Men’s Trend Spring 2020: Man as Muse

A new model of masculinity was on display at the men’s runway shows for spring as designers tapped into today’s tectonic cultural shifts to offer softer, more fluid and gender-bending styles, including pearls and handbags for men. It all generated an artistic vibe, as seen here in a Comme des Garçons coat with pleated sleeves and shorts suit.

Men’s Spring 2020 Trend: Hang Loose

Men’s wear designers amped up the volume for spring — from looser cuts on suits and trousers to flowing ponchos and baggy knitwear. Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garçons captured the style with her stellar collection, which played on the theme of Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando,” and also hit the genderless trend.

Chainmail Is a Trend Happening at Paris Fashion Week

As many stay tuned to Paris Fashion Week, an unlikely fashion trend has popped up among the Parisian street-style set: chainmail.
The 12th-century armor, originally a mesh made up of metal rings to protect the head and body, has been reimagined by many Paris showgoers, who are wearing the style in silver, gold and black as clothing, headwear and handbags.
Giving a nod to the medieval chainmail style, two showgoers were seen wearing the style as headwear, one with a black chain-link headpiece worn over a metallic silver headscarf and another wearing a silver chain-link headpiece with a matching handbag.

Others went with more of a disco theme. Designer Michelle Elie wore a silver metallic sequined dress with a matching bag, while another paired a metallic gold chain-link top with a matching gold sequined skirt.

Over the decades, the style has been a runway staple, most notably by Paco Rabanne, who made it his signature style in the Sixties. Most recently, the look was interpreted for fall by designers including Christian Siriano, who gave models ponytails tied together with links of chainmail; Area, which accented clothing with colorful

Celebrity Kids Are Getting in on Over-The-Top Dorm Room Trend: See Their Lavish College Digs

A simple bedspread and a poster stuck on the wall doesn’t cut it for college dorm decor anymore.

Today, incoming undergrads are upping their decorating agenda (and budget!) to give their dorms a more luxurious vibe. Many kids go all out, spending money on throw pillows, extra seating, beautiful storage and fun wall art to make their blank-slate digs feel like a Pinterest-perfect home.

In 2017, two Ole Miss students’ impeccably decorated dorm room went viral on social media. Their monogrammed pillows and tufted headboards looked incredibly high-end, but the girls did the whole thing on a budget, shopping at stores like TJ Maxx and Marshall’s to update their once-dreary space.

The same year, two freshmen at Texas State University showed off their lofted twin beds with canopies and faux brick wallpaper, which gave their room a city apartment vibe.

Now, celebrities’ kids are hopping on the trend of sprucing up their college living spaces.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards helped decorate her daughter Sophia Umansky’s suite-style dorm in Washington, D.C., with luxe velvet seating that doubles as shoe storage and gold wall fans that make it feel more like home.

“We really wanted this room to reflect her style so that she would feel like she was bringing a little piece of home with her here,” Kyle told PEOPLE of the space, which they decorated with pieces from HomeGoods. “It’s hard when you leave home, so we wanted her to feel comfy and just feel like it was her own personal space.”

“It’s not going to be a cookie-cutter dorm room where everybody’s room looks the same,” she said.

Umansky wanted a “retro glam” style, so the mother-daughter duo shopped with a blush and white color scheme in mind and added pops of gold.

Lisa Rinna‘s daughter Delilah Belle Hamlin moved into her first apartment in N.Y.C. in March ahead of her freshman year at New York University, where she starts in January. In decorating her two-bedroom, two-bathroom space, the 20-year-old runway model opted for youthful decorations like gold-accented bubble chairs suspending from the ceiling, furry millennial pink pillows and a delicate metal chandelier above her bed.

“Initially I wanted black, white, and gray, but the design team suggested a pop of color,” she told Town & Country in their August issue. “We went with pink, and I’m glad we did.”

Hamlin is hardly the first young celeb to forgo the college dorm experience for a swanky apartment. Before starting at NYU in 2004, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen reportedly dropped $ 7.3 million on four penthouse apartments in Greenwich village, turning them into a massive 5,725-square-foot abode. Although they decorated the space, the Olsens never lived in the apartment, instead choosing to live separately. Ultimately, they both dropped out of the university.

However, many celebrities and their children have opted for the traditional dorm route, and have even found ways to transform their hall-style rooms (with shared bathrooms for everyone!) into glam college crash pads. Boston University alumna Olivia Culpo teamed up with eBay for an affordable line of dorm decor to make college feel more like home.

“My dorm room showcased my personality with a cozy white rug and fresh flowers. I also tried pink wallpaper,” she told PEOPLE. “Now, would opt for a more minimal, clean look,” she said. “I might also add some gold accents to make it even more stylized.”

Shotgun Engagements — the Celebrity Summer Trend

No one needs to be reminded that life moves fast. This summer celebrity engagements do, too. Three much-photographed couples didn’t need much time to reveal they plan to marry.
Last month, Ariana Grande got a jump on the trend when she first flashed her engagement ring from Pete Davidson on Instagram. The pair only needed a few weeks to decide they were headed to happily-ever-after hood. Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber are also on board with the trend, as her estimated $ 500,000 rock makes clear. Although they met in 2009, their recent this-is-it courtship was said to be a monthlong affair. And Baldwin reportedly bought Bieber an engagement ring at Pristine Jewelers in Manhattan’s diamond district. Given Baldwin’s influencer reach, more twentysomethings may start buying engagement rings for their soon-to-be spouses, too.
Today brought mention of the latest pair reported to take the fast route — musician Nick Jonas and actress Priyanka Chopra. Both have tried their hand at modeling — John Varvatos for him and Manish Malhotra for her. Chopra is planning to publish her memoir “Unfinished” next year.
It is safe to say that each of the three newly engaged couple will blast past the $ 20,000 average wedding budget, given their

Fall 2018 Trend: Fake News

The truth is that fake fur was all over the runways for fall as designers eschewed the real stuff in favor of the man-made. The debate continues to rage over which is better for the environment, but the proliferation of faux represented a cultural tipping point of sorts as brands such as Michael Kors and Gucci switched camps — and it became increasingly difficult to tell real from fake.

Trend Union’s Li Edelkoort: Goddesses Are Emerging Female Archetypes in Fashion

DRAPED CRUSADERS: As the social message of women’s empowerment continues to gain ground, goddess-like strength and traits are turning up in fashion.
Goddesses of all different heritages and persuasions were the focus of Li Edelkoort’s spring 2019 presentation for Trend Union at The New School in New York. The way she sees it, they are at the root of the emerging female fashion archetype for the industry with individuals determining their own goddess based on individual tastes. Predicting a revolution sparked partially from draping, folding and cuts, Edelkort expects normcore and streetwear basics to dissolve. That shift calls for “designers, not influencers,” she said.
With a myriad of colorful images that drew from art history, fashion, portraiture and nature, the trend forecaster offered a crash course in goddesses. Students and industry types learned of Aphrodite, Demeter, Hestia, Gaia, Flora & Fauna, Nike and others. Edelkoort also pointed to the increasing importance of the sack dress, regal colors and majestic fabrics. She also spoke of “this child woman” who is very dominant in society, accumulating jobs as if she is accumulating pairs of shoes. “She lives her life like a ribbon, like a bracelet — there is not a clear direction. She is

Blake Lively Brings Back the Neon Trend in a Chartreuse Evening Gown and Fuchsia Coat

The Cannes Film Festival is typically where Blake Lively thrives. While there’s no red carpet the actress hasn’t met and conquered with aplomb, there’s something about those Riviera breezes and the pomp and circumstance of the French affair that brings out her diamond-encrusted sartorial best. But this year, the mother of two skipped the grand black tie affair, giving the next generation of supermodels a chance to shine and show off their finest evening wear jorts. Instead, Blake saved up all of that Old Hollywood elegance she usually reserves for the occasion, delivering it instead on the step and repeat for the American Ballet Theater’s annual Spring Gala.

The Shallows star arrived at the event wearing a blindingly bright neon yellow gown from Oscar de la Renta‘s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, featuring a strapless peaked neckline that framed her cleavage with ruching throughout the bodice all gathered on the left side above a thigh-high slit. Lively let the sunny gown steal the show, keeping her accessories minimal, pairing the look with some medium-size turquoise studs, matching scattered rings with teal and pink gems, and glittery gold strappy sandals from Stuart Weitzman.

RELATED PHOTOS: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds: Inside Their Cozy Family Life Outside of Hollywood

And her gown wasn’t the only place that Lively opted for a super saturated hue. The actress doubled-down on the neon trend, pairing her chartreuse evening gown with a super bright fuchsia cocoon coat belted casually at the waist.  She also carried a small glitter-covered black clutch that read “I Love You!!” in rainbow colors on one side and featured a glittery red back displaying a different message in blue. She kept her beauty look typically effortless with her hair pulled back into a low ponytail and minimal, fresh makeup. So while she may be playing a rough and tumble MMA fighter in her next movie role, until then she’s pulling out all of the super glam stops.

What do you think of Blake’s latest look? Sound of below!

These Besties Put A Hilarious Spin On The #FollowMeTo Instagram Trend

These days, the #followmeto vacation pic trend is ubiquitous on Instagram. The trend took off in 2013, when photographer Murad Osmann began posting images of his girlfriend-turned wife Natalia Zakharova holding his hand in breathtaking locations all around the world. Here’s one of them in Jordan:

#followmeto the amazing Petra in Jordan with @yourleo. One of my favorite pictures. #shareyourjordan

A post shared by Murad Osmann (@muradosmann) on

Now, a ton of couples do it:

I feel it coming #followmeto #ялoвлютвоеloveyou

A post shared by T S Y M B A (@tsymbavlad) on

The photos look effortlessly beautiful but as two best friends from Montreal are proving in a viral Instagram post, a lot of hard work goes into staging one.

In the first pic, 19-year-old Instagrammer Claudia Tihan gives us the classic #followmeto pose:

what she see's vs. what i see #swiperight

A post shared by Claudia Tihan (@claudiatihan) on

In the next photo, the perspective is flipped and we see Tihan’s bestie Elisabeth Rioux, also 19, really struggling to get that perfect, Instagram-worthy shot:

If that’s not the ultimate look of concentration, we don’t know what is.

Since sharing the hilarious comparison pics two weeks ago, Tihan’s post has received over 183,000 “likes.” In an interview with The Huffington Post, the 19-year-old model said the pics were taken all in good fun on a recent vacation in Hawaii.

“When Elisabeth was taking the pics, all I could see was her bending in crazy angles to get the perfect shot,” she said. “It was so great, I needed to snap it. It shows what nobody sees on Instagram in all these stunning shots!”

Yep, clearly, behind every great Instagram is a friend or S.O. willing to contort, squat and bend to make it happen.

Why Dermatologists Say New ‘Athleisure Makeup’ Trend Is A Bad Idea

No episode of “Keeping up with the Kardashians” or fierce dedication to the athleisure phenomenon could get us to wear the makeup at the gym, despite various recent attempts by some of our favorite cosmetics companies to act otherwise.

Athleisure makeup, much like athleisure clothing, is an emerging makeup trend featuring products made to stay in place at the bar and at the gym. These products include items that already existed before, like waterproof mascara and tinted moisturizer, but they’ve been put in a new, made-up category called “athleisure makeup.” It is, to quote Racked’s Cheryl Wischover, “total bullshit.”

Aside from the fact that you simply don’t need to wear makeup to the gym (or anywhere, for that matter), you can probably guess that there are medical reasons to stay away from the stuff during your next sweat sesh, too.

We’re not here to tell you what to do. If you’re excited about the prospect of makeup that stays put through Soulcycle,  more power to you and your impressive commitment.

We’ll just let these dermatologists explain how they feel about it instead.

“I’m not a big fan,” Angela Lamb, director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice, director of dermatology at the Institute of Family Health and an assistant dermatology professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai told The Huffington Post. “It is best to wash your face before workouts and have a clean face. This will prevent buildup and clogging of the pores that can happen when you mix makeup with sweat.”

Dr. Heidi Waldorf, director of laser and cosmetic dermatology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, explains what happens if you don’t wash off your makeup before working out. “The number one problem is acne flares in susceptible individuals,” she said. “Even noncomedogenic makeup will change with sweat,” she said. “Non-comedogenicity means it won’t affect the sebaceous follicles (the combination hair follicle and oil gland which are the basis for comedones and pimples), however, the addition of sweat creates the equivalent of a flood which can move makeup toward the opening of the sebaceous follicle or pore and irritate it, causing acne.”

But it’s not just sweat that clogs our pores. We’ve downward-dogged into a rented mat enough times to feel some kind of queasy way about shared gym equipment. Regardless of our attempts to disinfect, Waldorf said, “There are also times you can’t avoid your face touching or even laying directly on gym equipment. Makeup tends to harbor bacteria – especially after it has been open for a while and applied with a finger – so it’s a conduit to spread bacteria to others.”

Say it with us: EW.

Finally, Lamb added that in addition to clogging pores, makeup can also drip into your eyes from sweat and “cause irritation.”

Lamb’s aversion to athleisure makeup goes more than skin deep.”I think it puts unnecessary pressure ― particularly on women ― to look ‘perfect all the time,’” she said. “Come on. Anything that adds to your regimen when you are just trying to focus on your health is a downer in my book.”

Lamb believes that cosmetics companies are hopping on this trend not only to make money but to feed “the relentless desire for perfection and being ‘watched,’” but says if you are going to wear makeup at the gym, be sure it’s something “very light and oil free.”

Waldorf added that could mean “a noncomedogenic tinted primer, like Colorescience Sunforgettable Primer,” as she said  “primers are meant to stay in place, so you are less likely to have problems while sweating. Alternatively, a water-resistant sunscreen formula with tint” would work, too.

So, again, we’re all about athleisure, but think we’ll stick to just wearing yoga pants that feel brunch-appropriate for now.

How to Wear Slipper Mules, The Season’s Most Fabulous and Comfortable Shoe Trend

When you think of THE shoe of the season, images of sky high stilettos and head-turning over-the-knee boots normally come to mind. The chic, the incredible, but also the trends that don’t always make our toes super happy. Rejoice! The shoe we can’t get enough of this fall is not only elegant and polished, but also the most comfortable style around! With a flat sole and easy slip-on style, the slipper mule shoe trend is certainly one we can get behind—and suggest you quickly do too. While this season’s fur-lined Gucci loafer has become a favorite among bloggers and editors, this must-have shoe style comes in all styles, for all budgets.

Similar to a classic loafer in shape, this pair of flat kicks is polished enough to wear to the office with a tailored skirt and blouse, but we are equally excited to style them with off-duty denim and chunky knit sweaters. Not to mention that their slip-on-and-go quality makes all of our upcoming holiday travels a breeze (take that, airport security!)

Resort 2016 Trend: Lightweight Suits

Suits once implied a lean, ladylike skirt and a crisp jacket — that now-vintage look of the Ladies Who Lunch. But the concept has evolved considerably to include walking shorts or legginglike pants and culottes matched with blazers, cropped jackets and even vests. For the resort season, anything goes. Adding to the freshness: plenty of surface interest courtesy of lightweight pinstripes, seersucker and blurred plaids.

Trend Alert! Hair Accessories for Fall 2015

Accessories are a big thing for any outfit, with the potential to make or break a look or ensemble. While jewelry and gloves, bags and purses and everything in between might be quite necessary, few of us ever really stop to think about hair accessories.

You may have spent a whole lot of time primping and styling your locks but you have left it lacking some extra embellishment that could completely alter your appearance. This is unfortunate considering the many ways you could add to your ‘do and make it look that much more glamorous and unique.

Simple things really can make a whole world of difference, whether it is a clip or a bandana, a hat or a pin. You can get creative, fill it up to the tee or just let it be — a simple look that appears intriguing to say the least.

Recently, designers have presented us with some of the most decadent hair ornaments for the upcoming 2015-2016 fall/winter season. These ultra glam pieces will inspire you to add a touch of sparkle and glam to your tresses during the colder months.

If the fall 2015 designer collections are any indication, when it comes to your hair next season, you are going to want to put a bow on it — or a ribbon, or a pretty jeweled clip, or a graphic oversized barrette, or possibly even a brooch plucked from your jewelry box as the case may be.

Geometric clips (Suno), jeweled accents (Prada, Dolce & Gabbana), and slim monochromatic pieces (Rochas) offer plenty of alternatives for accessorizing even the simplest of styles and look that much better pinned into easy, imperfectly done hair.

Here, a look back at a few of our favorite fresh ideas, which we plan on putting into action, pronto.

Headbands

The stylists at Chanel dominated the fashion week runways with their chunky black satin headbands that pulled the hair back away from the face and added a dainty and feminine touch.

Although silk and satin headbands always appear chic, new textured bands such as leather or jewel-encrusted ones are also all the rage. Proenza Schouler showcased sleek leather headbands as well as some adorned with sparkles and added bands in thin strips.

Colored bands such as the orange elastic headbands worn at the Fendi show looked bright and refreshing and did a stylish job at keeping stray tendrils away from the face while bringing the focus towards the forehead region and the eyes.

Girly pink headbands from Honor were the perfect no-fuss accessories, adding to a woman’s femininity. At Gucci we saw white floral headbands placed atop blonde hair with pink edges, looking oh-so-beautiful and positively unique.

Dainty Bows

While the spring and summer seasons were full of huge bows, the fall and winter seasons have seen smaller, jeweled bows instead and certainly not as often. They appeared in multiple pieces on a single model’s head at Dolce & Gabbana, appearing to be a lovely combination of sweet and delicate as well as youthful with a mature outlook.

Pretty little bows were added to the ends of the braids at the Giles show as well, in soft satin and looking positively gorgeous against the platinum blonde of the hair. At Delpozo, onlookers were treated to the sight of oversized bow headbands that we just might grab in those pasty pink colors.

Jeweled Clips and Barrettes

Jewels in your hair may not be something you would normally go for, but they can appear to be quite lovely. Plus, they add bling to any ‘do, sprucing up any outfit just through the presence of something sparkling on your head.

That’s where the jeweled accents seen at Prada or even Dolce & Gabbana come in, from the colorful designs of the former keeping the hair looped to the side in place with those incredible barrettes to the gorgeous golden ribbon enamel and jewel encrusted roses of the latter.

The best looks, though, seemed to be the Chanel strike-through hair pins that went perfectly with the satin headbands while effectively adding retro to futuristic looks and keeping us with eyes trained on the runway, demanding more and more despite the fashion house’s elaborate and long collection for the fall and winter seasons of this year.

Head Scarves

While they were certainly not a common sight, headscarves and such headwear, such as the Agnes B tulle headwear and the Dolce & Gabbana options, were extremely intriguing and looked rather sweet tied in with the ponytails and updos.

Headscarves were tied on at Delpozo as well, coming in pastel pinks and navy blues and encompassing the whole of the head in a look that appears to be chic and Gypsy like.

See What Happens When 5 Girls Take On the Thigh-High Boot Trend for Fall

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-river

We’ll admit, when we first saw all of the thigh-high boots marching down the fall runways, even we were intimidated. Sure, they look fabulous on leggy models, but could a non-model (a.k.a. most of us out there) pull off the look?

There was only one way to find out. We called in the boot of the season in and had the team at Glamour try them on. Meet the Stuart Weitzman All Legs, a stretch suede style with a 3.25″ heel and an intimidating 27″ shaft. Weitzman is no stranger to over-the-knee boots—supermodel Gisele modeled the flat version of these boots last year. This year’s edition, however, are much higher and way sexier.

When the boots arrived at Glamour HQ, most editors were apprehensive. “They’ll never go up my calves,” said one petite senior editor. “There are never going to fit my size 10 1/2 foot,” chimed a writer. “These boots will be like pants on me,” said another editor, height 5’2″.

At the nudging of one pushy person (see byline above), they tried them and most were surprised by their experience. “I thought these would look ridiculous, but I’m kind of obsessed with them now,” said the 10 1/2 size writer. “They aren’t for me, but they’re really weirdly comfortable,” said the senior editor. “They still won’t go up my calves,” said another editor, who wasn’t a fan.

Overall, most of our team really liked them and felt comfortable in them, and while it definitely took some aerobic activity to get them on (not to mention off), the results were pretty positive. Take a look!

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-leah

Leah Melby, lead online fashion writer, styled hers with a knee-length seed skirt and fine knit sweater.

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-katie

Glamour fellow Kate Friedman wore hers with a navy pleated mini and a black blazer.

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-lindsey

Executive digital editor Lindsey Unterberger opted for a work-friendly cobalt blue dress.

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-laurel

Editorial director Laurel Pinson wore hers with a belted A-line dress.

stuart-weitzman-over-the-knee-boots-sophia

And the writer of this story and said pushy editor went for classic black and white with a high-waisted miniskirt and a button-down shirt.

Fall Denim 2015: Be the First to Wear Next Season’s Biggest Trend

Even if it’s mostly too steamy for wearing jeans right now, there’s no shopping rule that says you can’t buy in advance for future outfits. Add a pair of raw-hem skinnies to your shopping list and start looking now because experts say they’ll be here in a big way come fall.

raw-hem-edge-denim

Mother Denim

“Raw cuts and frayed [hems] will definitely be a big trend for fall 2015, carrying through to resort and next spring,” confirmed Brooke Jaffe, Bloomingdale’s fashion director for women’s ready-to-wear and, as such, key holder for items making it onto the department store’s sales floor. “Denim has become a subculture in itself, and designers are exploring new types and working with it in unexpected ways.”

Jaffe says the look became a key trend starting with resort and spring 2015 collections, and street style cemented its popularity. The laid-back finish has been a big component for Mother, who included it in their first-ever delivery back in 2011.

j-brand-raw-hem-army-green-jeans

J Brand

“Those raw, frayed styles were part of our collection since we launched,” explained Tim Kaeding, the brand’s designer and cofounder. “They are so much a part of our brand DNA that they are offered every season in multiple washes, and they are also part of our basics offering. It definitely feels like more and more brands are starting to offer it.”

While chopping off the ends of your own denim is always an option, consider giving the prefab version a try too. Many are treated specially so the frayed edge won’t continue to unravel, changing the look over time.

Top Beauty Trend 2015: Be Unapologetically You

It’s been an exciting season in the world of beauty. In this past month, Caitlyn Jenner graced the cover of Vanity Fair as her identified gender and Tess Holliday was named the first plus-sized supermodel by People Magazine. The non-traditional, but ever-so-gorgeous Amy Schumer is starring in the new romantic comedy, Trainwreck (on the heels of absolutely killing it in the media for her sketch with Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Patricia Arquette that shamelessly kicks Hollywood’s ass about age discrimination).

It appears we’re making some great strides in eliminating the narrow, cookie-cutter ideal of women in America. And while we are, it’s important to avoid sneaky pitfalls along the way.

“Curvy” women were shamed for so long for not being waif-like – which resulted in low self-esteem, amongst many other internal struggles. Now in this body revolution, the tables have turned and media figures frequently slam skinny women with phrases like “REAL women have curves.” This is not okay either.

Some very thin women are naturally that way (and agonize over not having curves!). Some very buff women enjoy working out and are subjected to questions of ridicule like “Why do you want to look like a man?” That needs to stop. It’s fantastic that body types that were not accepted in the past are finally being recognized as amazing, but we need celebrate ourselves without demeaning anyone else.

The truth is, real beauty radiates out of who we are as individuals; even the modeling industry is taking note!

“The modeling industry is currently focusing on diversity – which I believe is a positive change!” says former Ford Model and owner of TRUE Model Management, Dale Noelle. “We’re seeing transgendered and differently abled models, as well as all body types. Everyone can have a voice now.”

Noelle’s agency (which is CRUSHING it) has been lauded as one of the top agencies for curvy models, though TRUE represents all body types. The attributes Noelle seeks in models are based on more than just the basic requests for specific size, race, or gender.

Here are her top four beauty tips for models and civilians alike:

1. Be Physically Healthy. Everyone’s body is different, but having a healthy body is most desirable. Treat your body with respect by eating nutritious food and exercising. You will rock whatever body type you have, if you have a strong foundation!

2. Be Emotionally Healthy and Have a Positive Attitude. In a judgmental industry (and world in general), it is imperative to remain positive and emotionally stable. Positivity can work wonders when a person faces adversity. Stay true to yourself and make sure your emotional health is always a priority. Stability and positivity starts within and you will receive all that you radiate. Real confidence comes from knowing who you are and truly loving that person. There is nothing more breath-taking than a confident person who shares who they are with the world.

3. Show Your Personality. The most successful models (and the most attractive people in general) are those who are unapologetically themselves.

4. Be Resilient and Stay Grounded. Stand strong in your morals and beliefs. Do not compromise yourself for any reason. As a model, one client might think one of your physical features is attractive and another will hate it – and that’s okay. Same is true for life. You won’t be shaken if you love who you are. And of course, always remember to stay humble!

The fashion industry is evolving into a more open forum for all types of people. As individuals, it is essential to capitalize on your uniqueness. Rid yourself of all thoughts of inadequacy. Make strides towards treating yourself with proper care and recognition; beauty will emerge from your good self-treatment. Always be true to you.

Why The Itsy Bitsy Bikini Trend Isn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

Hawaii gets a lot of flak for being behind on trends, but when it comes to swimwear, the Aloha state is definitely ahead of the curve.

And we know something mainland beaches don’t: cheeky bikini bottoms are about to sweep the nation.

The Brazilian bikini bottom — the barely-there style of the ’80s — has been resurrected in new and more modest ways, and this time, bikini experts say, it’s here to stay.

“The [Brazilian bikini] trend is growing,” Debbie Wilson, owner and designer of Maui Girl Bikinis, told The Huffington Post. “I don’t see it losing popularity.”

everyone

You Can Thank/Blame Social Media

Wilson has been designing all types of bikinis for 30 years. When she first opened her boutique on Maui, Brazilian-cut and thong bikinis weren’t in much demand. Now, Wilson says, they make up 75 to 80 percent of her overall sales.

The resurgence has swept Hawaii over the past five years, and signs of it are just now beginning to pop up on the mainland. Victoria’s Secret, perhaps the most mainstream swimwear brand, has introduced an “Itsy” option as well as a “Cheeky” option, and San Lorenzo, the Hawaii-based boutique that specializes in the Brazilian-cut, has recently branched out with stores in Newport Beach and Malibu as well as a pop up shop in the Hamptons — the paragon of East Coast prep and propriety.

Those in the industry say the surge in popularity may be related to the rise of social media.

Sabra Krock, creative director for the swim boutique Everything But Water, told The Daily Beast that the recent “fitness craze” is to thank for the cheeky trend, “as well as the Instagram and selfie voyeurism that’s online,” she said.

“I definitely point to Instagram as a key reason for a desire to emulate celebrities,” she said.

Once You Try It…

The trend may have only recently reignited, but Mariella St. John, marketing director for San Lorenzo Bikinis, says that this style “is one that you can never go back on.”

Today’s line-up of Brazilian-cut bikinis offers more modest designs, making the style more accessible. While veterans and daredevils might still opt for super thin thongs or the showy v-line swimsuits of the late ’80s and ’90s, more modest options like cheeky boy shorts now exist.

These new designs, Wilson says, are “turning into g-strings again, but with more details, like a waistband, or shorts that still fit you in a way a [thong] would.”

Contrary to what you may think, Wilson explained, smaller bikini bottoms have a “slimming effect” on your rear end.

“Women are starting to realize that the [smaller cuts] are more flattering,” she said.

Finding Your Fit

When choosing the right cut, Emma Wo, fashion blogger at AlohaBabe.net and Miss Hawaii 2015, says “it’s important to find a style that works well with your body type. Brazilian-cut bikinis can seem daunting at first,” she told HuffPost, “but if you’ve got curves, full-coverage bikinis can actually make you look wider.”

“When customers, who have never worn our bikinis, come into the store, we tell them, ‘We’re going to convert you,'” St. John said. When her customers find the right fit of a cheeky bikini and then go back to a traditional cut, they often tell her that the regular bottoms feel like a “diaper.”

For comparison, here’s a traditional cut next to a Brazilian cut on the same model at a San Lorenzo boutique:

slbikini

If you’re shy about jumping in to a full Brazilian bikini, Naomi Newirth, co-designer of Acacia Swimwear, says to find somewhere in between and start there — “not full coverage and not a total Brazilian cut,” she told HuffPost, “no extra sag or fabric.”

Acacia Swimwear’s 2015 collection features cheeky bottoms that still maintain moderate coverage, like the ones featured below. Bikini model Chelsea Yamase also suggests Mikoh Bikinis, for a similar style.

If you’re still nervous about making the switch, bikini blogger Rebekah Steen of Gold Fish Kiss says, “Just give it a shot. At least once. Life’s short, try it out, and get some sun on your buns. You’ll be surprised how wearing just a little less fabric on your bum makes it look just that much better.”

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best in-between cheeky bikinis so you can try the trend out for yourself.

Deborah Lindquist: The Metallic Wedding Gown: A Regal Wedding Trend

By Deborah Lindquist

One of the most glamorous trends in weddings today is metallic wedding gowns. While the thought of considering a metallic wedding gown may bring up visions of bad disco dressing back in the Studio 54 days or blinding pageant dresses, the high fashion/glamorous version of today is a subtle metallic sheen.

Even more beautiful as the days shorten and the less intense fall/winter sun is upon us, the subtle shimmer of a metallic gown is glamorous and romantic. And just as a woman’s preferences of wedding rings and jewelry range from choices of platinum, yellow gold, or rose gold, so can her choice of metallics in her wedding gown.

A Gold Gown
The subtle gold sheen in this two-piece vintage metallic lace and metallic silk organza mermaid gown is an elegant yet understated option. Just a hint of pale gold makes this gown unique. Worn with gold jewelry and a simple, sophisticated updo, the result is a beautifully romantic and body conscious wedding look.

A Pewter Gown
Should your preferences in jewelry tend toward the coolness of white gold and platinum, a grey-toned gown may be the perfect choice. With the grandness of a ballgown, this labradorite beaded, vintage metallic lace and pewter silk taffeta gown has a subtle, cool silvery sheen. Complimented by a dramatic take on the traditional bridal veil, the asymmetric headpiece/veil can be worn wrapped around the shoulders or left trailing down the back. And carrying a vintage brooch bouquet is a creative way to incorporate sentimental pieces of jewelry into your wedding day look.

A Rose Gold Gown
If you see the world through rose-colored glasses, a rose gold or copper-toned gown is a perhaps unusual but perfect choice. The pink hue of rose gold is not only pretty, it’s a new standout in wedding rings and jewelry, and flattering on many skin tones. As brides veer away from the traditional white gown to their own choices reflecting their personality and lifestyle, a rose gold gown is a beautiful option for an autumn-themed wedding. Reflecting the colors of the fall season, the metallic sequins and beads on this vintage lace and silk taffeta gown are what give this bustle-back gown its shimmer. Wear rose gold jewelry, keep the hair understated and sophisticated, and you have an unusually elegant wedding look.

For a glamorously regal take on wedding gowns, consider dressing in the subtle sheen of gold, pewter, or rose gold on your wedding day.

Deborah Lindquist: The New Summer Trend: Pattern Play

By Deborah Lindquist

While last year was the year of the stripe, spring/summer 2014 has introduced a new trend, the year of the print.

As we know, sometimes trends appear, flutter round a bit and die, while others seem to take the world by storm. If you hadn’t already noticed, prints are everywhere. Graphic, retro, artistic, romantic, you name it. They are all here, sometimes worn in combination with each other, and creating a big stir.

With so many options, where to start and what to choose? Your personality, color of your skin and hair, your lifestyle are certainly factors. Pale girls might choose a subtle print that doesn’t overpower their complexion and hair color while girls with a darker skin tone and/or vivid hair colors can rock a print with more pop. Choosing the right print is about balance. The print should enhance your beauty, not distract from it.

Subtle tones
A feminine retro girl with pale skin might choose a floral pattern such as the 1040’s romantic floral on this bustier. The subtle tones compliment her skin tone while offering a pop of color to make the print interesting and fun. Pairing a colorful print with a neutral toned skirt such as this vintage parachute skirt keeps the look unique and on trend without becoming overwhelming.

Big versus allover prints
If an allover print is just not your thing, a larger artistic image or an applique such as the lilies on this applique cashmere sweater could be a great choice. Prints can found as big as you can imagine or small, mellow and subtle. With that in mind, the sweater with the spaced- out lilies would look great worn with a dress made of a fabric similar to the curtain fabric behind it, just in case you change your mind about the allover idea.

In mixing prints, keep in mind the mix needs to be relatable in some way, (such as similar colors) to keep your look from becoming too busy. Or crazy.

Graphic prints
The race for space in the 1960s brought us not only the technology for space travel, but a new and inspiring influence in textile design. Graphic prints such as the vintage 1960s print on this bustier were abundant at that time and are today translated into the current graphic pattern trend we’re seeing in fashion. With a print as bold, colorful and vivid as this, the best way to wear it is with something black, maybe easy black trousers. I’m sure we an all have those in our closets!

Jump in and indulge in a little pattern play this summer–you’ll be glad that you did!
