Flag & Anthem Creates Capsule for 100th Anniversary of Ford Truck

Flag & Anthem, a men’s casualwear start-up brand, has collaborated with Ford Motor Co. on a special capsule collection for fall that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Ford truck.
The line includes four distressed trucker hats with custom Ford patches, seven graphic short-sleeve T-shirts with original hand-painted artwork, four heritage raglan long-sleeve Ts, and three workwear-inspired patchwork jackets and button-down shirts. Prices range from $ 24.50 to $ 119.50.
The Flag & Anthem x Ford line is available exclusively at select Dillard’s stores as well as on the Dillard’s and Flag & Anthem web sites.
Azod Mohit, Flag & Anthem’s cofounder, said, “Ford is an original, iconic American brand, and we are excited to debut our collection to celebrate the history of the Ford Truck. Much of the Flag & Anthem collection is vintage-inspired, so the chance to access the Ford archives was incredible. Each piece we designed is nostalgic, while remaining current.”
The collaboration includes a marketing campaign that was shot at the Highland Park Ford plant in northwest Detroit by photographer Nigel Barker, who is also Flag & Anthem’s artistic director.
“As soon as I heard we were doing a collaboration with Ford I knew we had to shoot in Detroit. There is such

Stockholm Truck Attack Suspect Identified as Rejected Asylum-Seeker from Uzbekistan

(STOCKHOLM) — The Stockholm truck attack suspect from Uzbekistan was a rejected asylum-seeker who eluded authorities’ attempts to deport him by giving police a wrong address, Swedish police said Sunday while announcing the arrest of a second suspect.

Jan Evensson of the Stockholm police told a televised news conference that the 39-year-old suspect’s request for a residence permit was rejected in June 2016 but police could not find him to send him back to his native country because he was not at the address he had given. On Feb. 24, he was formally sought after by Swedish police.

“We know he has been sympathetic to extremist organizations,” said Jonas Hysing of Sweden’s national police. He declined to name the suspect, who had been arrested within hours of Friday’s attack on shoppers in Stockholm.

Swedish prosecutors on Sunday arrested a second person in connection with the truck attack case for suspected crimes against the nation and were holding four other people.

“A person suspected of terrorist offenses by murder has been arrested,” spokeswoman Karin Rosander told The Associated Press. She did not give any further details about the new suspect.

In all, Evensson said authorities have questioned over 500 people in the investigation so far.

The four victims killed in Friday’s truck attack on shoppers in the Swedish capital included a British man, a Belgian woman and two Swedes, authorities in those countries said. Their identities were not released.

The Belgian news agency Belga said the Belgian woman had been reported missing and was first identified by her identity papers and later by DNA testing.

As of Sunday, 10 of the 15 people wounded in the truck attack remained hospitalized, including one child. Stockholm county spokesman Patrik Soderberg said four of the 10 were considered “seriously” injured and the remaining six, including the child, were slightly injured.

Soderberg said it was important that caregivers continue to give “long-term psychological support to those who need it.”

One of the wounded, an 83-year-old Romanian woman who was begging on the city’s pedestrian Drottninggatan shopping street when the attack took place, says she was “surprised” that by-passers helped her.

“I thought everyone would run past me and save themselves,” Papusa Ciuraru, whose foot was crushed by a boulder displaced by the speeding truck, told the Expressen daily.

Speaking from her bed at the Saint Goran hospital in Stockholm, she said she “thought a war was going on” because “people around me were screaming.”

The lion-shaped boulders on Drottninggatan are meant as roadblocks and have been put up in several European capitals after another truck attack last year killed 12 people at a Christmas market in Berlin.

Ciuraru, who expects to be released Monday from the hospital, said she “tried to get up and run but got a huge rock over my leg.”

Meanwhile, the famous Swedish department store that was rammed Friday by a stolen beer truck apologized for an announcement that it would reopen two days after the deadly attack to sell damaged goods at a “reduced price.”

The Ahlens department store called the move “a bad decision” on its Facebook page. It said its motivation “was born out of the idea of standing up for transparency and not allowing evil forces take control of our lives.”

The store said it would reopen Monday “without any damaged goods.”

A fire broke out Friday afternoon at the store after the truck smashed into shoppers at its entrance on Drottninggatan street. It was quickly put out by firefighters.

Police held raids overnight to bring other people in for questioning as authorities investigated the deadliest attack in Stockholm in years. Sweden’s SAPO security police said it was working to find “any abettor or network involved in the attack.”

“We have a lot of people who are being taken to police offices throughout Stockholm for questioning,” police spokesman Kjell Lindgren told The Associated Press. “(We are doing) all the things that are necessary to make a good investigation. That means we are going to continue to check objects, people, vehicles and so on.”

Stockholm city officials, meanwhile, had to moved thousands of flowers at a makeshift memorial to a nearby square after an aluminum fence outside the Ahlens department store was overwhelmed with tributes and threatened to collapse.

The fence had been put up to keep people away from the broken glass and twisted metal at the attack site, and to allow forensic experts and police to gather evidence.

Boards were put on the store’s damaged front, and people were seen writing mourning messages directly on the boards.

Thousands of people have come to the Stockholm crash site, including the prime minister, several government officials and Sweden’s crown princess, to lay flowers and light candles in memory of the truck attack victims.

Truck Drivers and Casual Sex: An Inquiry Into the Potential Spread of HIV/AIDS in the Baltic Region

Truck Drivers and Casual Sex: An Inquiry Into the Potential Spread of HIV/AIDS in the Baltic Region

Truck Drivers and Casual Sex is part of the World Bank Working Paper series. These papers are published to communicate the results of the Bank’s ongoing research and to stimulate public discussion. Workers in the transport industry, including long-distance drivers, are at a high risk of HIV infections. Frequent traveling, long absences away from home, long waits at border crossings and the apparent abundant presence of commercial sex workers at these places mean truck drivers are particularly vulnerable to engaging in casual sex. While the threat of an HIV/AIDS epidemic cannot be taken lightly in any country of the Europe and Central Asia region, four countries – Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia – stand out as being particularly vulnerable. First, the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is relatively high and is rapidly increasing in locations neighboring these countries, like Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova, where public health conditions are also rapidly deteriorating. Second, because of their geographical location, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania stand at the crossroads of the main East-West and North-South transport corridors, and represent the link between countries of the former Soviet Union and western Europe. The open borders and rapid transit threatens to broaden the sweep of the HIV epidemic, from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus to Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as drug injectors and sex workers come into contact with other population groups in these countries. Truck Drivers and Casual Sex is based on a survey that explores the practice of casual sex among truck drivers and commercial sex workers in the border areas of Poland and Lithuania at a point of time. It uses this evidence to extrapolate the potential impact of these practices on the spread of HIV/AIDS in these countries.

The utilitarian capabilities of a Japanese mini truck are remarkable, making it one of most versatile vehicles on the planet. Small enough in stature as to fit in the bed of an F150, but amazingly resilient, conquering mountainous terrain as a top-notch four-wheel drive should. As no English writing was found to exist, I thought it about time to write one, especially as Americans have been catching the buzz on mini trucks as the rest of world has been utilizing their attributes for decades. This guide through over 160 full-color images will bring to light as to what you?ve been missing; a mini truck truly will be a different experience than you can compare with any other vehicle in the automotive realm. Covered here are the history, uses, configuration, comparisons, specifications, makes, parts, accessories, and conversions (electric and amphibious). A book/guide you may start out reading alone, but as I?ve always discovered, the excitement this book lends through its photos and exposing mini trucks? odd capabilities; you will wind up sharing it with family and friends. Sincerely, Mark Roehrig I was amazed to find that English books on Kei trucks don?t exist (kei is Japanese for lightweight truck, pronounced? K?). That didn?t seem right; after all, there?s been over four million built and delivered to every corner of the world. So I thought it was about time that these magnificent, mighty mini trucks were put into words and photos for the English speaking and reading public. My hope is this illustrated guide will become your illustrated review as you can shelf it, and come back as needed, and it?s the perfect show-and-tell for your family and friends who may have never heard of Kei trucks. What this book will do for you, after you?ve completed this guide, you?ll be able to quote which states allow Kei trucks on public access roads, load and tow capabilities, the differences between a Acty and a Carry, or a Jumbo from a standard Hijet. Walmart: Tracy Morgan Partly To Blame In Truck Accident Because He Wasn’t Wearing Seatbelt

DAVID PORTER, Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Actor-comedian Tracy Morgan and other people in a limousine struck from behind by a Wal-Mart truck on a highway in June are at least partly to blame for their injuries because they weren’t wearing seatbelts, the company said in a court filing Monday.

The filing was made in federal court in response to a lawsuit Morgan filed in July over the accident, which killed his friend James McNair, who was accompanying the former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star back from a show in Delaware. Morgan spent several weeks in rehab with rib and leg injuries.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., based in Bentonville, Arkansas, said in the filing that the passengers’ injuries were caused “in whole or in part” by their “failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt restraint device,” which it said constitutes unreasonable conduct.

An attorney representing Morgan and the other plaintiffs called Wal-Mart’s contentions “surprising and appalling.”

“It’s disingenuous,” attorney Benedict Morelli said. “It’s not what they said they were going to do initially, which was take full responsibility. I’m very upset, not for myself but for the families I represent.”

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages. It says the retail giant should have known that its truck driver had been awake for more than 24 hours before the crash and that his commute of 700 miles from his home in Georgia to work in Delaware was “unreasonable.” It also alleges the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said in an email that the company “continues to stand willing to work with Mr. Morgan and the other plaintiffs to resolve this matter.”

Passengers Ardley Fuqua and Jeffrey Millea and Millea’s wife, Krista Millea, also are named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit. Krista Millea was not in the limousine when the crash occurred but is a plaintiff because she has a related loss-of-services lawsuit stemming from the crash.

Truck driver Kevin Roper, of Jonesboro, Georgia, pleaded not guilty to death by auto and assault by auto charges in state court. A criminal complaint also accuses him of not sleeping for more than 24 hours before the crash, a violation of New Jersey law.

A report by federal transportation safety investigators said Roper was driving 65 mph in the minute before he slammed into the limo van. The speed limit on that stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike is 55 mph and was lowered to 45 mph that night because of construction.

Roper had been on the job about 13 1/2 hours at the time of the crash, the report concluded. Federal rules permit truck drivers to work up to 14 hours a day, with a maximum of 11 hours behind the wheel.

Truck Driver Kevin Roper Charged In Crash That Injured Tracy Morgan

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan was critically injured Saturday after a tractor-trailer rammed into his chauffeured limousine bus, setting off a chain-reaction crash that left a fellow comedian dead and two others seriously hurt, authorities said.

A truck driver from Georgia was charged with death by auto in the crash that killed a man described as a mentor to the former “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” cast member as the group traveled home from a standup comedy show in Delaware, officials said. James McNair, 62, of Peekskill, New York, who performed as Jimmy Mack, died after the Mercedes limo bus carrying seven people overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike near Cranbury Township at about 1 a.m., state police Sgt. 1st Class Greg Williams said.

Morgan, 45, and Jeffrey Millea, 36, of Shelton, Connecticut, were flown from the accident scene to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, where they were in critical condition, hospital spokesman Peter Haigney said.

Morgan remained in the intensive care unit at the hospital Saturday night and spokesman Lewis Kay said that his family was with him and he was “receiving excellent care.”

A fourth passenger, comedian Ardie Fuqua Jr., was also in critical condition, while a fifth passenger, comic Harris Stanton, was treated and released, Haigney said. Two others in the limo were unhurt, including the driver.

Middlesex County prosecutors said 35-year-old Kevin Roper, of Jonesboro, Georgia, also faces four counts of assault by auto. His bail was set at $ 50,000, and he was expected to turn himself in later Saturday. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Williams said the tractor-trailer driver apparently failed to slow for traffic ahead and swerved at the last minute to avoid a crash. But it smashed into the back of the limo, prompting a chain-reaction crash with a second tractor-trailer, an SUV and two cars.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was working with state police to look at any issues in the crash related to commercial trucking and limousine safety.

Walmart President Bill Simon said in a statement a Walmart truck was involved and that the company “will take full responsibility” if authorities determine that its truck caused the accident.

“We’re praying for the family and friends of the passenger who lost his life in the terrible accident” the statement said.

Morgan’s limo was owned by Atlantic Transportation Services, which said it had one employee behind the wheel and a second in the front passenger seat.

“Although the investigation is still pending, we concur with the preliminary reports that the accident was caused by another vehicle traveling behind the Atlantic limo bus,” the Rehoboth Beach, Delaware-based company said.

Morgan performed comedy standup Friday night at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. His scheduled appearance at the Fillmore Charlotte in North Carolina on Saturday was canceled.

Fuqua had tweeted that he was opening for Morgan on Friday. On his Instagram page, Fuqua included a collage of photos from the Delaware show.

“This is what it looks like from the stage to see a standing ovation from 1500 people,” Fuqua wrote at around midnight Friday. “Then we traveled back to NYC in style in a luxury Mercedes Sprinter. Road life is a good life!”

McNair was a close friend and mentor to Morgan, Morgan’s ex-wife, Sabina Morgan, told the New York Daily News. “He was one of the first comedians that took Tracy under his wing,” she said. “They were very close.”

Royale Watkins, a Los Angeles-based comedian who said he had performed in New York clubs with Morgan and McNair, described McNair as having a big personality.

“There may be guys like Tracy who get the fame and notoriety, but you have people like Jimmy Mack who have kind of energized and fueled cats like Tracy and kept them going on the road,” Watkins said.

Morgan, a New York City native, joined “SNL” in 1996 and left to star in “The Tracy Morgan Show” in 2003. That show lasted just one season. In 2006, Morgan found a long-running role on NBC’s hit show “30 Rock,” which was created by “SNL” co-star Tina Fey. He received an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor for “30 Rock” in 2009.
