Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Devs Address White Phosphorus Controversy

The developer behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has addressed criticism over its decision to use the controversial real-world weapon white phosphorus in multiplayer mode.

Multiplayer design director Geoff Smith told VG247 that Infinity Ward views multiplayer as a playground and separate to the darker themes of single-player campaign. As such, it doesn’t make comment on any real-world aspects of war.

“Our game is more about two sides, that there is no good guy or bad guy, you play on either one. We’re just creating this playground to play on,” he said. “I always felt like in the previous games that multiplayer is like the distant weapon fire that you hear a few blocks away from where the single player is.”

EXCLUSIVE: Dunhill Partners With Mr. Bags for White Day

SHANGHAI — White Day, a.k.a. the male version of Valentine’s Day, has become increasingly popular in China, a country inundated with Eastern and Western commercialized, romantic festivals. Celebrated one month after Valentine’s Day, on March 14, the holiday became popular in Japan, before spreading to other East Asian countries, including China. The concept behind the day is that men are repaid by their loved ones for the effort they put into making Valentine’s Day special.
This year, White Day will be celebrated by British luxury men’s wear brand Dunhill and popular Chinese influencer Mr. Bags with a limited-edition collection of 368 pieces, with the edition number etched inside each bag. The number of pieces was chosen by Tao Liang of Mr. Bags as it is a combination of Chinese lucky numbers, as well as his own personal lucky numbers. This is just one example of the attention to detail paid by the online entrepreneur, whose previous luxury bag collaborations have sold out within minutes. “It’s not like we want to use this number to create something lucky. It’s just that I want everything to be perfect,” said Liang.
Liang’s Chiltern drawstring backpack is his first collaboration to focus on a single man’s

Mel Odom to Unveil ‘Gorgeous’ Exhibition and Discuss His Career With Edmund White

HELLO GORGEOUS: Mel Odom is having a New York moment, but it took 40 years of work to get there.
On Friday, his solo show “Gorgeous” will bow at the Daniel Cooney gallery. The artist will sit down with the novelist Edmund White on Saturday afternoon to discuss his career. Over the years Odom has done his share of covers, such as White’s “Forgetting Elena,” among others. Guests at this weekend’s talk will learn of his many pursuits — the most recent of which was a fashion collaboration with the London-based Qasimi men’s wear label.
The multidisciplnary talent Odom has three books to his own name. In 1991, he created his own doll “Gene Marshall,” based on a fictitious film actor from the Forties. More than one million dolls have been sold since it debuted at the 1995 Toy Fair, Odom said. Born in Richmond, and raised in the tiny tobacco town of Ahoskie, N.C., Odom earned his bachelor of fine arts degree in fashion illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University. After fine-tuning his artistry in London, he returned to his hometown before relocating to New York in 1975. Playboy, Time, The New York Times Magazine and Rolling Stone are among the magazines

Melania and Donald Trump Gearing Up for Halloween at the White House

TRICK OR TREAT: Fright might be a common denominator across party lines, but the first couple will be taking a more playful approach to Halloween with a pre-holiday celebration Sunday at the White House.
First Lady Mamie Eisenhower was the first to celebrate Halloween at the White House with a luncheon for staffers’ wives in the State Dining Room. Skeleton decorations were strewn from the wall lights, and jack-o-lanterns, dried corn stalks, pumpkins and red apples added to the decor. But this weekend’s White House trick-or-treaters will be making the rounds, thanks to Caroline Kennedy and her late brother, John Jr., who were the first presidential children to celebrate the holiday with other children. The Kennedys also introduced a charitable component to the festivities with President Kennedy talking up UNICEF in 1961, according to the White House Historical Association. Former first daughter Amy Carter celebrated a birthday at the White House with a Halloween-themed party, as did Hillary Clinton decades later on more than one occasion. (Clinton turned 71 today.)
For Halloween with the Trumps, cornstalks will stretch along columns up to the second-floor Truman balcony, and assortment of foliage, decorative pumpkins, gourds and hay bales will add to the fall feel.

Melania Trump Plans Return to the White House After Nonstop, Stylish State Visit Throughout Asia

BEHIND THE SEAMS: On the road since Sunday, First Lady Melania Trump will be heading back to the Beltway after numerous official stops in Asia that has highlighted her international style and original brand of diplomacy.
Following what is expected to be a morning arrival at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, the First Lady plans to participate in a Month of Military celebration. Afterwards, she is expected to return to Washington, D.C., while the President continues his trip to Vietnam and the Philippines in keeping with their plans. Nearly 10 months into the Trump administration, the First Lady has proved to be a goodwill ambassador of sorts especially overseas.
Knowing the inevitable who-is-she-wearing question would punctuate every photo-op, the First Lady gave a lot of thought to each of the 18 pieces she wore with the help of designer and stylist Hervé Pierre. Although he designed the leather pencil skirt she paired with a boldly striped and belted Fendi coat when Air Force One touched down in Tokyo, Pierre pulled together an assortment of designer labels. The former creative director at Carolina Herrera has become a confidante of Trump’s.

Omarosa Manigault Gave Her 39-Person Bridal Party a Tour of the White House Before Her Wedding: Report

Omarosa Manigault, an assistant to president Donald Trump and director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, brought her 39-person bridal party to the White House for an extended wedding photo shoot, Politico reported Tuesday.

The 43-year-old former Apprentice star married husband John Allen Newman on April 8 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

Four unnamed White House officials told Politico that prior to her nuptials, Manigualt staged an “extended wedding photo shoot” at the White House in her bridal attire — something that caught “fellow senior aids and some security officials” by surprise as “some lawyers and other senior aides were not briefed in advance.”

Her visitors were said to have “loudly wandered around” the Rose Garden and West Wing, sources told Politico.

Manigault was banned from posting the pictures online, Politico reports, with White House officials citing security and ethical concerns. It’s unclear whether she received formal permission for the photo shoot ahead of time.

Reps for Manigault did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Sources told Politico that Manigault has been seen as “a particular problem” in the Office of Public Liaison, citing a heated appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in New Orleans in August. Politico reported that Manigault also stoked a mini-controversy in June by signing invitations for Congressional Black Caucus members to meet Trump as the “Honorable Omarosa Manigault,” which aides told the site became “a punch line in the White House.”

Politico also reported that Trump “continues to like Manigault.”

As fans know, Manigualt rose to fame in 2004 as a contestant on Trump’s reality TV show. Though he ultimately fired her, the two remained on good terms — with Manigault returning for a Celebrity Apprentice season. She later served as a prominent Trump surrogate and his director of African-American outreach during his presidential campaign.

Before her wedding, Manigualt celebrated a bridal going away party with her White House co-workers, including Kellyanne Conway.

People Are Not Happy About This Body-Shaming Snow White Movie

Stories about women in entertainment dominated the 2017 Cannes Film Festival news cycle, as Sofia Coppola became the second woman to win the award for best director, and jury member Jessica Chastain spoke out about the “disturbing” depictions of women in cinema.

Chastain’s choice of adjective could certainly apply to the marketing campaign for an upcoming animated film that many spotted at the festival.

Journalists at Cannes tweeted photos of a billboard for “Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs” ― a Snow White parody that will reportedly star Chloe Grace Moretz.

The ad shows the tall, thin heroine wearing red high-heeled shoes next to a shorter, heavier version of herself ― barefoot and holding the shoes.

“What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?” the tagline asks.

The suggestion that a shorter, rounder Snow White is “no longer beautiful” attracted the ire of many parents with young kids.

On Tuesday, model and mom of two Tess Holliday tweeted a photo of the billboard at Moretz. “How did this get approved by an entire marketing team?” she wrote. “Why is it okay to tell young kids being fat = ugly?”

Many people shared their outrage in HuffPost Parents’ “So You Want To Raise A Feminist” Facebook group. Several parents noted that they would not be showing the film to their children.

“Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs” is a product of South Korea’s Locus Creative Studios. The company’s website describes it as a family-friendly film and outlines the plot: “After seven handsome princes are magically transformed into seven ugly dwarfs, they set out on a quest to break the curse by getting a kiss from the most beautiful princess in all the land.” According to IMDB, the movie is “a parody with a twist.”

While Snow White is a German fairy tale famously published by the Brothers Grimm, the “Red Shoes” in the working title is likely a reference to Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Red Shoes” ― which tells the story of a girl with enchanted red shoes (though the magical shoes in that fairy tale have a slightly more sinister effect than simply making one’s appearance conform to societal standards of beauty).

The Lotus website suggests the movie has a slightly more empowering message ― apparently the princess character is on a journey to find her lost father and learns “not only to accept herself, but to celebrate who she is, inside and out. And to let the beauty within … shine brighter than anyone else in the land.”

Still, the decision to describe the “normal” Snow White as ugly in the marketing campaign is questionable at best. The “family-friendly” designation is also questionable, as early trailers for “Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs” don’t seem particularly appropriate for children. One trailer shows two male dwarf characters secretly watching the heroine undress, while another shows a dwarf looking lustfully at her sleeping figure and then proceeding to violently thrash her body around in an attempt to remove her shoes.

“Red Shoes and the 7 Dwarfs” was previously scheduled for a summer 2017 release. Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Moretz was set to add her voice to the movie and that South Korean sales company Finecut would be introducing the film to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival.

The current status of the film is not entirely clear, though the billboard at Cannes states “2018 Coming Soon.”

Locus Creative Studios did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
