choice of the location results from creative director Alessandro Michele’s ongoing interest in “the Old World,” said the company, “this time drawing from a place reminiscent of his childhood.”
Located on the Capitoline Hill, the museums display a large number of ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, and other artifacts; a collection of medieval and Renaissance art, and collections of jewels and coins, among others.
In line with his interests, most recently Michele shot the brand’s pre-fall 2019 collection in the archaeological parks of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Selinunte.
Previous Gucci Cruise shows were held at the Dia-Art Foundation in New York City; the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London; the Palatine Gallery at Pitti Palace in Florence, and last year, the Promenade Des Alyscamps in a Roman necropolis in the southern French city of Arles.
In addition, over the next two years the Florence-based company will make a donation to support the restoration project of the Rupe Tarpea, the Tarpeian Rock, a steep cliff of the southern summit

Cottweiler Becomes First British Brand to Show at Seoul Fashion Week

LONDON — The British Fashion Council is furthering its partnership with Seoul Fashion Week in support of emerging talent, with men’s wear label Cottweiler the first to benefit from the special relationship.
Cottweiler, the streetwear brand that won the 2016-17 International Woolmark Prize for men’s wear, will be the first British name to be sponsored at Seoul Fashion Week in March. The brand will restage its fall 2019 show alongside those of South Korean designers.
“We are very grateful to be given the opportunity by the BFC and Seoul Fashion Week to present our work to a wider audience and connect to our already growing fan base in South Korea,” said designers Matthew Dainty and Ben Cottrell of Cottweiler. “This will be our first venture outside of London Fashion Week and for it to be in a city that embraces cutting-edge style like no other is an exciting prospect.”
The BFC-Seoul partnership aims to support emerging British and South Korean talent through sponsorships and to provide them with the opportunity to showcase directly to buyers and media.

A Moment of Silence — and a Serene Mountain Set — for Karl Lagerfeld’s Last Chanel Show

No one coughed. It felt like no one even breathed.
Karl Lagerfeld’s last show for Chanel opened with a moment of silence, and the vast Grand Palais was as hushed as the mountain village depicted in the set, rows of wooden chalets, their chimneys smoking, set among pine trees and mounds of fake snow.
Lagerfeld loved snow — he would rush out to take photos whenever it dusted Paris — and his finale looks were white “snowball” sweater dresses with fluffy skirts, the first modeled by Penélope Cruz, who strolled out smiling and twirling a flower.
“I felt like laughing and crying at the same time, to see all these people that loved him so much celebrating him together. But seeing all this, also it’s the beginning of something else, all that he’s created over all these years,” Cruz said.
“The collection I saw today gave me goosebumps because everything is there: the past, present and future. I loved that they took the time at the beginning of the show, that they asked for that minute of silence. It made everybody stop and breathe, then there was the right kind of energy for the show,” she added.

Threeasfour Plans Art-Infused Runway Show at the Guggenheim’s Theater

NEW YORK — An assortment of artistic touches will be center stage when Threeasfour returns to the runway Thursday night at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s theater. The last collection they showed in New York was spring 2017.
Adi Gil and Gabriel Asfour will be dedicating the show in memory of their friend Kate Spade. In 1997 working for Spade as creative director, Asfour helped to start the clothing component of her collection and their own brand’s upcoming one will be colorful as hers were. The designers collaborated with the artist Stanley Casselman, transforming his paintings into the fall collection, in order to highlight the collision of art, fashion and design. Supporters often refer to Threeasfour’s design as art, so Asfour said he and Gil decided “Why not do it as art? Instead of using fabric, we’re using paintings.” Victoria Bartlett will be styling the show, which is being choreographed by Maria Hassabi with performer Tyler Ashley serving as emcee. Sean Lennon, Maria Cornejo, Waris Ahluwalia and Arden Wohl are expected to be in the crowd of 280.

“Università Bocconi is a world class institution. Salvatore Ferragamo, Etro to Change Show Venues

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Come Milan Fashion Week, fashion editors had better double check their invitations to avoid logistical snafus.
After 12 years showing at Palazzo Mezzanotte, home to the Milan Stock Exchange, Salvatore Ferragamo is changing location, confirming a WWD scoop on Tuesday. The Florence-based brand will hold its fall 2019 coed runway show at the Rotonda della Besana on Feb. 23.
The late Baroque Rotonda comprises the 18th Century church of San Michele ai Nuovi Sepolcri, surrounded by a circular portico and surmounted by a central octagonal cupola. A storied symbol of the city, it has been a popular venue over the years, with brands including Alberta Ferretti, Les Hommes and Corneliani showing there. It was the site of Marni’s Flower Market.
Paul Andrew, Ferragamo’s women’s creative director, said he was drawn to the Rotonda because of the sense of “profound intimacy it infuses. We were looking for a location that would have a more classic and historical connotation, but that at the same time would be a dynamic point of reference for the city. In addition, its circularity conveys a sensation of inclusivity, perfectly in line with the values of the maison that we want to communicate.”

MM6 Maison Margiela to Show During Milan Fashion Week

MILAN ON THE MIND: MM6 Maison Margiela, the contemporary line of Maison Margiela, is heading to Italy.
For the first time since its launch in 1997, the label will present its new collection in Milan with an event on Feb. 20 during Milan Fashion Week.
“MM6 will take the street again in a two-hours presentation format reflecting the inclusivity spirit of the brand: one creative concept will spread through the whole collection and will take over the venue in an immersive experience,” the brand said in a statement on Tuesday.
The planned show follows the opening of the first MM6 Maison Margiela boutique in Milan’s Porta Nuova district last February. It marks the latest move for the collection, which was shown in London since the spring 2016 season, and in New York and Paris before that.
Last September, the label’s design collective swapped its usual presentation format for a runway show, which saw models parade around a dimly lit Covent Garden warehouse, complete with broken chandeliers, cracked mirrors and graffiti across the walls.

Viktor & Rolf’s Couture Show Goes Viral on Instagram

Viktor & Rolf’s Instagram-inspired couture collection is coming full circle: It’s gone viral.
Taking inspiration from Instagram caption one-liners, like “Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come” and “I’m not shy I just don’t like you,” the brand’s fanciful collection of tulle ballgowns at Wednesday’s spring 2019 couture show has been flooding Instagram feeds and has even inspired a number of memes.
Artist and meme account Saint Hoax joined in on the fun with a series of altered images from the Viktor & Rolf runway featuring celebrities and quotes they’re infamously known for, like Lady Gaga’s overused “100 people in the room” story from the “A Star Is Born” press tour and one of Kris Jenner’s most memorable quotes from “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
Calling the collection of dresses “Fashion Statements,” the designers wanted to balance the overused sayings with over-the-top dresses that reference the ruffles and large silhouettes of period dress.
“It’s the kind of message you find on social media, with the same instant feeling,” Rolf Snoeren noted during a preview of the collection with WWD. “All these statements that are so obvious or easy — there’s a lot of banality on Instagram and social media in

Benetton to Hold First Show With Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

BENETTON’S NEW COLORS: United Colors of Benetton is planning its first runway show with the artistic direction of fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who joined the Italian company in October. The show, to be held on Feb. 19, will kick off Milan Fashion Week, which is slated to end on Feb. 25.
The arrival of de Castelbajac, who is in charge of both the men’s and women’s collections, is a new role for the company,  and one hailed as a major step for the label, following the return of Luciano Benetton as chairman of the group in January last year.
De Castelbajac first launched his brand Ko & Co with his mother Jeanne-Blanche de Castelbajac in 1968 in Limoges. The designer inspired trends such as the “anti-fashion” movement and the alternative use of objects such as rags and sponges to decorate garments.
In 1974, he cofounded Iceberg, and in 1978, he launched the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac brand, which he left in 2016. Over the years, he has also collaborated with Max Mara, Ellesse, Courrèges, Rossignol and Le Coq Sportif. Blending punk and pop references, his style dovetails with Benetton’s use of strong colors and a whimsical and irreverent touch.

Kate Moss, Lily Allen Attend Dior Men Show

LOCATION LOCATION: Lily Allen was in mock casting-agent mode arriving at the Dior Men show on Friday, with her tell-all, best-selling memoir, “My Thoughts Exactly,” set to be made into a film or TV series.
Sporting a silver leopard-print anorak accessorized with a diamond cannabis-shaped necklace she picked up at Icebox in Atlanta, Allen, who is also working on a second book, her fifth album and two musicals, had inadvertently matched her black lipstick to the color of the venue, a sprawling ephemeral structure set on the Champ-de-Mars opposite the École Militaire, with the Eiffel Tower looming in the near distance.
When asked who should play her, the singer, who said the format for the adaptation has not yet been decided, shrugged, surveyed the space, and jokingly pointed to the nearest fellow front-rower: Christina Ricci.
An unassuming Ricci, a friend of Dior Men creative director Kim Jones who had flown from Los Angeles to support his sophomore outing for the house, was taking in the space. “It’s very impressive to see this big Brutalist tent set against the beauty and elegance of Paris,” she said.
Other high-profile guests attending the event included Kate Moss, joined by her beau Count Nikolai von Bismarck; Robert Pattinson and Naomi Campbell.

Thom Browne Attends First Ermenegildo Zegna Show

FAST FRIENDS: “He’s my new best friend, I love our friendship,” gushed Thom Browne of Gildo Zegna, chief executive officer of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group. Although his own show is slated for Paris next week, the designer took the time to fly to Milan to show his support for Zegna, which took a majority stake in Thom Browne Inc. at the end last August. While Browne demurred from detailing any specific future plan for the brand, he said there will be “a lot more stores opening in the next couple of years.”
In a sign of Zegna’s pull in China, Hong Kong singer and actor William Chan Wai-ting attended the show, flanked by, among others, the brand’s longtime friend, actor Daniel Brühl; model Winnie Harlow, who snapped photos of the looks throughout the show, and American actor McCaul Lombardi, who fronted Zegna’s advertising campaign with Robert De Niro in 2017. Michele Norsa, vice chairman of Missoni, was also at the show, having joined the board of Zegna in 2017.

Paris Men’s Show Calendar Still In Flux as Protests Loom

IN FLUX: The calendar for next Saturday’s shows at Paris men’s fashion week continues to evolve, as organizers work to avert any danger of France’s yellow vests movement spoiling their carefully planned showcases.
Following Dior’s decision to advance its show to Friday, several other brands have rescheduled, although they have stuck to their original Jan. 19 date. Brands have contacted guests to advise them of the new time slots, but have requested the details be kept confidential in order not to alert protest organizers.
The show calendar on the web site of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, French fashion’s governing body, has not been updated yet to reflect the changes. Brands showing on Saturday include Sacai, Loewe, Thom Browne, White Mountaineering and Hermès.
Ralph Toledano, president of the federation, said it was in touch with city authorities to make sure everything goes without a hitch.
“We are working with the Paris police, which have made a number of recommendations concerning locations and time slots. Naturally, they are implementing every possible and imaginable measure, so we have followed those recommendations in a responsible manner,” Toledano told WWD.
He noted that it wasn’t the first time the federation has tweaked its schedule

Beckhams Turn Out for Kent & Curwen Show, ‘Peaky Blinders’ Debut

PEAK PERFORMANCE: “We watch ‘Peaky Blinders’ all the time — and dress like that every day,” said Brooklyn Beckham, his bearded face shaded by a charcoal flat cap at the Kent & Curwen show in London on Sunday.
The Beckhams’ eldest son, who was wearing a collarless shirt and peg trousers from the new “Peaky Blinders” collaboration with Kent & Curwen, attended the show with girlfriend Hana Cross, parents David and Victoria Beckham, and BBC TV series’ creator, Steven Knight, among others.
The capsule collection made its debut at the fall/winter 2019 Kent & Curwen show, which took place at Two Temple Place, William Waldorf Astor’s former office and a Victorian gem of a building overlooking the Thames with stained glass windows, wood paneling and Arts and Crafts interiors.
Designed by Kent & Curwen’s creative director Daniel Kearns, the capsule includes flat caps, frock coats, peg trousers and a special rose logo that appears on shirts, tops and knits. He riffed on the look of the actors in “Peaky Blinders,” the hit show that centers on the lives of 1920’s street gangsters in Birmingham, England and the policemen trying to keep them in line.

EXCLUSIVE: Moschino to Host Men’s 2019 Show in Rome

MILAN — Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott is ready to take Rome, WWD has learned.
The Italian brand will show its men’s fall 2019 and its women’s pre-fall 2019 collections with a special runway event to be hosted the night of Jan. 8 in the Italian capital.
“I have chosen to show the collection in Rome at the historic Cinecittà studios as the show is an homage to the great Federico Fellini who filmed some of his most iconic films there,” Scott said.
“I’ve taken inspiration from his body of work and the amazing characters he has created from the films ‘Roma,’ ‘La Dolce Vita,’ ‘Satyricon,’ ‘8 1/2’ and ‘Casanova,’ to name a few.”
Scott is not the first international designer to choose Cinecittà as the set of his show. In December 2015, Karl Lagerfeld hosted the Chanel Métiers d’Art fall 2015 runway show at the Roman studios, where he recreated the streets of Paris.
The Moschino runway show will coincide with the Florentine men’s trade show Pitti Immagine Uomo, which opens the same day and ends on Dec. 11.
Previously, Scott has shown his men’s collections for the Moschino brand in London, Los Angeles and Milan.

South African Fashion on Show at Zeitz MOCAA

South Africa’s fashion and art crowd descended upon Cape Town this week for the pre-opening party of contemporary art museum Zeitz MOCAA’s first fashion exhibition, “21 Years: Making Histories With South African Fashion Week.”
SA Fashion Week, founded by former model Lucilla Booyzen in 1997, marked the anniversary last October with a small exhibition shown during the presentation of the SAFW 2019 fall collections in the Johannesburg suburb of Sandton City. Booyzen chose 21 designers as a historical recap of the past 21 years of SA fashion, and planned a book to accompany the exhibit.
“When Erica de Greef, the senior fashion curator of Zeitz MOCAA, heard that I was going to do a book and an exhibition, she was incredibly excited, and she then planned to do an edited version of what I did in Johannesburg at Zeitz,” Booyzen recounted.
Curated by de Greef, the exhibition occupies two gallery spaces on the museum’s fourth level and features 21 ensembles from 21 designers, spanning different styles, multiple collections and various seasons, showcasing, in effect, a micro-history of South African fashion since 1997. On show are designers such as Clive Rundle, Amanda Laird Cherry and Loxion Kulca, alongside younger names such as Sindiso Khumalo, Thebe

Christian Dada and Bed J.W. Ford Stage Joint Show in Tokyo

TOKYO — Christian Dada designer Masanori Morikawa teamed with Bed J.W. Ford’s Shinpei Yamagishi on a joint show during Tokyo Fashion Week Wednesday. Backed by Amazon, the week’s headlining sponsor, through its At Tokyo event series, the show was held on two levels of a parking garage, with the models walking a long runway on each floor.
Neither brand has shown during Tokyo Fashion Week for several seasons, as both have begun focusing more on international markets. But their homegrown name recognition made the event one of the hottest tickets on the week’s calendar.
While the two designers have differing sensibilities, together they created an interesting display of contrasts. Dark and light, polished and undone, fitted and loose, monochrome and colorful. Morikawa sent out clean trousers, asymmetric shirts, and blazers with snaps down the sleeves, all done out in white, black and shirting stripes. Yamagishi, on the other hand, incorporated outdoorsy and Southwestern influences, with horse-print shirts, fringed jackets, and bomber jackets with tile prints.

The Not So Swinging Thirties to Take the Spotlight in New London Show

SOBERING UP: The Turbulent Thirties and its fashion — ranging from the influence of Hollywood films to the rise of suburbia — will be the focus of a new show called “Night and Day: 1930s Fashion & Photographs” at The Fashion and Textile Museum. The exhibition will open Friday and run until Jan. 20.
Split into different tableaux, the exhibition highlights the changing political and cultural landscape of the decade, and its impact on fashion. There will be a total of 100 looks on display, lent by Mark and Cleo Butterfield of C20 Vintage.
“Whilst carrying out the research and planning Night and Day, it became clear that escapism was a major theme that needed to be explored. While the decade is famous for its glamorous bias-cut evening gowns that showcased a woman’s curves and its magical musicals full of romance and glamour, these years were defined by a constant anxiety about the harsh economic reality and shifting social status,” said co-curator Teresa Collenette.

Versace to Hold Pre-Fall Show in New York

NEW YORK BOUND: Donatella Versace will hold her Versace pre-fall collection in New York on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., WWD has learned. The date has a special meaning for the designer, as it is her late brother Gianni’s birthday. Details about the location are being kept under wraps. This is the first time Versace plans a fashion show for the pre-fall season.
It is understood the decision to show in New York was made before the acquisition of the company last month by Michael Kors Holdings. In a $ 2.1 billion deal, Versace joined the Kors and Jimmy Choo brands under the Michael Kors Holdings umbrella, which is renaming itself Capri Holdings to reflect the growing and changing group.
The first week of December is shaping up as quite a fashionable one, as Chanel has scheduled its Métiers d’Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Dec. 4, as reported.
Other brands are bringing their pre-fall collections outside national borders. As reported, Valentino will hold a runway show in Tokyo on Nov. 27 to present its men’s and women’s pre-fall 2019 collection together for the first time, and Dior plans to stage its first men’s pre-fall runway show with a collection designed by Kim Jones scheduled

Lady Gaga Attends Hedi Slimane’s Debut Show for Celine

PARTY FAITHFUL: The front row at Hedi Slimane’s show for Celine was filled with longtime friends of the designer, with Karl Lagerfeld, Catherine Deneuve, Lou Doillon, Joséphine de La Baume, Alexa Chung and Mark Ronson joining a legion of musicians at the event, held in a tent in front of the Hôtel des Invalides on Friday.
While the dark venue provided good cover for many celebrities in attendance, there was no missing Lady Gaga, who stood in the center of a throng of flashing cameras with Lagerfeld. The singer provided the first glimpse of Slimane’s new Celine designs when she was seen carrying the 16 handbag on Instagram on Aug. 30.
Gaga, wearing an Alaïa snakeskin trenchcoat, was on a break from promoting her new movie “A Star Is Born” following its U.K. premiere on Thursday. Ronson helped to write the track “Shallow,” in which she sings a duet with her costar Bradley Cooper.
Sitting opposite her was Alex Kapranos, lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, who has worn Slimane’s creations since the designer was at Dior Homme.
“Hedi’s always been a good friend to the musicians all around the world and we all love him as well — he’s a great guy. Personally speaking,

Cardi B Gets Her Morning Face On at the Mugler Show in Paris

EARLY BIRD: Despite giving one of her first live performances since the birth of her daughter Kulture, Cardi B was among the guests filing into the 10 a.m. Mugler show in Paris on Wednesday.
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper posed for photographers in a tailored black jacket that was cut open in the back to reveal sheer cycling shorts with lacing details — as well as a glimpse of her black thong. She was up at 6 a.m. getting her makeup done for the show.
“It was really hard for me to get up this morning because, you know, the time difference — I’m still in an America time frame in my head — so I was like, ‘Oh, man!’ But you gotta do it. Gotta work!” she said with a bright smile.

The rapper is riding high despite her high-profile brawl with Nicki Minaj at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party during New York Fashion Week.
She performed at the Etam lingerie event in Paris on Tuesday night, a day after “Girls Like You,” her track with Maroon 5, made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first female rapper with three Billboard number-one singles.

Julianne Moore, Armie Hammer Attend Salvatore Ferragamo Show

POWER OF TWO: Two Hollywood power couples turned heads at the Salvatore Ferragamo show on Sunday morning: Julianne Moore dressed in red, arm-in-arm with her husband, producer and director Bart Freundlich, and Armie Hammer with his wife Elizabeth Chambers. While Moore was not giving interviews, Hammer said he finished promoting critically acclaimed “Call Me by Your Name,” and hinted at other possible collaboration with director Luca Guadagnino. “We’ve been onto other projects, but I am still happy to have done that,” he said of the Oscar-nominated film. “I’m definitely going to see him while I’m here.” Hammer’s next film, “On The Basis of Sex,” premieres in December and chronicles the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Hammer is in town for a few days, and is expected to attend the Green Carpet Fashion Awards at the La Scala theater on Sunday evening, as is Moore. Guests at Ferragamo also included Ellie Bamber, Philippa Coultard and Jeremy Irvine.

How a Young Designer Produces a Fashion Show

While the industry continues to question the importance of New York Fashion Week, Shanel Campbell, a 26-year-old Parsons graduate, believes the platform is still important.
She will embark on her first fashion show on Sept. 5, a little bit ahead of the official start of fashion week, and here she outlines how she’s producing a show and what she hopes to achieve. This is the second story in a series that will follow Campbell as she develops her collection and builds a business. WWD previously spoke to Campbell about what she envisions for her brand after being endorsed by Solange Knowles and Issa Rae.
WWD: What are your plans for fashion week?

Shanel Campbell: It’s going to be a runway show into a presentation and it’s 18 looks. I want it to be very intimate so you can take your time and look at everything. I don’t want too much thrown at people. When you see too much, you start to not care. When I see a huge collection on my phone, I just start swiping and swiping and swiping. It’s going to be really fun. Very informal and more of a community gathering than an uptight fashion show. But the fashion show element

Snapchat Show to Pre-Release Adidas’ Falcon W on Saturday

Snap Inc. and Darkstore are partnering with Adidas to pre-release a new model of the Originals sneaker in “Fashion 5 Ways,” a new Snapchat show debuting this Saturday. The move is the first product launch for the ephemeral social network’s programmatic content.
Inspired by Nineties running shoes, the kicks — Adidas’ Originals Falcon W sneaker — will be featured in the first episode of Thumb Candy Media’s “Fashion 5 Ways,” a series from the creators of one of Snapchat’s most popular shows, “Nail the Look.” The show features women exploring creative ways to wear fashion staples, like sneakers, and the first episode will be available in the app’s Discover page.
In addition, “Fashion 5 Ways’” audience will also be able to buy the shoe right from the show by just swiping up. This is the first time a Snap show has ever offered product purchases, though it’s not the first deal between Snap and a shoe company. The social network had a previous “shoe drop” with Nike in February, but that required a physical presence and Snapcode scanning.
This is the latest move in Snap’s bid to become an e-commerce hub, pushing social commerce via shopping from ads.
As a pre-release, Falcon W will

Disney Villains and The Blonds Join Forces for Runway Show

DISNEY’S MOST WICKED HIT THE RUNWAY: Some of Disney’s most wicked characters will be taking center stage during New York Fashion Week on Sept. 7. Luxury fashion brand The Blonds will present their spring 2019 runway collection at Spring Studios, inspired by several of Disney’s most devilish characters.
The Blonds, cofounded by designer Phillipe Blond and creative director David Blond, will feature looks inspired by Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, Evil Queen, The Queen of Hearts, Dr. Facillier, Ursula and her dark eel minions Flotsam and Jetsam.

The Blonds team up with Disney Villains for its runway show Sept. 7.

“The Disney Villains style is iconic and has inspired us since childhood and throughout our career. The opportunity to collaborate with Disney and see these designs come to life on The Blonds runway is an absolute dream come true,” said Phillipe Blond.
“What drew us to working with Disney Villains are the complex attributes of the characters themselves,” said David Blond. “Often misunderstood, Disney Villains are flawed, imposing and mysterious, and we loved the idea of taking these characteristics and translating them in a glamorous way, making them the heroes of our story.”
Ken Potrock, president, consumer products and commercialization at Disney, said, “Disney Villains have long lived

Agnona Runway Show to Be Included on Official Milan Fashion Week Calendar

OFFICIAL SLOT: Following a few seasons of presentations and intimate shows, Agnona is making its first appearance among the brands listed by the Italian fashion chamber on September’s Milan Fashion Week official schedule, which Camera della Moda is releasing on Friday.
“It’s a formalization of what we have been doing in the next couple of years, since I joined the brand,” said Simon Holloway, which was tapped by the label’s parent Ermenegildo Zegna Group as Agnona creative director in November 2015. “I’m very happy Agnona is finally on the calendar, which is something the brand deserves, being a champion of the most authentic Made in Italy. Milan is such an incredible family of exciting and diverse brands.”
Holloway said the brand, which will show its spring 2019 collection on Sept. 22 at Milan’s Triennale design museum, is not hosting any mega events, instead keeping it small and intimate.
As part of the company’s retail expansion plan, last May Agnona inaugurated its first store in London, on Albemarle Street in the Mayfair neighborhood, and is opening a flagship in Moscow next fall.
