Versace Is Making Sneakers Inspired by Jennifer Lopez’s Iconic Green Dress

Nineteen years later, Jennifer Lopez’s plunging, jungle-themed dress is still iconic.
Case in point: the Versace number, which Lopez wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000, is getting the sneaker treatment in a collaboration between the fashion house and clothing brand, Concepts.
Launching Friday, the two have partnered for a limited-edition Chain Reaction platform sneaker that mimics the green, jungle-print seen on Lopez’s dress. The sneakers retail for $ 1,075.

Lopez’s dress is still celebrated as a cultural emblem of the early aughts and is credited for catapulting the singer and actress to fashion icon status. The dress was the impetus behind Google launching Google Images, with former chief executive officer, Eric Schmidt, stating that Lopez’s dress was the most popular search term that the company had ever seen.
The limited-edition sneaker is available in both men and women’s sizes and will be available on Concepts’ web site and stores in Boston and New York.

Versace Resort 2020

Donatella Versace went Western for resort.
The signature cowboy aesthetic met the brand’s quintessential sensuality and femininity in a flamboyant, strong collection.
Foulard and Western motifs were combined with Versace’s signature baroque patterns on silk dresses showing draping, knots and bold shoulders, these last also defining a leather jacket worn with a handkerchief skirt printed with a desert view at sunset.
Baroque insets peppered suede outerwear and studs, as well as rhinestones, drew graphic motifs on denim trucker jackets.
Inspired by blankets, fringed coats were decorated by jacquard motifs reproducing Gianni Versace’s autograph, which also became an all-over Swarovski pattern on a two-tone dress showing a plunging V-neck.
Suits came with mannish elongated blazers matched with flared pants, while tweed in vibrant colors gave a refined attitude to mini skirts and frocks worn with coats enriched with very Versace motifs. Meanwhile, leopard patterns worked in sunset-inspired colors put the accent on the brand’s wildest side.

Lady Gaga just made a surprise appearance alongside Donatella Versace in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the uprising at the Stonewall Inn, which paved the way for gay rights.
Kicking off a weekend of LGBTQ Pride events in New York City, an emotional Gaga, adorned in over-the-knee rainbow boots and a Versace jacket, took to the stage to address an excited crowd at the Stonewall Day pop-up event near the historic venue.
“I’m so emotional today. This community has fought and continued to fight a war of acceptance, a war of tolerance, and of the most relentless bravery. You are the definition of courage. Do you know that? I feel so honored and privileged to even be asked to be here,” the Oscar-winning performer said.
“I really, really love you. You are strong. You are so strong. You welcomed me into your community in the most beautiful of way that I will never forget. My whole life changed because of you.”
She concluded her empowered speech by telling the audience that true love is when you would take a bullet for someone and that’s what she would do for them.

Versace to Hold Pre-Fall Show in New York

NEW YORK BOUND: Donatella Versace will hold her Versace pre-fall collection in New York on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., WWD has learned. The date has a special meaning for the designer, as it is her late brother Gianni’s birthday. Details about the location are being kept under wraps. This is the first time Versace plans a fashion show for the pre-fall season.
It is understood the decision to show in New York was made before the acquisition of the company last month by Michael Kors Holdings. In a $ 2.1 billion deal, Versace joined the Kors and Jimmy Choo brands under the Michael Kors Holdings umbrella, which is renaming itself Capri Holdings to reflect the growing and changing group.
The first week of December is shaping up as quite a fashionable one, as Chanel has scheduled its Métiers d’Art collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Dec. 4, as reported.
Other brands are bringing their pre-fall collections outside national borders. As reported, Valentino will hold a runway show in Tokyo on Nov. 27 to present its men’s and women’s pre-fall 2019 collection together for the first time, and Dior plans to stage its first men’s pre-fall runway show with a collection designed by Kim Jones scheduled

Pat Cleveland Reminisces at Gianni Versace Retrospective in Berlin

REMEMBERING GIANNI: “I was there in the beginning, when he had that little shop [in Milan]. I got my pirate boots there, and so much more. And that leather jumpsuit, which got stolen out of my apartment. His clothes were worth stealing,” recalled Pat Cleveland, who was on a brief hop to Berlin for the opening of a privately organized Gianni Versace retrospective Tuesday night at the Kronprinzenpalais.
Cleveland’s myriad Versace experiences hark back to the Seventies, Germany included. In 1978, German retail legend Albert Eickhoff took over the theater in the small town of Lippstadt where his store was then located, and brought in models including Cleveland to present what is claimed as “the first Gianni Versace show ever.”
What Cleveland mostly remembers about those early shows “is that Versace always liked to show in beautiful places. The floors were always tiled in marble, the interior filled with art to surround the clothes. I did something with Gianni in Venice years ago, me and some other Seventh Avenue showgirls,” she went on. “We didn’t get paid a lot, but mostly, we just wanted to go off and show the clothes. It was enough to have something to eat and hang out.”

Upon her brother’s passing, she became the artistic director in 1997. December marks an important date for the design house as it commemorates Gianni Versace’s 20-year legacy.

Princess Diana’s Versace Dress Sold at Auction for $200,000

A famous, icy blue Atelier Versace dress Princess Diana wore on a magazine cover just hit the auction block and went for a lot more than experts had predicted. The final sale price? A whooping $ 200,000, more than double the estimated range of $ 60,000 to $ 80,000.

The dress was sold by Julien’s Auctions after being held in Versace’s archives on a hanger labeled “Lady Diana.” Online bidding was facilitated by Invaluable.

Diana was photographed in the dress by Patrick Demarchelier in 1991, though the image was used on the cover of a 1997 tribute edition of Harper’s Bazaar. It is thought to be the first dress designer Gianni Versace did for the princess.
