Nick Graham Expands Into Sportswear, Swimwear

Nick Graham is creating a collection. The designer and founder of the Joe Boxer brand will introduce sportswear and swimwear under the Nick Graham label for spring 2020 at the Project show in Las Vegas next week. The sportswear collection is being called “Happy America” and is inspired by Fifties Miami Beach with a healthy dose of Graham’s signature ironic sense of humor. Rayon shirts, for example, are offered in pastel colors and feature prints such as a parrot smoking a pipe and wearing fedora and toucans with headphones and a flamingo with a large dollar sign. “They’re not so subtle, but then I’ve never been subtle,” the designer said with a laugh. He said he was inspired by a time when America “was simpler and not so complicated. I was looking at some imagery from that era, and the style seemed to match the optimism of the day. I wanted to try to capture that feeling.” The collection includes unstructured sport coats, slim five-pocket jeans and chinos in stretch twill and multicolor cotton polos. L.A. Brand Cult Gaia Launches Swimwear With Adriana Degreas

Cult Gaia, the accessories and resort wear brand that Instagram built one bamboo Ark bag “like” at a time, is dipping a toe into swimwear.
Founder Jasmin Larian is collaborating with luxury Brazilian label Adriana Degreas on a 21-piece collection inspired by tropical surrealism and Cult Gaia’s geometric and nature-inspired handbag hardware.
The collaboration includes bikini and one-piece suits with tortoise acrylic details, and loose, silk cover-ups in prints of exotic birds in the body of a female figure against a background of tropical foliage in shades of green, ecru and pink. WWD List: Lingerie Brands Sporting Swimwear

Shoppers are hot for swimwear right now.
And it’s not just because summer is coming. Or, because lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret recently started selling swimsuits again. Thanks to platforms like Instagram, swimwear has become a year-round business.  
Sales in the global swimwear category totaled $ 21.7 billion last year, according to market research firm Euromonitor International.
And more lingerie brands are now trying to get a piece of that market, invading swimwear with their own collections of bikinis and one-piece bathing suits.
The transition might seem natural for the two categories that share many characteristics. 
But Cora Harrington, founder of the blog The Lingerie Addict, said it would be easier for companies to sell swimwear than lingerie.
“It’s hard to convince people that they should be spending more than $ 25 or $ 30 on a bra,” said Harrington, author of “In Intimate Detail: How to Choose, Wear and Love Lingerie.” “There doesn’t seem to be that same challenge when it comes to swimwear. People are more willing to spend $ 50 or $ 100, or even $ 200 on a swimsuit.”

Trina Turk Teams Up With ‘Incredibles 2’ for Active Swimwear

Trina Turk has partnered with Disney Pixar to create a capsule collection of active swimwear inspired by “Incredibles 2,” which opens June 15.
Launching Wednesday, the capsule encourages an adventurous lifestyle and inspires consumers to embrace their inner superhero. The 12-piece capsule consists of black activewear pieces with graphic red and white stripes and the “Incredibles” logo, two black and ivory geometric print jersey dresses, one pair of Edna Mode-type women’s sunglasses and two men’s swim and active pieces.
“It’s very clean and simple. It’s kind of swimwear and it’s kind of activewear. It can go either way,” said Turk, describing the rash guard, leggings and women’s swimsuits (a bikini with two top options, a one-piece tank and a long-sleeve swimsuit). The “Incredibles” logo is a lower case “i” with a swirl around it.

McCartney said because she designs swimwear for women, it was only right that she should do the same for men, and that launching the collection felt like a natural progression.

Devereux to Launch Swimwear for Resort

Devereux is plunging into the swimwear space.
The brand will expand its resort collection to include swimwear for the first time and will introduce a 15-piece collection to retailers at the trade shows this month. It will be offered to consumers in November.
Designer Robert Brunner focused the collection around two styles: the Amalfi swim trunk and the Bond board short. The Amalfi offers an elastic waistband, side pockets, a full lining and is made from a quick-dry fabric. The Bond board short has a snap button front, side pockets and also utilizes quick-dry fabric.
“I was determined to make a proper swimwear collection that was about fit, performance and quality. I spent the last couple of years developing swimwear in Portugal because I want to give our customer the craftsmanship and quality of a fine European garment,” Brunner said.

The swimsuits will retail between $ 115 and $ 135.

Mack Weldon Introduces Swimwear

Mack Weldon is launching swimwear.
The direct-to-consumer men’s basics line has introduced a board short, which retails for $ 98, and trunks, which retail for $ 88, that will come in five color ways.
“There’s a lot of great looking and functional swimwear out there, but we always struggled to find the perfect blend,” said Brian Berger, Mack Weldon’s founder and chief executive officer. “Options felt too sporty or too high fashion so we went to work. The result is something that can hold its own riding the surf or strolling to beach bar.”
Matthew Congdon, the vice president of design at Mack Weldon, said the plan for the collection was to merge classic swimwear styles with innovative fabrics. Both styles are made from antimicrobial, quick-drying stretch material and include a waterproof zip pocket to protect valuables.
“Some of us loved active swimwear, but it never looked so great out of the water,” said Congdon. “Some of us loved traditional swimwear, but conceded that the fabrics were stuck in the past. Much like we approach other great menswear basics, our goal was to combine all the latest technology with classic style.”
Mack Weldon has continued to grow since Brian Berger and Michael Isaacman cofounded it in 2012.

St. Regis Partners With Vilebrequin for Red Snapper-Inspired Swimwear

SINK OR SWIM: Over the years, many have spent a night drinking Bloody Marys in the King Cole Bar at The St. Regis New York without ever checking in. Now the hotel chain’s signature cocktail is being celebrated through a partnership with Vilebrequin.
The brand has developed swim trunks for men and boys imprinted with a red snapper pattern. The design hails to the cocktail’s nickname. In 1934, when Fernand Petiot brought his signature vodka and tomato juice mixer from Paris’ La Maisonette Russe to what was then the new King Cole Bar, the drink was renamed the “Red Snapper” to avoid offending the well-heeled clientele. Eighty-three years later the cocktail remains the must-have libation for many at St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.
The new red, blue and orange limited-edition swimwear is being sold online via St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. The men’s version retails for $ 250 and boys’ styles range from $ 120 to $ 140.

Fuzzi Launches Swimwear Line

DIVING IN: Fuzzi, the Italy-based, Aeffe SpA-owned knitwear company founded by Adele Bacchiani Fuzzi in 1954 — perhaps best known for producing knits for Jean Paul Gaultier in a collaboration that began in 1983 and lasted more than 30 years — is in expansion mode. Since the closing of Gaultier’s rtw business in September 2014, Fuzzi has made a name for itself with an expanded women’s collection that goes beyond its signature printed tulle knitwear. And for spring 2016, to build upon its lineup of dresses and separates, the company will launch its first swimwear line.
Marianne Hicks, who served as the senior vice president of Jean Paul Gaultier North America for over 20 years and joined Fuzzi in 2012, serves as the collection’s New York-based creative director. Hicks works closely with Anna Maria Fuzzi, the daughter of Adele Bacchiani Fuzzi, at the brand’s Cattolica, Italy-based factory, where the team continues to expand the scope of the collection. “Having developed Gaultier’s swim business from the beginning, I was very saddened when Gaultier shut his business,” said Hicks. “I always loved swimwear, had established relationships with the stores and knew that it was an area that I wanted to eventually explore with Fuzzi.
